If you want to see how well this Amazing DIY Lawn Stripe kit works, go and check out my video called "5 LAWN TOOLS YOU CAN BUILD" to see it in action!!
@michaelklinger395 I built it in February so the temp was 45 degrees out. Watch my video called 5 tools you can build...I show it working in that video
Awesome stuff. I have just made this last night and a couple of things: 1. I put my roller length to the centre line of the wheels after originally NOT listening to this video recommendation and put the pipe longer than the wheels. The result was an awful lawn stripe as there was a cancellation effect from the return pass as the pipe had already half folded the grass. Had to take it all apart, cut the pipe and reassemble everything. 2. Add a 40mm x 4mm thick flat bar to the the return bracket that receives the eye bolts from the roller to stiffen it up. Cut the grass with it on last night and it works great. Far better than other rollers out there that use carabenas to hook in to the mower meaning you can't reverse.
I just made a lawn striper for my tractor Using the frame of a spiked aerator That I haven’t used in forever. I replaced the spikes with 3 inch PVC , utilized the shaft from the aerator and will be filling the pipe with pea gravel. I’ll be trying it out for the first time this weekend
My lawn "striper" is simply to cut my lawn 10am. Early enough to still be moist but dry enough to not clump mulching. The stripes looks pass my teenage daughter's approval. "Dad, you got better." Someday, I will make a proper striper, someday. 😆
Best DIY design I have seen so far! I like that it doesn’t require drilling holes into the body or the flap of your lawn mower. I also like the larger 4” diameter roller, just like the expensive ones 😊
I’ll look forward to seeing that. I subbed when I saw your lawn level video earlier this evening, also liked the above ground water system. All great DIY designs!
@@TheLawnDaddy I agree, best DIY design. Quick question, can you still attach the rear bag with the roller on? I’m looking to do this but I need to pick up the grass clippings. Thanks in advance 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thx, glad you like the design. To answer your question, yes you can attach the bag and use the roller. Instead of bagging, have you considered side discharging? It's better for your lawn especially if you have fertilized...if your grass is long you can always double cut to avoid long clippings sitting on top and dying off.
@@TheLawnDaddy cool man! Thanks for the reply. On my property I mulch it but I do a few neighbors and they want it bagged. So hopefully once I got one made and gonna stripe a few of them to Surprise them to see what they say. I was considering just rolling the grass after it was cut WITHOUT the lawnmower to be able to make them easier as something it’s awkward to cut straight lines when they the lawn curves and retaining walls everywhere 🤦🏻♂️ I guess in principal it SHOULD work, have you ever tried that? Just the roller by itself. 🤔
Just finished making mine. While every mower may be different my changes were as follows. >10" L bracket (all items from hd) >Same ideas for opening holes, note that the top hole and the first or closest to the L were what needed to be opened up. >noted for my 22" toro I ended up not using the frame I opted for use of the two large bolts on the handle. I work on these tools at work. So cost of replacement bolts and the large nuts are about 10 bucks tops if it messes up in use. > the brackets take some getting use to. However the results were def a win. > I also note that in my case I had to modify my pipe itself to 22 inches or so as the end caps added to a point I could attach my steel pipe endcaps. In construction of project my pipe threads got messed up. By trip three to home depot because I messed up and grabbed 3" end caps and the pipe thread being messed up i only paid once for my steel pipe. But all worked out. I had to cut the pvc to 22 inches as the end caps add a little more length to overall construction. End all beat all though it works well. I can see the stripes even at night so I can't wait to see what it looks like tomorrow morning in the sun.
It was the end of winter when I built it so I couldn't use it in this video...check out my video "5 Lawn tools you can build" to see it in action. Thx for watching.
Ya I'm gonna be making a video for next week and how all my DIY tools work...I used my striper last weekend and it works awesome...stayed tuned and thanks for the comment.
Hello Lawn Daddy, I have been stripping my lawn for years 30 or more, I always had toro lawn mower and the flap in the back, like yours I put on a heavy pipe at the bottom, work great and lasted until toro came out with the stripper attachment, so that was pretty much free, the pipe was just lying around in the garage, always gave me that extra edge, my first time saying it, now my secret is out.
i just made one of these on the weekend. I made mine mounting the eye bolt to the roller body and also at the back of the mower deck. Then connected the two eye bolts using a carabiner. Works great and easily removable in two seconds. My roller doesnt spin however like yours but it works great.
@@trevor-bd4kt yes I can see it working with gravel, but you had mentioned sand, and I would think that would eventually leak out, even with silicone I would think that would wear away rather quickly also....So gravel is probably the best bet..
Awesome, glad it worked out well for ya. If you go on my channel and click on the about tab, you can click on the Instagram link and direct message me.
Love this idea nice work. I have the same old model toro recycler like you have. If you find your rear wheel plastic cogs are stripped, look to find a aftermarket all metal to metal mesh cog and pinon gear. Made my hand me down mower drive the new. I also wanted to ask how is this having to pivot? 50% of my mowing requires to pivot off a wall and it's annoying... Wondering how this modification would handle the abuse and if it would get in the way. Cheers from the Chicago suburbs.
Pivoting is ok, standard turning around is smooth but up against landscaping bricks is less smooth...striper works great though, I actually took the flap right off and used the flap holes and bolted L brackets right to the frame...much stronger now.
I want to build one of these but I think my problem is when I have to cut along the fence but worst case I have to use the weed eater for that. What we won't do to have a nice lawn!!
Good question, no you don't have to adjust the striper. The brackets have soom play plus the diameter of the striper is big enough to compensate for the height adjustment.
Love your stripping build my hubby built me one the other day working ok just not heavy enough. Showing him this video. Would show a picture but not sure how on here

