It's ok cause they give more stuff? Stuff that has been standard in every other bike for 10s of thousands cheaper? I only ride harleys but getting seriously sick as bikes are pushing closer to 30,000 and cvo 40,000.....is anyone seeing this? It's a motorcycle! Are these technological wonders? Are there bikes with more tech and uses better quality stuff..that are cheaper? Yes...but I love them but I'm getting closer to trying other shit....(I say this as i but a 2020)
With the price of the bikes it is frustrating to see them taking away from the bikes regardless if some people take the items off. The vent doors on the fairing are a really nice feature for us in the northern climates when we are trying to stretch the riding season and block as much of the cold air as possible.
Exactly...that's really bad. Those vents push alot of air in. Nice in the summer but sucks in the winter. That's a stupid idea. If anything they should remove those vents and just keep the top ones..
@@asoshkin I agree. Block them off or have a button. Those penny pushers dont ride in the winter months . Not only do you get all the bugs that fly thru the vents and some rocks. I would like to see those penny pushers ride in 15 degree weather and tell me that was a good idea .
I have a road glide the inner fairings need to close. Either paint the whole fairing or not looks horrible. I own a 2019 Indian chieftain dark horse also both bikes have good and bad but Harley just ruined the road glide fairing I am looking at the Indian dressers because of this!
@@epicmotoadventures7091 If you have a Road Glide you should try closing the 2 bottom ones makes a big difference in 50 degree and lower. As long as I keep the top one open the buffeting is not too bad. I ride in the 30's in MD (not a ton) but get out a lot in the winter.
I never have closed my vent everrr! 2016 StreetGlide Special. I think this is a great idea, don’t know anyone who closes it. Heel shifter.... took it off right away on my Deluxe and on the StreetGlide.
I have a 2017 Road Glide and I close my lower vents in the winter, top stays open all the time. Tons of air comes through those lower 2 vents and that would frosty in the winter. I guess in you live in CA keep them open... Definitely bean counting. I will always have a heal shifter.
Last fall the left side vent door hung up and absolutely wouldn’t close on a chilly morning. At the end of a 150 mile run my left shoulder was REALLY not happy. My experience is they make a huge difference.
Coming from owning a dyna and riding with the wind in my face? That little vent don’t bother me when I’m riding my 20’ SG standard. I too ride in cold weather. Them soft lowers sure does it’s job.
Harley just gave me more reason to keep my 15 Limited. I want the second key fob in case something goes wrong with or lose one. Like you Matt, I love my heel shifter. The button on the fairing is nice in case you get caught in the Florida rain. The soft bags, I have used them many times. I don't need all this extra connectivity. I would rather have some of the more useful items they are doing away with. I know you say you would throw in the heel shifter if they mention this video since the cost to you is small. The cost is even smaller to the factory. And you stated you would also throw in the extra key fob with a full priced 1000 mile service with mention of the video, which also means the cost to you is small, and even smaller to the factory. I'm sure a lot of people commenting on here possibly feel the same way. Maybe you should mention this to the Motor Company.
I have owned 4 harley's, a 2006 Ultra Classic, a 2011 Ultra Classic Limited ( a lemon) blew oil. A switchback, and my current 2015 Ultra Classic Limited., best bike I've owned. My favorite dealership owners retired. Two other dealerships closed or gave up their franchise. I think the 2015 is my last Harley at my age. Next one will probably be a trike. Harley won't be my choice.
I bought a 2015 sportster from Laidlaw Harley last month and I gotta tell y'all. This dude is humble and very passionate about HD. he's the boss and he walks around like a regular normal employee, he's much taller in person than in videos. Very nice facility and friendly helpful staff. If you're looking to buy a HD give Laidlaw HD a chance yo earn your business. Thanks 😎
@@roberttorrea1941 isn't it how it should be. walk in, have a nice look around and when you need help, they should be ready when you ask for it, not walk in and be bugged with the question "can i help you" where you say no i want to look first ? ;)
I wish I would have taken the 400 mile ride south to LA to buy from him instead of 45 miles north to Yuba City Harley Davidson. I think I would have gotten more bang for my buck.
Matt - you’re right. Bean counters! Cutting stuff that should be on the bike. I would hate not having a heel shifter on my 2018 115th Anniversary SGS and it’s my first bike with one. I have never upshifted with my toe - not even once. And no second key? Really?? Oh - and BTW - I’m a bean counter CPA.
Ridden nothing but HD since 1987. At my age I 'm sure they don't care about my likes or dislikes. The changes I see are just cheaping , & cost cutting . I'll keep riding my 2017 RK special
The vent doors being eliminated especially on the Road Glide is just eff'n stupid. Sure you live in a warm weather state so no big deal. So what am I to do in early spring and late fall in the rust belt to avoid the cold wind blowing or rain coming up the pipe? All the vent doors NEED to return if they want returning customers. I was already thinking of a MY20 Road Glide Special but now, not so much. Never used a heel shifter on any bike that had it.
Being that H-D has HQ in Milwaukee, you would think they might understand the need to close vents in the cold, but it looks like the old farts just design the bikes and not ride them.
