Yeah, Dynojet is 4 hours away from me so I went to a local approved power commander installer in Norwich and they set it up for me on the dyno with the akra and dna air filter. So much more torque now! Love being able to power wheelie in 3rd gear, just need to keep practicing the wheelies now.
Professional instruction and track time are worth more than any physical mod. A power commander on the later LC4 bikes is a bit of a waste of money, as the Tune ECU program can be used to upload maps into the factory ECUs to suit different performance mods. The throttle maps can be individually tuned for each map switch position, whereas the Power Commander will just try to fool the ECU into altering the fuelling to give a broad "blanket" style tune.
Not sure if I should look into the 701 or just stick to the 450s and 500s. Definitely thinking of keeping my 450 for track use if I don't upgrade to a newer year 450. The KTM 500 is a torque monster and retains its typical dirtbike look. My only concern with the 701,if its anything like the 690, is that it's a little bulky in comparison.
+Belicose777 yes your right the 701 isn't light like a converted crosser it's 145 KG. Hides it weight quite well though when riding on the road, take it off road and you notice it!
Lamb Chop Rides Can't see myself riding it around the track with its size even though I've heard weight distribution is beautifully balanced. I'd have to decide between the 701 or 501 husky/KTM 500exc unless I decide to go through the hassle of converting and legalizing another race dirtbike like I have now . I'm not the tallest/biggest guy either. Sat on a 690 and I wasn't that happy with it. Maybe it was the seat. It was wide and made the bike feel and look wider than what it was. As long as I can deadlift it I'll ride it like a supermoto. Lol
I always do crash protection first, then brakes, exhaust, suspension and then an ECU flash. And plenty of expensive little things in between like gold chains and coloured coded valve caps, one has to look cool.
I'm thinking of getting the 701 SM and then putting dual sport tires and using it to ride pavement (aggressively) and easy gravel roads and such. Is it better to get the SM and tweak it for my uses or the Enduro and modify it? Be interested to hear your opinion...
Supermoto version, because it has bigger front brakes and a little better turning radius.....I was thinking the same thing. I am going with the Supermoto.
From what I remember, the one to go for is the enduro and buy sm wheels. Reason being that the SM has a shorter swing arm and won’t allow you to put the 18” rear wheel in. Might be wrong.
Coincidentally, I rode my buddy's 701 yesterday through some twisties and when I came back he asked, "how'd you like it?" I LOVED IT!...but, I said "I'd immediately put a quick shifter on it!" I'm making room in the garage this weekend!
Nah just clutch less power shift that monster lol quick shifters are awesome and they really spoil you but I don't see the point on having one on a supermoto as you can shift just as quick on your own when you get used to it
@@codenamenoob4973 Modern quick shifters with blippers don't beat on the gearbox like old school clutchless shifting. I rode the new SMC 690 and the up/down QS is sublime. The 701 would be even better

Cheers weemy!! One tip for fitting the seat, heat the plastic with a heat gun as its really hard! even my heavy duty stapler couldn't touch it cold, sounds like your 701 is well on the way to perfection :-)

Hi there, quick question re the PCV you recommend, does it come with a suitable preset map for after market exhaust, decat and air filter mod, or do I need to get it tuned aswell..I'm hoping it will do the job right outta the box??

Of COURSE a catalyst-less exhaust is the #1 mod! The std muffler has a cat in, it's extremely restrictive and gets farking hot, never mind it's too quiet. I've got the PCV and the ktm powerparts airbox top. Just need the wings now.. Fit some heated grips. I reckon the gear indicator would drop out of the top 5. great video lcr
+deeyup hehe your almost there! Yeah you could be right about the grips.. just not found any I like the look of.. do like datatool ones but they have stopped making them the swines!!
oxford heated grips looks alright ? what is bad about it , got them and my hands are thankful. (one of the few bikes still riding in winter if snow is not covering the road)
Lamb Chop Rides none of them look great tbh, just black grips. they are harder too. I fitted the ktm ones which plugged straight into the acc2. they are very good. alternatively, you can get just the element kit and put your old grips or any other grips on.
Thank you for this video. I have 350 miles on the 2017 701 and you very much confirmed the hesitation and ride ability questions I had with the stock setup. Strangely I think the power has improved in the last 100 miles of riding though as the engine breaks in. maybe that's in my head though. Are there any good maps out there for the 2017 701's power commander presuming an intake and exhaust are aftermarket? I assume they'd differ from a 2016 map?
+Sam Boswell yeah not sure you could use the same map as the 2017 has the new duke motor doesn't it.. might have to hold off until somebody has a map done..
