"Now I'm sitting at the top of a mountain and I've got the microphone plugged to a device that I've built myself and this is how the microphone sounds". All joking aside, it's not the first time I come across your videos and they're the best when it comes to testing stuff. I just love them. Keep up the amazing work!
Hands down, the best no BS review. I love the the fact that you mentioned the mic specs and did many real world practical tests. Thanks for mentioning your settings. Sooooooooooooo many reviews fail to provide the quality details this review does. Thanks!
I bought a couple of these mics at the start of the year and they've stood up to being used in a school for the last six months. Both are still working fine and are on their original batteries.
This video made me buy this mic for my budget guest podcast setup. I got just one to see for myself if it fit my needs before i splurged on a bunch of them, but I'm pretty confident that it's perfect. I really appreciated how straightforward this review actually was! No nonsense, no random unrelated personal anecdotes, no hmmms and ums, no crinkling plastic packages, and tested across multiple devices and OS--simply a perfect review. I didn't even know how bad a review could be until I saw how good this one was XD
You are the best audio device reviewer on RUclips. Probably on the planet. Great content, very crisp, honest and thorough. For any audio device I have bought or recommended, I never look anywhere else if I see your review of it.
I recently invested in this and honestly am blown away, given I previously had one that was from Germany and paid a good $250. The clarity of this is outstanding especially combined with ZOOM H2N + NVIDIA BROADCAST WOW!! 10/10
Awesome review. No nonsense. Told me everything I needed to know. Loved being able to hear the comparison of sound quality between different devices. Great work!
I used to game with a guy who connected earbuds to his mic jack and they sounded better than most headset mics. Okay, not true. It sounded like hot ass, but my point still stands. Headset mics are garbage.
One thing I've noticed about this mic is how different the sound quality is depending on what you plug it into. Sounded terrible when recording from my samsung s6 but when plugged into my canon 80d it sounds amazing. Great for the price!
Also bought this mic last week after having watched recommendation on RUclips. Compared it to my GoPro Hero 4 Silver built-in mic, this Booyah mic sounds significantly better. I have always hated listening to my own voice on playback but this mic makes my voice so much more tolerable that I don't mind hearing for extended period :D
noodlefoo bro i bought it today.......in smartphone mode it catches noice ...(i use mi A1smartphone)...but on same phone in camera mode it doesnt catches wind noice .......why is it so?.......if i'm using it on my phone then it shouldn't be catching noice in smartphone mode ...also i am using footage camera 3rd party camera app.......plz reply ...i wanna know whats the problem....
Just received mine: It does everything you say very well. I especially like the battery/preamp capsule as it's rock solid. The cable length is great for running from the lapel of a guest to my various recording set-ups both remote and in-studio. Thanks for posting this excellent review video, Bandrew!!!
You do great work! Was going to get a the NW 700, but you sold me on lavalier mics. Did some research and found this brand on my own, came to see your review and it confirmed that I was making the right purchase. Thanks again for your help in determining the right mic to use.
From Australia, you can buy these things for around $15 on eBay, which is about $12 US, so I bought two. Because the lavalier has a trrs plug - I also bought two adapters on eBay (trrs female to trs male) for a little over $1 each, and they work great. Bargain
you're the best! you connected the mic to an awesome lot of devices!! hell yeah!! you tested it on literally anything and everything which is available out there!! thanks man
I don't know if you are aware but the Amazon page for this microphone is using a chopped up version of your review in their ad. They cut your intro and conclusion. It also looks like they cropped out your logo. My apologies if you gave them permission but the cut intro/conclusion and cropping out your logo seemed fishy and if it were me I would want to know. Also, great review as always. I am going to be giving one of these a try since its currently only $15.
Inspired by both of your 2 most recent videos, today I tried plugging the Boya (with 1/4" adapter) into the 1/4" Line In input of the DBX286s, and....wow!!! Finally a way to record quality audio from a (cheap) lav mic, with zero noise (provided I adjust the gain properly), and with some useful adjustments as a bonus. Because I sometimes need to use a lav, this is like the Holy Grail of setups. Thanks!!!
Dam I've been looking at lavs all day and I didn't even think to do this, could you link me to an an audio sample if you still have this setup? Only issue is I don't think this giant 20ft cord is going to be long enough to reach my dbx from my vive. Can I chain it to another 20 foot stereo extension cable to this thing without any quality degradation?
Can someone help me, please, I have this mic and I am trying to use it with my Windows 10 PC it is producing a hissing sound throughout the recording. Can anyone tell me how I can stop this?
How did you connect this to PC? Mine is not detecting a mic. I tried updating and reinstalling the drivers but it's not working. You got any solutions???? Please help.
I do get your recommendation for vloggers not using it, but I could imagine using a small plastic spindle to roll it onto (the type that comes with LED strips) that could easily fit inside the provided bag it ships with. I just ordered the 2-mic version of this same product and I'm awaiting delivery. It sounds good on this video. Nice one.
Wow... So I'm not the only one who had horrible results from this mic in a windows 10 device. I thought it was just a horrible mic, but apparently it actually does sound decent on other devices. Strange. I found it sound horrible with a horrible noise floor and clipping making it unusable for recording audio, but your example in the mobile phone actually sounds good.
Laptops do not have TRRS jacks. That second R is actually an output for combination earphone/microphone setups. Laptops use separate output jacks so each jack is TRS. It is entirely correct for any microphone intended for smartphone or tablet use to have a TRRS connector so it does not short that output to ground. The extra ring connection is unterminated.
