I have been involved in music since my third grade in Elementary School(I was nine years old). I have heard many bands and orchestras throughout my life but Nightwish is THE GREATEST BAND I have ever seen and heard.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing in 2013 at Wacken Open Air festival, in front of a 82k+ audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I could see, you appreciate all the key elements of a Nightwish show: the intricate composition, the high level of musicianship of all band members, the passion and the happiness they all shared on stage, the stellar vocals of Floor Jansen, our Dutch metal queen. Welcome among us :)
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Love all their live performance videos, can't wait for Human Nature to be performed live with Floor, Marco and Troy singing, either version of How's the Heart will be excellent.
@Dixie Ann proved over years this information is needed for the new reactors. She also proved us all that, even we are so diverse as cultural background, we have something powerful that unites us all. I'm glad I can still leave Ann's work of love at every new reactor to Nightwish. :)

Seen Nightwish four times with Tarja, Anette and Floor at Wacken.and Wembley. Im 52 and Floor gives me goosebumps and i cry. Her voice is the most beautiful i've ever heard. Floor is a Goddess, the Valykrie, the Queen the Commander.
She commands 82,000 people.
Nightwish, Waken 2013 - an amazing gig. Every song. Every performance. The mixing is amazing. You can't go wrong with that gig. It's the one I go back to, all the time.
Discovered Nightwish trough the Nightwish - (Ode To) Shoemaker post on NASASpaceflight. Never heard of them. Best discovery of 2020 for me. THX!
Absolutely true, I have been to many concerts and seen a lot of recordings but this is by far the best recording AND performance every live and im pretty confident this wont be beaten any time soon :)

Just like you said, this is like 5 songs in one. You were glued to the screen. That happens with Nightwish, when you have 6 excellent musicians working together as a family to perfection. Nightwish is from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, keys, is the founder (in 1996), leader, mastermind of the band composing, writing lyrics to and arranging vast majority of Nightwish songs.
Marko Hietala, bass and vocals, Jukka Nevalainen drums, Emppu Vuorinen guitar, and the cherry on top Floor Jansen, vocals. She is Dutch, and she joined Nightwish in 2012 mid US tour on a 48 hour notice. Tuomas: "Please learn the set list and fly to Seattle, you have 48 hours!" Floor: "OK!"
She had suffered from burn out, but was feeling better already.
There is the 6th member Troy Donockley the multi-instrumentalist, from the UK. He can play a dozen instruments bringing Celtic vibes to Nightwish music.
Unfortunately Jukka had to step down because of a bad case of insomnia, and was replaced by a good friend of his Kai Hahto. Jukka is now taking care of the business side of Nightwish.
Floor is the 3rd and current female lead vocalist of Nightwish, versatile vocals, from 2012 on.
The original female lead vocalist of Nightwish was Tarja Turunen, operatic voice, 1996-2005. The 2nd was Anette Olzon from Sweden, pop style vocals, 2007-2012.
Suggesting Nightwish songs to react to is difficult because the band has so many great song different in style, but all good. But Nightwish is at it's best live, even though the official music videos are great too, of high quality.
The performance you just saw was the one that finally got me hooked to Nightwish. I was wondering if the could have another song as good. Then I found "Ever Dream" Wacken 2013 Official Live next, and was impressed again.
A few heavier ones are "Song of Myself", "Romanticide" and "Ghost River" all in Wacken 2013.
Some other Nightwish high quality concert videos are from Wembley Arena 2015, Tampere 2015 (outdoors) and Buenos Aires 2018.

She can sing softly (Shallow), put distortion in her voice (Yours Is An Empty Hope), turn into a dragon and death growl (Yours Is An Empty Hope), and of course sing in operatic tone.
You are going to love your journey. The rabbit hole goes deep, so buckle up and enjoy the ride.

The backing tracks are recorded with the London Philarmonic full orchestra and choir.

