How to get existing map version at 5:48. perfect. BMW doesn't show this as their instruction video only covers the latest software for cars in the past couple of years. No interest in older models I guess so thanks for posting this. Perfect for my 2015 X1
I found this guide perfect for my needs, very good quality and stable visuals with nice, large and easily readable instructions. Wish I'd found it before I struggled through BMW's clunky web site and downloaded the Map Update. The next step should be very easy! One extra thought, Mac users will have to get a FAT 32 formatted USB Drive as BMW Downloader does not accept a drive formatted by the Mac app Disk Utility. Disk Utility does not contain an option for FAT 32 formatting. Ask a PC-user friend or visit your computer store for getting the necessary re-formatting done before you start.
Thanks for the clear instructions and the nice music! It took 1:30 to download the ±30Gb, roughly 10-15 minutes to verify, about 50 minutes to unzip the file and transfer it to an USB stick, and then another 20-25 minuets to install everything in my 2015 340iX. All in all it's quite a lot of work for a glorified TomTom (which isn't as user-friendly as the real TomTom I might add!) and I wonder why BMW just doesn't sell USB sticks with the maps pre-installed at the dealership in combination with a one-time activation code. Or perhaps be able to order an USB stick online and then have it delivered by mail? It would save a lot of hassle. The previous map, the 2017-4 version, had lots of missing information (and I'm NOT talking about some little dirt road that wasn't on the map, but I'm talking missing highways and major intersections that opened before 2017!) so now I'm curious to see if they finally plugged those holes. Anyway, I'm not holding my breath. 🙄
I'm close to buying an f30 320d 2017 x drive. Can I do this after I purchase the car? And more importantly can I upgrade the screen to the 8inch one? Thanks people
you're better off getting the large screen from the start otherwise you could invalidate your warranty.. all upgrades and updates are done via the BMW connected drive store. Have a look to check the prices as nothing is free with BMW. would advise the infotainment, maps and remote cockpit. :)
When I go to this page, it doesn't look anything like it. Additionally, I don't see a 'Remote Cockpit' or anything similar. I do not see any options for maps or updating navigation, can you help?
If I start the usb update can I turn off the car mid update and will it resume or do I have to stay in the car? A friend says his took 40 mins to update! The 2018 maps are 32gb in size!
Can you help me please, i follow all the steps from the video but when i plug in the pen drive nothing shows up at the screen. And the download match with my bmw model and Vin number, but nothing happens when I plug in the pen drive at the car.
Dear Gasb, it means that the I drive system did not recognise ghetto map; means that the map was not uploaded well onto USB! Reasons might be wrong format especially if you used Mac 💻
Don’t you need an activation code to update the maps? I had to enter a code when I updated my North American maps for European maps for my wife’s 2011 X5.
When I updated my map, I also update the Real Time Traffic Information subscription because it had run out. It also asked me the code and once I entered it, the Real Time Traffic Information immediately became visible again, so I suspect that the activation code is related to the Real Time Traffic Information and not to the actual map update.
744 748 no dear, the activation code is important to unlock the map..but if you use lifetime code once then you don’t need any code next time you update the map
Finally downloaded the map today, it asks me for a "'USB Device'' that is more than 22.68GB in capacity. I have plenty of USB flash drives but non has more than 16 GB. So I plugged in my USB portable HDD which is also a USB Device. It recognized it but saying only support FAT32. This is 2018. Windows 10 has no longer supporting FAT32. Does BMW still expect their customers using Windows XP in 2018? The best part was after I managed to format my drive to FAT32 using some third party software I am getting a Non-compatible medium error!! Is it because of the portable HDD? Why the BMW software didn't tell me beforehand? The BMW software is the worst in the market. It is so stupid. Getting a Tomtom and stick to the windscreen is the only option as long as you are driving a BMW.
Better than the original how-to video from BMW which ends when the USB creation is done, not mentioning how to install it on the car. Thank you.

David Pugh FAT32 is MS-DOS FAT in Disk Utility.

Yes you can. The latter is only advisable if your car is out of warranty.

a year later.. anyone have a solution?
@@naradaashurst1861 Believe BMW took this option out and now make you pay for the honour of them updating it for you...
Really helpful video explained simply. Liked & subscribed
Does this update improve the look of the maps or is it an update for roads only? Thanks
G B roads. Though it does depend on your car’s Headunit I suppose. Mine is a ENTRYEVO headunit.
the US connected drive screen looks different and does not have the remote option????

Yes you can turn off your car, just don't close it as it will pause the update, leave the ignition on with the engine off

Guilherme Gasbarro same as mine
