BOYA by-MM1: amzn.to/35M3tvE
Rode VideoMicro: amzn.to/35LXmav
If you're doing a lot more movement while vlogging, I'd recommend the rode over the boya mic. The boya is very sensitive to wind noise (even with the windscreen on) and also very sensitive to shakes/movement. With a little bit of EQ you can get both of these mics sounding good! Hopefully this video helps you out with your decision :)

For anybody encountering problems with the Boya while using the dead cat in the wind: cut out the foam that is inside, it really works!
Really?? I am facing the same prb which is showing in the video, my boya mm1 cut my voice into pieces once i am in wind. Does your technique really works?
@@muhammadsaad6382 Yes, it really works. If you don't trust it, try to cut it out so you can attach it later. But this is the trick. You don't have a lot to lose because the sound you have now is not what you could use anyway. Let me know how it goes
By cutting inside foam, will it work with noise cancelation?
@@muhammadsaad6382 just cut the edges of the foam loose from the 'dead cat' and and try it. I don't know about noise canceling but everything should work fine.
@@muhammadsaad6382 Someone made a video about it I see: ruclips.net/user/shortsr5AB9Fo9Tdg?feature=share
You can separate the foam from the dead cat without damage if you do it carefully.
Hope this will answer your questions. Good luck bro
Now this is what a comparison video should be like.
Good comparison brother keep it up
true
YES
Yes, I agree.
True
This is the the best review I've ever seen.. they should learn how to review.. yeah from this video.!
Thanks buddy
I've been watching reviews for hours now and the is the most practical review I've seen soo far.thanks
This is the most thorough mic comparison I've ever watched! I'm clear on what to decide now. Thank you!
I'm using a R0de video mic for Zoom conferencing. The quality in your video sounded really good on my laptop, which is similar to what most of my customers used. I didn't notice the difference to the Boya in a room so I could of got the Boya and saved a little bit of money. What was missing in the test is what happens if you are recording voice from a distance and/or off to the size
thanks pare. It's actually amazing that the Boya just came free with the cam I bought. Such a competitive little mic!
This is the best comparison I've ever watched! Just plain clean comparison between the sounds of the 2 microphone. Thank you! 🙌🏼
Agreed! This is what I needed!
I'm having a tough decision because I just got the new Sony ZV-1 and the mic on that camera is pretty darn good but could be better so if you've used that camera before or anyone on here, do you know if the Rode Micro would make a substantial difference?
I got the Boya and I really love the sound. Thick and clear. The Sound from the ZV-1 is not that good in my opinion
thanks a ton! you answered my doubts so precisely. especially about the crackling sound when the camera itself is vibrating! is that a function of the furry windshield? one addition to your insights: if you are performing with live audio (with singers as well as instrumentalists, in a multicamera setup) this can be floor mounted, or even on a boom. the bass in the Boya does make a huge difference to liveperformances, when the cameras are on tracks. this is invaluable for independent filmmakers more than Vloggers!
I have the Rode Videomicro ME for phone, so far it's been good, but seeing your video i also tempt to have a Boya for back-up, but since it's not good with the wind so I'm happy with mine. I'm thankful seeing your video, short and precise, just what everyone needs to see
Man, you answered all my questions! Thank you so much!! Do you think there’s a lot of differences between Rode VideoMicro and VideoMic GO?
Great! Perfect comparison. You've set an example. Thanks!
thanks Jeremy super review. wind shield is important question for me... so happy to see your input before buying.
Thanks for a honest and not paid review, helps a lot
Very nice and simple comparison.
Totally worth watching, I was in market for my vlogs.
Great Help. Got my 1st Rode mike.
Cheers.
A music recording test would be the icing on the cake :)
Like if I am recording a dance video or a party how good can these capture the music
More like base of the cake
Damn man, you've got awesome content and your channel is so underrated.
BTW Subbed.
Thank you so mush for review, I chose external mic for my tours and you helped me so much:)
Dude you are the best. Honest and clear
This is really one of the best comparison videos. Thumbs up!
Very useful and backed up comparison between the mics. Keep it up! :D
Amazing review bro! hope to see more videos!
Thanks for this! Made my mind up on the Boya based on your review.
The best comparison. Well done!
I have not used Rode VideoMicro mic but have been using boya MM1, as you said, it is affected by wind, and noise I think it filters quite well and importantly, its genuine price is only 1/2 compared to Rode VideoMicro, or 1/3 if I buy imported goods in Vietnam 😀
Just the comparison I needed. thanks Jeremy. Gonna eat broccoli and then eat rice with the broccoli now.
Yours was the first that popped up in my search for rode and boya comparisons, thank you so much Jeremy clear and straight to the point. I'm new to this blogging thing so I have a question. With blogging indoors as I will be doing. Does the Boya mic still pic up clearly at a distance of about a meter or two?
Wow great! Do you still think it would be okay when I am maybe 5 ft away from camera? Boya mic. I do Taekwondo videos on my channel.
Thanks for this video. Exactly what I was looking for.
Excellent and Professional Review
Covering almost what was required
wow...the best review...you got the point to show fair comparison..unlike others..just test inside the room or outdoor...this is genius review.
this is the best review I've ever seen dude, Awesome man
❤️ from India
Super well done review, thank you!
What amazing comparison! Thank you so much!!
Thank you! Exactly what I needed to hear.
I've been researching and wondering why my voice doesnt sound good on boya, due to your video, now i know and have made a decision to purchase rode, my voice is kind of bassy and with boya, my voice sounds like an exhaust pipe, of course it can be fix with post but that's too much work compared to the time i can save with rode.
Thank you for this video wind screen is very important for me I need one of these mics for outdoor hiking and touring
Great review and amazing comparison. Although I'll say I thought the Rode sounded better out the box in all scenarios. Way less background noise there!