Great info,,,Go Bills!
Can I still bag my grass if I make 1 of these Lawn Stripe. Thanks. 🙏
Yes, you can still attach the bag.
TY for the great, inexpensive lawn roller video. Sub'd. Peace out...:)
Heck yeah that is badass ...I'm building one.

Wow!! Now that's pretty cool!!
Awesome video man. I am doing this. Great work!!
Great idea AMIGO!!! Regards from México 🇲🇽
Good job!
Those of us with zoysia lawns usually keep them fairly short, and due to the grass’ tendency to stand up straight, striping isn’t that noticeable.
Mr. Build-it with another good one! Now if only that bermuda would lay down nice stripes!
Will the grass caughter still fit on the mower
I think it does yes.

Doesn’t the end caps leave additional lines? Wouldn’t interior caps work better?
They don't leave additional lines.
Just made one of these....go bills

I would use 1/4-3/8" pea gravel or sand. This is genius idea!!
Thx
@ trevor5534....How would you keep the sand from coming out the holes where the threaded pipe goes through?
I used silicone
@@markoakley4343 I built one and used small gravel. Worked great! No leaking out.

How many inches are the L brackets
Not sure the exact length, they were a pretty standard L bracket at home depot. I ended up cutting them after I installed them.
I want to build one of these but I think my problem is when I have to cut along the fence but worst case I have to use the weed eater for that.
What we won't do to have a nice lawn!!
Let’s see the end product your strip’s? I like it because you can go backwards thanks for sharing 😊
Thx, I build this in the winter so couldn't use it in this video, check out my 5 lawn tools you can build video...I show it in action there.
I saw the video looking good did not understand why it was on a different video? You have your reason do not need to know thank for the tip.
Thanks for the Tip Sir Grate video.👍
I will thank you
How does this effect turning around? Would you want something to lift it up on the turn?
There is a little resistance when turning around but not as much as you would think.
Can you still put your bagger on to bag the grass while striping it?
Doesn't look like it.
No, there won't be enough room
What 4 inch pvc pipe did you use cause I bought some 4 inch end caps and didn’t fit. It’ was PVC S&D Cap, 4 in.
I went to home depot or Lowes and bought what they had, not sure why the end caps you bought didn't fit.
So if you remove the rear flap, do you get more discharge of debris?
No not really, always gonna get a little bit.
do you have to readjust the striper every time you adjust the height you're cutting at
Good question, no you don't have to adjust the striper. The brackets have soom play plus the diameter of the striper is big enough to compensate for the height adjustment.
Love your stripping build my hubby built me one the other day working ok just not heavy enough. Showing him this video. Would show a picture but not sure how on here
Did you use a 3" pipe or a 4" pipe? Once I filled mine with gravel, I also poured sand into it to make it heavier...noticable difference.
@@TheLawnDaddy He used a heavy gas pipe inside a pvc pipe with a threaded rod. My pvc pipe is only 3 in I think. I showed him this video think he is going to make me one.
Could something like these be attached to a riding mower?
Im sure they could, just need to mount differently.
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽great vid
Thank you
I love this and am working to build my own exactly like this. My only question is I have seen some that don't have the threaded rod and don't roll. Is this necessary/better to have the rolling set-up? Appreciate any advice!
Yes, it is better to roll. If it doesn't roll, it just drags and u will not get the same result and it could damage your lawn over time.
@@TheLawnDaddy Good to know!
What size is the L bracket you used?
It's a standard size, I bought it at home depot.
SO what Happens if you dont want to Unbolt the Lawn Roller to put the Catcher On, Now Way I doing that to Pull a Catcher on and Off.
Great video. I will be modifying your design to fit behind a JD X738 60" tractor. What kind of weight should i have in the roller? 10lbs?
At least, the more weight you have, the deeper the stripes will look...I would aim for 15lbs minimum.
The LawnDaddy thanks
Anytime

Is there a product list posted anywhere???
It's in the description

Is it possible to get closeup shots of ibolts and nuts/washers to see what you’re using?
They are regular, run of the mill bolts and washers. Bought them at home hardware, bolts, lock washers, regular washers and nuts.
I noticed you didn’t show turning the lawnmower .
Watch my video 5 diy lawn tools you can build, it shows me using it.
L brackets… how tight did you tighten The screw for the L bracket? Looks like the L bracket swivels .. wouldn’t The screw loosen up and fall out?

How does it handle when you reach the end of a pass and have to push down on the handlebar, pivot and turn around?
Wondering the same thing. I asked that also
Yeah BUT, there are lots of restrictions/obstacles in my yard therefore I’ll need more engineering before attempting.
Thanks for many good ideas.