Was thinking of doing this to my ktm 350 but can't be bothered to have to service it after every ride and the seat is bloody uncomfortable. Is the husky any better in leaning towards a cb650r
When I had the standard end can on my 690 it burnt straight through my bike cover and left a right mess lol all down to the stupid catalytic converter.
www.nomad-adv.com/seat-concepts-seat-for-husqvarna-701.html Do you think this site is as reliable for shipping it to sweden? I can't find where to write about your weight.
Nice Video man :) Which of the 3 Gear Indicators you use: www.healtech-electronics.com/products/gipro/ ? The X-typ for the KTM 690 since there is no for the Husqvarna?
Thanks Peter, I think its the X type but I would send them an email, I worked with them to get it working and they will know. Its not plug and play though on the 701 you do need to join in to a wire unfortunately.. But send them a mail they have all the details
I like it tbh, I used to have a KTM 640 SM with a conventional fuel tank and wheelies would really be effected by how much fuel you were carrying, made it unpredictable. With the rear tank the bike feels better balanced and less effected by fuel loads.
I have the same bike and, inspired by you, installed the Wings and have been very happy with it. I had no issues for the first 1000 miles, had the first service done, but recently I've been having some stalling issues - I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow... have you had any similar issues? Thanks and hello from Los Angeles.
Hey man, finally my KTM 690 SMC R is in my hands and she is a beut with so many mods already fitted including a full Acro evo 1 kit which I am happy about. The one thing I am am struggling with though is what gear to get so I suit the bike but also have good protection. I have ordered the Helmet which is an AGV AX8 Dual Evo Karakum But the trousers and the jacket I am struggling with. Is it acceptable to wear body Armour with an MX top over it in the summer for road use do you think? What do you wear when riding your 701? Any help would be Majorly appreciated. TLDR: What style gear is good to wear on a Supermoto?
+Major Chaos congrats dude great bikes arnt they! Gear is an interesting one, I like the field force pro shirt x-v with a hoddy or mx top over in the summer. I don't have one yet but it's my next purchase. On the bottoms I prefer leather for the protection aspects with mx boots. Currently wear full leathers but a little ott in the summer months and the field force vest is the daddy 😀
Great thanks for your help I will check this shiz out. And yes this bike is fucking amazing, Shame I am all the way up in Newcastle because it would have been great to go for a ride sometime.
You can also go with the armoured jeans for the bottom part :), and add mx boots to it, i've got the jeans and they're so much cooler in the summer than the leatherpants :). But it's your choice, ride safe!
+David Warner haha I did wonder if someone would comment on the chain hehe. I use wd40 to clean it and Worth dry chain lube. People will tell you don't use wd40 distroys orings etc but I've used it for years without issue. Chain on blade had it 15k miles and always cleaned with wd40 and orings are perfect!
I've had gsxr's, hayabusa, zx10rr, all those cool powerfull bikes, i bought an 18-model 701. NEVER selling it, coolest bike i have ever owned! Get one, you will never regret it. I have an akra exhaust, an aftermarket exhaust with db-killer removed is a MUST HAVE. I only use the db-killer for trackdays which is required, but i cannot ride with the db-killer in on the street, its just too cool and awesome without. Stock exhaust is just trash!
1) Only nutters ride Supermotos. 2) Playing cards in the spokes...best mod ever. 3) Nice countdown. Twas a jolly ol romp indeed. 4) Your bike is right tidy n that. Wanna do rude things to & on it. Good day, Sir.
Hehe! Had to look Oculus Rift up, as I'm still firmly stuck in the 70s :) Btw, If you do a Supermoto meet up as I saw suggested, let me know dude...I'll wear my Variant & Ogio vest (I really do have both) >_
Hey Chops. Did you consider the Akro slip-on, airbox, EVAP removal, engine map package? About £750 and wondering whether it might be worth getting the dealer to stick it on my new '18 bike ready for when I pick it up in 2 weeks or hold out for Wings, etc. Cheers
Hi There. If you had a choice between the standard 2016 or 2017 701sm both brand new, but the 2017 being 2.5k bucks more expensive which would you choose ?. I have this choice but want to get max bhp for my money.
+Pat Dudley the 2017 engine has more midrange and top end power and you can feel the difference. I borrowed the 690 duke with the same engine and it impressed. Whether it's worth 2.5k more... Probably not Imo the 2016 is still quick!
Thanks mate. It works out 2200 bucks for the pipe, pcv, airbox etc inc shipping and currency conversion to NZ for the 2016. Plus 450 bucks for dyno. How much hp do you have with all that kit on ? Because with all those costs it brings me up to the price of a std 2017 model.
