  • No matter where you live, things will not be all sunshine and roses 100% of the time. Even though I love Korea and there were so many things I loved about living there, there were also some things that weren't particularly pleasant about living there, too.

I remember in one of your older videos you said you used to watch a lot of Korean dramas. My high school had an exchange student from Thailand who grew up watching American dramas and Hollywood romances. She fell in love with our culture and felt destined to visit to experience it all for herself. She worked hard to learn our customs and to speak fluent English. She worked hard to get here.
Of course, she soon discovered Americans aren't all glamorous and attractive. She saw the poverty. She was shocked and saddened by the rate of violent crime and the people living without homes. For the first time in her life she experienced racism.
She's still fascinated with US culture but she can see things more clearly now. Nowhere is perfect.
That moment when it hits you... that first realization that the place you thought you knew is actually much different must be jarring.
    Thanks for sharing!!

Yeah at first I didn't understand the mis-translation for allergy. I thought it was me but no matter what no one understood me.

Usually these types of videos that list things that are very obvious differences between asian and non-asian culture, but these differences are illuminating

Don't stand in line with headphones because with no personal bubble some people can pop up RIGHT behind you >.

Hi, don't feel too bad. This is exactly what 'Immigrants to the USA" feel the same way. No matter how good English is or born and raised, we are perceived as 'perpetual foreigners.'

I'm actually surprised about the dirty public spaces. Many videos, whether RUclipsrs or news reports, show public areas being clean. I figured they took cleanliness seriously like the Japanese. But now I'm wondering, if maybe the Japanese are the same way as the Koreans. 🤔

It's all relative. Because all those "negative points " are fine with me. Some I'm even glad to hear, like the strict prohibition of drugs and their components, for example. The only thing I feel bad about is the dirtiness because is bad for the environment and sad to see. But I'm from New York and even though there are trash cans everywhere, people choose no to use it. There are homeless and drug addicts people everywhere on the street, spitting is nothing compared to what they do there. Let's no forget the sky rocket criminal rate. Los Angels is the same (I lived there too) It's a problem in all big cities, I've seen it in Los Angels, Chicago and I have heard that Philadelphia is like that too. In New York there are Not respects for personal space whatsoever, either. But all and all. I'm a city gal and all big advanced cities have their charm. So readers, don't let this scare you. Is it Seoul the only city you ever lived in? Florida is lovely and doesn't compare with those big cities. I've live there too. It's a total different life style. What I'm trying to say is: I've seen worse, a lot worse. So see you in Seoul again soon 😉🥰
P .S. I'm an immigrant in America for 30 years . I'm a 44 years old Dominican with an American citizenship. I still have an accent and my appearance shows that I'm from the tropics. I don't see why would I want to be called American if I'm not. As long as I am treated with respect and dignity what is wrong with being considered a foreigner if that's what you are? Embrace it, it's quite nice and have their advantages too 😉

I highly disagree with several of the comments.
As There are several cons of living in Korea compared to Europe or the States the observations are very shallow, restricted marijuana…and dirty public spaces is just not true.
Would have been better spent time in Korea to try to understand the culture than try to project a western mindset.
Disappoint I thought the observations would be about the real problems such as stress, in equality, economic gaps and prostitution.