Best method for reacting to Nightwish that I figured from watching reactors and discovering them recently and exploring their catalog myself:
Keep the particularly long and complex songs listed below, if you have not watched them already, for after you have seen all the more standard ones from the 4 live shows mentioned in the numbered list:
- Ghost Love Score (Wacken) 10 minutes
- The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley) 14 minutes >>> Doing some research on the background story for this song is very important to be able to appreciate the meaning of the lyrics.
- Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere) 21 minutes
1- Just do all the Wacken 2013 songs, they are all great.
2- Then the Wembley 2015 ones that are not part of the Wacken show.
3- Then the remaining songs from Tampere 2015 that were not in the previous 2 shows mentioned.
4- Then the older songs from Buenos Aires 2018 that were not in the previous 3 shows mentioned.
5- To see what they can do with a cover and if you like Marco's singing, watch their interpretation of Pink Floyd's High Hopes.
6- Then you can explore Floor's versatility with her band ReVamp's live performances of the songs Disdain at Graspop and Wild Card at Bloodstock.
7- And finally go in the deep end of the Floor talent pool by reacting to her performances on Beste Zangers in the order the episodes aired.
For the first 4 steps, you can alternate between shows, but I would recommend to still only take songs that are not performed in the previous shows mentioned, as they are ordered in audio quality from best to worst.
From watching a lot of reactions, in my opinion this is the most efficient order to discover the rabbit hole that is Nightwish and Floor Jansen.

@@cudahitz . You won’t see a better band live. I suggest you save Poet and the Pendulum and Greatest Show on Earth for a later date. Watch the 2013 Wacken ( pronounced Vacken ) live suggestions first. Song of Myself, Story Time, Ever Dream, Romanticide etc.
First taste of Nightwish is often Ghost Love score... but believe me, its 1% of what this band has got waiting for you. Floor jansen is the greatest female vocalist on the planet, she really is a swiss army knife. What styles does she sing? Yes. Phantom of the opera D6 notes through to death metal growls, there is nothing she cant do. And you just got a listen to what Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen can do (keyboards), this guy composes 95% of the Nightwish songs and is an absolute genius. You havent met the rest of the band really... jump in, the Nightwish catalog is at about 120 songs, 24 years, endless live concerts and they just get better and better year on year. This is the biggest rabbit hole in music, and musically its going to change your life if you jump down it. Nightwish army would love to follow you on the journey if you will react to their songs here! Romanticide is a common one to go for next, but there are no losers on the Wacken 2013 concert.

Metalhead + first time hearing Nightwish GLS = a good time for all. You have to listen to the other Wacken 2013 highlights. And there are only highlights...
"Lost for words" This songs 16 years old and Nightwish been around for over 20 years and their still getting better and better. This live performance is 7 years old and this song was 13th on the set list and you've only got to look at their faces their fully enjoying every second , Nordic Symphonic rock at its best. by the best .

Yes her voice is amazing on multiple levels and the passion and the charisma is just captivating!!! But the entire band is extremely talented from an instrumental standpoint from a compositional standpoint and from an execution standpoint they are absolutely top-notch and they are much better live than they are in the studio which is always the sign of a band at the top of their game. All I can say is welcome aboard and be prepared for about a hundred more subs in the next two days!!!!!

Welcome to the Universe of Nightwish, the greatest Symphonic Metal ever. Please read Gabriel's introduction and you could follow his leads to get a small picture of what Nightwish does.
Or you could just follow the setlist from Wacken 2013, starting with Dark Chest of Wonders. This was a legendary concert and you will be blown away by these 6 people, and wouldn't be it is possible to get better.
Then you move to Wembley and Tampere 2015 concerts - with songs written directly to Floor's voice... (in the Wacken 2013 concert, Floor had only been with Nightwish for 10 months, singing old songs - but she changed them to her own versions.)
And the Decades album, Buenos Aires 2018 - phenomenal phenomenal phenomenal
And
Their newest Human Nature, where Floor for the first time was challenged (being the greatest singer in the world!!!) - but she nails in like - well - only Floor can do it.