I would personally hold off on buying a new HD. They've already filed a patent for their M8 replacement engine and those M8 models will decrease like the 103s did.
I seriously don't get what the big deal is about not being able to close the lower vents on the Road Glide. When the doors are open on mine I can't feel ANY air flow past the handlebars and it does absolutely nothing to keep me warmer in colder weather. Also to think it keeps you from getting wetter while riding in the rain is almost laughable. Drive your car! Lol! I make these comments tongue and cheek so don't get all but hurt and defensive. Just enjoy the ride and realize there isn't a big deal to any of these things they took away. One other thing about the lower vent doors, all I had heard from the guys that opened and closed them all the time is how the little catch would break and they would stop working and have to get replaced under warranty.
Bill Barnews you could buy a Honda shadow and do any mod you want to the thing for half the price of those touring bikes, Harley is just way too expensive nowadays especially for the younger generation!
Those Road Glide side fairing vents definitely get used in the winter in Oregon. I imagine other states with the same weather. Strange thing to remove. If you don’t use it who care if you do you’re SOL
I’m going to miss closing the vents on my 2018 road glide , hit a deer on the way home from work early one morning and trashed the bike ; my road glide limited will be in come November, here in Iowa it could be a long 60 miles home from the dealer , at least I won’t have another heal shifter to put in my collection
So glad I bought 2019....heal shifter, closed vents and bags to my hotel room its all about comfort. 2021 will probably come without the front wheel.......most of guys doing wheele anyway Good video!
That’s the first time in my life that I see the previous year being better than the next model. Shame. 17 inches in the front wheel is better than 18. What about the front fender chrome? Gone with the bags. Also glad for having a 2019 Ultra Limited.
Maybe I'm wrong but as a long time Harley owner, I've never seen the company, until now, cheapen their bikes up like this nickel and dime sh*t. Screw their bean counters and directors who have brought the company down to this level. I happen to want the additional key fob, heel shifter, etc. I was just pricing a new touring machine and did not notice this crap. This is the stuff that is in plain sight. What about the internal things that you can't see? I'll keep my '04 Ultra a little longer and when it comes to replacing it. I'll look at something else or quit riding entirely. After 40+ years, this is what I've got to deal with? I don't think so! And yes, they have increased the price.
So keep your 04' as it's a great bike but your claims are somewhat ridiculous. Even with taking away these 5 small things the 2020 bikes are heads and tails better over the 08' and earlier bikes. If you are happy with what you have and don't need a new bike that's great just ride on and don't worry about it. BTW... while they did take away 5 small things they did make things like ABS standard and that alone it way more of a cost than all 5 things they took away. I get it though, some people just want to complain so if that make you feel better keep on.
I agree with you. Vents non adjustable=simple factory install, heel shifter missing=customer has to buy BUT this dealer will eat change so you will get proper deal however HD problem is there is no fully loaded HD on floor. Even CVO has more options to buy to get complete. Competition is offering models complete minus slip on choice. Oh well.
@@glennholland2431 I've been riding Harley's my entire adult life. The other day I finally test rode a GoldWing and duh, surprise ! surprise ! I was amazed at how it was a more superior motorcycle in every way.
You say this, but you're riding a 15 year old bike. No offense, but they arent making these changes and thinking about you as a lost customer. They're struggling with declining sales and trying to trim what they think is excess. I own a fatboy with 2 fobs, and I've never missed the extra fob.
It doesn't rain in California so you wouldn't need the vent closed on the batwing fairing would you. But here in Minnesota it rains and I thank GOD every day that I can close it on my 2014 limited with the Daytona Blue. Good video anyway thanks
It's to bad I retired, now I won't be able to upgrade from my 2014. With not working anymore I can't afford it. I have 53000 on it now. I hope for a few more years before I am unable to ride anymore. The joy of getting old. but at least I got the right geezer machine
Gee, only one key fob! I set my override code, but I have always removed the battery from second fob, tape battery to the outside of fob, wrap it up and hide it in the bottom back of saddle bag..... I also taped an extra saddle bag key in back of fairing pocket, now that I have a CVO, I can use code to unlock bags. Just like always having a back up plan. I would miss the extra fob and the shifter and the vents. Ocala Fl. Great video, super info!! So happy I bought a 2019 CVO Road Glide!!!
I have the 2019 street glide. I took heal shifter off. My vent is always open I like the two fobs though. The price was good and this bike really handles like a dream. I drove Roadking for ten years and a dyna wide glide ten years. This is however a class of its own. Power of 114 is sweet and handles like a dream. I will tweak it to my liking bars and shield and foot pegs. I’m a six footer and 210. A few minor adjustments and I’msure I will ride this for ten years. I’m 66 and still ride like I stole it. Street glide and road glide are my favourites. I got 45 years in the saddle. Live life while you can.
