BMW iDrive is one of the best. Not including it among the best is a gaffe on your part. You don’t like it because it offers too many features. Really!!? iDrive is feasible to control via touch screen and while driving you can do that with the rotating knob in addition to handwriting recognition that works with impressive reliability makes it the auto industry gold standard.
I totally agree with you, I drive is one of the best in the market. Mine works perfectly without any delays or bugs. The folks @ Autoguide is misguided
Also he mentioned because BMW'S iDrive offers a lot of features then it's not good which is weird. iDrive always gets updated and improved compared to Ford sync and others.
Blake Swan it’s pretty bad. And no CarPlay either. My parents have a 2010 RX and have been wanting to replace it w the new one. However the infotainment is so bad, they’ve been holding off. The problem is all the luxury crossovers have difficult to use infotainments.
Personally I Think Mercedes MBUX might be the next industry leader but as of right now Audi is killing it , Nissan Toyota Lexus and Infiniti need to redo the infotainment systems ASAP
HondaLink isn’t as effective as we’d like it to be. They use three types of software in which the Accord, Pilot, 2019 Insight, and Odyssey have the newer system. The Fit, Civic, 2019 HRV and CRV use the semi-outdated system while the Ridgeline and Clarity use the actual outdated system.
No mention of any Hyundai Kia genesis infotainments even though the consensus across basically all journalists is that its one of the easiest and best infotainments
Thomas Harrison-Lord this sucks man...I want the 2019 Rav4 soooo bad but entune 3.0 is really holding me back. Now I'm just considering waiting on the CRV to be updated.
gcasillas1213 I also want the new 2019 RAV4 but haven’t tried the new entune 3.0 yet. What’s so bad abt entune 3.0? I figured with a touchscreen and CarPlay, it couldn’t be that bad, right?
wasabi9111 Well you're lucky you get carplay, I'm a Samsung user so I'm assed out lol. I've seen as many entune 3.0 videos as I could find. Entune just seems outdated and slow. The navigation looks very outdated and the infotainment is very reliant on having a phone connected.
gcasillas1213 in my mind, i figured with CarPlay I could bypass 80% of the native entune functions. Especially now waze is coming to CarPlay :) all I need is a touchscreen to use CarPlay and I’m set. But I guess I’ll have to try it in person to see if that’s the case.
Martin Evans I like toys😂. Btw how is the infotainment system bad? I ain't a tesla fanboy but their system is way ahead of any car maker undoubtedly. The graphics, speed, and use ability of the screen is very good as a lot of info is presented nicely and clearly (not hard to find stuff). Very nice design.
///M 7 I agree. I had a 2014 model and it was not easy to use. However w the introduction of a touchscreen and CarPlay, it’s now one of the easiest to use.
I totally agree my mom’s x3 is the 2018 model, and idrive should have won. Have you seen the 2019 Audi layout? I’m totally confused about the two screens.
Two rules for a good infotainment system: 1) I don’t need to touch my phone to input anything whether it being destination or selecting a particular song, everything can be done on the infotainment itself. 2) If you can’t do 1), give me a high resolution, smooth screen for stable wireless CarPlay Unfortunately in NA there is very few player offering that.
Mercedes and Acura -> Very new Infotainment systems, hence not yet that tested Tesla -> Probably stopped working and got recalled, hence review not completed Hyundai/Genesis/Kia -> Very good systems, hence wondering why the omission Mazda/Honda -> Autoguide doesn't want those rabid fanboys trolling them if they become honest how those systems suck
Lexus just needs to make their models touch screen and the problem is solved. Overall it seems like Japanese automakers really have a hard time figuring out infotainment systems. Maybe just hire someone instead of trying to do everything in house?
The Accord was already reviewed to have the most superior infotainment system in its class. The Hyundai- Kia systems are great, however, the Accord is top dog now. Let it go.
Good:Ford,FCA,VW group,BMW idrive, Mercedes (the new one maybe) and Hyundai👍 Rest all sucks. Pure shit. Not there cars though. Toyota and Nissan are beyond sucking point. Wtf is Nissan doing. Aren't the customers pissed about it? Why are they doing this??
Aditya krishna yeah I don’t know why Nissan is being so cheap they could have made a completely new infotainment system for the Infiniti QX50 seeing how it’s one of their newest products yet they decided not to There really being cheap and I don’t like it
That was an older generation lexus infotainment, it has gotten way better with its newer generation present in the lc200 coupe, u can even check it out in one of Doug’s vids
They have showcased the old Volvo Sensus system here (on cars before MY2017). I can confirm that the newer version (that supports Android auto/Apple CarPlay) works much better. Volvo has really solved the performance issue on this system (it will not lag after the system has warmed up) and made the UI more intuitive.
Yes thats true its a bit better now, but i still find it quite lacking tbh, work with volvos daily and drive 2024’s fully equipted etc and its not bad but its not great, it does its work and there is not much problems so thats the good part
Audi`s new touchscreen system is amazing, it`s got that satifying response similar to forcetouch on the iphone. And it really cleans up the dashboard, the way a touchscreen is supposed to do
This is an Important subject. Much more attention should be placed on the Media system in Vehicles as we need to interact with them all the time. Great to know what systems are better than others .... Manufactures pay attention !! Well documented with a humerous bent makes it interesting.
FCA maybe for 2018 models. They just got apple and Google. I have a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and no apple or Google and the system drops bluetooth connection on a regular. FCA must paid for this review.
I was really disappointed to not have the Acura RDX 2018 with many great reviews by third parties not discussed. Let alone the pricing is so much for the money! If I missed it, by all means my apologies. Happy New Years!
