    I'm an EV6 owner and can say that my first foray into the electric car world was a PHEV...the Cadillac ELR. I purchased it used and can tell you that I was highly skeptical of the "EV only" use case. Then I drove it for 2 years and figured out that I could go EV only. My daily commute was 30 miles each way and I was allowed to plug in at the office. We rarely take road trips as I prefer to fly than drive. Since then we have owned 5 EVs, with the EV6 being my favorite.
    On the subject of BEV vs PHEV. I used to be in the camp that everyone should go full EV. I used to rail on Toyota and their desire to slow the process down and push hybrids not EVs. Then I talked to a friend who said that we Americans have an "All or Nothing" problem. That's why we struggle to stop smoking, keep our NewYears Resolutions, lose weight and so on. He suggested that hybrids are an oil mitigation step rather than an oil elimination step. Mitigating the use of oil has positive benefits and will get more people willing to move towards EVs. In this I completely agree. We will get to a fully electric future, but it has to be done naturally and most people have to go through the same process I did to get there. I would never go back to ICE and hope that those holding out on the EV future would take the next step and go for a hybrid.

    I look forward to the EV3. I just leased an ioniq5. Coming from a BMW i3 with the range extender, I find the ioniq5 is more EV than I need. March of 2026 may see me in an EV3. A range extender is not necessary. It takes away some of the EV advantages. You’ll need to go to the gas station again. You’ll also need to get oil changes again. I used my range extender on the 1st of every month. That was just start the motor and let it run for 15 minutes. A range extender just turns an EV into another type of hybrid vehicle.

    I'd imagine 'Derivative' means "derived from another already launched base model", like K3 SDR being a version of the K3. So they're mentioning when they'll launch the refreshed GT based on the refreshed EV6 earlier in the year.

  • @tomm5936
    @tomm5936 2 месяца назад +3

    Isn’t that EV6 GT just a refresh? It would make sense to me, they cannot have a refreshed EV6 and the GT is behind still on the old design.

    The problem with this graphic 2:30 is that K4 was shown 3 weeks ago. So internal communication in the company struggles a bit when one part of the company doesn't know what the others are doing.
    The new GT will be based on the facelifted EV6. So the main difference besides the design bits will be the ~84kWh battery. Also, in theory, Hyundai can provide access to the highest specification engine used in the 5N for this vehicle.

    The EV6 not getting the rear seat slide capability while the Ioniq 5 had it was absolutely criminal since they're identical. Hopefully they fix it with the refresh.

    I want to buy the Hyundai Ioniq 5N right now, but I'm holding it in because the Hyundai Ioniq 6N is coming soon. Personally, I prefer the sedan style. However, I'm hoping that the design will be more aggressive than the basic model. I think the marketability will be much better for some reason.

  • @Lord_Reset
    @Lord_Reset 2 месяца назад

    I actually think it will be 800 volt but maybe limited and with less thermal headroom. They already have the 800 volt platform and going to 400 would require so much more development cost and extra weight and cost of more wiring. I'm purely guessing but it feels like economies of scale should dictate that the 800 volt should actually be cheaper in that case.

    The EV3 would be a worthy competitor to the 2027 Rivian R3, but arriving 2 years earlier.
    People like me who were excited about the R3 might just get an EV3 instead.
    But much remains to be seen for actual pricing, range, performance, incentives, etc.

    The plug in hybrid has definitely been the gateway drug for me. My Rav4 Prime is an excellent car and allows me to drive electric most of the time, but I'm ready to go full EV. It's not because the Prime hasn't been great or that I'm sick of oil changes, I just want to drive electric all the time now.

    They have to change their game on hybrids if they want to succeed. They’ve gotta have at least 45 miles of EV range to even tempt me to plug-in one in every day and zero out 90% of my fuel cost. That will leave the engine (which is should be just a portable generator) to keep the electric powertrain powered for long trips. If they can’t do it 💯electric over those 45 miles like my IONIQ 5 I’m not interested. 6:42

      In the city maybe, but unless they have some newer battery with higher energy density, usable battery energy will be under 70 kWh in this car.

    • @MorboDDestroyer
      @MorboDDestroyer 2 месяца назад

      I'm guessing EV3 range would be around 270 miles. I think its range and battery size will be close to that of the Hyundai Kona Electric and Niro EV. If they make it significantly better than the Kona and Niro, why would anyone buy the latter around the same or slightly higher price? Unless the EV3 is replacing the Niro EV? But that seems unlikely since the revised Niro EV came out just a couple years ago. And the Kona Electric just came out just this year, so it's unlikely they would immediately make it seem much worse right away.

    When an acceptable, functioning charging network is comparable to gas stations, they won't have any trouble selling EVs. Fear is holding people back...and the current high priced nonsense the big brands are offering.
    Build charging stations everywhere and offer units in the $25-35K price range and watch what happens. ;-)