Well I think you are correct on initial feelings! First, I have a 2019 Roadglide Ultra and it did come with the bag liners, as ALL the Ultra's have in the past. Second I have been riding with a heal shifter for so long that as you say "muscle memory " is a reflex that riding without one causes me to miss shifts. I have always bought the CVO extended shifter and replaced the stock, it gives just enough extra room. Third, the deletion of the vent doors is a huge mistake! The lower vents on the Roadglide funnel air directly towards the rider, BUT in Florida the sand on the highway picked up from a semi will blind you with them open. Try riding in a monsoon of a rainstorm with the vents open..it's a NO BUENO!! Fourth the key fob delete is nothing short of a bean counter move. Perhaps people don't use both, but there are some that do. When traveling 2 up for instance it's always nice to both have a fob. I mean might as well delete the second Barrel key as well! And as far as the inner fairing goes I have replaced them with a full painted to match inner fairing. But why do some of the fairing and not all?? Those are my thoughts. A premium bike that is deleting bits and pieces just feels like Accounting gone bad!! Sorry but it is just pissing me off!!! Thanks Matt. Did not know of the changes until now.
I have the initial pissed off feeling that I believe you had. But good on your dealer throwing in free heel shifters and an extra fob if wanted by people!
Good on you guys for adding those things through your dealership. I was expecting big things this year after the sales of harleys last year and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. The fact that ABS is now standard doesnt not justify the things that were taken away. I think ABS is pretty well standard among most brands now. The one fob and lack of heal shifter seems like a ploy to sell more aftermarket accessories. Again, kudos to your dealership for making up for these faults but I know most dealerships wont do the same. Hope harley either adjusts the prices for the changes or gives those components back in upcoming years.
I regularly switch from one fob to another, although I always change batteries at the same time. Anyway at least twice in 10 years the 2nd fob has prevented me from having to improvise with the alternative method in order not to get stranded at home after a reasonable period the bike was stopped
Glad my 2019 Road Glide Special is home and paid for , using the heel shifter and adjusting the vents are key to great riding in New England. Thank you for providing rear shift when requested, class act Matt, even though not a big expense.
I have a '19 and I close the vent when it is raining or a bit cold out, always use the heel shifter, have the second fob on a nail above my desk with the spare key..What's wrong with me? What's next with the bean counters?? Drop the floor boards and go with pegs?
Same! My first heel shifter was my 2017 Fat Boy. At first I didn’t use it at all. Then after a couple of weeks I decided to try it out. It took a little bit of getting used to, and then suddenly I wondered how I would ever ride without it?
I don’t care about the fob. I am disappointed about the lack of heel shifter and more so disappointed in the lack of luggage. One would think luggage would be key in a touring machine. I’d love to know their rationale behind no bags.
Name any other brand of motorcycle that offer those types of bags with their touring bikes. Fact is that if HD had never offered those in the past no one would even care. It's not like they took away the tour pack and saddlebags.
I totally disagree with you on the side vents Up here in the colder climates I for one keep the doors closed. Don’t get any buffeting. Only buffering is when I close the top vent. IMO Harley-Davidson made a mistake It’s easy for you Westerners saying you always keep them open. I’m talking about the Road Glide Ultra
I don't close my vent on top of my Road Glide, but the ones below are closed in cold temps and open in hot days. That's a bummer ad quite a bit of wind blows through those vents and not able to close them on cold days is not a good thing at all.
Excellent post and very good timing (for me). I have a 2017 HD Road Glide Ultra w-25,000 miles. Went to look at the 2020 Road Glide Limited - your "points" were not disclosed by the dealer. While I get the technologies - cutting out the heel shifter, second fob (that I do carry when I travel for 3 to 4 weeks at a time), fairing vent doors I do use in the North East and cutting the bag liners is poor form when I am paying $30K plus. I'll be keeping the 2017 - thanks for the post!!
I’ve evolved to a road glide! During spring & fall I’m continually opening & closing the vents on the raid glide. It really impacts my comfort level. This should be an option when you purchase the glide.
Pretty soon Harley will only sell a frame and engine under MSRP. Everything else will be optional and add to the price. It will be known as "build your own bike". Buying a Harley will be likened to a trip through a salad bar. Dealer markup only comes into play when the bikes are selling like hot cakes, which today, Harleys are not. Notice how they keep pointing out 5 "small" changes. My question would be how much did Harley drop the MSRP on this year's bike to reflect the 5 "small" changes?
@@gghostrrider I think you'll find if you try to build a bike using parts from a dealer it'll cost 4 times or more a new bike price. If it ever came to that it wouldn't be to adjust the price in the consumer's favor.
I recently traded in my 2015 UL for a 2020 UL. I love the 114, am happy with the tweeks in the the infotainment, but am VERY dissapointed at the things they took away. If you don't like the heel shifter, you had the option of taking it off, now, just another expense. I really have a hard time finding neutral without it!! The one key fob, ehhh, whatever. No CB radio, as a road captain, we used it to communicate on rides, but again, ehhhh. I am dissapointed not to have my soft luggage, but I kept mine from my 2015, so, not SUCH a biggie. Matt, I think you will find a lot of riders are very upset at not being able to close our fairing vents now!!! We ride in the rain/cold, and trust me, it does make a HUGE difference. Overall, I love my 2020 and will continue to ride the best bikes on the road today, but I gotta say, I'm not feeling the love from the motor company like I have in the past.