I honestly like Toyota and BMWs, and Subaru’s. The buttons are large and easy to use. The BMW One gives you the option of both touch or wheel navigation. Nissan one is actually nice too once you use it. It’s a clean UI. Chevy has a terrible UI!
Had a 2017 Chrysler 300 rental and the infotainment was great, especially the nav. Drove from FL to VA and back, only problem was it froze on me 3 times in a week (had to turn the car off and on to get it working again). I have used the Mylink in my camaro for two years and it has been flawless, although not as pretty. Do you take stuff like this into account when making your judgments?
So because iDrive has a touch screen, rotary knob with handwriting recognition, voice control, and optional gesture control, it’s considered confusing? I don’t understand the rationale. You get to use what you’re comfortable with on iDrive. It’s so much easier to type on a screen sometimes and other times it’s easier to scroll through menus using a rotary knob. You’re like the only publication that says iDrive is confusing.
Hearing about some new development about the infotainment system with the joint collaboration of ACCESS and mediatek introducing twine4car system for the automobiles.
BMW's system should be in the thumbs up category. It's excellent. You don't have to use all the different methods to interact with it. The touch and click wheel are enough. Only downside is no Android Auto :(
Been using a Subaru infotainment screen in my 2016 Legacy for about 8 months and have never thought it was slow to do anything. Don't know what they're talking about.
I have to say as a car guy ive always thought not buying a car because of the head unit to be stuipd. Ive since changed my tune, a good or bad HU will ABSOLUTELY keep me shopping or kicking the brand respectively. So Land Rover got the two screens right where Acura just took a dump on the floor and said here you love this. Um no we dont.
Just used the Uconnect in a 2021 Dodge Durango as a rental. It was easy and simple to use, but the navigation was absolutely useless. Out of date, routing like mad because it didn't know there was a turn 3 miles back. Only helpful part of it was flagging speed cameras since I was driving in km/h instead of mph.
Add Acura's multiscreen infotainment system. Every auto reviewer despised it. But the current Honda infotainment system is much better, but get a volume knob in several models, please.
Agreed, Honda's latest Infotainment system found in the Accord, Odyssey, and upcoming Pilot refresh is drastically improved over the previous units. It's fast, filled with features and has 4G LTE on upper trims. And Acura's new True Touch system is on the right path to changing how an Infotainment systems should work in higher end vehicles.
So they are telling me, that the IDrive from BMW isn't good enough, because it has too much features ? Please tell me they are drunk. The Infotainment System from AUDI, Mercedes, Porsche and so on are very good, but BMWs IDrive is the best one in fact.
I have an Acura MDX and the infotainment system on that car is so bad. I'm not even complaining because of the typical over complicated stuff or anything, but the system is just so laggy it's a burden to use. Sound is always delayed by 3 seconds than what it should be and the system freezes up on me all the time.
I remember people raved about how good Remote Touch was when it first came out. Don’t really know what happened since then, since I think the interface is way better, faster and more attractive, and the controller is now improved compared to the original. I agree that it’s not the best, the one in my 2014 IS pisses me off sometimes, but it’s way better than the first generation. How come people loved the older gen, and now despise the current gen which is way more improved?
No mention of Honda infotainment systems. Maybe because they’re boring and only 4 vehicles (Accord, Odyssey, Pilot, and 2019 Insight) have the updated software. The remaining vehicles have the outdated system with the Ridgeline and Clarity having the oldest.
Test drove the new Lincoln Navigator... compared to all these, that one is miles advanced and intuitive! I do like Porches' and I think the U Connect on Challenger's and Jeep Grand Cherokee's have the best/easiest layouts and UI
• S K B • It was the best but Porsche and Audi overtook it But it still should be in the winners category because it is pretty easy to use and just intuitive
AutoGuide.com delivering 110% wrong information and misleading the people. He doesn't even have any right kind of idea about what are the best and top-ranked infotainment systems provided by automobile manufacturers.
I think that the manufactures are going over broad with all these electronics. especially Audi. All these items mean that it is more to break down, and thus empty your bank account quickly. These people appear to have forgotten that most just need a vehicle to get from A to B.
MyLink is trash. If you got a 2014 model you were screwed because none of the functionality they assured owners they would have ended up being implemented. Instead they began adding other apps and CarPlay in the subsequent models.
Subaru Starlink has a good navigation system in my opinion, besides that it’s extremely subpar. In the end none of that matters bc you they give you CarPlay
There is no surprise that the Japanese cars have the worst infotainment systems, I think it's time for the Japanese companies to wake-up and see what the customer needs, when you send more most of the time inside the car you expect high quality at least on the infotainment systems especially in 2018
I drive the new A4 Avant with Audi MMI and virtual cocpit with google maps and it is amazing. I love that the system has no touch screen so I dont take eyes of the road and rotary wheel is far more intuitive. I hate that new Audi A8 and A6 went with touch screens. Greeting from Europe.
Has everyone forgot about Hyundai/Kia/ Genesis infotainment system it’s very simple to use
Lavonte A I agree. I would pick Hyundai/Kia UI/UX over the Audi. Without a touchscreen, it’s difficult to use CarPlay in the Audi.
I also agree, I have a Sonata and really like the simplicity of use
Lavonte A absolutely agree. The Hyundai system performs flawlessly. So easy to use and has an excellent, crisp display.
Lavonte A they are my favorite by far. It's funny Uconnect made the list as the system has frozen on Sami in multiple vehicles.
I just bought a demo MY16 Kia Optima Si (base model in Oz) and it gets the 👍👍👍