+Pat Dudley can't remember but it's loads of torque but not only that, the best thing about the PC is the throttle response is transformed. The 2017 feels flat below 4k, the pc brings this back. I would still recommend the pc on the 2017 too. Otherwise throttle is a bit Laggy
The 2017 is worth it lol. A friend of mine had a 2016 701 and after a couple of thousand miles his fuel pump broke and he had a problem with his rocker arm bearings(common problem for the older 690/701). The bike was still under warranty so it was taken apart and had a rebuild. When he got to around 9k miles the rocker arm broke again, meaning he had to take the bike apart himself which costed a shitload of money and he ended up trading it for a 2017 Duke R(With the new engine ofcourse, without the stupid rocker arm) and he said that not only it was a 1000 times smoother at low rpm's (no endless bogging and stuttering) it also made a lot more power after mapping, which we both loved since the 690/701 engine has such strange lazy powerband compared to an agressive 450.
did your seat concepts seat have to come from the USA? Im looking into getting a kit for my drz 400 and am having a hard time finding something thats from the UK.
+Hzap the book is 6k miles, however as I ride it quiet hard and have power commander etc I change every 2k for my piece of mind, I'm sure it's overkill
Could I ask you a maybe dull question? I'm really loving the 701, does it require a lot of maintenance (oil & filters) like the fe 501 and how is the quality does it break down a lot? Love the video btw :)
nice to see older guys ride supermoto, i think new ktm/husky sm's are good starter motards. that said, you should really try true sm on a track.. after that these feel heavy and slow;)
older guys?? what you on about :-p I would love a "proper" converted enduro as a second (well third) bike for short blats, would have to be a 2 stroke though I think..
let's face it, you are older and i'm not far behind. best thing about bikes is you can enjoy them all your life. i used to have ktm exc converted to sm, full on race bike with a plate. super cool bike to mess about, but sucked at commuting. had more power than 701:) sold the bike as it was a pain to maintain properly. only mx for now.
Nice bike and video ! I have recently bought a SWM 650 SM and looking at exhaust and power commander, that should wake it up a bit although it's not bad in stock form anyway.

How do you find the Airbox lid noise to be when riding on the road normally? Is it a bit obtrusive?
Looks like you’re not running any db killer on the Wings exhaust. Don’t find it a bit loud for everyday riding?
Doesn't your knee get bothered from teh frame slider? I got the same and i couldn't handle it and removed it. Maybe my mx back ground hates it.

How does the power Commander play with the different maps that cone with the bike? IIRC the pcv can only have 2 custom maps
The PC smooths out the mapping so really there is no need for any other maps as what it gives you is perfect. Forget adjusting the map switch anymore
Of COURSE a catalyst-less exhaust is the #1 mod! The std muffler has a cat in, it's extremely restrictive and gets farking hot, never mind it's too quiet. Can you recomend a good front fully floating wave rotor for the 701SM?
Hello. Do you still use your quickshifter ? In recent clips I see you use the clutch lever. What are your experiences after a year. Best regards Simon
Not really, the bike does suffer with some false neutrals and QS just hits them. I really struggled using it tbh
you don’t need a quick shifter for this type of bike the gearbox does not require the clutch to change up or down gears like a sports bike only to set off and feather if needed so a quick shifter is pointless on a crash box

Can you show me your app settings? Because I have ignition cuts at high rpm and nobody ca help me,..
Is that a military vest?!
+deeyup womble has just done the under grip elements... interested to see they work
+Air Doctor yeah they do just don't like the separate control box, datatool had them all integrated looked oem
Lamb Chop, have you change the final drive on your bike? (Front/rear sprocket) If so, what did you change it too?
Yes I have since dropped the front sprocket down a tooth, from a 16 to 15 I think.. Or could be 17 / 16 cant remember..
Was thinking of doing this to my ktm 350 but can't be bothered to have to service it after every ride and the seat is bloody uncomfortable. Is the husky any better in leaning towards a cb650r
you probably wouldn't be able to get air on the cb😉
Nice video, really enjoyed it! keep it up :)
Thanks man!
great vid mate! earned a new subscriber, thanks for the content
Thanks buddy appreciated!
question i looked on web and saw this has mirrors on it can u take em off
ll shotzy ll of course
How have you got your Brembo brake calipers red?
+Matthew Donnelly bit of paint on the letters 😎
Also, would you make a video on how to wheelie the 701 as I can't seem to clutch it up in 2nd I have worked out the power wheelie in 1st.
good day sir.. just want to ask what is the best sprocket set up for a super moto.. i also have a supermoto bike.. buts its a lower cc.. only 150 cc..