Flame Killa you’re right it is a love-hate relationship I love the brand in the bike is pretty cool but I cannot get over the cost of these motorcycles and then when you go back for service or parts it is completely out of control… I understand the cost of doing business and if you don’t sell enough motorcycles you have to hit the customer with parts and labor
The first thing I took off my bike was the heel shifter. I tried riding with the heel shifter and always used my toe (habits are hard to break). I move my feet a lot on long trips. The heel shifter prevents that. I have only ever used one fob so it really doesn't bother me.
I just bought a 2019 Road Glide Special and I'm glad it was the 2019 model, because of all the changes you just mentioned I never looked at the 2020 model. Yes the bean counters are stirring HD down the wrong path.
No heel shifter? Since I started riding Harleys, that kinda became a signature feature that I came to really appreciate. I think it’s cool that you guys add it at no cost. I think that Harley should have left it on and gave the option to take it off. One fob, I guess is OK. Closing the vents during cold weather and rain was a good option, I am not sure why you would take this away...
I don’t like not having the heal shifter! Also I have a Road Glide Ultra 2019 I can’t believe they did away with the vent shut offs! It get cold here in the Midwest! I shut mine off all the time. My two cents. Thanks for the video Matt and Ride Safe!
IMO they took away the wrong vent buttons on the rg. I never close the top vent but I do open/close the side vents especially around semis, high winds, cold weather and rain.
When did the motor company get rid of the front and rear fender lights on the Electra Glide ? Must have toe & heal shifter !! Must have Saddle bag liners !
I noticed that as well. I think it's because it makes the bike look dated. The street glide being Harley's biggest seller doesn't have them so when you see them it automatically differentiates the bikes...that is what I was thinking anyway
Shane I believing the motor company is giving less & thinking less is better & hoping no one will notice or say anything . Because we are Harley-Davidson loyalist..🤔
When I first got my Road Glide I refused to use my heel shifter, I was a tow man. After getting use to my bike I began to shift with my heel shifter I wouldn’t ride without it. Sucks that HD wouldn’t give you that option
Preface, I have a ‘19 Ultra Limited 1: I took the heel shifter off before I left the dealership...never missed it but I did take it home with me 2: I like my backup key FOB 😭 3: I agree about the alway open vents, I never close the top vent on my batwing 4: Sucks about the bags, I like having perfectly fit liners for my saddlebags I love how the app sends a notification that the Livewire is charged...I can see it now sitting around with the buddies “Welp I can head out now guys my bike is charged”
Long time rider, 1st time Harley owner. Bought a new ‘17 ultra limited in early ‘18. Absolutely love it and I couldn’t go without the heel shifter or the bags. The wife is always with me and we are always staying the night somewhere. Also definitely close the vents in the fall PA season. 2nd key fob? Mines always hanging on the key rack at home collecting dust.
I think it's actually good idea for Harley to not include it on the bikes from the factory. Make it a dealer installed item at NO COST that way they're not wasting material and money on bikes where people don't want it.
Matt you’re missing my point… If you take these off and people want them now you have to buy them and no I cannot see where prices went down yes you are a dealer and you may have some insight to this but I look at them every weekend and the price forstreetglide are continually rising
Not to self. Come spring I'll buy a left over 19 , here in Wisconsin the functional vents would be useful. I dont mind the no heel heel shifters my dyna didnt have it, and i took it off my softail deluxe
Your review is 100% spot on! The heel shifter was removed right away (I like the extra room on the footboard and none of my other bikes have one) and I never close my vents as it does cause too much buffeting. One must have on the road glide are vent inserts (Klockworks) as they keep the bugs and bee's off of your lap when they come thru the vents. Its no fun having bee's crawling up your shirt or neck at 80 mph. The key FOB will probably never be used and returned brand new with the vehicle just like all of my others when its trade in time.
Honestly, the new rims on the 2020 SGS and RGS are ugly to me. Should have kept the talon wheels. I'm ok with the one FOB. However, I think more people use the heel shifter than not. If you happen to be wearing shoes that you don't want to scuff with the toe shifter, the heel shifter is really nice. Also, I find shifting with my heel is more satisfying. The vent change is ok with me, but living in SoCal you don't really need it. Riders in areas with more rain probably won't like it.
Gotta have the heel shifter. And I really miss not being able to close those vents. I use mine to help take the wind off of me in the cold and with them open in the rain blows up underneath the chin of my helmet. Hopefully an aftermarket removable plug kit comes available for the vents for cold weather riding.
Almost have my 80,000 mile HOG mileage patch. On my RGU, I never ride with the fairing vents open. This might be a deal breaker with me upgrading. Also, my wife rides with me all the time and she always carries the spare FOB with her. I guess I would need to buy a second FOB and that is likely HD’s plan.
I rode the 2020 Road Glide when the demo truck was in my area. The toe shifter was set really low. I couldn't really get my boot under it to upshift. Had to use the edge of the soul of my boot.
