Wonderful tutorial. I have been drawing animals for many years, but not digitally. I have been struggling with getting started. Your tips and brushes were the trick.
Hi Tatiana. Just started drawing again after many years. First time ever with Procreate (about three weeks now). Loved your puppy. Your brushes work extremely well. I have started following you and look forward to many more hours together making beautiful paintings. Thank you.
Thank you Martin 😊 I would be happy to see your versions of these drawings on Facebook or Instagram 🤗 This puppy tutorial is the most advanced I made for RUclips so far, there are more tutorials of different levels, I hope you will find something that you like among them. Feel free to ask questions if you have any 😊
@@Tatyworks Thanks for the reply. I haven't quite figured out how to do that yet (sharing) I'd love your input on my painting. You are very talented and I am really enjoying this Procreate journey. I plan to watch all of your tutorials to improve my skills. I'm hoping to paint my miniature daschund from scratch at some point. Practice, practice, practice.
Taty you are truly an incredibly talented artist. You have the rare ability to clearly communicate your techniques and make them accessible to those new to Procreate artistry. Many thanks for sharing your techniques, and brushes which no doubt, took you countless hours to develop and refine. Since I lost Jackson, my beloved companion, and champion standard poodle, there has been an inconsolable feeling of loss and sadness in my heart. Now, due to your love, vision and understanding of dogs, you have set the path and provided the illumination essential for me to paint my cherished friend, and allow me to once again, feel the happiness we once shared together. I am SO grateful to you for this opportunity.
Bonnie, I am so sorry for your loss. It is really so nice of you to write such a positive and sweet comment. Thank you for that. I'm so glad my videos are helpful ❤️
Best video tutorial I have seen! Amazing how you shared your brushes with us so we can slowly follow your steps as we are watching and thank you so much for that! I’m drawing for 6hours so far and still not finished but without you I could never draw this good by myself. I’m so excited for all your future videos 😁 Could you show us how to draw short haired dogs and cats? Lot’s of love! 💙💙
Thank you so much for your sweet comment Korina 🥰 I think drawing short haired dogs and cats might be even easier. You can pick colors from the photo and add them on the sketch with medium hard airbrush. Then blend all colors carefully using soft airbrush. The more colors you apply, the more accurate it will look. After that you can add some fur slightly. It’s optional. I will consider making another animal tutorial in the future. A short haired one 😊
I made it Taty! I love it. It came out perfect and your brushes are perfect and easily understandable. Thank you!!!!!! Took about 9 hours but I thoroughly understand what to do now. : )
This is an amazing and complete tutorial on how to create a realistic drawing of a puppy. Thank you very much for this information and the wonderful brushes. This is now my go to fur brushes.
Just found your channel and enjoying your tutorials - thank you for the free brushes to use as I follow along as I live on a limited income. I will be binge watching but my first one is going to be this pet one. Once I learn this technique I can do a portrait of my dog and cat - just awesome. Again, thank you so much! I had to come back and edit to add that I was blown away by your brushes and the realistic effect they create.
Can’t thank you enough for this in depth tutorial on how to paint a realistic animal portrait! It’s just the right one to gain the confidence to try it out for the first time, bless you Taty!🥰🙏✨ The white fur surprise in the video is also cute!🤗
It is so flattering when professional and unique artists like you follow my tutorials 😃 Your feedback matters a lot to me, it means I am moving in the right direction. Thanks for your kind and encouraging comment ♥️♥️♥️
@@Tatyworks border collies are tricky because they have straight standing ears, down ears or flop ears, can have half folded ears or any combination of the above. They also come in a crazy amount of colors. We have 2 female sport border collies (sport are thinner and not as fluffy as show borders) and one is the standard black and white with standing ears and our other is a Brown tri-color with standing ears unless she's tired and her one ear folds down. We say it's her battery indicator haha
Tatiana, how do you approach painting a relatively monotonous coloured dog, like my kockapoo is all peachy colour, any tips on how to create a depth and a contrast there? Please
Great tutorial that’s easy to follow because of such detailed instructions. I got great results from following along. I would love you to do a realistic short haired tabby cat. I’m having trouble creating the fur for my cat. Thanks for all your hard work!

Alright, first make sure you apply this brush on a separate layer above the main layer with the puppy. Second, you need to set the layer with this texture to overlay (not the puppy layer). And the color of the old skin texture brush is light (milky). If you do everything according to this algorithm and it still doesn’t work, you can email me your drawing as a Procreate file (with all layers). Or a screenshot of your canvas with layers open. So I can see what’s going on there and I will try to help you. My email is tanya@tatyworks.com
Add your reference image as a layer to your canvas. And then, create a new layer to do the outline. They need to be separate layers. When you are finished with sketching, you can then remove the reference image layer. And you now have a sketch.
This was a fabulous tutorial! I followed along and painted a beautiful picture of my son's cockapoo. Thank you!

Do you mean that “old skin” texture from touchups?
@@Tatyworks yeah, I did use the brush but when I put the “overlay” blend mode, it was all black instead of looking like yours :(
Alright, first make sure you apply this brush on a separate layer above the main layer with the puppy.
@@Tatyworks okay, thank you smmm 🥺
Quick question: if you are outlining a photo, how do you then remove the picture leaving just the lines you draw? Thank you x
Add your reference image as a layer to your canvas. And then, create a new layer to do the outline. They need to be separate layers. When you are finished with sketching, you can then remove the reference image layer. And you now have a sketch.
@@Tatyworks got it! Thank you very much, I really appreciate it 😊 also, the brushes you created are amazing for fur! It is a must have
Do you ever make brushes for Affinity
Unfortunately no.
I want to know the brush you used, could you tell me?
I used my own brushes. You can download the set for free in the description to the video
