The thing about storage containers that makes IKEA displays so desirable is that everything matches. Yes, you can make a display cohesive with a mismatch of baskets, but it takes talent to pull off. But putting 20 baskets all of the same line takes no effort. So measure your space and buy all that you need all at once. Because everytime I've gone back because I need one more... They're discontinued! 💖🌞🌵😷

Nearly every time I've been to IKEA (not in years), I've wandered aimlessly around for three hours, gotten lost and finally left with a bag of tealights and a plant. From conversation with others, I gather I'm not alone.

Thanks Emma, I think you and I shop at the same branch of Ikea! I too have a mini ironing board but I added an extra layer of wadding under the cover. I use the fleece throws to back Linus quilts so no wadding needed and the children like the soft cosy feel of them. Love the idea of the mirrors.

The key to ikea is to write a list or go online first to have a look. Those fleece blankets are great for homemade design boards. Those little beige containers are great drawer organisers I have similar ones in my Alex drawers next to my sewing machine for storing everything from clips to sewing machine feet. They’re really handy. I thought the wooden sewing boxes were a bit expensive too.

What a nice trip to Ikea!
I use a lot of Ikea things in the sewing / crafting room.
One box in particular is my all time favorite!
    It's GLIS.
It has a lid that snaps open and close, makes it good for transportation.
It ist transparent, so you can see from the outside, what's inside.
It is stackable with kind of feet and dents.
It comes in two sizes, I use them both.
For storage I use multiple Billy shelves and GLIS fits perfectly.

Here's my thoughts on storage containers for the sewing room... Open containers are fine for drawers, but containers for shelves should have a cover to keep dust and pet hairs away. If you must have open baskets or bins, they should have some sort of lip or ledge so they stack and so the contents doesn't get squashed. I hate seeing baskets stacked and the top ones are leaning because the contents of the one below isn't level. This doesn't happen with baskets with a stacking ledge. 💖🌞🌵😷

When I lived in the UK I made a quilt from IKEA fabrics that 20 years later I still have here at home in New Zealand! What I would say is to wash their fabric well before piecing and quilting, as it’s Home Dec fabric it will shrink more than fabric sold in Quilting stores.
We don’t have Ikea yet in NZ but it’s opening soon! Can’t wait to have access again to them, looks like you enjoyed your trip!

Thank you Emma for the tour of Ikea and all the wonderful ideas for our sewing rooms. When I moved into our new home I had the luxury of choosing how it was furnished. I have a wall of Billy bookcases that store my boxes of fabrics and bits and pieces, pretty ornaments and books. I found a wonderful Norden gate leg table that can fit neatly against the wall or you have a choice to lift out one leaf or two. The added bonus of drawers to add storage. I like the idea of a peg board as I think this would fit nicely behind the door and store all my cutting mats and rulers. xx

Lovely visit to IKEA, saved my legs and sanity, as I also get tired and tetchy and come out with a bath plug or something similar that is usually the wrong size. I sometimes have had to walk through displays to cut out whole sections of the IKEA route. One thing I have seen on other vlogs is the use of IKEA quilt covers for patchwork EPP or backing. They are usually very colourful and good quality, so that’s a corner to check out on another visit, but I don’t think I will be going anytime soon.

I need to visit IKEA 😂 in all of my 55 years I have never been! I'm actually going to be getting my sewing room back in a few months (son is finally leaving home 🎉 😮) and I have already started thinking about how I want it to look. You have definitely given me some ideas here. I like the little ironing board but I have a wool pressing mat so I'm not sure I would actually use it 🤔 I like the idea of using the blanket as wadding too. I just got back my 1st Kaleidoscope Quilt from the Long Armer & love the affect. She used dragonfly pattern & my quilt back is a dragonfly design. I have to bind it now. Next I'll make a tee-shirt quilt in honor of my later sister Angel & hopefully have an Angel pattern of quilting.

Really loved the IKEA tour. The one where I live is too confusing to get to. One has to enter heavy traffic flow onto the major multiple lane bridge highway and, that has so many tentacled off-ramps before and after even getting on the bridge - I've given up in frustration. So I do appreciate your tour. I might give it another attempt and check it off my bucket list, lol.

My mini ironing board is for sleeves, so it's even smaller. It hangs on a hook in the hall cupboard for years at a time, untouched, apart from a dust now and then, but when you need it, it's just the job.

Emma, I don't think you need to worry about wasting fabric whilst fussy cutting to make fantastic hexi flowers because you love the miniature sizes (like 1/4"). And there's always a small scrap to fit those miniature sizes. 💖🌞🌵😷

Yes that’s true, I did think that when I was watching the video back, so maybe I will give fussy cutting a try. Thank you Suzi 😊🌸

@@emmajonesvintagesewingboxJen from Shabby Fabrics shows that if you use a rotary to cut your shapes... you get windows in your yardage without "tunnels" destroying your yardage. Tula Pink marks around her template and snips into the cutting line, to make the windows, keeping the yardage as whole as possible. 💖🌞🌵😷

Ikea has some great storage ideas. I don't think the US Ikeas have fabric though (some of our products are different). That mini ironing board would be nice. we don't have much need for one, besides learning to sew.

Hi Emma, Liked your inspirational trip to IKEA! I must have a visit there! Lots of sewing goodies to be had and aren't those pegboards fab?! I attached one to a wheeled trolley to make a craft station after seeing it done online. It works great. I also like the "Mala" portable drawing case from Ikea's children's section which I use a lot! It has inside pockets for supplies and a hard surface on the outside, which acts as a desk. The whole thing zippers closed, so it's perfect to projects on the go! Happy sewing! 😊 ❤🧵
