I've had a '14 690, an '18 701 and now a '20 690....they're equally as fun, I'd say it just comes down to aesthetics on a personal level. You won't go wrong with either!👌🏻
Did the 14 690 feel worse than the 18 701? Is there a difference regarding vibrations between the two?

I agree on the vibes from the earlier engines. A friend of mine had a 690 Duke and the smoothness of my ‘21 SMC R is noticeable and really it does come down to which colour scheme and appearance you like best between the 690 and 701. Personally I find the 701 plastics to be too large and cover up too much of the bike but that’s just my opinion.
The KTM is the one I'd go for, but the Husky is still a great looking machine.👍👍👍🇬🇧

Chopsy after seeing your build series I modded my 21 smcr. Full tekmo titanium, dna level 2, power commander v, sas delete etc. She’s now an absolute ripper, so much more top end than my previous 14 690 smc. Perfect for those little back roads. Ride safe mate 🏍

I was looking at the new 23 Husqvarna and had a dealer send a pic of it but didn't like the too much gray so looked at the 23 KTM 690 smcr and was hooked and 5 days later I'm am now the owner of the 23 KTM 690 sm 👍

I've been thinking about selling my 17 plate 701 once it's paid off seeing as I don't know anyone else with a sumo but these vids just make me look forward to getting it back out this summer. Brapppp!
I come from the land of Husqvarna, and I have a special love for them. Can't say that they are good looking, but neither am I - must be a Swedish thing... In the early 80's the military used a two-stroke 420 cc Husqvarna with an automatic gearbox, and that one was quite fun to ride. Back then Husqvarna also had a 390 cc (if I remember correctly) that accelerated like a mad banshee with a blob of mustard slapped into the sphincter.
Get my new 701 next week.

I bought a 21 701 just before Christmas. Love it. It resides with my 20 KTM 1290 SDR. Both give my naughty tingles. 🤣🤣
What fantastic taste in motorcycles you have sir. I have been letching over the 701 with the extended fuel tank for a couple of years as a second bike and I wanna swap my bmw s1000r for a KTM sdr
Love my 2021 SMCR brilliant bike stock engine just have a wings car and Oberon clutch puts a smile on my face every ride and awesome to look at.. KTM for me.. runs awesome 🤩

Amazing bikes. Had a 17' 701. Put 12k miles on it. Amazing machine the entire time. It took the beating I put it through. Never should have sold it. Looking to get on a 690-simply for the color scheme. Nice work chops 👌

I had a husky 701. 2018. Absolutely loved it. I sold that instead of my zx10r to buy a troumph tiger fkr a europe trip. And the husky was the most fun I've had on the road

No wrong choice here, personally I like the look of the Huskies. I ended up with the Svartpilen 701
I have a 2020 701 that I bought last year as leftover new stock. Been pretty nice. Haven't done too much to it, but I did add a USB charging port (Huskies don't come with it stock like the KTMs do), a plastic bash plate, seat concepts seat, and, some inspiration from you, a Berotic Cumpan. I got the newer unit that does the revs, gear indicator, and coolant temp. Really great unit. Also bought a fly screen for it, but haven't attached it yet as I haven't felt it actually to be very necessary. Toying with the idea of putting an MC Cruise electronic cruise control on it and turning it into a semi competent tourer. Not sure if I want to spend that kind of money though as I'm on the fence about how I truly feel about the bike.
Is it sacrilege for this kind of bike that an exhaust mod and power commander are not mods I'm too interested in? lol
I bought a brand new 2021 701 2 weeks ago, cause of the look. Replaced a 2006 LC4. I love the colours and scandinavian feeling. Its a fantastic bike!
Good review Chopsie and nice to hear that the simplicity of the 2019 and earlier model without the ridermodes etc is some kind of a plus point. Mine does everything I need, is 7500 miles in and not missed a beat. Still loving it and struggling to choose a replacement for it.

Timely video for me, LCR. When I get back to Portugal, where I have a flat, I am going to buy an SM while I can still get one. I fancy the 701, but I'd settle for the 690. Perfect for the Algarve backroads.
These super Moto style bikes make perfect sense for our roads , maybe have a bike to do tours on and that’s all we need ! 👍brilliant video ! I think this could be my next bike 👍 boys and toys 😂😂

Man, I love these bikes! I had two 701s, 2016 and 2019, with a total of 28000 miles!
I think about getting another one literally everyday!
But for 2022 I want to try to travel longer distances so I currently have a 1190 Adventure.
What’s the longest distance trip you would use a 701 for? I noticed a video by a lady who is touring on one! What you think?
@@AAKhanivore I've done two 10 days trips with a total of 2600 km each, bike never missed a beat and I was totally comfortable, only mod you need is a Seatconcepts seat. Just to prove how much I like the 701, I currently have my third one, the 1190 lasted 4 months, good bike but supermotos are the most fun/do everything bikes you can ride, period.