What clutch levers are those I need some desperately. Help me out!
Search mud Pig Racing on ebay 👍👍
Lamb Chop Rides thanks man! I found them.
Killtime of the quickshifter could be shortet! And the frame protectors could break the frame in case.
Would you recommend a supermoto such as Husqvarna 701 or KTM SMC 690 for a first bike meant for city commuting and weekend fun on country roads ?
Yes absolutely brilliant! I now have a new 690 SMCR and about to do start an ownership blog about it 👍
@@LambChopRides Thanks, can't wait for it! :)
how is the seating comfort and overal confor for riding lets say 100km in comparisment to KTM 500 EXC or Husqvarna 501? THank you
The 701 is top
I wouldn't know how to compare because I didn't try other bikes you asked for, but riding 100km on 701 your balls would definitely fall of
When I had the standard end can on my 690 it burnt straight through my bike cover and left a right mess lol all down to the stupid catalytic converter.
+Crana yeah I'm really not suprised they get stupid hot don't they! Aftermarket all day long 😀
Did you install the quickshifter by yourself? If yes, was it hard to do?
The number one modification should be be one you have fitted to save wear on the front tyre!
Hi, could you please tell me from what page you ordered the comfort seat?
+warblooroob it's from seat concepts 👍
www.nomad-adv.com/seat-concepts-seat-for-husqvarna-701.html Do you think this site is as reliable for shipping it to sweden? I can't find where to write about your weight.
Nice Video man :)
Which of the 3 Gear Indicators you use: www.healtech-electronics.com/products/gipro/ ?
The X-typ for the KTM 690 since there is no for the Husqvarna?
Thanks Peter, I think its the X type but I would send them an email, I worked with them to get it working and they will know. Its not plug and play though on the 701 you do need to join in to a wire unfortunately.. But send them a mail they have all the details
what u think about the fuel tank being at the rear, i dont like it to be fair.
I like it tbh, I used to have a KTM 640 SM with a conventional fuel tank and wheelies would really be effected by how much fuel you were carrying, made it unpredictable. With the rear tank the bike feels better balanced and less effected by fuel loads.
Thanks for the reply that really gives me a new perspective, but still cant forget that video were someone looped and it caught on fire xD
Helpful list of mods, thanks. I'm wondering whether I should get a steering stabilizer. Did you consider getting one or have you tried it?
+Neon Catstronaut I really don't see the need, never had any moments with wobble or any steering issues personally
Thanks for your reply. Happy trails!
Hi Adam, hmm no never had any stalling issues at all, hope dealer can sort it, probably a faulty sensor that's all quick fix I bet :)
Thanks, much appreciated. I rode tonight and lay on the throttle a little more and it didn't stall once... maybe it was rider error.
Nice video old boy!!
I got chain envy as soon as I seen it! I know it's not nothing special but it's clean!
Any lubes 😉 you prefer??
+David Warner haha I did wonder if someone would comment on the chain hehe. I use wd40 to clean it and Worth dry chain lube. People will tell you don't use wd40 distroys orings etc but I've used it for years without issue. Chain on blade had it 15k miles and always cleaned with wd40 and orings are perfect!
Lamb Chop Rides sweet will try it out! xx
So the commander makes its own tune or you can take it and have a pro tune done if you want?
I'm Seriously thinking of getting one now. I will how ever keep my Ducati Monster 821. But damn you can have 2 bikes right?
I've had gsxr's, hayabusa, zx10rr, all those cool powerfull bikes, i bought an 18-model 701. NEVER selling it, coolest bike i have ever owned! Get one, you will never regret it. I have an akra exhaust, an aftermarket exhaust with db-killer removed is a MUST HAVE. I only use the db-killer for trackdays which is required, but i cannot ride with the db-killer in on the street, its just too cool and awesome without. Stock exhaust is just trash!
@@MariusGuitar2007 I will try this Husky on monday. I'm going to sell my Ducati now or at the start of next year.
I see the701 still has the ktm 690s 4-5 5-6 that extra neutral gears in between those gears lol Always gets me on my 690 lol
Hei LCR! What gear indicator did you use? The HealTech one? How easy was it to install?
my dad has the same exhaust for his 690. is there a different header that fits on the bike
Not that I'm aware of unfortunately
Tekmo racing makes headers, gains 3 a 4 hp
where do u get that foot brake bling???
+Markus Kitunen ebay, search mud pig racing 👍
1) Only nutters ride Supermotos.
2) Playing cards in the spokes...best mod ever.
3) Nice countdown. Twas a jolly ol romp indeed.
4) Your bike is right tidy n that. Wanna do rude things to & on it.
