One of my favorite teacher youtuber.
Thanks!
I got the Boya BY-M1 thanks to your recommendation and loved it! But very quickly graduated to the Rode Wireless Go and pretty much been using that in most of my videos now. Especially handy when filming yoga videos... and great quality for talking head vids too. From one of YOUR recommendations too, I have the Boya BY-MM1 (Boya’s competitor of the Rode video micro here), but to be honest this is one I never use and will probably sell. I recently got the Shure MV7 for livestreams and recording meditations and I LOVE the sound quality of that. It’s not cheap but it’s worth the amazing sound. Thanks for making your educational videos, I’ve learned a lot from you! 🙌
Awesome - happy to help, Jaime 😊
This was a fantastic overview, thanks Justin. I was so confused about certain types of mic, and this video exceeded my expectations to help me figure things out. It set me on the path to explore the smartLav+ because I needed something to use with a mirrorless (occasionally) and my iPad (majority of the time). So I bought the Rode smartLav+ with the Rode SC3 TRRS to TRS converter. I also bought the Rode SC1 extension cable. This now has me covered for phones and cameras.
Wow, amazing to hear that! No problem! 🙏
Everything about your content is so perfect!!! You taught me so much...thank you
Justin.
Awesome to hear that - no worries!
Hey Justin,
Excellent video this will help to get my podcast show up and ready.. I really keep watching your videos and get all information and advice that I need to start up my shows... 🎙️
Hey, Tonia - so glad it helped 👍
Thanks for this! Just when am looking into getting a microphone!
I appreciate the work and research you guys at Primal Video put into the tutorials you share 👏👏👏.
No problem - glad you made it here 😀
Thanks! I currently use a Blue Yeti, and I plan on streaming and recording.
Thank you very much for breaking down on different types of microphones. Couldn't decide which one till you explained them thoroughly. Now I know which ones to get for different applications. Much appreciated your tech knowledge 😊
You're welcome - hope you found one that suits best for you 😊
I've always been looking here and there for a video like this. Thanks🙂
Glad you made it here - you're welcome 😊
Excellent video, so informative and professional. Love your back lights & background and the timestamp sections ticking along the bottom as well as the extra clever little things you do as mini Justin. I'm going to buy the Lavalier Microphone for now until one day when hopefully I get monetized, then maybe my budget can stretch to a wireless one.
Thank you - glad you liked it 😊
Perfect timing on this video. Picking up up the BOYA through your link today, thank you!!
Awesome - you're welcome 😊
Just what I was looking for, thank you! So the Rode wireless is a definite for most of my videos as I’m often playing guitar between talking (guitar is recorded directly through an interface). And the Rode NT shotgun when I have guests on the show and need to pick up both adequately.
You're welcome, Jason - thanks for watching too!
That was an excellent round-up, so thorough, it had all the info. I didn't really know and it was really, really helpful. Thank you.
Great - happy to help 😊
Great video. I'm at the point of trying to decide which microphone will suit a number of different uses from Vlogging outside to Podcast / Studio work. It has helped a lot. Thanks.
So glad it helped - no worries!
I need to buy one right away. Very great and inspiring tutorial J. Brown.
Awesome - thanks for watching 👍
Thanks Justin for your kind information very helpful. I think your channel is going to touch million this year very proud of you and congratulations.
You're welcome - hoping for the best 😊
Mini Justin is very entertaining! Really enjoyed that... thank you
Glad you were entertained - no problem 👍
Always, always useful and I'm grateful to you constantly. Thank you again.
Happy to help - you're welcome 👍
Thanks friend. Straight to the point. No fluff. Excellent content.
You're welcome - glad you liked it.
Thank you Justin. Your videos are so helpful. I appreciate how you explain everything. And I love your voice.
You're welcome - so glad it helped 👍
Fabulous content!! Answered all my questions and even those I didn’t ask! Thank you!
That's great! You're welcome! 😊
Great video Justin! The Rode wireless go sounds really good. I currently have the Rode micro, but thinking about upgrading soon.
Thanks, Adrian - awesome to hear that!
I don't understand why you do not have a million views per video because so far you have been the best tutor I have ever come across...anyway, only time would tell right. Thumbs up 👍👍👍
Thanks for the great feedback and glad to have you here 😀
Thanks Justin, I watched your video and just bought the lav mic from your link....I was told to watch your videos from a guy in India at the Vodaphone call center of all places..I was buying a new iphone to film my youtube vids (just getting back into it and want to learn as much as I can to improve my editing as well as filming and sound) and ordered the latest iphone and the guy said I should def subscribe to your videos. So you just never know where you get your views from! I'm getting my set up done and then will start filming again in a couple of weeks....so I'll be watching a lot more of your videos!
