To be clear, yes i am talking about the singer who replaced Tarja (Anette).
Then i think you will get a new revival when you start listening to Floor Jansen in Nightwish... Tarja is good ..but Floor ...you have to see for yourself.
O and for this drummer. May i suggest some Wintersun drumcams....the song "Sons of winter & starts" preferably.
Weak Fantasy was written *after* Anette was replaced by Floor Jansen. The female vocalist you can hear in this video is the Valkyrie soprano herself, not Annette. Annette's two albums are Imaginarium and Dark Passion Play. Floor took over with Endless Forms Most Beautiful, and her first concert appearance was at Wacken 2013.
Let's just say that during the Endless Forms Most Beautiful tour, Nightwish opted to bring Stargazers back to the setlist, it was gone throughout the Annette years, but Floor kills it. I'd recommend giving it a listen so there is something familiar to work from.

No one remembers Anette. Current singer is, of course, Floor. And she is stellar. Of course, Tarja is a full blown Opera singer, which Floor is not. So, there are some Tarja tunes that she makes better than Floor. One example is Stargasers. But Tarja would never be able to sing most of the modern Floor songs. When it comes to "Ghost love score" I prefer Floor, but some prefer Tarja.
Legend has it, metronome companies use Kai to calibrate their metronomes....

He just smiles and plays, doesn't care about pyros and smokes. True professional and a joy to watch.
I wouldn't be surprised if he actually like some of the pyros. Cryo-shots are very cold and maybe it helps to cool him down a bit.
You should check Kai's Wintersun materials, there are (few) moments when smile changes to pain. 😄
I suspect you have heard Anette singing with Nightwish, she replaced Tarja and was very different in vocal style. The band now has a vocalist by the name of Floor Jansen who is in most peoples opinions as good as if not better than Tarja. If you haven't heard her before I highly recommended you give her a shot, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.👍
Tons of NW fans lost interest after Tarja left and have been lured back after hearing Floor sing...she really is something quite special.

Kai Hahto is not the Nightwish's original drummer. He replaced Jukka Nevalainen in about 2014 - 2015 (officially much later) due to Jukka's health problems. But anyway, he's Jukka's old friend and a very respected drummer and drumming teacher in Finland. You might receive tons of requests considering his former band "Wintersun". And yes, their songs are very hard to play, but for me they are inferior to Nightwish as a coherent music, but worked well as a technical presentation. And for the record: Floor is my queen forever!💗👸😜 Thank you and greetings from Finland! 😎👍

Missing on good music bro if ur not listening to Floor, if you even know they have 3rd singer with full soprano 4+ octave voice and multiple singing styles, just mentioning this because of reference about operatic vocals since i ran into a few people that still thinks Annette is still singing for Nightwish 🤔😅

To answer your question regarding left foot high hat. He uses his left heel. I've a drum clinic with him. It's outrageous!
Kai has a ton of drum cam vids on YT. Kai also is trained in jazz a and lived in NYC for a while. In his free time he plays jazz. He teaches at a Uni.

Hi Jason. I believe that when you are talking about the new singer that you are actually talking about Anette Olson who replaced Tarja. However, Anette was fired during the middle of the Nightwish 2012 world tour and replaced by our 6' 1" Valkyrie Goddess, Floor Jansen who has been the Nightwish lead singer since that time. Floor is an incredible vocal talent and her stage presence is unbelievable. That said... getting back to your drum reaction, I loved it. Kai Hahto has been amazing ever since he took over from Jukka (due to insomnia reasons). Thanks for this.

😱 Im the total opposite... I didnt got much into nighwish in the 90s and 00s, because Tarjas singing bored me. So I lost track of Nightwish until redescovered them with Floor and was amazed.

Kai was already fully trained when hired to Nightwish.
He was for example in Wintersun before NW, and compared to Wintersun Nightwish is soft and simple mainstream music.
He uses his left heel for the HH and bass at the same time.
Your right he does open the hi hat with hist left as he plays dbl pedals. You can see it in the stargazers drum cam. He also uses both high hats alternating in fast parts to show off. What a jerk lo….I meant GOD. Lol
To work the hi-hat while playing double kick, Kai uses his left foot heel. For a good video, there is already a comment by stimbeh below with a recommendation.

How can they isolate the sound from drums so clearly from the rest of the music?
Normally due to the size of the stages, most of the other musicians will all be running through isolated cabinets hidden offstage and running in ear monitors. Which keeps the feedback from stage down to a bare minimum.

Strange listening to a reaction to Nightwish without hearing Floor ( Greatest singer I have ever heard in my 68 years). However I is fantastic to get a real drummer reaction to the drumming. You might want to check out the original drummer as well ( Jukka). Not better nor worse, but still absolutely awesome.

Your mistake off the top about Nightwish's singers is that Floor isn't trying to "cover" Tarja doing operatic vocals. Floor is doing her own thing and doing things Tarja could never do. Whether or not you like it is irrelevant. I grow ever so tired of nothing but operatic vocals after about one whole song, while Floor possesses so many colors and vocal approaches. But that's just me. Neither of it has anything to do with a drum analysis video.
You are entitled to your taste in music. But... try again to listen to Floor with an open mind. There is no "better" with these two. Just maybe more versatile. You can't be total opera or total anything if you are versatile enough to everything Nightwish does. Let me know what you think.

Since you seem to find fault with a professional drummer that travels the world, I guess that means you've taught professionals around the world...no? Teaching 5th graders doesn't make you a drum coach. At least not at this level!
You don't have to be better to be able to find a fault. He has a slight delay, that's perfect, it's what makes humans superior to robots. It sounds natural. There is actually scientific research about drum beats player perfectly by a computer and played with slight delays and imperfections. People prefer the imperfections.

Tarja wouldn't be able to sing this, She has too deep of an accent and too strong vibrato, It wouldn't sound right... Enter Floor, who CAN sing it all including the growls Marko did when Tarja was in the band... Why don't people compare the two different drummers or the three different bass guitarists?
