- This is my first time hearing Nightwish Storytime and, again, I am at a loss for words! Love this band. Love their music. Love the mix of metal and opera and symphonic elements. This is perfection.

you know, that is perhaps my least favorite NW song. For some reason the spoken parts throw me off a little, which is insane, as they're integral to the song. Still, saying something is my least favorite when it comes to this band sure means I still listen to it when it comes on haha

When "they guy points at the crowd" -- that's Emppu. He's warning "incoming" because he's about to throw his guitar pick to someone. He keeps a bunch of them on the neck of his guitar and throws them one at a time into the audience during performances. Backstage before every event he signs several dozen of them and replenishes his stock between songs.
Which is probably one of the most awesome things I've ever heard of a band doing.

You literally should just do the entire waken set list. Every song is different, awesome, and magical.
Song of myself, Romanticide, Everdream are some if my favorites but there are too many favs to mention lol.

@@cudahitz Wacken 2013 was probably the most epic concert they have ever done, every song pitch perfect. 82,000 people attending. Floor had been the official singer for only months and holy shit did she deliver here.

For everything in between, do any other Nightwish song! 😅😁
Also if you wanna hear her sing something totally different, check out dutch tv show beste zangers. Different dutch singers sing each other's songs or songs which are for some reason meaningful for them. It's not a competition in any way, just nice people having a good time. Totally worth checking out!
Look for Floor's songs "Shallow" (yep, THAT "Shallow"!), "Winner" and "Que se siente".

From Wacken 2013 I recommend you react to one of the heavier Nightwish songs.
"Ghost River", "Song of Myself" or "Romanticide", in fact I would save Romanticide for a little bit later, but that's just me. It's a good one. In each one of those three mentioned Floor and Marko, (Flarko), are doing the vocals together. They complement each other amazingly.

The Poet is not to be done until you have done 10 or so songs from Nightwish. You need to know the band first. The Poet is a very complicated song that you need to know the backstory to fully appreciate it.

You are correct. Except for the operatic part , this was a more straight forward type of song structure. If you like the longer more complex songs, check out "Song of Myself" live from Wacken 2013. Peace out!
And yet, only Nightwish can make a simple song structure sound so amazing and fresh!

Nightwish has the two greatest vocalists of all time. Floor Jansen and the bass player, Marco Hietala. Romanticide should be your next song by them so witness this.

If you want to see more of the harder side of Nightwish, I'd recommend Song of Myself, Yours is an Empty Hope, and Romanticide--all of which feature more of Marko's very talented vocals as well. Musically speaking, Song of Myself (also from Wacken) is one of my top three Nightwish songs period, but if you want to see what Floor can really do with harsh vocals, Yours is an Empty Hope (live at Wembley) probably ought to be your next stop on the Nightwish journey.
You have a long beautiful journey ahead of you. Many of us will accompany you, because that's what we do around here.
You asked for a favorite song. I can't pick one. Só much different songs, different atmospheres, different sounds, different emotions. The present line-up is a match made in heaven. And they're having so much fun together, making this wonderful music.
The new album is special, but I think it's better to do some more 'old' songs beforehand. Many suggestions from others here. Ok, mine: Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, live from Buenos Aires 2018.

Storytime is definitely one of my favorite Nightwish songs because of the extremely catchy melodies. I'm not sure if The Greatest Show on Earth can be called a song, but that one would be my favorite if I had to pick only a single one.
As far as the reaction goes, it's always fun to hear people gushing over the band.

Whatever you like, Floor has it and more. Nightwish has become part of my daily routine these days. I can't help it. If I was asked the question: What Nightwish songs do you like.
My answer: Yes
Yep. That's the Valkyrie Goddess. You want epic? You want a story? Then you want "Greatest Show on Earth" live from Tampere. Just be sure to watch it until the end. It just doesn't get any more epic. Also, check out "How's the Heart" acoustic version. You'll be blown away by the purity of Floor's voice. One of (if not THE) most beautiful things I have ever heard. And I can't believe I'm here before Gabriel is.

My favorite songs out of almost all songs ( I love 95% of their music) are; Edema Ruh, Tribal, Endlesness, Greatest show on earth, ghost river..... best are the live versions, but not available yet for Tribal and Endlessnes because they haven`t been played live yet. Excellent reaction! As previously mentioned, you really should just start with the Wacken 2013 show opener, "Dark Chest of Wonders" and then work your way through the entire 90-ish minutes of their set. The full concert is available on RUclips in HD and it is nothing short of a masterpiece. Every song will blow you away. Then, when you are done with Wacken you should react to "Greatest Show on Earth" from Tempere. Then "Poet and the Pendulum" from Wembley.