That's great to hear! Feel free to watch any time! 👍
Very thorough, informative. Thank you! Love your videos!
Awesome - no problem 👍
Very helpful overview and recommendations--thanks!

That's awesome to hear! You're welcome! 🙏
So much good information. Thank you!
Great to hear that, you're welcome - Hazel, PV Team
Justin - Fantastic video! Have watched several and now subscribed here and to "Insider" - Question please: What stopped you from recommending the RODE VideoMicro as the best "allrounder" over the Rode Videomic NTG? Thank you.
Great and so useful info! Thank you!
Awesome - no problem!
Finally a perfect microphonr video♥️after checking all youtube for days, you made me make a choice! 🔥
That's awesome to hear! 😃
Thank you ive needed a mic since i stream this video is a real help thx
No problem - so glad it helped 👍
Excellent resources thank you a million times!!!
Great, you're welcome!
Microphones are like empires, they come and go. In the 1960's I used to play with Sennheiser and they were just unreal! No pop noises, you could blow into them and they remained without artefacts. 70 years later we seem to reinvent the wheel. Sure they got smaller and more affordable and wireless ones have different operating frequencies. Has our hearing changed? Sure our perception has!
I find this to be funny and true
Hi Jay, yet another great video. Could you please recommend a decent in-ear headset/mic with an extra-long cord? For context, I'm looking to do interviews whilst streaming through Streamyard. Thanks mate!
Great Video, Justin! I've been wondering about USB micro. Now I know that won't work for me.
I'm so glad you said that you could use the Boya M1 with the Rode Wireless Go! Mine is on back order but I'm excited to try the Rode.
Thanks, Mia!
Honestly you are my Guru regards RUclips related.. whenever I have issues I'm only searching for your channel and got clear solutions You are So helpful .. I really appreciate 👋👋
Wow, so awesome to hear it! Thanks, Annie! 🙏
Thank you for the detailed video. I am between Oktava mk 012 and NTG 5. My need is to record indoor and outdoor dialogue for narrative. Which love to get your opinion on which you would use between the two if you could pick just one. Can a third short condenser shotgun be a better choice? Thanks
I'm using a lapel mic. Have to save for the all rounder you recommended. Thanks for this video.
You're welcome 👍
I use the Boya BY-M1, works likes a charm compared to the usual earphone w/mic phone accessory. I recommend this espcially to those who are just starting out.
Does it pick up any noise or white noise ?
Mr.Brown thank you very much for this amazing video. I was soo lost before I saw this video.
You're welcome, Filip - glad you made it here! 😊
Perfect!!
Just what I needed
Great!
Love your channel! You have helped me so much !
Awesome - happy to help! 👍
Thanks for the advice.
You're welcome 👍
I had a rode mini shotgun and thought that was great but now have the TakStar 598. I've not looked back since
Wow Thanks for information ℹ️ ❤️
You're welcome 😊
I use the movo vxr10 shotgun mic that I bought for only $40 but I just recently bought the boya M1. Can't wait to test it out
👍
Thisbis very helpful thanks for this video😊
Happy to help - you're welcome 😊
Great video thank you! 👍😊
You're welcome, Angela 😊
Thank you. I've subscribed.
You're welcome, Rachel - great to have you here! - Hazel, PV Team
Thank you thank you! I record a lot of free meditations for RUclips for my Pathway Of Joy page. But the audio I realized is subpar. I am going to go ahead and purchase the inexpensive BOYA BY-M1. Not only is it inexpensive but it actually does sound like it would be the best one for my situation.
You're welcome - all the best with your purchase 👍
I do it every time look at other blogs for answers Then I come to Primal Video where I know I can get good honest unbiased reviews Great video Justin will not waste anymore time with other channels 👍👍👍👍👍👍
So awesome to hear it! Thanks, Waltham! 😊
great info as aways guys.
Obviously a better mic is the way to go, do you have any favourite software for reducing echo/reverb in edit?
