I've been using one of these for 4 years now and I can't believe how well it works for the price! I use it for my voice in most of my videos. I'd recommend it to everyone as a great budget mic.
You might already know this, but you can use a TRSS to TRS adapter into camera and then don't have to use the battery. One issue I noticed, the recording ends up with some sort of 50 Hz humm / buzz. It depends a bit on how the cable is lying. I use a 50 Hz notch filter in the video editor to correct this, but something to be aware of.
I’ve been using a Boya corded mic for about three month now with my Cannon DSLR camera. It is a good mic, but not quite as good as the previous lavalier mic that has a transmitter/receiver that I had been using for a couple of years. Thanks for the video, Justin. Enjoyed it.
Bought this on your recommendation a while back. Capable little mic. I actually find the long cord a benefit, since I use it for product demos and interviews, and I can get the reach I want. I see you mentioned the other Boya options, but they also have a model (BY-M1S) that evidently is the same as this, but WITHOUT the need for a battery.
I have the same exact mic, but with mixed experience. There’s some contact problem with the switch on it. Sometimes it cuts the sound completely, often produces a static or hiss. If I rub the switch I might be able to get rid of this phenomena, but it’s not pleasant to be on the edge about if your mic is working or not when recording. A so-so product in my opinion.

I've got one and it works pretty well. You can always go and record your voice in a closet if there's too much background noise providing you don't have face on camera, of course.

So, my mic just went kaput today. Didn't find out until I put my intro into my video editor. Sounded like Rice Krispies throughout the take and just died. I knew the mic I wanted to get but decided to give a little affiliate love to a fellow RUclipsr. When I found this vid, had to do it. Wasn't much but every little bit counts. Keep on keepin on. do you know what's the difference between the Boya lavs with the small "box" like yours and the ones like the BY-M2 that doesn't have that box? this one can connect with 1 or 2 mics, that's what I'm looking for.. but maybe its sound is less good

I've used this mic for a few years on my wellness channel and still love it. yes it does record a bit too loud on my Samsung S8 or a DSLR, I usually put the volume down a bit in the editing software (how much it depends). Good to know about the tablet battery, I was wondering for how long it will last as I've never changed it (record mostly on my phone, now I understand why :). I bought a small fluffy dead cat for it as well. Now want to recommend it to a friend (she is a Mac/ iPhone user), realized that she might need a version with the lightning connector. Btw do you know how to connect it to zoom? and to have sound at the same time. I used to use it somehow on my old mic through a sound card, it worked well. but could not do the same on my Asus Zenbook.

I used to use a mic just like this when I first started making videos for my church a little over a decade ago. They're definitely a great bang for the buck! The long cord can get in the way or tangled sometimes, but it all depends how you use it. I appreciated it!
Am I right that we can record an audio to a smartphone in a pocket separately from a video, so that not being connected to a camera, and then just add this audio record to a video in a video editor? Some sort of “wireless” usage

However judging by your words ... there is a good chance this mic will serve me well in making RUclips videos especially shorts with better audio quality... obviously for a musician, this mic may still not be the greatest option when it comes to sound quality, however under the budget I am on at the moment, it could serve me well! I have an editing problem I hope you can help me resolve. First, I will describe the equipment I am using; Sony HXR-MC2500 video camera (no longer in production) Sony ECM-PS1 (OE) camera mounted stereo mic Sennheiser MKE 200 mono mic Boya BY-M1DM dual mono lav mics DaVinci Resolve 18.1 When recording with any of the mics, audio playback on camera is good. Playback on apps such as Window Media Player, etc, is good. Playback on DVR 18.1 is good for the Sony and Sennheiser mics. Playback from the Boya mics on DVR produces no audible sound, but the waveforms are present. WTF? Any help from you or your viewers will be deeply appreciated. Cheers

Thank you. The mics I am now using create a hollow, almost echoey sound. I realize it is caused by the room accoustics, but believe a lav mic will solve the problem (right in my price range, too).
Sold! Just ordered! I thought the audio from my phone was fine, until I listened to it with earbuds. Just a weird humming in the background that's not actually background noise. Hopefully this will make it better. Thanks!

Do you mind elaborate on the adaptor? As in the TRSS side to the microphone and TRS to the camera?
@@phucth91 Yes, TRSS on microphone side goes to TRS into camera. But I found the buzzing issue too annoying, so stopped using it.
Jep, the boya BY-M1 is still one of the best Mics i ever have used. One major con: the cable is crappy long.

I bought the same 2 years ago, but the switch got damaged after 4 months. It has a very long cable but it is still a cheaply made product.
I've got one and it works pretty well. You can always go and record your voice in a closet if there's too much background noise providing you don't have face on camera, of course.

Hey! We do use the Rode Wireless Go 2 but as a cheaper alternative the BOYA BY-M1 does an amazing job for a wired lapel microphone 👍

I am trying to use this with a Canon SL3 and it doesn’t work. It only works with my iPhone with the cable.
Bought the mic and it doesn’t sound as crispy as yours. Do you edit your audio after?
Nope, I don’t edit it afterwards, just make sure the volume isn’t too high on the device or camera you’ve got it connected too.
