    Love my Street Glide. Tried a Road Glide and just couldn’t get used to the fixed fairing. I love the look of a Road Glide and I got nothing bad to say about them, however I’m a Street Glide man all day long.

    After riding both a SG and RG on long trips, here's my two cents worth. The Road Glide gets about .5 gal of gas better millage per fill up then any other bike. As far as handling, not a real lot of difference when riding at speed. Although there is something about the RG I like. 'Feels' more slippery. Slight edge in handling to the RG just on that. Reality is though, I didn't notice any real difference. Going into corners, you're not turning, you're leaning. Different visuals for sure. One thing I noticed though about the ST, is the fairing does protect your hands which I love. Bottom line is per usual, in the eye of the beholder. Both have great points. Full disclosure, I got a Street Glide Special. Love the bike.

    When you are on a 2 lane at highway speeds and there is a semi coming the other way I love the frame mount fairing as it spreads the shock from the trucks wind over the whole bike instead of mainly on the front end

    I have my Electra Glide from 1967 and I put a stereo on it but I always loved the sound of that HD sound better than any stereo. Just bringing up the RPMs and shifting gears is a treat to the ears.

    It’s rider preference. There’s the same video test done by a publication that did a long 800 mile ride and both riders agreed the Street Glide was actually more stable. Which defies logic and surprised both test riders.

      I think it has to do with the aerodynamics of the batwing fairing. The RG has very straight lines, now allowing for the wind to move around it.

      @@HvyMetal4Ever when you're in a strong wind, the batwing will affect your steering because of it mounted on your forks, opposite of the frame mounted fairing.

      I've owned 2 SG's and I just traded in my RK for a RG...
      My head feels like a "bobblehead" with the RG fairing!
      Overall I love the 103 and the 6 speed transmission, thinking I might change the fairing over to a SG?

    Had a 2015 now own a 2017 RG, love it. Big step up from the 103 to the 107 M8 in power. It handles like a dream in town or on the highway. Dragged the kick stand a few times in the corners. RG for life

  • @MOTOPILOT6
    @MOTOPILOT6 3 года назад +11

    More space? The road glide fairing comes back closer to your knees than the SG. The rest of the fairing on the RG does visually feel more spacious tho.

  • @CGR89

    Another benefit is the lack of wind feedback from the fairing. With fork mounted windscreens/fairings strong gusts of wind can move your handlebars, frame mounted fairings buck the wind much better.

    For me it was the environment that made me like the RG over the SG. More specifically I was into sports bikes but my roommate in college had a 13 road glide and that's what got me into Harley's! Then he brought home his carbureted Softail heritage giving me an idea how Harley's have evolved over the years. Happy to say I'm a proud rider of a 2019 road KING Special (get the open wind of the Softail he had but fell in love with the girth of the touring frame I experienced on his. Best of both worlds, for me!)

    The only time I notice the weight of the fairing on my street glide is when I stand the bike up. But I’m also 5’7” and all torso so it’s to be expected. I rode the road glide and it just felt big the whole time. I never got comfortable with the size of the fairing. I’m sure it can handle better at low speeds but I didn’t even feel comfortable doing that. When I first rode the street glide it just felt right. As soon as I let out the clutch and started moving I already knew I was gonna be making a big purchase

    I already know. Rode an 05 FLHRCI for years great ride and enjoyed it. Moved up to a 19 FLTRXS. Was put off by the distance between me and the ferring at first but it isn't really much difference and if I really need to go from radio to GPS I can do it from the handlebars. I had a ferring I put on the roading which made it look and respond more like a street glide. Now that I have a roadglide the difference between it and the roadking is about the same difference between the roadking and a sportster. Handling is so smooth the power is awsome and stopping is the best. The new roadglide doesnt have a CD player. And has the benefit of the cylinder shut off if sitting still to cool the engine.

    The shark, at least the 16 ultra, is more stable in a crosswind. A lot of riders disagree , but I sure tell . The biggest difference is the batwing is so close to you compared to the shark nose. And at 80 on a super windy day, my head was being blown sideways by gusts of wind but my 16 ultra glide tracked like a train, no movement. And the m-8 is just s beast, it has good power well past the older mills ran out. (Loved my 88 twin cam, though, it made the right sounds and it ringed, pinged, clinked and hammered along and put a big grin on your face! Actually the weight onto the front wheel is at least as great as on a street glide, so friction resistance to turning the bars is no less. The real difference is that wind forces on the road glide fairing are transmitted directly to the frame, not the handlebars.

