I think it might have to do w a difference in upbringing. Americans seem to have filters that certain other countries don't have. My Black friend lives and works n China. She loves it there but frequently she is asked, 'Why r u so fat?' She doesn't consider herself "fat" but because many of them are small she appears huge to them. She doesn't like having to explain her size mostly... sometimes there r questions about skin color...sometimes there is surprise hair touching..

And when a foreigner has interactions with blacks who meets the media’s stereotypes, they’ll genuinely think all of us are like that. It’s sad. Us blacks just have to prove to them that we can be something outside of those negative generalizations.

So i heard Thailand was opening and i was in my cucible in D.C. and decided meh why not. i was tired of the cucible lifestyle and applied for the job, did the interview right at my desk and within a month i was gone. I wanted to 1) do a different aspect of my job which i would never got being back home.
      2) live in Asia
      3) save money 💰
I feel whenever you move overseas you have 2 set up some goals u want to accomplish. or else you’ll become stagnant and stuck and when it’s time to go home now you broke and never set aside time to accomplish what u wanted to do. Yes Felicia! My fellow Torontonian! ❤️🇨🇦
I have never been to Asia, but I’ve travelled to Scandinavian countries that are largely homogeneous as well. They are mostly fascinated you (but do so in silence), or they will ignore you out of fear/prejudice, so I relate to her in that sense.

@Flower8 Where are you from if you don't mind me asking? I think if you're a person of colour you will encounter prejudice of some kind no matter where you are. It's sad, yet inevitable. But you shouldn't let that stop you from seeing the world because not everyone is ignorant.

I think you'll find the correct response to that is: I don't know. Why is your face so ugly?

    • @bannanamae253
      @bannanamae253 4 года назад +8

@Black To Grace This is so incorrect. We have two different types of skin on our bodies. Thin and thick. Thick skin can be found on our palms and feet. Thick skin has an extra layer of skin. But this extra layer it also translucent. Black or White we still have melanin on our palms and feet. Or every where for that matter. African American seem to overlook sunscreen, we are most like to get cancer on our palms and feet. The parts of our body we expose most to the sun.

I really like her energy. In South Korea, where people are not really friendly to foreigners and can even be mean, you can get very jaded in Korea. She has surprisingly maintained a lot of that positivity unlike my friends who have mostly left Korea with very negative assessments of the locals despite 4-5years there.

Thank you for these interviews. I've definitely felt more positive reactions from older people here, not that I've had many negative experiences here. Living in Korea has been complicated (but I imagine it'd be the same anywhere else, especially in a homogenous society), but the overall experience has been positive.

Lol being black in italy i can totally relate to a lot of this things, I went for a wax at an Italian spa nd all the women stared at me so much nd some asked me about my braids and even touched it, I'm very welcoming naturally so I just let them but my friends will always tell me to not let them touch my hair, again when they stared at me on the street I just smile at them and I've been to South korea nd I love it

I was only in Seoul for a week, so I'm sure people who are there longer have experience a lot more. I had my hair braided in a black and blue bob when I went. I knew I was going to get stares for multiple reasons, but I'm used to that since I wear J-Fashion.
I got lots of stares, and there was only one time that I had someone move away from me and my friends on the train. Mostly, I got lots of compliments on my hair while we were sight-seeing, and no one touched my hair without my permission -- that surprised me the most, because my white coworkers try to touch my hair at work all the time, -_-

Clickbait titles are not the best way to get and keep viewers. The video, while interesting, doesn't address her issues with Korean men until the last 2 minutes. Viewers coming for that specific topic will be pretty annoyed and not only not subscribe but tell their friends not to either. First rule of business. A satisfied customer will only tell 10 people but an unhappy customer will tell 100 people. Just some food for thought.

As far as air quality, I was in Korea in July last year...I traveled all over the place: multiple provinces: GapYeong, Nami Island, Chuncheon...Jeonju...
The air never approached the level of pollution I experience daily in NYC.
And it was nowhere NEAR as bad as the air in Shanghai.
