If I were me I'd do it (lol). The current expansions won't be available for a long time. It's the closest thing you'll get for now. On the other hand, it's good to know you like the game first before expanding.

Haha, Kingdom Death deserves its own channel. Words cannot describe my excitement.
I really like the look of this game but me personally can't justify paying the cost of it. I am not one for minatures which i am guessing is likely the main contributing factors to the price. But if they brought out a version which uses tokens to replace the minatures I would definitely go after this game and expansions. I know they are a minatures company so this has never crossed their minds but I think they could sell more copies of this at a cheaper and more affordable price and not affect profit margins etc.
I understand where you're coming from. This topic has actually been discussed at length before. From what I've heard, the KDM team did at one point attempt to sell several mini-less versions of the core game for $100 at GenCon but the overwhelming majority of people preferred to go for the full $400 mini version. Obviously, that's a biased sample of people, but since then there hasn't been much of an effort to attempt to sell mini-less cores again :(

Alternatively, it's rumored that one could sell the minis in order to recoup the costs of the game. I know people occasionally sell mini-less cores on ebay and such. Personally, as someone who hadn't had much experience for miniatures before KDM. This game made me love quality miniatures. It has been VERY worth it to me. Happy to answer any questions you may have if you need convincing xDDD

I am still to play a game where I have had to actually use minatures (main game I like currently is the Arkham Horror LCG so obviously just cards haha) so never felt the need for them. But understand these can really help some people enjoy games that little bit more. Never go to any game conventions so this is not something I will have seen but would be definitely tempted after watching some of the playthroughs (from the UK so never heard of many board game conventions).
I will have to keep an eye out for mini-less versions but don't think many get bought from within the UK.
Yeah, I'm not much for conventions either. When it comes to this game your patience will reward you. Keep an eye out after the 1.6 reprint for abandoned copies (which may be as soon as next year) or hop onto the insane pre-order system (and also wait until next-yearish). Best of luck!

I'm sure most of the stuff will still be up for sale during Black Friday 2021... or even 2022... or maybe 2077..