I bought the other day and tested it with my Note 20 Ultra. The sound is aweful. It's noisy and I can't hear my voice clearly. What might be the problem?
I use it on a DSLR and the primary downside is there's no battery indicator; you can't tell the battery is dead until *after* you've recorded a bunch of video with it not working. Huge design flaw, IMO.
thank you very much for the effort in making such a clear and concise review, i aprecciate it very much, have a great day and i hope everything goes well in your life
"Recording directly from my iPhone 7+ with a Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter; I know, so dumb!" This is why I have an Android phone (LG G4.) Apple products in general have been declining in quality since the 2012 Macbook Pro, or probably earlier than that. I don't like Apple products because in my opinion, they are overpriced and underpowered. It's also why I won't have a Mac unless I build a Hackintosh. The only good thing about soldering the RAM to the motherboard would be that if I need to replace a Mac's motherboard whenever I'm working in IT after college, I don't need to put in new RAM modules. Other than that, only being able to upgrade the hard drive or SSD is very stupid. Don't professionals desire being able to upgrade components, especially in cases like video rendering and 3D modeling? It's a flawed design mentality whenever a company like Apple rips most of the I/O from the newest Macbook Pro models. It seems like they are moving backwards in technology so that the consumer will need to pay more for absolute necessities like a 3.5mm port or an SD card slot for some people. Though the iMac Pro looks interesting, it's not for me personally. I'm sure that my points in this post have a bunch of flaws, but it's only my opinion. What do you guys think about Apple's change in design philosophy/mentality, at least when it comes to their decisions on I/O, internal hardware upgrades, etc.?
ok, so? This isn't a Iphone review and this is a audio equipment review channel. You're in the wrong channel. If you think that your opinions on apple matter here, you're wrong.
Just don't go on tangents. You didn't need to go into this much detail. No one cares that apple is shit now. Everyone knows it. Apple knows it but they still keep doing it. But this just wasn't the right place to post this.
Thanks, great review. I just don't get your idea that the long cable is annoying. It comes with a velcro band to tie everything together neatly if you don't need the long cable. I tie most of it and leave 4-6 feet for normal use and use a rubberband to tie that together. But I can see why that could be something you don't want. In Corona times the 6 meters have proven to be very useful btw 😀. Stay healthy, safe and sane everyone.
Very helpful video and good explanation by using different devices and showing the quality of the voice. It's almost same and I have been using this microphone since a month and so far it's a good buy and great quality at this price.
Just got one at my local pawnshop for 1$ I’m astounded at the quality of this very professional quality piece of equipment very heavy you’ll be satisfied
wow it seems this is a good beginners microphone for starting a commentary youtube channel, i was looking at full hand held microphones but the set up is so bulky and i dont want my parents to know
The audio didn't work on the last 2 videos I filmed on my DSLR Canon camera with this mic. I even did a test first. Is there something obvious I might be doing wrong? I had it switched to camera mode.
You mentioned that the mic is clipping when plugged directly into the iPhone. I'm getting the same problem. You mentioned using an app to manually adjust the gain. *What app?* I downloaded vocalive free, but that app stops recording when I switch apps over to the camera... Which defeats the purpose. I saw a review for something called FILMIC, this looks like a it does what I want but it costs$19.99. any tips or suggestions anyone? I spent like an hour learning to use vocalive, and I feel like I'm just wasting time screwing with apps that are designed for a completely different purpose and overly complicated for something as simple as *I just want to adjust the gain on my lavalier mic when I record videos!*
I hope that someday you will do a video on best carioid unidirectional lav mics. These are supposed to be good for recording speech while videoing outdoors in noisy city and public areas. They are said to cut back about 50% on background noise. Maybe also you could recommend those omnidirectional lav mics that pick up the least background noise. Many thanks for all the informative vids.
Just a quick note re battery availability. These batteries are available virtually everywhere, maybe even more available than ‘regular’ batteries since they can be purchased at every drug store, many of which are open 24/7. They are also very affordable and can be stored for years.
I bought this, it sounds good comparing the macbook air's microphone, rich sound. However, when I connect the mic, I can only record and I can no longer hear my speakers. Any idea how to solve this? I tried to change the Audio Output but no luck.
This is a tiny point, but only the most expensive cables are jacketed with ‘plain rubber’. It is still the gold standard for wire insulation as regards durability. Plain PVC would be more accurate, though there are so many grades of PVC. Far less flexible and durable, not to mention very cheap.
Hi! Loved the video. Mine one don't work on windows 10 laptop. Used the camera mode too but no result. Is there anything I need to do to before using it in windows 10 device? (Works fine with mobile phone)
Hey thought Id let you know that I decided to buy this mic based on your review. It should be good enough for what I am using it for. Thanks a lot mate
I noticed a hiss on the windows 10 test. huge background noise. Would it be possible to remove this hissing sound with an equalizer? For reference: 3:23
Just so you know: If you buy this and your LR44 battery dies, that is an old battery code, the new name of that battery is a 357. You're welcome!
Thanks!
hello, how long does the battery usually last? I am planning to pair it with the zoom h1. Appreciate your response.
I used the 357 battery in an Audi
I use the 357 as a replacement for the LR44 and it seems to work fine.
Hi, I don't get why this mic needs a battery and others don't, can someone explain me ? Thanks :)
"Now I'm sitting at the top of a mountain and I've got the microphone plugged to a device that I've built myself and this is how the microphone sounds". I bought a couple of these mics at the start of the year and they've stood up to being used in a school for the last six months. Both are still working fine and are on their original batteries.