This guy is an idiot. I thought it was a parody car review site.
Chris Humeniuk
Very bizarre assessment of iDrive system that almost won a consensus praise from most car reviewers.
Uyoku Dantai
Couldn’t agree more.
Really? No Tesla? They revolutionised infotainment with the model S in 2012 and still has yet to be matched.
Also he mentioned because BMW'S iDrive offers a lot of features then it's not good which is weird. iDrive always gets updated and improved compared to Ford sync and others.
Lexus is easily the worst. Hands down
Blake Swan it’s pretty bad. And no CarPlay either. My parents have a 2010 RX and have been wanting to replace it w the new one. However the infotainment is so bad, they’ve been holding off. The problem is all the luxury crossovers have difficult to use infotainments.
Yes but it works, always.
My sister has Lexus NX200. The reliability 10/10. The infotainment system 2/10
I have the touch pad
I'm not fan of Volvo or Mercedes either. Everyone is trying to jam it in there
Genesis’s infotainment is very good.
Personally I Think Mercedes MBUX might be the next industry leader but as of right now Audi is killing it , Nissan Toyota Lexus and Infiniti need to redo the infotainment systems ASAP
SanitOfGod PaulBell thanks
SanitOfGod PaulBell I agree with every part of your comment.
You can also do that with MBUX my dear friend. The A-Class infotainment system is ridiculously configurable, it's just awesome
"The Short List"
**It's 7 minutes long I mean like wtf.*
UPG // Gaming & Vlogs should’ve been called the short bus list
adhd spotted
Mark Herbert Mitsubishi system is pretty good
you want the shorter short list that's 5 minutes long :)
We can’t use a smartphone while driving but we can play with a 12” touchscreen 🤔
No mention of any Hyundai Kia genesis infotainments even though the consensus across basically all journalists is that its one of the easiest and best infotainments
Mohankeneh yes, the Genesis, Hyundai and Kia is the best and most intuitive system with the fastest performance too.
Toyota - what are you doing? It's so bad, and no Android Auto to mask the OE set-up. Urgh.
Thomas Harrison-Lord this sucks man...I want the 2019 Rav4 soooo bad but entune 3.0 is really holding me back. Now I'm just considering waiting on the CRV to be updated.
Toyota with more traditional thing. It's their style, slow but still sell more car. Yeah. Maybe i feel like that 😅
gcasillas1213 I also want the new 2019 RAV4 but haven’t tried the new entune 3.0 yet. What’s so bad abt entune 3.0? I figured with a touchscreen and CarPlay, it couldn’t be that bad, right?