Thanks for your very helpful sharing 😉
You're welcome 😊
Overall love the video and have the Rode Videomicro. But I like my Shure MV88 better. Better sound and better distance - but it’s $145. For my Canon M-50, I totally love to use my $22 Sony lapel. It has amazing stereo sound. I’m disappointed with the Diety mic due to buzzing sounds. For podcasts, the Samson G-Track Pro does very well with a rich sound. In addition, the Samson has cardioid, Omni, and figure eight all in one - does well for music too. Great bang for the $$$. Word also is that the Shure MV7 is a gold standard for podcasting if you can afford over $200. I wish Justin has shown more choices out there - audio is worth the investment.
Thank you so much for this clear video, right now we are using the Boya BY-M1 and Rode mini shotgun. We want to start doing a podcast and where considering using the "Samson Technologies Q2U USB/XLR", currently trying to get more info about this mic. We have echo issues in the recording room, and need a mic that will not pick up the noise. So far the lavalier is ok, but I wish for something better.
You're welcome, hope it works out for you 👍 - Hazel, PV Team
Thanks for this, I need better audio for my videos. I'm learning a lot.
You're welcome 👍
Brilliant advice on audio speakers
Thanks, Sandra!
Thanks for great video 👍👍
No worries 👍
Amazing video. 😊
Thanks 😊
Awesome video! I'm curious, what made you decide not to include dynamic mics in your roundup? I know XLR --> DAC --> computer (or phone!) can be obnoxious, but there are some good USB dynamics on the market...
Hey! These are just our favorite mics at the moment but we love all mics (especially Mike Brown) 👍
Question: What microphone do you recommend for recording live acoustic guitar or piano music? A Shotgun mic? Thank you. Great video
Justin, I love your content. Keep up the good work
Thanks, Joyce 😊
@@PrimalVideo you're welcome
Your videos are fantastic. thank you.
So awesome to hear it! 😃 - Hazel, PV Team
I've been using Rode smartlav+ with extension cable. I seem to get better audio than my Blue Yeti. It's made to connect directly to smartphones as opposed to DSLR cameras.
Ridiculously dumb question: How did you attach the Lavalier Go inside your shirt, and did you use the pop filter?
I just got the Lavalier Go and have had some issues with sharp popping sounds even when using the pop filter and the mic attached to my collar.
In another video, she shows that he taped it on his chest with scotch or painters tape. Myself when I tried it the 🎤 brushed against my sweater and did a shhhsssshhhh sound every time I moved.
@@deckharlot Thank you! I had the brushing sound issue when attaching it to my hoodie, so I can imagine it would be an issue actually in a shirt.
@Mantapnyoss I can’t seem to find it right now, unfortunately.
@@deckharlot @Hooks Hollands This shorts video from Primal Video should help both of your problems if you haven't seen it yet: ruclips.net/video/DYvIL6TQ6Lg/видео.html
Hi! Can you do a video on a good video conference calls set-up? How do I connect my phone to my laptopto use its camera? What headset/speaker can I use with my lav mic?
Justin you are best of the best teachers thanks sir for clearity
Thanks, so awesome to hear it! 🙏
What is the best for silent video? Only catching your sound effects from actions and avoided background noise & the air conditioner? Thanks!
Justin, thanks for the value you bring! Around 20 seconds into your video, you included an animated version of yourself pointing at the like button - so cool - how did you do that!?
You're welcome - glad you liked it. You can watch the tutorial on that, just search "3D pop out effect". Hope that helps 😊
@@PrimalVideo 👍🏾thanks, watching now - the 800th like, lol!
Thanks for helping me upload my first video about the Tesla model y 7 seater. Appreciate your info sir.
You're welcome - all the best on your channel 👍
@@PrimalVideo awesome, I'll continue to study your videos.
I remember when I started recording on MY RUclips CHANNEL,I learned the BASICS from you Justin and it has reflected a lot on the quality of my videos.
Great to hear that, Victor! 😊
Great valuable video thanks👌👌
So awesome to hear that, cheers 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
I use the fifine for my zoom meetings and it is fantastic and reasonably priced
Good evening
I'm new to the channel and I have been watching all your videos
Great - glad to have you here 👍
Great video Justin . We got the Rode idea micro 👌🏼🧱👍🏼thanks.
Thanks 👍
@@PrimalVideo 🧱👍🏼
Rode has great products. I still have to recommend microphones from Deity that I like more and often at a better price. Thanks for your great video Justin. 👍👏
So glad you enjoyed it! 👍 - Hazel, PV Team
This will help me alot thanks
So glad it helped - no worries 👍
What is a good lav mic for dual setup capability for both cameras and smart phones?