    • @drewp.wiener1205
      @drewp.wiener1205 5 лет назад +8

      See - this is one argument I don't really understand. When you're going fast, not much handlebar turning takes place regardless - it's mostly lean so the headlight is mostly in-line with the bike. And when you're going slow - there's more handlebar turn, but you're still leaning. And if you're not leaning, you're going SUPER slow, so what difference does it make? Headlights in cars are stationary and people aren't crashing for that reason... They crashing because they're idiots...

    • @Shutchohole
      @Shutchohole 4 года назад

      While turning (at speed) you're actually counter steering. Try riding straight and push lightly on the right side of the bars, you will go right. Try it if you don't believe. Therefore you're actually aiming it away from the turn.

      @@drewp.wiener1205 When you're going at highway speeds you actually pull the bars left to lean right. In reality, there's so little movement at highway speeds of the handlebars I don't think this is really much of a factor. The only time you actually turn your handlebars a good amount is at low speeds.

    Sean, I still have my mom's old WIRE RECORDER with wire and my dad speaking to a budgie parakeet (that was in 1955). They are both gone now (so it the bird), but try playing a tape recorder over and over again - they break. When the wire breaks, you just tie it together and it keeps playing. Now try explaining a Wire Recorder to a Millennial. They look at you like they have gas and need to make sure all three "states of matter" don't come out when they fart.

    I have a road glide. I only use it to commute to and from work and when I have a passenger. I am usually on my soft tail. I never sell any of my bikes. I'm 30 and already have two motorcycles and want more

    I put a ton of time on both RG and SG before buying my SGS. i am 5’8” and the RG made me feel too far away from the infotainment system. I couldn’t reach it on the RG. I personally didn’t notice a huge difference in having the fairing on the on bars vs frame. Not enough to justify IMO. Both are amazing bikes.

    Hey Sean Danny Williams here one of your RUclips channel listeners I'm having difficulty trying to figure out how to get to your website that shows the Kevlar motorcycle gloves you keep talking about in every video maybe I'm just a dummy I don't know but if you could get back to me somehow if you find my post or perhaps someone else out there that sees my post could help me out that would be great thank you very much take care bye.

    SG actually handles better. There is a reason that of all PD’s across the country, none chose the RG as the service m/c. The guys that have to ride a motorcycle 8 hours a day, prefer the batwing fairing equipped H-D (E/Glide or S/Glide) because it’s just plain easier to maneuver in moderate to heavy traffic in metro areas as well as providing more hand protection. Many Departments have done numerous studies. If you’re doing a lot of straight line touring though, and can only have one bike, you’ll probably like the RG a little more. I, personally, use my SGS more than my RGS.

    i rented one from orlando and hated it compared to street glide ultra. I didn't notice that much difference between handling between frame mounted and handle bar mounted. I hated that double headlight, shark fairing. I like the 4 gauges all close to each other on street glide

    I have a '17' Road Glide Ultra. When I test drove mine and the Street Glide, I couldn't get used to being that close to the faring on the Street Glide. It was like - do I really want to be that close to my dash? No! I too know owners of the Street Glide who are wanting to change over to the Road Glide. Dealers usually can't keep them in stock.

    Another reason the street glide single light looks like it's still in the 60s.

    Hey man! They put it on the frame so you don't feel the choppy wind on your hands. The bike will feel that wind too so it will start turning left and right .. The other thing is it's getting hard to turn when on high speed due to the resistance of the wind. Basically it gets much easier handled and much safer if you put the fender on the frame. The weight of the fender itself doesn't matter as it will be hung on the fork anyway.

    I personally am torn between the Street Glide and Road Glide, having never rode either. I've got a Sportser 48, but am starting to look at getting a touring machine. I'm 5'4", and wonder how this would fit me without having air ride to bring it down more. A good friend of mine rides his street glide all the time, even though he has other bikes probably more versed for around town. He's taller, but he's always dropping his down with the air ride when stopped.

      I know this is an old post but at 5'4 you might have an issue ? The Streetglide is lowered at the rear but I'm 5'8 and personally wouldn't want to be any shorter. I do have a saddleman solo seat with gel and I believe the standard seat is a little lower but this is a 800 odd lbs bike so test ride one first. If it gets the better of you , you would never stop it falling over!

    I just got back from a 2,845 mile round trip ride on my StreetGlide.
    I’m now wanting a RoadGlide.
    The interstate winds are killer on a SG.

      Hans Brickface more of the fairing wants to shake back and forth from the winds, but only while around a semi and very windy conditions.
      Although some other youtubers I’ve talked to say they haven’t had that issue with their SG so I’m wondering if it was due to my new 9” Freedom Shield which stands up right instead of leaning back like my windsplitter.
      I’m gonna put my windsplitter back on and test it at high speeds on the interstate.
