I agree with most of what you said. AEW has stories, but AEW's stories have no direction. If you heard recently, AEW just signed (Jennifer Pepperman), So that's a step in the right direction. I still say it shouldn't stop with her. Tony needs to go out and sign (Scott D'amore) and give that man whatever he wants. He is out there on a silver platter. Tony just needs to get his head out of his rich ass. Because the NJPW style booking doesn't work in the United States because America loves stories that's just how it is.

WCW created Goldberg, DDP, and repacked/rebranded Hogan, Hall, Nash into the NWO. No, AEW was never great at all. Its just deluded clowns and anti-WWE people claiming its amazing because they need to lie to themselves to make themselves feel better.
It's a bit of both. AEW was genuinely good the first two to three years and as a disgruntled WWE fan, I was invested and stopped watching WWE altogether around 2020. 2022 was not a good year for AEW content wise tbh. I wasn't feeling it at all and to top it off, Cody who was one of the reasons I switched to AEW jumped over AND was still using his gimmick and theme. It was small but it was enough to get me reconsidering WWE. Then the Punk/Elite debacle started and even though I was a Punk fan through and through, the blame was squarely at TK's feet. Eventually, I realized that AEW were losing their grip, I returned to the E to see that Roman's a heel, Brock's a Babyface, McMahon was gone, Cody's actually a top guy and the product was actually good again. Weighing the two promotions over the past three years, I'd say WWE has gotten better and AEW is regressing. And that is the result of the people at the head of both companies; Triple H, doing a great job, and Tony Khan, doing a not so great job.

Even with great talent like Swerve, the booking around him has to be good for it to work. MJF is one of the most talented "make anything work" performer and even he got bogged down in bad booking amd storylines.
CHARACTERS, 95% of the roster doesn’t have a character you can attach them and thus they have a hard time making actual storylines, because ofc it’s hard making a story without characters, etc. I can summarize dirty dom as a character, an ungrateful brat, who looks for validation thru other tough guys, slimey and wants to fake the image of someone who beat hard time, has both mommy and daddy issues. If you ask an aew fan to describe Bryan Danielson, will ospray, or any of those Japanese guys they will tell you have great of wrestlers they are and probably go down a list of “5 star matches “😭😭😭

The Forbidden Door concept is great but the show is now futile when three of NJPW stars (Jay White, Okada and Osprey) are now in AEW. Also a lot of talent signed with NJPW already randomly show up on Collision and Dynamite to have random ass matches. What is the point of this dumbass PPV In 2024?

In comes the savior of aew, Bryan Danielson, to make the match official and there you have your strap match. Easy to follow if people can stop criticizing and actually pay attention. You can have great technical matches that are enjoyable as hell to watch, but you gotta go ahead and build a story to go with it. Also save those hard, HARD, brutal matches for rare instances. Like when Kenny finally defeated Okada after that extensive reign of terror Kazuchika was on in NJPW.
Could you imagine a world title championship program with swerve Strickland and Ricky Starks? As much as I would love to see that happen, I just know that Tony was completely botch that.
If you want a good rankings based story I would suggest looking at something like TNAs BFG series... Lots of potential but not throughout the year rankings
Another interesting fact about Meltzer's 5-star ratings: Bryan Danielson did not receive his first 5-star rating from Meltzer until he got one for an AEW match.
To be fair, most of Danielson's best matches happened in the period when Meltzer was covering pro wrestling less in the 2000s to cover the MMA boom in the US at the time
your point about david, the first five star match wwe had in 10 years was a match where cody wrestled with a torn pec and a HORRIFIC looking bruise. he was putting himself in actual danger and THAT was the only way wwe got a 5 star match.

While I don't want to mention Brock Lesnar cause of the controversy surrounding him, having Paul Heyman speak on his behalf did a lot to revitalize his career and sell him as an unstoppable juggernaut (Lesnar was horrible at cutting promos, and he explicitly requested Paul Heyman as his manager). Just pair Swerve with someone who can talk on his behalf, sell him as a silent but deadly juggernaut by feeding him jobbers, and presto!

For starters, if Prince Nana can take a serious edge to his heelish manager gimmick (shades of the Embassy), people will buy into Swerve as a credible threat. Second, give Swerve clean wins, be it from enhancement talent or established guys. Even if Swerve has to lose, make it close, like had one move been hit earlier, things would have ended differently. It worked with Umaga and Armando Estrada, it worked with Lesnar and Heyman, I think it can work here too.
A Brand split would definitely help AEW especially the overblown roster, but do it in there own way. By making Dynamite and Collison there own or totally different "Worlds". Make Dynamite more of a Homage of WCW (which is was originally) while Collison more of a Homage towards ECW. Make Collison stage,titration and environment more hardcore like a Construction theme setting. Rampage would be wrestlers from Dynamite and Collison roster facing off each other . You can have a GM or "Boss" that represents Dynamite (WCW Legend) and Collison (ECW Legend) .