This video made me buy this mic for my budget guest podcast setup. Does it capture your guests on the podcasts voice ? Or it only captures your voice?
Does it pick up background noise?
You are the best audio device reviewer on RUclips. Probably on the planet. Great content, very crisp, honest and thorough.

And this is how microphone sounds. I really like he does a lot tests not just simple speaking. Nice work.
Hands down, best review of this mic out there. No waste of time, specifications, and so many practical tests. Great stuff, buddy!
Awesome review. No nonsense. Told me everything I needed to know. Loved being able to hear the comparison of sound quality between different devices. Great work!
The most useful and efficient, comprehensive review I have ever watched! Thanks!
Literally better than any headset mic, wow.

Use an audio interface
just so you know, there's very little background noise not because it has background canceller, but because his room is filled with acoustic panels

same thing happened to me but i replace battery and it fixed
@madhav Sharma. Thanks a lot it resolved my issue

I just had mine delivered yesterday.Waiting to try it out soon.
Is it good?
gilora twer Yes,perfect .The 2 meters long cable is perfect for long distance
Excellent review, I'm willing to compromise and tie up the excess cable with a zip tie for such a good price!
Probably the best review of this mic, on YT. Thanks for making this Video. :)
Wait, you linked a USB sound card in the description? Is this a reliable one?
I got the same question
yes because in previous video that you did with soundcards I confused a little bit for what soundcard a should buy
I'm not sure. This is one I bought April 2016. It's the same model number still though.
if your gonna buy anything to do with memory buy from the most trusted there's a reason why random brands have such cheap products
I do get your recommendation for vloggers not using it, but I could imagine using a small plastic spindle to roll it onto (the type that comes with LED strips) that could easily fit inside the provided bag it ships with. I can't say if this is the best mic, but I can assure you that this is the best review video for this device I've seen on youtube.

Excellent review, you covered all I wanted to know. Keep up the good work.
I noticed a hiss on the windows 10 test. huge background noise. Would it be possible to remove this hissing sound with an equalizer? For reference: 3:23
