This is mind blowing 🤯🤯 I think the real difference is in the screen quality so more recent models have better screen quality and users enjoy more the experience of taking photos because the feel like they have better cameras but they actually have better screens so the photos look nicer. In fact, I own a Pixel 2xl and a Pixel 7pro and I have owned a pixel 4a and a pixel 6 in the past. All this time I thought the camera was improved but when I see old pictures in Google photos on the screen of my pixel 7 pro, taken with my old pixel devices, the quality of those old photos just looks like the ones taken with my pixel 7pro. It's insane
Looking at these results I think that Google has not done a good enough job utilizing the 50 MP of the Pixel 6 and 7 cameras. Hopefully this will improve with software.
To this day it isn't even possible to take a picture with the full 50MP. It's always cropped to 12MP on a Pixel with no option to activate. Google is turning more into Apple by giving less and less freedom and features while Apple is going flat out with actually useful features: - Client side encryption - Find My Network - camera presets - Email Aliasing
At this stage, it's not about the resolution but about the render. When you shoot a person, the natural blur is so much better with the GN1! And it's way better for videos.
Thank you for the camera comparison video. It was very eye-opening. I had a Pixel 2 and upgraded to the Pixel 5 when it was released. The first thing I noticed is that the quality of the Pixel 5 photos was disappointing in many cases when compared to the Pixel 2. My Pixel 5 consistently seems to make the color blue appear purple. Night Sight works much better on the 2 vs 5. In fact, the normal camera mode on my 5 produces better night photos than Night Sight. Logic seems to follow that the newest is always better than the previous. However, this doesn't always happen in reality. I'm hoping that the future Pixel cameras produce the highest quality photos.
This is the most helpful camera comparison ever imo! Many thanks!! (: will you do an updated one with the pixel 8 and 8pro? We seem to have reached a stagnation point kinda in smartphone photography. I'm using a pixel 4 and still manage to do so many great shots!
I have a pixel 6 as my daily phone, but I always prefer the photos from my 4a. I don't know why, but they just look better. I think something the pixel team should review what's happening
I've been looking forward to an upgrade, since my phone is five years old. I thought there would be a huge improvement after so many models. But since the improvement is so small, it makes me think maybe even now is too soon to upgrade.
Well, this is really interesting. It makes me think that I should hang on to my PIxel 4a 5g until Google can produce better cameras and software in future models. Apart from some of the 4a 5g images looking rather cool occasionally (especially at night) I'm well satisfied for the time being.
After Marc Levoy left Google (around P4 and P5 release) who was the main engineer for Pixel camera and responsible for all this computational magic, Pixel camera kind of stop improving.
Thanks for this comparison sir. I also want to vote but it is it is too difficult to choose from them. Thats really appreciate this you did for us. Thank you so much for your work
Helpful / unhelpful. Accurate / inaccurate. Like / dislike. I'm not going to go there for this video but here just putting it out that - man, GREAT efforts. Shooting with 8 phones at a time then bringing it to the edit to scripting it, really appreciate your efforts brother! Good going :)
Would love to see this redone with Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 4 XL. I am surprised to see that even now sometimes P4 XL outperforms P8 Pro with a lot better sensors, detail and natural look on P4 XL is just crazy.
First!! Will edit when I finish watching... I love me some camera comparisons!! very good video... that's all I'll say. My take? whatever google phone you get, you'll get a kick ass camera and a wonderful google flavoured experience 😎
Thank you so much for this video. No more obvious way to show that optimization is a little lacking on last gen pixels. Please if you could point out this software issue i found in pixel 7 pro cameras. It seems that the telephoto does not allow more than 2 secs in auto or manual Night sight. Which is a bummer because 6 sec with the telephoto gives you way denoised and clear image compared to the main and ultrawide lenses. You can see it for yourself in very low light scenarios without tripod. The only way i found to force a max of 6 secs is switching from the main to the tele as fast as possible. This is more common in 10x or above and affects not only in night conditions but in high dynamic scenes. Thanks in advance! You are our voice to rpixel users
@@Shark123-m2l true but even having a bad pulse, i find it possible and with really decent results. With the max 2 sec it usually maxes it is too dark, and way to artifacty after you turn up the highlights
Wow this is what I've been waiting... can't wait to finish d video. The 6a rocks 👍 . Google should fine tune the new sensor although it's bigger. I really enjoyed this video cuz of the places..i miss Dubai especially in winter ❤️😎
The old software team might have left from gcam section at their office. They used to be the best. The change in pixel size, can change the software tuning. The software is optimized only for older 12 mp sensor models. That leaves room for improvement which is left as such. Custom roms, adb bridges for pixel models can hopefully address the room for improvement.