Jordynne Grace is a one-time appearance for one of the big 4 PLEs which featured a return by Naomi who was in TNA with her. She's gonna be the only non-WWE performer they have all year. WWE isn't about to send someone to a TNA event

The ranking system is easy to explain but whoever has the 1st best win loss in the men’s or Women’s go after their top world championship, 2nd best go after the secondary title, 3rd best go after the tv title ROH shouldn’t even be merged with AEW, the top tag team should go for the tag title and top trio go after the trio but here’s the issue it’s a scripted show. 🙄

IDK, I like high work rate matches but what New Japan did AEW needs to do is save the crazy stuff for the ppvs or tournaments. I think they need to stop signing people for a while and build up who they have. They have a great roster but maybe having a brand split, making ROH a NXT like show, sending some of the talent that isn't doing anything to Japan (njpw, ddt, or stardom) or Mexico (CMLL), or maybe give the women their own show (Rampage or collision). AEW and WWE are differnt. AEW focuses on in ring action and WWE is living off of the popularity of the Bloodline. If you watch WWE not much exciting is happening. The ppvs are always hyped by fans but end up lacklaster. The only one that had a buzz was Survivor Series and it was because CM Punk returned. Unless its mania, its pretty rare that people will talk about a great event that they just sat through for 4 hours. AEW just has to continue to do its thing and wait until they get a big angle that changes persepction.
Split Dynamite and Collision. Use Collision to showcase the talent that never gets used, and build some stars. We don't need to see the same Handful of people 3 times a week. Actually follow through with storylines rather than just forget about them after a week or two. Stop hyping a wrestler for a week then forgetting about them (Scorpio Sky for example, could also say Wardlow whose done nothing interesting).

From 2019 to 2023 I used to hear about AEW almost constantly. Now I barely hear of then at all. Storyline matters, for better or for worse, I've heard more of Toni Storm than any of the matches and Feuds because of her interesting character. But after that nothing matters. I don't give a shit. WWE is captivating me more than ever. I haven't heard of AEW in forever lol.

No, AEW was never great at all. Its just deluded clowns and anti-WWE people claiming its amazing because they need to lie to themselves to make themselves feel better.
It's a bit of both. AEW was genuinely good the first two to three years and as a disgruntled WWE fan, I was invested and stopped watching WWE altogether around 2020. 2022 was not a good year for AEW content wise tbh. I wasn't feeling it at all and to top it off, Cody who was one of the reasons I switched to AEW jumped over AND was still using his gimmick and theme. It was small but it was enough to get me reconsidering WWE. Then the Punk/Elite debacle started and even though I was a Punk fan through and through, the blame was squarely at TK's feet. Eventually, I realized that AEW were losing their grip, I returned to the E to see that Roman's a heel, Brock's a Babyface, McMahon was gone, Cody's actually a top guy and the product was actually good again. Weighing the two promotions over the past three years, I'd say WWE has gotten better and AEW is regressing. And that is the result of the people at the head of both companies; Triple H, doing a great job, and Tony Khan, doing a not so great job.

While I don't want to mention Brock Lesnar cause of the controversy surrounding him, having Paul Heyman speak on his behalf did a lot to revitalize his career and sell him as an unstoppable juggernaut (Lesnar was horrible at cutting promos, and he explicitly requested Paul Heyman as his manager). Just pair Swerve with someone who can talk on his behalf, sell him as a silent but deadly juggernaut by feeding him jobbers, and presto!

For starters, if Prince Nana can take a serious edge to his heelish manager gimmick (shades of the Embassy), people will buy into Swerve as a credible threat. Second, give Swerve clean wins, be it from enhancement talent or established guys. Even if Swerve has to lose, make it close, like had one move been hit earlier, things would have ended differently. It worked with Umaga and Armando Estrada, it worked with Lesnar and Heyman, I think it can work here too.

A Brand split would definitely help AEW especially the overblown roster, but do it in there own way. By making Dynamite and Collison there own or totally different "Worlds". Make Dynamite more of a Homage of WCW (which is was originally) while Collison more of a Homage towards ECW. Make Collison stage,titration and environment more hardcore like a Construction theme setting. Rampage would be wrestlers from Dynamite and Collison roster facing off each other . You can have a GM or "Boss" that represents Dynamite (WCW Legend) and Collison (ECW Legend) .

One thing I take exception is the forbidden door comment. It opens both ways. Jordynne Grace is a one-time appearance for one of the big 4 PLEs which featured a return by Naomi who was in TNA with her. She's gonna be the only non-WWE performer they have all year. WWE isn't about to send someone to a TNA event
I like AEW but damn I'm sick of these so-called dream matches, and the lack of story driven matches. Just give us good stories and push some of the talent you been hiding like lance archer.

The ranking system is easy to explain but whoever has the 1st best win loss in the men’s or Women’s go after their top world championship, 2nd best go after the secondary title, 3rd best go after the tv title ROH shouldn’t even be merged with AEW, the top tag team should go for the tag title and top trio go after the trio but here’s the issue it’s a scripted show. 🙄

They have a great roster but maybe having a brand split, making ROH a NXT like show, sending some of the talent that isn't doing anything to Japan (njpw, ddt, or stardom) or Mexico (CMLL), or maybe give the women their own show (Rampage or collision). AEW and WWE are differnt. AEW focuses on in ring action and WWE is living off of the popularity of the Bloodline. If you watch WWE not much exciting is happening. The ppvs are always hyped by fans but end up lacklaster. The only one that had a buzz was Survivor Series and it was because CM Punk returned. Unless its mania, its pretty rare that people will talk about a great event that they just sat through for 4 hours. AEW just has to continue to do its thing and wait until they get a big angle that changes persepction.

From 2019 to 2023 I used to hear about AEW almost constantly. Now I barely hear of then at all. Storyline matters, for better or for worse, I've heard more of Toni Storm than any of the matches and Feuds because of her interesting character.
But after that nothing matters. I don't give a shit. WWE is captivating me more than ever. I haven't heard of AEW in forever lol.