I removed my heel shifter one week after getting my 2018 Road Glide, now on long rides I can move my foot around on the floorboard, much more comfortable. Anybody that wants a heel shifter can by my takeoff, only 150 miles of use.
I constantly close all three vents on my 2016 road glide ultra. Definitely helps keep rain off. I ride all year in New Jersey and they also help with the cold weather. I wonder if the older style with closing vents can be retrofitted onto the 2020?
Extra fob is a big deal if you have to purchase a new one. Vents and heel shifter should also have stayed. Let the owner decide to use them or not. This is nothing more than a cost cutting measure from the MOCO. Bad business decision. Will push more consumers to other brands.
Glad I Purchased a 2019 RGS after seeing them eliminate the doors on the lower vents, the MoCo is in Wisconsin, do they not ride their own machines in cold weather? Completely stupid IMO. I installed screens to stop bees from hitting me in the face, but you still need the doors on the vents, sorry HD. The key fob thing is Meh, I purchased the fancy flip key/fob combo for my bike, they should include that standard since they eliminated the second fob. The elimination of the heel shifter is stupid, and I say that as someone who removes the heel shifter as soon as I get it home. Some guys like it, I dont, but it should be the purchasers choice, if it stays or goes, and it shouldnt have to be purchased seperately if you want it, good on you matt for including them free of charge.
The heel shifter was the first thing I took off of my Road Glide Special. One of the best after market parts I've put on it was the Covington's Customs delete spacer for it.
I have a '19 heritage 114 and one of the key fobs broke where the key ring goes in at cuz my keys got hung up on a forklift when I hopped off. Glad I had a second one
So, my 2018 street glide is my 1st touring bike. I’ve had 3 Vrod’s, messed up and took a street glide for a test ride....sold. Street Glide was my 1st heel/toe shifter, man, I love that thing, what’s more, my shoes love that thing!! Will be a must for me from now on I can tell you that. Love your vids man, keep up the good work!!
I have a 2020 RG Limited. Added the heal shifter, wish I had the vent doors and FOB. It gets cold in NH. I also ride in the rain on trips. Like the RDRS and the 114.
Once again Harley's "less is more" bs. I think the air vent doors were/are useful in rain etc... the no heal shifter, leave it on Harley, dont penalize us folks that do use them for people that dont. So because of them now we have to buy the bike and now buy the heal shifter (make it a CHEAP option at least not have us pay full price), the 2nd key fob is nice so when our 1st fob battery dies we have the 2nd one to use until we get a new battery,. You mentioned the "harley connect" which yes is kind of cool but Harley is CHARGING for it, so its not like its this great add on. Other companies offer it for free. Another HUGE issue is the new CVO (TOP OF THE LINE HARLEY) now has no lower fairings. So now not only are there no lowers, but you loose 2 speakers!! You mentioned Harley is adding stuff like abs for free... well why was it $795 plus option on my wife's bike? Again shame on you Harley. Lol wow really, no more 3 bags in the Ultra Limited for 2020? Im glad i got the 2019 Ultra Limited. I actually use them on my over night trips. Again the no vent button on the front bat wing.. i always close it in a heavy rain.... it makes a difference. You say we got all this stuff but its all extra $$$ yet the price didn't really drop, yet they took stuff away... COME ON HARLEY!!!
The price went up $500 on the road glide special in Australia but they’re removing things. The new wheels are terrible. I’m going to look for a ‘19 RGS. The dull dash is ugly and you should get a second key fob. I think it’s awesome you guys are offering that with a service and the heel shifter by mentioning the video. You don’t talk down Harley as much as you should but your actions speaks volumes on your true opinion.
I wish they kept the bat wing vent, I had my 19 with it and when in the cold weather it was nice keeping cold air hitting my face, looking to see if I can purchase one and install it on my 2022
Couldn't disagree more on the RG fairing vent buttons. I close mine all the time. Day ride turns into night, temps drop, and if I don't bring a vest or jacket I end up closing my vents. It blocks a ton of air from hitting my core and making me cold. I also close the vents when I get caught in the rain. I often wonder if the people at HD making the decisions actually ride the bikes. I am using my 2nd FOB as well. Heel shifter, never used
@@MattLaidlaw I grew up down the road from your dealership.(San Dimas CA) I recall once the sun went down the temps dropped quite bit. Surprised you didn't feel the need to close the vents. BTW, really appreciate the videos, I get my "see home fix" even if I haven't lived out there in 35 years and only visit once in a while. Plus your videos are informative and enjoyable to watch. You and John Maxwell are my favorite motorcycle videos. :)
Great job Matt on the video ,, I just bought a 2020 Ultra Limited and was disappointed about those 5 changes HD has made. My dealer said that 95% of their customers used the Heel Shifter, FOB and Vent Closer as do I. They called it changes made by the "Bad Decision Department" bean counters and NOT so-called surveys.
I bought a 2018 FLTRU and rode across Canada coast to coast in 2020. Great trip, but after the first day I broke the big toe on my left foot, thank god for the heel shifter.