Welcome to the temptations this 6ft1" Valkyrie Goddess of Metal can bring you. Music written by the "Mozart of Metal" Tuomas performed to perfection by Tuomas himself (keyboards), Marco (bass), Emppu (guitar), Troy (whatever instrument he likes), Jukka (drums, later to be replaced with Kai due to health problems.) and Floor (the divine Goddess herself).
My personal favourite is "Poet and the Pendulum", but you shouldn't review that one without first knowing much more about the background of the band and the song. Plenty of other songs though to keep you busy; not a bad one amongst them.
Welcome to Nightwish - you're going to love it. If you want something with more energy, try "Dark Chest Of Wonders" and "Wish I Had An Angel", the first two songs from Wacken 2013 (same show as this video). For something more catchy and accessible, "Storytime". For something more Metallic, "Romanticide", "Song Of Myself" or "Ghost River". For everything in one package, "Ever Dream".
The Nightwish Army is on their way - we're happy to guide you through your journey. By all means, binge away, but do it on camera, so your Likes and Subs will grow. Nightwish is a special band, and you've only just begun to enter the Dream Emporium.

I have been listening to nightwish for a number of years. In my opinion, if anyone really truly loves the Art of metal or rock, they will discover the true art of music in nightwish. You get a stronger respect for them with every song you listen, and they will climb into your soul and become your favorite band. Nightwish is just a phenom.

CudaHitz - Enjoyed your reaction. About 8 months ago GLS was my first dive into Nightwish and I had the same WTF reaction...and I mean that in a good way. The Army will be here to guide you on the appropriate way to continue down this Rabbit Hole. Listen well and you'll enjoy it as much as I have. My suggestion; Song of Myself. But any other suggestions will be great ones.

I was blown away by this song about two months ago and now I'm hooked. Kind of embarrasing for a Finn who has known their excistence almost since they started to enter the rabbit hole at nearly 40 years of age... 😬 But I guess better late than never. 😅 There are so many songs to pick, but the Wacken 2013 concert has proven to be a good start kit for many. 😄
@@annukkas It's the 23rd anniversary of their first album now. Better late than never! I've known about Nightwish for 10 years now. I dabbled in them a bit for the first 8 and then got HOOKED from this performance in 2018. Worth it. I'm salty I didn't do it sooner. I could've done it in 2015. 😭

I heard this song for the first time last week.... didn't even know what or who nightwish was.... I loved the song but then I listened to their song "the poet and the pendulum" and I was blown away. I had the shivers, I cried, I enjoyed it... so many emotions I felt during that song... with everything I went through in life... it really got to me. You have to listen to it.... or rather.... experience it... ❤
This masterpiece still moves me to tears. Doesn't matter how many times I've heard it. The stars aligned that night at Wacken and magic was created.

This was filmed at Wacken (Pronounced Vacken) in 2013 ,in front of 82.000 people, when Floor had been the groups replacement singer for about 10 months after the fired the previous singer in the middle of a world tour.

Original singer Tarja is different and not as versatile as Floor, but she has this great dark opera voice, lending a different quality to the songs. And the second singer, Anette wasn't very lucky with her live performances but she also has some great songs of her own.
And you haven't even heard Marko and Troy yet.
Man, this was such an enjoyable reaction, your emotions were so plain on your face, I loved it. :D You won't regret going down the Nightwish rabbithole. I listen to all sorts of music, folk, pop, rock, a bit of punk, a bit of metal, but Nightwish are one of my favourite bands hands down. They really are epic, so damn talented, and their music really is an experience. I'd recommend Romanticide, Song of Myself, Everdream and Storytime from that very same Wacken concert for your next experiences. There's so much in store for you even after that. Song of Myself!!! Romanticide!!! If you're a metalhead you will REALLY appreciate the drummer on these, and really just the entire band is *chefs kiss*. "This is music to perfection" ... you couldn't have nailed it better. That's exactly what Nightwish is known for. From Tuomas's songwriting & composing (some call him 'Metal-Mozart'), the instrumental execution, the stage show and last but definitely not least, Floors voice. And what I think is even more remarkable is, that Floor was their vocalist only for about 10 months at this point. She jumped on the bandwagon in the middle of the tour between two concerts after the departure of their former singer. Not one of the songs was written for or with her at this point. Imo it's unreal how she managed to put her own stamp on every song and make it sound as if they were written for her.
The entire rundown of that amazing 2013 Wacken performance of Nightwish...is...just...the best ever live concert!