Floor is truly a special talent. To appreciate the versatility of her voice check out her performances on the Dutch tv show Beste Zangers. It is astonishing how well she can sing in all types of genres and multiple languages! I recommend searching RUclips for "jenniezelf" . This person has put subtitles in English for the before and after chat (they all speak Dutch) It adds so much context to the performance! Enjoy!

A great reaction! All I can say is you have only barely scratched the surface of Nightwish & Floor Jansen. This lady is a godess of song. She can literally sing anything from high soprano operatic vocals to hardcore metal growls and everything in between AND all in the same song LOL You may have already heard this but Nightwish did have two other vocalists before Floor. Both ladies, Tarja and Anette, are also very accomplished vocalists in their own right. I love all three but Floor just happens to be my favourite as I find her the most entertaining to listen to. Anyway, your Nightwish journey has only just begun and I look forward to being along for the ride!

If you enjoy the operatic side of this and want more old school Nightwish, watch the performance of "Stargazers" at Tampere. "Romanticide" and "Song of Myself" as several people said are a must. But one of their most moving and emotional performances was "The Poet and the Pendulum" at Wembley. I think you'll enjoy all of them.

Floor can sing EVERYTHING! For a Dutch tv show she sang in her own native language (Dutch) and in German and Spanish. She sang in Finnish. She can sing pop, opera, metal ... no biggie. She's classically trained and is also a vocal coach.

Great reaction man! I love that you are engaged in the song the whole time and still find spots to give your own reflections without it being disruptive or breaking the flow. I think it's safe to assume you're a fan by now so... welcome to the Nightwish army! ;-) Nightwish is a deep rabbit hole to fall into but it is a very enjoyable tumble. A couple of recommendations going forward would be Ever Dream and Romanticide from the same concert of Wacken 2013. However, with Nightwish you really can't go wrong so take you pick. A general advice would be to go for live performances whenever available: they know how to bring it and they always shine on stage; Wacken 2013 is a favorit by many and I think it is in large part to the sound mixing that is impeccable, but also (personal theory) this was the first concert after Floor had been offered a permanent spot in the band (though it wasn't announced until later) together with the multi instrumentalist Troy and I personally think that's why their normal energy level of 10 is ramped up to 11. And 82.000 people in the crowd didn't hurt the energy either... Anyway, I'm looking forward to following your Nightwish journey.

#Nightwisharmy Swedish Lapland Division reporting for duty! Welcome to the show that is Nightwish! Glad to see another fella falling down the rabbithole. You have so much to experience, and i'm alittle jealous tbh. I've been a fan since their first album was released, and i've never been more in love with the band than now. Floor, to me, just adds a whole different level to the ballgame.
If i were to set your playlist up, i'd have you do the entire Wacken show first, just to get up to date so to speak. After that, read the entire backstory before going on to "Poet and the pendulum" (i can send you a complete backstory if you so wish) to get it's full meaning. "Greatest show on earth" is another absolutely amazing piece, though i'd probably save it for later. "Dead boys poem" is.. amazing. "Yours is an empty hope" and "Shudder before the beautiful" should be up on that playlist aswell.. Hope you enjoy!

Excellent job! Floor can sing ANYTHING. Also, Marko...the bass player...is a great singer, too, as you’ll find as you watch more videos. From the same Wacken 2013 show I recommend Song of Myself, Romanticide and Everdream.

Yep, this is properly schooled voice at work. While studying at the Rock Academy (she was part of the first class that graduated) she felt she didn’t get the vocal tutoring she wanted so she sought ought a tutor from the classical conservatory and studied with him for a years as well while at the Rock Academy.
Time to expand your horizons a bit, I would recommend a live version of Kamelot featuring Simmone Simmons "The Haunting"
I'd also recommend Kamelot featuring Alyssa White-Gluz "Wasteland Monarchy" and Kamelot featuring Lauren Hart "Phantom Divine"

I hope you can take us on a journey with Nightwish. Your next song to listen to should be either "Romanticide" or "Yours is an empty hope". You seem to like some growls in her voice, if you really want to hear her go full growling you should go for the latter live at Wembley Arena and pay extra attention during the chorus 😉. Also do not listen to "Poet and The Pendulum" yet, as for this song you need to have heard a few more before going into it and also some research beforehand as to understand everything that is going on during the performance. Also the same goes for "Greatest show on Earth" this also requires you to do some research beforehand and some more Nightwish knowledge before going into this 20 minute masterpiece.