I've got on other bikes since I bought the 05 roadking and now I have a 19 roadglide and I feel lost without the he heelshifter though one time the front loosened once on my roadking while riding. I adjusted quickly though.
Thanks for the info. I have a ‘15 Ultra Limited Low with the heel shifter. Use it all the time. When I upgrade I would positively want the heel shifter.
I always take the heel shifter off because it’s in the way of my foot. My second fob has been in my desk drawer from day one, so no loss there. The vent on my Ultra Limited always stayed open, but I do close the vent on my Road Glide Ultra in the cold. It does make a difference there. So, I will miss that on the Road Glides.
I get the one key fob, but I also live by the heel shifter and I always open and close the vents. Cold weather, rain, just don’t want as much wind, all depends on my mood and how I want to setup MY bike.
Never used a bike with heel shifter until I was 57, and I took to it like a duck to water, love heel shifting. And as an owner of a 2018 Road Glide Ultra, I open and close my fairing vents all the time. When it's hot, they're open, cold they're closed. And yes I did get the 3 bags with my 2018 Road Glide Ultra.
You are right about the key fob, my other one is just in the drawer and never gets used, but I do like the fact that it's available if needed. Even though I can override the security system. As for the heel toe shifter, I use mine on my 2019 RGS, but a lot of times I go back to my liter bike days and only use the toe shifter and have to remember that there is a heel shifter also. As for the key fob, can you order a second one if we really wanted too?
Just bought a 2020 Road Glide Ultra Limited and the only thing I am missing is the heel shift. I will be adding it to mine. I still have the bags for my 2014 and they are holding up like new. I never used my 2nd fob and i'm not sure where I put it anyway. thanks for the great video.
Sold my '17 Street Glide now that I'm not riding from TX to PA and back anymore. Bought a 2020 Low Rider S that I absolutely LOVE but I would be lying if I said I didn't miss that heel shifter. Total game changer imo.
I prefer the heel shifter option. I like the option of closing the vents especially when riding in rain. I never liked the black out style. I love chrome. I guess I’ll hang on to my 2015 Road Glide.
Just got a RG and was taken back by how much wind I was getting blasted by compared to the SG I traded in. Now after riding it a while I might agree with not closing it but as of now I would have liked the option.
Hello I ride an 2017 Limited. I use both fobs. I keep one in my summer jacket and the other in my leather coat. But I also rotate my vehicle fabs yearly. I have only owned two bikes a limited and 07 ultra and love the heel shifter. I also shut the wind deflector at speeds under 50 mph. This gives me a lot more air through my full helmet on warm days. Tks
We get lots of rain here in Ireland, I close the vent on my streetglide special in heavy rain when I am getting on down the road, I find it helps keep water out of my face and a huge upgrade was the klockwerks screen, huge difference and improvement over the stock screen, much less wind noise and buffeting and channels water over and to the side. One of the first things I done was take off the heel shifter as it does not allow me move my left foot. I don't have huge feet by the way, man size feet 😉. But I find just being able to move my foot position slightly stops getting leg cramps especially on long trips.
All bikes, regardless of family, that come with security just have one fob. This includes softails and sportsters.
A stoners nightmare “ I can’t find my keys 🔑🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I think it's just nickle and diming from Harleydavison , you can buy the other , that's just cheaply done bad customer relations. .
Well I got 2 fobs when I got my 18FXBB!
I am really surprised they eliminated the buttons to open and close the vents. I ride in the winter and keeping the cold wind out is a must .
Exactly...that's really bad. Those vents push alot of air in. Nice in the summer but sucks in the winter. That's a stupid idea. If anything they should remove those vents and just keep the top ones..
Kinda sucks that you spend 30k on a bike and have to blocks the vents with tube socks wrapped in a plastic grocery bag. SMDH
I own a 2019 Indian chieftain dark horse also both bikes have good and bad but Harley just ruined the road glide fairing I am looking at the Indian dressers because of this!
taps 1021 put some expanding foam in those vents
Wow,32,000$ motorcycle, harley should give free oil changes, extra fob and bag liners should be standard. What part of touring doesn't Harley understand?
making the indian challenger look better and better everyday
My roadglide's suspension is made by Mattel and turned by Fisher price. Just dumped 2k on suspension just to make it ride like it should.
And also a decent suspension.
AND a $50 made in China t shirt should be included. H-D philosophy of "get less, pay more" is the demise of the brand.
Harley has gotten stingy its all about the money ...HOW MUCH CAN THEY HAVE YOU BLEED! That simple
Not wanting to close a vent??? You clearly don't ride in the rain or midwest spring, fall, and early winter
Will Mix I guess to each their own but I ride all year in all weather and I’ve never closed those vents ever.
@@epicmotoadventures7091 florida rain and rain up this way is totally different, when your cold you dont want to get more wet.
I never have closed my vent everrr! 2016 StreetGlide Special. I think this is a great idea, don’t know anyone who closes it. Heel shifter.... took it off right away on my Deluxe and on the StreetGlide.
@@HarleyGurl114 all the guys that we ride with( 30 plue guys )close theirs in the winter time and when it rains.