The infotainment in our 2018 outback touring is amazing. There is so much tech packed in there

have had 2 teslas for 5 years. The infotainment never crashed once

Because those are all really good! They should have thrown those in there as thumbs up.
gotta love the windows 98 graphics on ford and gm

Simon Ekman that's what I'm thinking
Lexus just needs to make their models touch screen and the problem is solved. Overall it seems like Japanese automakers really have a hard time figuring out infotainment systems. Maybe just hire someone instead of trying to do everything in house?

The Airplane Gamer haha no
Haha yes. There isn’t a single infotainment in the Accord’s class that beats it.

Will the uconnect 8.4 work in a 2015. Dodge dart
I was thinking they would mention the new 2019 Accord system as a top pick or at least most improved
AWESOME explanation, hanks for summarizing this info . Thanks!
So because iDrive has a touch screen, rotary knob with handwriting recognition, voice control, and optional gesture control, it’s considered confusing? I don’t understand the rationale. what about Land Rover's new infotainment system in the Range Rover Sport
Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia make some of the best tech in the industry
I don't understand why tesla infotainment is not included, its way ahead of everyone else?
Genesis, Hyundai and Kia has the most intuitive, feature rich infotainment system. Period.
Been using a Subaru infotainment screen in my 2016 Legacy for about 8 months and have never thought it was slow to do anything. Don't know what they're talking about.
i wonder why is it forbidden to use a phone when driving, and then you are allowed to use a 12" screen
Subaru Starlink has Apple Car Play and Android Auto and it's very snappy in my 17 WRX STi
my dad has a subaru starlink radio and works great, never had a problem
I have to say as a car guy ive always thought not buying a car because of the head unit to be stuipd. Ive since changed my tune, a good or bad HU will ABSOLUTELY keep me shopping or kicking the brand respectively. So Land Rover got the two screens right where Acura just took a dump on the floor and said here you love this. Um no we dont.
What do y'all think of Acura's new system in the all new RDX?
Where is VW???? There infotainment systems are amazing
The new mercedes horizontal dual screens look awesome too
I don't understand how Mercedes put their best system on the A class and let the c class be stuck with that weird tablet!
How about Honda?
doccyber well, Honda's infotainment hadn't been great until the update on the new accord. The new UI rocks!
Honda? Lol these guys get paid by Honda
Add Acura's multiscreen infotainment system. Every auto reviewer despised it.
But the current Honda infotainment system is much better, but get a volume knob in several models, please.