Then there’s Weak Fantasy from Tampere live which also has another masterpiece The Greatest Show on Earth, and Wembley live with another masterpiece The Poet and the Pendulum and You Are an Empty Hope among others, and then there’s Buenos Aires live with a bunch of killer songs. You won’t regret doing any of their songs. The journey with Nightwish with Floor Jansen is a wonderful thing. 🤟🤟✌️✌️🇨🇦

Start with anything from this concert Wacken 2013...the concert is epic. I love Song of Myself, Romanticide, Everdream, Story time, are just the beginning. The show opens with Dark Chest of Wonders. After you get your feet wet, I would then move on to Yours is an Empty Hope from Wembley, Seven days to the Wolves from Tampere and The Greatest Show on Earth also from Tampere...I know others will request Poet and the Pendulum, but I would wait until you have been further immersed in the band before you can really appreciate the complexities of both the music and the back story of the song. I can't wait to see more of your journey and welcome to the Nightwish Army!

Loved the reaction. I could tell it was genuine for sure. There is absolutely nothing to ever be ashamed about by getting emotional while listening to Nightwish. Floor's angelic vocals have a way of reaching into you and latching on to your soul. Marko, the bassist and primary male vocalist has an amazing voice and range in his own right, but when him and Floor harmonize it lifts everything to a whole new level! All of Nightwish's songs are EPIC... I would recommend though, that if possible, stick to live versions. Their studio and official music videos are great but Nightwish is a band that needs to be heard live to get the full effect. That all being said there are a few videos that I would like to suggest that are my favs and I feel are some of Tuomas's (keyboardist and main composer) most crowning achievements. A couplr of these videos are from when Nightwish headlined at the Wacken Open Air outdoor in Germany in 2013 in front of about 82,000 people. If you are interested in watching the whole concert I have included a link to it below after all of the other videos. Interesting fact is that Floor Jansen is actually Nightwish's third lead vocalist and I believe that the concert at Wacken 2013 was after Floor had only been with the band and was her first major concert as lead vocalist. She nailed it and sounded like she had been with the band a lot longer than that :)

Also, she has been on a show in Norway called Beste Zangers, there are clips of her performances, which are different from her regular metal. Yeah....you'll see this Viking Goddess of Song can sing ANYTHING.

This band is from Finland.
Tuomas is the keyboarder, Songwriter, composer.
Marco is playing the bass and doing also the vocals. He is very versatile and an awesome singer as well. You might watch „The Islander“ from Tampere to experience this.
Emppu is playing the guitar. He can shred it but he always does exactly that much, that is required by the song.
Kai (also Wintersun) is now at the drums and replaced the original drummer Jukka (whom you saw here) who had stop playing the drums due to health issues. But he still is with the band. Julka was a perfect drummer and showman, Kai is a perfect drummer and a machine and beast at the drums.
Then there is Troy, a multi instrumentalist from England who in older performances supported the band at some tracks but became luckily a full member of the band after this tour. He‘s a great singer as well.
Last but not least there is Floor, the Dutch singer. She is the bands third singer after Tarja (operatic) and Annett from Sweden (pop/rock). She can sing really everything from opera over pop/ rock to growls
This gig was at Wacken. Wacken is THE metal festival worldwide. Nightwish were one of the headliners in 2013.
It is in the north of Germany in a rural area. Therefore the bullhead with flames is the Wacken symbol. There are more than 80.000 metalheads having a big party each year.
Here are some suggestions for your next stops:
-> There are only great songs from Wacken: „Story Time“ and "Ever Dream" are catchy in a very positive way. "Song of Myself" starts catchy and ends with everyone headbanging. "Romanticide", "Last Ride of the Day" and "Ghostriver" are the heavier ones.
-> "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (Buenos Aires) will give you a metal and power blast: Maximum speed and Marco (the singing bass player) becomes Hannibal Lecter ;-)
-> "Yours an Empty Hope" from Wembley (have a good look!! at the growls. You'll be surprised.)
-> „Dead Boys Poem“ from Buenos Aires (so amazing and emotional)
-> „Weak Fantasy“ (Tampere): Kai the beastat the drums, Troy joins in, great duets with Floor and Marco, …
-> Elvenjig / Elvenpath (Buenos Aires): Awesome intro and it continues on that level
-> "The greatest Show on Earth" (Tampere) is one of the two most epic songs. The title is not about the gig, but about the topic of the song: The evolution of mankind.
-> "The Poet and the Pendulum“ (Wembley) is my personal absolute masterpiece of Nightwish. Be sure to know the background of this song ahead (short version see below *)