I definitely close my vents when it’s cold. My bike doesn’t hibernate through the winter
I did on my Ultra Limited as well!! Also when it's pouring rain!
Coming from owning a dyna and riding with the wind in my face? That little vent don’t bother me when I’m riding my 20’ SG standard. I too ride in cold weather. Them soft lowers sure does it’s job.
@@thanosetsitty1896 the street glide vents and road glide vents do completely different things, but I understand what you’re saying.
Ill sell you my 2018 for 30k. Comes with the heel shifter and 2nd key fob. Also some upgrades
Thanks 😎
Nice plug for Laidlaw's,,,,,,,,Matt do you deliver to nebraska lol!!
@DSP awesome....... thanks for the message. What's your next bike in mind. I'm thinking of the 2020 breakout although the deluxe is looking good. 😎
I walk in there 3 months ago it took somebody 30 minutes to come up to me to say if I needed any help
I also have a '17 RKS, changing the handlebars because the stock ones are too uncomfortable. I have the denim gray.
I ride my sportster in the rain and the cold. I also know how to dress for it as well.
I would personally hold off on buying a new HD. They've already filed a patent for their M8 replacement engine and those M8 models will decrease like the 103s did.
Same here, I guess they think you can stuff a red rag in there if the wind is too much. Man that sucks
Looks like Harley is nickel and dimeing to save themselves a buck but the price of a bike is out of reach .
@Jenna Talia Harley Davidson motorcycles have always been expensive. This is not going to hurt that reputation at all.
Bill Barnews No thanks I’ll pass
It's not and indian. It's a Polaris.
Bill Barnews you could buy a Honda shadow and do any mod you want to the thing for half the price of those touring bikes, Harley is just way too expensive nowadays especially for the younger generation!
Marcus Chavez by your logic any pre-1984 ish Harley is a bowling ball. Harley has been bought out as well.
The non closing vents and the cheap looking dull black are the two reasons I chose not to buy a 2020 RG Limited. I’ll just keep my 2018 Special.
2021 will probably come without the front wheel.......most of guys doing wheele anyway
Good video!
I agree thats why i bought a 2019 not a 2020
An indian giving more...
My biggest disappointment is that Laidlaw's HD is around 3000 miles from my apartment! Keep up the good work Matt
It doesn't rain in California so you wouldn't need the vent closed on the batwing fairing would you. But here in Minnesota it rains and I thank GOD every day that I can close it on my 2014 limited with the Daytona Blue. Good video anyway thanks
Someone will make a kit for that before the next model year
Kuryakyn is working on it now...😂
It's to bad I retired, now I won't be able to upgrade from my 2014.
First,
I have a 2019 Roadglide Ultra and it did come with the bag liners, as ALL the Ultra's have in the past.
Thanks for the comment. Good to hear people’s perspective.
Horrible that they took the bag liners out they are very useful for traveling
I have the initial pissed off feeling that I believe you had. But good on your dealer throwing in free heel shifters and an extra fob if wanted by people!
"Free" lol ain't nothing free when you buy them right.
Thank you Matt.... And yes I use my heel shifter all the time!! So I have to say Boooo on that Harley-Davidson....No soft bags with the Ultra??
Good on you guys for adding those things through your dealership. I was expecting big things this year after the sales of harleys last year and I have to say I'm pretty disappointed. The fact that ABS is now standard doesnt not justify the things that were taken away. I think ABS is pretty well standard among most brands now.
The one fob and lack of heal shifter seems like a ploy to sell more aftermarket accessories.
Again, kudos to your dealership for making up for these faults but I know most dealerships wont do the same. Hope harley either adjusts the prices for the changes or gives those components back in upcoming years.
But look at the added stuff..
If you pay attention the dealer give you it for free as long as you get your service there.
They used to throw in a tool kit, didn’t they?
@@pfloydf2579 ya. This dealer will not every dealer
Less standards items more high prices. Well done Harley Davidson management.
Less for more,,,,,,,,,,,,the american way,,,,,,,,,,less to the consumer,,,,,,,,,more to the CEO's
Never had a heel shifter until I bought my 2019 Road Glide Special. I almost took it off glad I didn't once you get used to it you will love it👍
They have a new line of Harley Davidson brand bag's to sell, think that is the reason.
The gloss/flat black combo is absurd IMO. As far as the "side vents", living in North Dakota I routinely open and close mine on my 2015.
I’ve ridden in rain when I definitely wanted my vent closed on my 2019 Limited. No. That wouldn’t be a deal breaker, but I’m glad I bought the ‘19.
When did they quit giving you a key with the cvo?
What about when you get caught in the rain, I had to close the vents a few times in the rain it does make a difference.
I close those vents every fall and open em in the late spring
Build your own bike is actually a good idea, since we customize them so much.
snakechrmr ,LOL @dropping price.
Prices went up for less bike.
Prep, transportation etc are considered markup
@@tonydanzl My point Exactly!
I just want to thank you Matt for all your videos. I've watched them all and as always very professional and honest.
Glad i bought my '19 RGS. For me Harley Davidson is a love hate relationship.