Thank you for this informative video! I ordered an inexpensive wireless mic and am very disappointed in it. I've had to scrap two videos so far. I just purchased the Boya mic.
You're welcome - enjoy using your newly purchased Boya mic! 👍
Hi Justin, thanks for the video. What bracket are you using @ 05:45?
Justin,I like your educational videos very much. Quick question, when shooting kids videos, which sites do I get the free copyright backgrounds or locations for kids videos?Thank you.
Thanks so much! We have a video on stock video here: ruclips.net/video/Hrf0xMv7CpI/видео.html
Hey Justin
Can you make a video on Rainmeter?(Its a desktop customization app available on windows and mac)
My personal favourite microphone is the Rode videomic. This small and portable shotgun mic is affordable, features great sound, and is really easy to use. I use it in all my videos so if you wanna hear how it sounds, have a listen. High recommended! 👍🏻
Me two
@@Floppy_flo5609 Do you have the same mic?
Nice one Justin. Could you do one on microphones for narration/voiceover? I was recommended a Rode USB mic on another channel. it’s OK, but a bit tinny. Do you think an upgrade to xlr is the way forward?
Hey! For voiceovers your best bet is probably a podcast microphone, so a Rode NT-USB or mini would work great!
@@PrimalVideo thanks Justin.
Justin! I bought the Rode VideoMicro following your advice. I had to return it because my MacBook Air doesn't recognize it and it's too much of a hassle to adapt it. I'll still follow you, though. Thanks for the guidance.
Sorry to hear that.. an old MacBook Air I’m guessing? Also the adapter is about $15
@@PrimalVideo It was super easy to return the Rode. I ordered a better one. Yeah...my Mac is not terribly new, although I have Big Sur. Now I need to go watch your OBS tutorials!
Great video. Thanks!
I am wondering how can you have your smartphone plugged into your pc and have a microphone hooked up as well?
Hey, I use a lapel microphone for filming and stick it under my shirt with tape.
I have both the Boya lav mic and the small Boys mini shotgun mic. For some reason my Google Pixle 3 recognises a mic but doesn't actually work so in using the mic with a small Sony digital dictaphone. The lav mic is fantastic but the shotgun has limitations. It's fantastic at wind suppression and other background noise outdoors but I really struggle to get the audio level. I'm considering a powered shotgun mic or probably a Rode Wireless Go 2 and interview mic as a do it all option with my Current Boya Lavaliere.
My content is a mix of car road test and car events so a bit mixed.
Another great informative video.
Thanks - hope this helps with your decision making! 👍
@@PrimalVideo It most certainly will do.
It's great to see your product reviews but it if you get the opertunity it would be nice to see a real world test outside in a really noisy environment to see how the various microphones work.
Have you tried the the Micbooster Lavalier Mic Clippy em172/272 from the UK?
It should also be a great budget lavalier. I think it’s around 30-40€/£ I am not sure how the endcost was.
Also the V.Lav from Diety should be great but is around 50$.
Do you know them?
Hi Justin, we have the IDOLCAM VlogStar V2 shotgun/Lavalier microphone in one, can we send you one for the next mic review?
I gotta say that I started RUclips with your video "How to open a RUclips Channel".
Your videos are of high quality.
Great to hear that - thanks! 😊
@@PrimalVideo
You are welcome
I currently use a Yeti Blue mic for recordings, conferences, etc. Have had it for years and it works great. Just added a boom mount and shock stand for it.
Best option for iPhone where you’re interviewing someone in front and you’re behind and need to capture both (interview mode)?
Thanks ur great help to me
No worries - so glad it helped 👍
Im using the røde nt-usb mini and personally is the best purchase I’ve made yet
👍
Hi I am looking at omnidirectional microphones for online yoga classes. I had tried the Saramonic wireless and the range wasn't that good. I am looking at Presonus mic called Revalator - I am wondering if this is better than lavalier wireless for fitness/movement classes?
I would love to use your review but I have a few requirements I need to hear in my head set my voice in real-time , would like to be able to connect to PC while streaming and want it to be dynamic mic. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
@ Justin Brown - for singing and playing guitar at the same time which one would be better. I already have Boya M1 but if I play guitar and sing at the same time it picks only one sound. So need help. Another thought can I buy another Boya M1 and keep it near the guitar and use dual audio splitter to use both mic jacks
Any one can help please?