Looks wise hands down the 701 with its proper supermoto looks....hate the skinny air intake guards on the 690....the correct flaired out ones on the 701 look like a moto should
i read on the forums the rg crash bungs on Wombles frame can cause some frame snapping issues.. btw i bought a 701 partly cuz of this channel

Interesting comment on the quick shifter as the set up on my 2019 Enduro works very well. I use it both on and off-road but seldom use the auto blipped. Great platform either way.
Looks wise for me the Husqvarna, the colours look great but if I wasn't totally skint would be happy with either, both badass

I've the 2020 701 LR, after seeing your build I had to do the rotty engine mods. Full Tekmo, power commander, air intake to name a few. I've a set of Dubya supermoto wheels, new pegs and two anodised blue billet fuel caps on their way as we speak from Rottweiler. I was a bit underwhelmed when I first bought the bike but now!! It's a flying machine 🏍😁

@@LambChopRides It's like a different bike and how I expected it to be out of the showroom. They run so lean and restricted on the standard set up. These mods unlock the potential the engineers intended 100%. I mentioned to Rottweiler it was your build that sent me their way too, they're great to deal with.
Just sold my 2017, 701, so light and lots of fun with the Wings end can, dyno tune and -1 front sprocket :) same torque as a 1000cc bike

Incredible, 2 bikes with same geometry, frame, engine and 95% of their components feel very.. similar.
Also one looks good, the other not so much with or without blings.

I love theses bikes I’m planing on getting one or the enduro model, but the only thing for me is the height I can’t barely touch the ground ahaha proper tip toeing 🤣🤣 but never the less I’ll make it work
If you don't ride often and want a bike for fun, I'd suggest a ktm 525 or KTM 500 for supermoto. I say don't ride often just due to the higher maintenance as these are classed as more of a race engine and a lot lighter than these bikes in the vid. A 525 or a 500 would be a lot more fun in the Twisties and just overall, more aggressive power etc
How regular are the rebuilds on these machines? Is any motard able to daily ride? I love the idea just unsure of long term reliability
Just found your next project chopsie! Forget the hyper, contact Josef Frauenschuh and get him to work his magic on the 690. Gets in the vicinity of 95hp so Womble wouldn't stand a chance! Now I know that's more a race tune so questions of reliability and maintenance (and cost) might come into play but maybe there is a compromise Josef could come up with. Can you imagine that much power with such light weight 😁

the 2016 701 has the extra counterbalancing shaft. it was the first year it was introduced. all of the 2016 701 press first rides and reviews mention it from 2016

I own a 2021 smcr it’s a wicked bike but still feel like I need to own an old supermoto is well like a ktm 640 or a Honda xr650r 🤔 it’s a carburettor thing
Why does that KTM appear to have radically more vibration in the handlebars?
Saw that the 701 has 10mm more seat padding, plus the side flaps, does this translates to much better comfort?

I rode the GasGas version of these two, I wasn't impressed... so I wonder, I'm probably missing something, but can't put my hands on what. I'm similar height and weight to you, but never rode on a track, so all insides are usefull. Thank you in advance.

I had 450 before, but never riden 701, and cant decide what is next… 450 or 701/690? Any comparations, thoughts?
The 690/701 has much more grunt and its heavier but does make it feel very stable and it wheelies brilliantly. The converted enduro will be more fun but only 20% more fun which for me doesn't justify all the extra agro with services. Plus the 690 can be used for longer trips as will cruise at 75 mph no problem on the motorway

I bought a new 2016 ktm 690, back then and many with me felt that the 690 smcr was more rough, more torque in the mid range, and over al more powerful. Remus exhaust, pp1 air filter cover, you could do no clutch wheelies 5 gear..
Yep, epic fun bike which I miss now and then. Traded it in for a Husqvarna Fe450. Today I have a Ténéré 700 and a TE300 as substitute 😂

690 smaller cylinder revs higher , good one Chops .
Don't believe I ever said that.. both bikes have the same bore and displacement no differences there. Think it is actually 690cc.. 👍

That was like the old days content, really enjoyed it. The only thing that ever puts me off a supermoto is the theft. Living in a city etc.
Yes that's the problem with them, can't really leave them anywhere for any period of time!
@@LambChopRides how come it's the supermotos that get stolen so quickly? I live in the Netherlands at the moment. Got a brand new 690 2020 last year and it got stolen after 2 weeks. Luckily I got it back because of a GPS tracker but now I am constantly worried it will get stolen again.. it really seems like the only problem you have with these bikes. Is it because they are relatively easy to steal and still worth a lot?
Kids ride round estates illegally on pit bikes and old trailies from a young age. Ramping over kerbs and obstacles evading the police. The 690/701 is like a wet dream to them. Very highly prized. I sold my 701 and had to deal with a procession of idiots before I found a decent buyer.