That’s next years feature, no more top vent button.
Because we are
Harley-Davidson loyalist..🤔
When I first got my Road Glide I refused to use my heel shifter, I was a tow man. After getting use to my bike I began to shift with my heel shifter I wouldn’t ride without it. Sucks that HD wouldn’t give you that option
Preface, I have a ‘19 Ultra Limited
1: I took the heel shifter off before I left the dealership...never missed it but I did take it home with me
2: I like my backup key FOB 😭
3: I agree about the alway open vents, I never close the top vent on my batwing
4: Sucks about the bags, I like having perfectly fit liners for my saddlebags
I love how the app sends a notification that the Livewire is charged...I can see it now sitting around with the buddies “Welp I can head out now guys my bike is charged”
Good comment. Thanks for the feed back
Long time rider, 1st time Harley owner.
I wouldn't even know how to ride a dresser without a heel shifter! Very disappointed 😠 Thanks for your transparency Matt!
I think it's actually good idea for Harley to not include it on the bikes from the factory. Make it a dealer installed item at NO COST that way they're not wasting material and money on bikes where people don't want it.
I couldn't really tell from the video, but I hope there's empty spline there to add a heel shifter. I love my heel shifter.
SkylerShaneLee the shaft is the same as before, there's a spacer covering up the splines.
@@btcoward63 That's good news. Thanks.
Matt you’re missing my point… If you take these off and people want them now you have to buy them and no I cannot see where prices went down yes you are a dealer and you may have some insight to this but I look at them every weekend and the price forstreetglide are continually rising
The change to the Fairing is a BIG Deal, for folks who ride in the cold. That Sucks👎
I ride my sportster in the rain and the cold. I also know how to dress for it as well.
Jacob James
Good for you, but bikes with Fairings are a bit different, especially since the normally cost 3 to 4 times more than what you’re riding.
Not to self. Come spring I'll buy a left over 19 , here in Wisconsin the functional vents would be useful. I dont mind the no heel heel shifters my dyna didnt have it, and i took it off my softail deluxe
I am addicted to the heel shifter. Functional and super cool !
Keeps your boots from scuffing...
star66video I like my heal shifter when I ride my bike to work, I don’t mark up my good work shoes.
Yes funtional, super cool? If you say so! Lol
Seriously I have a Harley and no prices have not gone down as you say in some cases
Not really concerned about any of it honestly. I'm a fan of the heal shifter, but, like you said Matt, it's an easy install.
I use the heel shifter everytime, I’d add that option before it left the dealership. 😁
First thing I did was take the heel shifter off.
I rode the 2020 Road Glide when the demo truck was in my area. The toe shifter was set really low. I couldn't really get my boot under it to upshift. Had to use the edge of the soul of my boot.
No Heel Shifter?
That’s what makes a Harley Davidson touring Bike!
I removed my heel shifter one week after getting my 2018 Road Glide, now on long rides I can move my foot around on the floorboard, much more comfortable. Anybody that wants a heel shifter can by my takeoff, only 150 miles of use.
Got rid of heel shifter as soon as I got home. Just in the way
I constantly close all three vents on my 2016 road glide ultra. Definitely helps keep rain off. I ride all year in New Jersey and they also help with the cold weather. I wonder if the older style with closing vents can be retrofitted onto the 2020?
That’s a good question. I’m sure they can, it’s just a matter of how hard it is.
All makes sense to me. Heel shifter comes off right away. Vents always stay open. An extra fob is nice but not that big of deal.
Agreed !!! What a dumb move.
The heel shifter was the first thing I took off of my Road Glide Special. One of the best after market parts I've put on it was the Covington's Customs delete spacer for it.
I LOVE MY HEEL SHIFTER!
I have a '19 heritage 114 and one of the key fobs broke where the key ring goes in at cuz my keys got hung up on a forklift when I hopped off. Glad I had a second one
I like my heel shifter
So, my 2018 street glide is my 1st touring bike. I’ve had 3 Vrod’s, messed up and took a street glide for a test ride....sold. Street Glide was my 1st heel/toe shifter, man, I love that thing, what’s more, my shoes love that thing!! Will be a must for me from now on I can tell you that. Love your vids man, keep up the good work!!
Awesome video as always 👍. But 27k for a Street Glide 😵, thank God I'm not a Street Glide fan.
Heel shifter for sure and I run mine almost level...
I wish they kept the bat wing vent, I had my 19 with it and when in the cold weather it was nice keeping cold air hitting my face, looking to see if I can purchase one and install it on my 2022
Chrome is the only way to go.
Heel shifter, never used
I’m getting that same comment about the vents. I guess in southern CA we don’t have the need as much.
2020?, No thanks, I'll keep my 2016 Road Glide ultra .
$1900 to black it out??? Hahahaha. Good luck throttling out of your tailspin Harley.
I have used the close vent button on my Ultra Classic. Helps when riding in the rain.
Hello
I ride an 2017 Limited.
A friend just got a 2020 Ultra Limited and we noticed that the rear fender does not come with the chrome finder tip.
