Enjoyed the video I enjoy watching you Expand your mind .Black Sabbath is always great, but in order you have killed them. All come, ride the lightning, master of pups and justice for all, and garage days Re ReVisited. And so on... And you don't have to listen to them in order.....But you will see how they evolved over the years.... It's all about searching seeking and destroy

The first Metallica album I bought because it was as close to a “best of” as I had never heard any of their albums before having just found them on Kerrang. Listened to it in the car and was asked not to play it while I was in the office car park as I was disturbing all the other companies. Bought “lightning” next and went on from there. I was 54 then and went to see them at Wembley for the Sick of the Studio tour. Three gigs at 02 followed. My brother asked why I couldn’t stick to MotR music like other middle aged women. I told him I felt I’d come home.

One thing to remember is that this album came out in the era or vinyl and cassettes, so the album is laid out in a side a / side b format. Battery starts side A, and ends with Sanitarium, which is a bit like the first act of a play. Side B is then laid out in a bit of a mirror image of side A to bring the album full circle and set you up for a re-listen on side A. So side B comes back in with Disposable Heroes and Leper Messiah. Orion sits opposite of Master of Puppets (both with big melodic bridges), and then ends up back at Damage, Inc which very much matches the energy and feel of Battery... which just so happens to be the first song back on Side A. This whole album is such a masterpiece in its entirety. It truly is timeless.
By the way, I don't know if you knew this, but the anniversary of the bus accident that took Cliff from us is next week (Sept 27th). Can't believe it's been 38 years. 😢

The part that gave you chills in Orion at the 57:21 is Cliff Burton on the bass. The song actually rolled in on volume swells with Cliff's bass. Later during the slower guitar solos, Cliff joins in again with another solo on his bass finish the waltz part he laid down on the bass. That whole slow section restarting on the bass was the actual inspiration for the whole song. Metallica was never the same when Cliff died. They did good stuff later, but the best Metallica is Master of Puppets. Cliff was the secret sauce of Metallica. BTY, Cliff opens with bass volume swells on Damage, Inc.

Something often slept on about Metallica in general, is James ability to write some of the most chilling, eye opening, inspiring lyrics. You should react to Inomorata sometime and pay attention to the words and how the song is written. Metallica songs are 4 dimensional. If you notice that solo, the lyrics reflect the song. The drugs have you. Then the beautiful bridge, recovery, back to the verse, relapse. Every song is like this in different way. The maestros of music itself
    * I’m talking about master of puppet’s song structure btw*

Thanks for doing this video. Seeing you react to the album that changed my life and hearing that it has changed you too really got me. Cliff Burton was the bassist for Master of Puppets, and good ear on that being the bass on Orion. Cliff was one of a kind, and we can only wonder what might have been had he not died in the bus crash. Love and respect for Jason and later Robert, but truly replacing Cliff was not possible. I plan on Orion playing on close circuit when they cart me off to the cemetery and bury my ass. Master of Puppets is and always will be my favorite album. It's the guys 3rd album, but it was my first time hearing Metallica. They didn't play Thrash metal on the radio in 80's, especially not in small Midwest towns. I was disobeying my parents by listening to what metal I could find. Then I saw a T-shirt with a hammer and a pool of blood " Kill'em All " Metallica. That weekend I got a ride to the record store in a nearby city. An underground basement kind of place. I found Metallica cassettes, but only had enough money for 1. There was something about that field of crosses on the cover that said this is the one. There wasn't a car stereo, so I had to wait until I got home and got out my Walkman, completely unprepared for what I was about to hear. I clicked play, and Battery, and that was it. I was different. I wore that tape out, and in the coming weeks bought everything Metallica I could find, Kill'em All, Ride the Lightening , those were great times. I have dragged on for long enough, but one last tidbit, that whisper "Damage Incorporated", thats Cliff Burton, not James. Cool, eh?

There are very few 10/10 albums, but this is definitely one of them. This was Cliff's last album, he died a few months after this was released. The whispers on Damage Inc. are Cliff, and it's such an emotional component of the song and the album given his death. If you get a chance, check out any of their live performances of Orion and you can see who is performing which part of the song. Great video, Declan! Looking forward to the next album breakdown. Believe by Disturbed just had its 22nd birthday, and it's also a great album from a great American heavy metal band.

I think it's really tough to argue that this is anything but a perfect album. Every single song is incredible and the order and pacing of the album is just unreal. IMO this is Metallica's best album and is the best metal album of all time at least that I've heard of.

Super video Mollyboy. So glad you went all out full album on this, when you listen to it like that you get to hear all the different styles that Metallica can bring in one album, beautiful melodies, solos, thrash, heck even some grungy down tuned songs and riffs, and this was all done a long time ago. You listen to James's lyrics, nobody was writing...no hang on...nobody IS writing lyrics like that now, and bands would kill to have songs that sound like that now. Nice to see emotion from you mate, that's what great music does to you, it's done it for me plenty of times. Keep up the great videos!

This was just pure awesomeness, the way you show your emotions for songs is amazing and I really hope you keep doing that! You should do more of these like for Ride the lightning or And justice for all, I really enjoyed the video thank you so much for these great videos🤘🤘

❤️❤️❤️ I just saw Metallica live for the first time a month ago. Fucking UNBELIEVABLE!!! If you get the chance you have to. It was so fucking loud and the crowd was so loud. I brought my 16 year old daughter. It was fucking emotional for me! When they played Master of Puppets….i can’t even EXPLAIN how that felt. Or Harvester of Sorrow and Blackened….i was listening to those songs when i was 13. It was pretty amazing to hear them live with my daughter and 70,000 other people. ❤️❤️❤️ They also played Orion, beautiful!

You are not the only one who gets emotional or chills with these tunes. It is hard to describe, it just gets you so hyped up, it can be really emotional... but also the juxtaposition of the soft sections and melodies can get you sometimes too, like the melodic/solo section in Master of Puppets. I'm a guitarist myself and love this stuff and get emotional or chills from music in general, including really heavy stuff. Regarding thrash metal though there is still a lot of really great stuff out there along the lines of Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer etc. Also IMO some really great speed metal and power metal too, with brilliant musicianship. I find those three genre of metal - thrash, speed and power, have a lot of bands that tend to blur the lines between each other.

Grew up on this album when I was younger than you are now, and it's one of the best albums ever. The production on it is BRILLIANT (especially in light of what they did to Justice). But your reaction to it was powerful sir. Music can move us to places we never thought we'd go. Rock on!

I was 14 at the end of the school year and this little stoner chick brought in this album and played Disposable Heroes in art class... I was enthralled... Was into hip hop, pop, r&b etc. before that, but this was life changing. They weren't on any mainstream stations or MTV yet, so most had never heard anything like thrash. Amazing time!
Cliff died on tour for this album and yes, that is his bass you hear at the beginning of Orion.

This was my first introduction to metal as well, I still remember it well. 1985 15yrs old. I listened to it over and over and over on cassette tape, and it still has not gotten old. Yeah, it's definitely in the top of the greatest albums ever.
