    "I've gotten to a point in life where I enjoy being me. I've always been a pretty confident person, outgoing, happy - but I think I"m at a point where I'm always ok with me, regardless of who's around or what spaces I'm in. [...] So yeah, right now my proudest accomplishment is being happy to be who I am!"
    Sis (calling you that because I get "cool older sister'-vibes from you), it felt like you spoke to my soul. I'm 26 and still looking for what I wanna do and who I wanna be, also really having doubts about entering my pre-designed career path as I'm slowly finishing my master's. I felt it when you said those words. I want to see the world. I wanna live freely. I wanna be a little more selfish, because I really have not been that, like, ever, and I love to please people, but I also don't wanna be one of those people who are really unhappy with how their life went at the end because they always put other's needs and opinions first. I wanna have the knowledge that I at least tried different things to the best of my abilities, that I wasn't too scared or too lazy to take a chance and see where it takes me. You're an inspiration!

  • @buttarain27
    @buttarain27 5 лет назад +27

    I'm 10 years older than the interviewee and I lived in Korea over 7 years, like her, I am curly-haired, heavy and lightly tanned (about the same complexion as a tanned Korean, I'm bi-racial) and I was/am the COMPLETE opposite from her, I had ZERO confidence, no friends, had a toxic narcissistic Korean male "friend". There were some good times, mostly revolved around my job, but outside of my school environment it was very rough, not anything to do with cultural aspects because I researched, understood and knew about deep Korean culture but every negative moment was intensified by my "friend" who would go out of his way to make me feel the effects of it to the fullest, exaggerate it, belittle me, put me down and even make jokes in front of other Koreans. I wish I would have went to Korea with a strong confidence level and the ability to see the red flags that were going off when I met him, I could've saved myself 7 years of emotional pain and toxicity. I'm still very disappointed in myself for all the time I wasted in that "friendship" and for all of the missed opportunities because of the way I felt about myself.

    She’s dope. I love all the open minded, free spirited brothers and sisters y’all have on here. I’m a law enforcement officer here in the states, and it gets depressing being in the guetto 24/7 because I get angry at young brothers and sisters for throwing their lives away for the bad choices they make no matter how much I try to mentor them. I swore an oath and I’ll always carry it, but man-hearing her lively personality and articulate accent is a breath of fresh air and gives me hope for young brothers and sisters as a whole.

      They feel hopeless about their futures and most didn't get raised in a healthy enviroment, but an unhealthy one. Where they as kids, had to adapt to toxic cicumstances.
      Then as adults, drugs become one way to survive inside a body that is filled with painful emotions and repressed trauma. Plus they are now equipped to deal with these types of enviroments which thrive on negative emotion.
      But it is not sustainable. Most dont find their way out. They don't want to face the pain.

      @Whitney Titus Meh, I boarded a plane the minute I could leave. Didn't have a job, but could stay with my dad. Had A job within a week. And moved out within two (I'm very independent). Lived broke and paid all my bills first so maintained excellent credit. Went to community college, then online for BS degree, then my employer for a masters. Stayed away from drugs. Not saying i never tried any, but I like being self aware so not my thing. Learned another language. Have owned two homes. Drive a 14 year old car. Have money in the bank. One regret, never traveled outside the states. I like these vids because they're living part of my life. But being married with kids you can't always do everything you want. Main thing blacks don't seem to be doing is building wealth and persistently pursuing education and new experiences outside their comfort zone.

    As a white woman, having lived in SK for 7 years and dated and married a Korean national for almost all of that time, EVERYTHING this young lady said is so true.~ I do have a lot more privilege in SK than my fellow colored foreigners, which is sad to me. Even my father-in-law rejected me as a white person dating his son for five years. I can’t imagine how hard it would be for a black person seriously dating a Korean. It’s so lovely to hear that Seoul seems to be leading change and hiring more black teachers, as the smaller cities I’ve lived in are still predominantly white when it comes to ESL/EFL teachers. I wish this wise and beautiful woman good luck in all her endeavors!!!

    I ended up subscribing to this channel because I love the interviews! First thing I noticed about her......infectious personality, beautiful smile.....overall just beautiful!!!. I liked the way she spoke, so down to earth, and honest. One thing about Korea, yes kids walk, and ride the bus by themselves, and know one ever bothers them. Can't do that here in the States. You'll end up on the news.

    I absolutely LOVED this video!! I applaud you for what you are doing as an "expat"... as a foreigner! Love you girl! Keep up the good work.
    I came upon this video because my daughter wants to visit Korea SO bad... because of KPop. But she also has gained an appreciation of the Korean culture. You gave some good stories and experiences in this.

    thank you for adding South Korea. Both South Korea and Japan are countries I would love to visit. Also, could you connect with someone living in Thailand.
    I love the interviewee. She reminds me of some of my friends from Miami. Definitely someone who would be part of my inner crew. I especially loved her response at the end. Prayerfully, I would respond the same way.

      I loved Brazil! I really enjoyed myself there. I was doing an internship at a beautiful high end hotel, so lots of work, but outside of work I did some exploring. I loved my little city/town, I was in Campos do Jardao, and I did the usual trips, saw Rio and Sao Paulo. I want to go back to explore Bahia more and make it down south to the waterfall.