From the new album there are for obvious reasons no live sessions so far. For all songs there are lyric videos, except for „Noise". But maybe you'll give some songs a try as well. It's an awesome album. Definitely not an "easy" one with a lot of really unique songs, different from what is "typical" for Nightwish. Floor said that she was really challenged to sing the songs that Tuomas wrote for her. Knowing her abilities, you can imagine that they are "special“. It‘s a good idea to hear the album in the given order, but nevertheless here are some of my options to some of the songs.
-->"Noise" is probably the most "typical" song and the only one with "real video". The video is great as the song itself
--> "Tribal" is the heaviest one and Kai, the drummer, had to change his normal setup to be able to play it.
--> "Shoemaker" (about Eugene Shoemaker) is such a heavenly and epic song with the possible epic ending.
-> „Pan“ is just an amazing ride. When it starts you for a moment think you‘re listening to Floors husbands band „Sabaton“. In the song you‘ll be reminded to „Tribal“ and „Noise“.
-> Procession“ a rather calm song with so amazing vocals by Floor
--> "Harvest" is so different with Troy singing, that you will wonder if you're listening to Nightwish.
-> „Endlessness“ is Marcos song and shows his great voice.
--> "Music", „How's the Heart", ... are really cool songs as well. Of course.
The album challenged Floor as singer, which is not easy to do, as she is one of the best and most versatile singers in the world.

Beste Zangers Just in case (which I can really recommend) you're going to do "Beste Zangers" make sure you take the clips posted by "jenniezelf" on RUclips as she has also included the talking / interviews before and after with english subtitles. The concept of the show is, that on one day all singers sing a song for one of them.
It's a song that is by that singer or a song that means a lot for him / her. So it is very interesting to get to know the story behind each song. And it will help to understand the reactions of the other singers. Floor is singing there in German, Dutch, Spanis and English. Her "Phanom of the Opera" duet with Henk Poort is legendary.

* Backstory for „Poet and the Pendulum“
Tuomas (the keyboarder and songwriter) was in depression after the split from their first singer Tarja. He was in the position to either commit suicide in real real life or to write a song about it and die within that song. Luckily he choose the latter option. He is the poet, "killed" by the pendulum. And afterwards there is darkness, silence and just a fading heartbeat. It gives me a shiver every time.
As this song is so emotional for him all the others have an eye on him. He even had his the vocals turned off in his in ears.
One detail showing the ingenuity of Tuoams: Exactly three minutes after the words "Now I have only three minutes and counting" he is "killed" by the pendulum. And then everything becomes dark and there is just this fading heartbeat of the dying poet.

From what I have heard, her husband/manager was (from the bands point of view) the core of the problem. There is one song addressing him: "Master Passion Greed"
They never played it live and will never do so. It is maybe their heaviest song, but for sure the most angry one. You should definitely listen to it.

Hello CudaHitz, the name of that fabulous leadsinger is Floor Jansen. She is Dutch but lives nowadays in Sweden together with her husband (drummer of Sabaton) and daughter. And Nightwish is a rather famous Finnish band. Floor has various of nicknames such as Valkyrie and Goddess. And the songtitle can be changed in Ghost Love FLOOR.