This is such a useful video, thanks man!
Quite innovative way to compare... ❤️❤️
Excellent and complete test. Thank you
Amazing review!! Thank you!
Hey, what about the new version, Boya MM1+ (Plus)
It has 2 ports for camera and other for phone to hear in real time, it is quite bigger and it looks that he got a better sound!
And also it is better with that wind test, that appear only to affect Sony cameras
Amazing review! Thank you 🎉
Thanks a lot for this knowledge (wind problem of boya) thanks a lot now i know which is best for each and every penny
Very helpful! Thank you😊
thx bro, its very informative and now i knew which one to go for. :)
it is good I watched this, I was about to buy the Boya, but I do a lot of outdoor stuff, so the wind noise problem is now causing met to think about paying up for the Rode
This comparison video is lit 🔥
Best review. Thanks mate.
Hi Jeremy, what Im interested in is the following: the boya mic is stuttering in wind and shaking. is this related to the wind shield or related to the fact that the mic holder has no smooth silicon layer which holds the mic? have you tried the boya mic in the holder or with the wind shield of the rode?
That's what i'm looking for :) Thanks for this amazing comparison .
i want your opinion about the best beginner mic for ( vox pops ) outdoor interviews
Thanks again :)
What was the distance from your camera to your face when you record the review? I bought Boya MM1 and record with my PC. It doesn't pick up any sound if the mic is about 30cm away from the sound source.
Great content bro !
I have been using my 2 boya mics (m1 and mm1) for majority of my talking head content and what i dislike about both is the fact that the "one directional" is sort of a scam. Why? Because my bedroom studio is untreated so any noise at home, even from our porch, can be picked up. I am wondering how rode would handle ambient noise.
Super thank you for this video! Straight forward comparison.
Very useful video Dude!!
Really best tutorial, and fair comparison ..
Many thanks 👍👌
Just one question... I've had the Boya for a few years now, I was just looking for a video comparing with the rode just to decide whether to upgrade or not, but in my trips I've never had these issues... are you sure your camera isn't cutting or peaking the audio signal from de boya?
OMG... never mind. I've just tried it with my Sony A77 mkII and the bass clips at every single noise... never had this issue with my Nikon D7200 and my Canon T6i
Which one would you recommend if noise cancellation is the deciding factor?
Boya released new Boya MM1+ , maybe you can make another comparison video of these three. Love your work 🥰
Ali Jan Bravo interesting, didn’t know that! Will check it out!
Excelent comparison! Congrats!!
Thank you very much.
Could it be that the Boya was mounted on your right hand side and thus blocking the Rode in the wind test?
Really well done! Used on real situations and exterior. I'm really happy i've just dnd't buy the bad option. Thanks you so much! Lets see the results ;)
Very good comparison! Thank you for the video
Hi! What splitter cable did you use to record on separate channels?
Thanks for this great review. Very profesionnal.
Very helpful, this is exactly how a comparison cideo should be done.
Thanks
Can you suggest a lavalier microphone? i'm thinking to go with Boya M1. Is there anything better than which is not too costly?
What would you recommend for a motorbike. All I want is to capture motorbike sound
I've had a few Rodes and thought they all sounded tinny. I'm really impressed with the low end of the Boya. You can always adjust the EQ later if you want a super crisp sound but the natural bass of the Boya is fantastic.
exactly what I thought
what camera do you use sir 😃
Parabéns pelo conteúdo de qualidade! Saudações aqui do Brasil!
I've been using rode for a while doing weddings and now I'm venturing more into content creation and looking for a value for money solution with these mics. I find that Boya is pretty good even better than the rode I think it just fall short when the electric fan was blown directly to it. Which is for me is a unlikely situation. Great review Jeremy!!!
the boya is way flatter and i'll bet you a tenner that you can get some nice results with a little high pass eq and a bit of compression
which would be better for a live performance? do they record in stereo or mono? does that matter?
After a lot of hours, I've found you. Thank you man.
Nice review! We need to to see if any of these budget mics can beat the new Rode Videomic Go ii (2). If you run these through Izotope I think the results will be pretty impressive. Definitely got spectacular results using the Boya lav and Izotope. Lastly, would be interesting to see if we can mod these mics with foam in order to cut down on wind interference . 🤔 time to see if anyone has successfully modded these cheap mics on RUclips.
what o you prefer for me boya by m11 or rode for recording vocals? and what mic do you prefer for recording vocals cheap mics
Best comparison, so helpful... 😊
Amazing review 👍 really helpful 😀
Thanks for this! Very helpful!
Great video man thank you so much
Great job! Now I know which to buy!
Hi, thanks to your video I decided to buy the Rode microphone. But now I have a problem, I'm looking up and down the net, searching for a fixed microphone holder to hold this microphone, as the one that comes standard is very cushioned, even too much for my needs and I need a fixed holder.
But I really can't find it, I don't care if it's original.
Can you help me please?
Have you test with comica shotgun mic?
Thanks for review..its the Rode for me! :)
thanks Jeremy it was helpful
This has been helpful. Thanks
Hi, can you share the link for your audio splitter? Thanks!
Very nice comparison! Finally made me decide for Rode :)
Super good review thanks a lot!
very good comparison. thumbs up to you 😊
Yeah , excellent comparison
really good review, thank you
I noticed my rode micro has white noise. Do you have a video or link on how to fix it thank you
There so much difference for both mic when handle the wind noise. Thanks for the video!
Hi Jeremy, we have the IDOLCAM VlogStar V2 shotgun/Lavalier microphone in one, can we send you one for the next mic review you are doing?
Rode hands down. Crisp with good mid and high range definition. Great review! Many thanks!
Thank you for doing this video 👏