Good day, Sir.
+Bimble haha playing cards in the spokes! Ah the days.. 70s version of Oculus Rift!
Hehe! Had to look Oculus Rift up, as I'm still firmly stuck in the 70s :)
Btw, If you do a Supermoto meet up as I saw suggested, let me know dude...I'll wear my Variant & Ogio vest (I really do have both) >_
+Bimble ok dude will keep you posted on a meet 👍
Schweeet!
Hey Chops. Did you consider the Akro slip-on, airbox, EVAP removal, engine map package? About £750 and wondering whether it might be worth getting the dealer to stick it on my new '18 bike ready for when I pick it up in 2 weeks or hold out for Wings, etc. Cheers
One more sorry, how did you fair on your track day noise test with your Wings/PC5/airbox set up?
Has this bike proved reliable, please? I am thinking of buying one.
I've sold mine now but friends with them been ultra reliable bikes.
@@LambChopRides You sold it ?? Okey, what will you buy now?
@@RUclips_Globetrotterthe exc 500 he's already got
701,the best supermoto out there hands down
@@julkesjanssen why the 500 over 701?
Only 701 sounds terrible stock. 500's 450's 525's 530's all sound great with a stock pipe.
did your seat concepts seat have to come from the USA? Im looking into getting a kit for my drz 400 and am having a hard time finding something thats from the UK.
+bchant19 yeah mine came direct from the US, postage was expensive about £40.. not sure if they have a UK distributor
hi chops did you have any issues after installing the new exhaust? and have you ever had any random stalling issues?thanks
Who's your local dealer? Looks like we share the occasional road and I want to test one!
hi! nice video. why did you choose a 701 instead of a smc r 690?
i guess cause everybody has a SMCR, at least in europe
+Federico Pacifici yeah lots of 690s all over the place. 701 was new and imo a slightly better bike
+Craven88 yup part of it 👍
How many gears has it got?
Have is been reliable so far, please?
6 gears and ultra reliable no issues apart from weeping oil seal on the main gear shaft. I am doing a 1 year on review of this bike very soon
Is this in frampton or gloucter
Hey lamb chop, what is your maintenance schedule on the 701?
+Hzap the book is 6k miles, however as I ride it quiet hard and have power commander etc I change every 2k for my piece of mind, I'm sure it's overkill
+Hzap only have 4k miles so not done valve check yet 👍
Nice video, you have a new subscriber ;)
+Jamie V cheers Jamie 👍
May I ask what map is loaded onto your bike please?
Its a custom Dynojet one for the 701, it is available to download at the Dynojet website though :-)
In the beginning did you start with the Euro map thou?
No as there is no such map for the 701, so we started from the standard map and developed it from there
Ahhhhh. Beautiful bike. Is it a 16 or 17? Wheelie monster
Its the 2016 bike, the 2017 has the later Duke motor but I need to try one see how different it feels :-)
What do you call your helmet?
Icon is the brand I think
Thanks
+Vincenzo Arcone it's an Icon Varient 👍
Thank you👌
Could I ask you a maybe dull question? I'm really loving the 701, does it require a lot of maintenance (oil & filters) like the fe 501 and how is the quality does it break down a lot? Love the video btw :)
+Rick no 6k service intervals so easy! I tend to change mine at 2k just because, can't hurt 😀. Breaking down not so far.. fingers crossed!
Lamb Chop Rides So not that bad... thanks mate
what is the helmet comms device you use, and is it any good? Asking for a friend. and me.
James Stevens A bluetooth communicator plastic thing called Sena.
I get tired of so called experts telling what a super moto they have while missing every other shift . What is wrong with you experts ? Thanks
nice to see older guys ride supermoto, i think new ktm/husky sm's are good starter motards. that said, you should really try true sm on a track.. after that these feel heavy and slow;)
i can see that, my dream is to have a 701 for daily and that new FS450 sumo thats built for the track. i bet that baby rips
older guys?? what you on about :-p I would love a "proper" converted enduro as a second (well third) bike for short blats, would have to be a 2 stroke though I think..
let's face it, you are older and i'm not far behind. best thing about bikes is you can enjoy them all your life. i used to have ktm exc converted to sm, full on race bike with a plate. super cool bike to mess about, but sucked at commuting. had more power than 701:) sold the bike as it was a pain to maintain properly. only mx for now.
What kind of Vest do you wear over your lerher suit
+Ekolex LP it's an Ogio flight vest 👍
Thanks
Nice bike and video ! I have recently bought a SWM 650 SM and looking at exhaust and power commander, that should wake it up a bit although it's not bad in stock form anyway.