The Infotainment System from AUDI, Mercedes, Porsche and so on are very good, but BMWs IDrive is the best one in fact.
Honestly the new Toyota infotainment isn't bad at all. It's not a leader in the industry, but it's still very good
But no Android Auto and I hate they use the crappy Apple Siri for voice recognition. I would rather use Google Assistant which is better
John Solomita It's horrible. Stop making excuses for Toyota because it's a Toyota.
I have an Acura MDX and the infotainment system on that car is so bad. I'm not even complaining because of the typical over complicated stuff or anything, but the system is just so laggy it's a burden to use. Sound is always delayed by 3 seconds than what it should be and the system freezes up on me all the time.
If they don't like the dual screens, just wait until they fast forward to 2020!
What about Mercedes or Jaguar? I think they took a turn for the better in 2019 but were pretty much stuck in the past till then.
What about Honda Accord infotainment?
Tony Ren it sucks until the vtec kicks in
I have a Honda and the infotainment is only good for apple car play, otherwise it’s ass
I remember people raved about how good Remote Touch was when it first came out. I love everything about the Audis system, it’s so well thought out and easy to use. Also, it looks really cool!
Why is Tesla not mentioned?
Can anyone comment how Audi’s full screen instrument cluster display looks at night? I’ve heard it’s too bright and can be distracting.
Honda’s is one of the best and you don’t even include it?? Wth
Test drove the new Lincoln Navigator... compared to all these, that one is miles advanced and intuitive! I do like Porches' and I think the U Connect on Challenger's and Jeep Grand Cherokee's have the best/easiest layouts and UI
Honda and Hyundai-Kia make great infotainments, surprised they're not here 💔
Hyundai-Kia yes, but as an owner of a Honda that's not the new Accord, I can safely say that the old Infotainment sucks
Diwa Alejandro Galvez fully agree, but the new accord is golden. Best infotainment in the industry
Anas Suyyagh Yeah, and the new Acura infotainment is miles better too, bro. Honda made great strides.
All that remains is to add it to all their cars, along with a volume knob.
Wish you mentioned the Accord. It has the best system in its class.
I had an Infiniti Q50 with the same infotainment system and it went well.
So no Tesla or MBUX? 🤔 Also european car reviewers say pretty much everytime that iDrive is one of the best infotainment system
• S K B •
It was the best but Porsche and Audi overtook it
But it still should be in the winners category because it is pretty easy to use and just intuitive
Btw, I have no idea why on earth Audi is going to use the touchscreen on their latest system.
Where's Tesla!!
AutoGuide.com
delivering 110% wrong information and misleading the people. He doesn't even have any right kind of idea about what are the best and top-ranked infotainment systems provided by automobile manufacturers.
Um didn't Uconnect fail on Sami multiple times?
Blake Swan it is because he is stupid
Another questionable infotainment system to consider is Cadillac's CUE. I put under questionable.
Billy Sou we had a ATS and XTS and CUE was fine.
the whorst system on earth, will get rid of my '17 ats coupe because of it.
They massively fixed and improved the CUE in 2018 models, it now looks more premium and runs much smoother.
What about CADILLAC CUE!? Should be on the undecided list
What about the mercedes benz system?
My God why is Infiniti is still a brand!!!! They are possibly one of the dullest brands in the market.
Mark Herbert As a brand they need more than that. Their interiors are God awful since early 2000s.
iphone 8 plus in landscape mode and youre all SET to GO! no need for anything else.
I was waiting to see the new Acura infotainment
Disagree with Subaru being bad. It's really simple and easy to use. Does everything you need without any useless extras.
I am shocked you didn’t put Mazda on this list. Lol.
I think that the manufactures are going over broad with all these electronics. especially Audi. All these items mean that it is more to break down, and thus empty your bank account quickly. These people appear to have forgotten that most just need a vehicle to get from A to B.

Bmw's infotainment is the BEST in automotive industry!
Japanese automakers need to get it together
Tesla???
This list is irrelevant if you can completely omit honda's infotainment system
What about Acura's new infotainment system?
The new FCA Infotainment System in Jeep Compass is horrible !! Idk what are you talking about
Anything with a mouse or having to trace letters seems pretty dangerous to me
Subaru Starlink has a good navigation system in my opinion, besides that it’s extremely subpar. In the end none of that matters bc you they give you CarPlay
There is no surprise that the Japanese cars have the worst infotainment systems, I think it's time for the Japanese companies to wake-up and see what the customer needs, when you send more most of the time inside the car you expect high quality at least on the infotainment systems especially in 2018
Tesla? come on. not even mentioned
I have a MY16 Kia Optima Si (base model in Oz) 👍😊
I drive the new A4 Avant with Audi MMI and virtual cocpit with google maps and it is amazing. I love that the system has no touch screen so I dont take eyes of the road and rotary wheel is far more intuitive.
I hate that new Audi A8 and A6 went with touch screens.
Greeting from Europe.
Tesla has the best infotainment hands down
Anyone here added one to a 2015 Nissan Altima?would like to hear from you if you have please