Shame, the 4 was god awful to use. The 5 and 3 have been my favourite so far with the 7 Pro coming in 3rd. I hated the 6 Pro slightly less than the 4XL
It wasn't until my experience with Samsung's s95b QD OLED TV that I was open to the possibility that a company would sabotage the quality of its product. With every firmware update I did on that TV, the quality of the TVs picture degraded more and more. I now believe that's what happened with pixels 4XL. That's the only reason I can assume why the portrait mode photos weren't as good as they were when I used to use mine. The Pixel 6 pro and 7 pro were terrible in terms of portrait mode, photo quality compared to my old pixel 2 XL and 4XLs.
I think it would have been better to see a video comparing the results of each photo according to the parameters you showed the video...since you could only compare the results based on the photos that had more votes and I could that the photos that no one voted when comparing them have better results. 👍
Nice comparison. My opinion is that 1.4 micrometer for the pixel size is optimal (as in the old sensor) while the binned 2.4 micrometer pixel of the new sensor does not offer more details. But the new sensor offers more light (thus better photos at dark and better videos) as well as the central telephoto lens at 2x. These benefits along with more cameras and more options (long exposure, macro, etc) makes p7pro the best pixel ever in my opinion, even though I still much like my p4xl.
Smart phones pretty much do simple fast landscape photos better than any DSLR (except of course for actual, crop, detail). Whilst the larger sensor and larger aperture shoots landscape photo-ability in the leg. In return some shallow depth of flied effects get introduced, which in my opinion is more important. It's impressive to see old phones keep up, thanks to computational photography, ability to have some shallow depth and even less noise, and similar detail is a great update to the hardware.
My pixel 4 XL took way better portrait mode photos then my pixel 7 Pro. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I believe the updates to the pixel 4 XL degraded the quality of port remote photos over time.
"The latest leak comes with live photos of the alleged 7a along with some specs. The tipster cites a 6.1-inch, 1080p, 90Hz OLED panel, Google's Tensor G2 SoC (the flagship chipset for 2022) and UFS 3.1 storage. The camera setup on the back consists of a 64MP Sony IMX787 main camera coupled with a 12MP ultrawide one. The former will likely pose a significant upgrade over the Pixel 6a's 12.2MP unit." -GSMArena- Looking forward to 7a using Sony sensor.
I'm still using my GP5 because it's the perfect size. The battery life could be better but that's okay. I wont upgrade until Google makes a smaller variant again without any compromises. Also rear fingerprint reader is far better than the in-display one.
@@chalangathammini On a busy work day which is 2hrs of waking before I clock in 12hr shift. I come home with about 30%. My two biggest issues. Is that there is a bug where it's showing my battery usage being 50-100% each day which is incorrect. Also my phone idle is using up about 20% or more. I contacted Google support about it. They said it could have been from a security update and I'll just need to factory reset my device. All and all. It gets me through the day depending on usage.
This is a great comparison of pixel camera evolution over the last few years. Considering pixel was the camera king from pixel 3 onwards. No regular pixel 6?! it's the best out of all of them.!! I'm so glad I bought one, the camera is my favorite thing ever 😁 Great comparison videos though, super detailed & informative thanks
I only could conclude that they're just similar, the thing that make pixel camera good is the software and unfortunately they're still not stable, as a result are inconsistent. the AI behind the camera still not 100% consistent and accurate.
Not gonna lie, before i watch this Im willing to bet the pixel 2 beats some of these newer devices in some cases. Not at low light mind you. I did a similar test on my channel between the pixel 2, 5 and 6 a couple years ago.
I have the Pixel 7 Pro and iPhone 13 (I also had the Pixel 6 Pro), and this comparison just proves how inconsistent Google has been. The iPhone might not impress you with some photos like the Pixel would (from time to time) but it's consistent - you know what to expect both in photos and videos.
Pixel is just the best in photography… It really changed the game and pushed other companies to do better. Having said that, I wish people would just drop Portrait mode. Just stop using it and just not make it a thing anymore. Fake blur is so tacky.

The best value pixel even. Especially in sale.

This was too close, Whether it's a 400$ or 800$ pixel , old or new phone they look same , shocked how good old pixels are
