How to Remove the XBox Game Bar on Windows 11

- The Xbox Game Bar runs on Windows 11 in the background and is part of a standard Windows 11 installation. It sits there consuming resources whether you use it or not. But what if you don't want it? The option to uninstall it is greyed out and unavailable. Not to us. Let's see how we can remove it.

Thanks bro! I switched to nvidia in game overlay and needed a way to get rid of gamebar for good.
did this and everything worked perfectly so thank you. game bar is such a bad app.
on another note, i found it odd how I couldn't find the game bar app anywhere in my computer EXCEPT for typing it into the windows search. but after running these commands with powershell, its gone from there too. worked smoothly thanks!

@@andriizakrevskyi5335 Enabling it may cause stuttering, even with a decent FPS count in your game, making it feel laggier, and I've experienced the same issue.

I have game bar and all other Xbox related apps uninstalled but I'm still getting game bar plugin updates from the store. how do I stop these? there is nothing installed under installed aps to do with gaming services for MS or Xbox.

Thank you so much. Insane how they try to make it mandatory to keep despite how intrusive it is. It pops up all the time from random things because it thinks everything is a game for me, even web browsers. There's no way to uninstall it normally. I absolutely hate programs like this. Thanks!

Does removing the Game Bar messes up the Indexing? Becuz after removing the gamebar i got a message saying indexing was turned off. Not sure if this happened to you guys?

I'm noticing games started having moments of heavy stutter as well as a notification of windows telling me it's trying to open xbox gamebar. I'm guessing everything is happening because of a windows function so what can I do?

Can i reinstall once ive removed? My game bar is really buggy at the minute but i use it alot? It makes my pc crash and my microphone works for like 10 seconds before it just stops. So i wanna uninstall and reinstall to see if that sorts out the issue.

Hi... Thanks that I deleted my xbox all the fikes thats what I needed. But sir, after this my short cut key, cntrl C is not working. I have tried to reinstall/ update the keyboard file from device manager, but I failed. Please make a video to restore my short cut key command. Although Cntrl X and Cntrl V is working fine. Thanks.

Interesting, but begs the question of why steam/pc only gaming (i.e. no xbox, no ps) requiress any xbox content?
Xbox game bar is not in my installed apps area in the settings, yet its 100% on my PC cause pressing Win + G brings it up. Any ideas? I did the well known gamebarpresence wwritter fix but I doubt thats the reason for it not showing in my installed apps. In my proccess in task manager its just "game bar". Maybe in the latest version of Win 11 some stuff has changed? Will this still work for me?
I would imagine yes it would work but I’m going to take a look into this. Perhaps it’s a new patch, one which I’ll fix 😂
@@TLTechLife Thanks cause I have no way of accessing those settings u got to in ur vid cause it cant be found in installed apps lol. Idk why microsoft insist on forcing this game breaking (literally sometimes) software on us. Dead Space Remake has tons of stuttering issues and I was gonna use DXVK to make it run of Vulkan since that gets rid of the issue but cant do that unless all overlays are off.

Hi Louise, great questions. The Gamebar is obviously an overlay that (in most cases) automatically detects when you are playing a supported game and immediately starts recording your gameplay in the background. Now that does consume resources of course. For example, I use a 4k monitor and play games at 4k, if that overlay runs and starts recording my gameplay at high bitrates that's a lot of wasted processing and disk space (albeit temporary). It could slow your pc down and if you stream or record games, often people prefer to use OBS or Streamlabs or something like that. However the other services could be useful if you are ever logging into the xbox live service, or maybe need to connect a controller to your pc for example . These services are usually set to manual and aren't started unless you use something that needs them, unlike the gamebar which is always there in the background and does consume some resources. So you can remove the others if they really concern you, but you probably don't need to bother with doing that. As for the harm it may cause, well nothing really. If you ever find yourself needing those again you can reinstall them using Windows PowerShell in much the same way. Hope that helps answer your question.

Just did this. Xbox won't open until the gamebar is reinstalled. Not sure if that is a recent change but that is what happened to me.
Good because I use Nvidia's Shadowplay for Recording and Screenshots and don't need unwanted apps like Game Bar from clogging up my other recording device shadowplay.
I'm usually not a Microsoft hater, but gamebar does really suck, having just upgraded to Win11 I came to realize that it is enabled by default with no normal option to disable it, just consuming resources. Thanks for the video :)

Well this method will remove it and prevent it from ever running, are you after a ‘kill the running app’ and let it restart when you reboot option?
And what's the difference between XboxGamingOverlay and XboxGameOverlay?

Hello there. I assume you mean the setting that is found in ‘settings’, ‘accounts’, ‘windows backup’? So if you turn that radio button off it is on when you restart?
yes that annoying setting I don't want it disabled but it's re enabled again after restart the pc I don't know why but its using my network resources my system is windows 11 pro

@@TLTechLife Basically is a message saying that you don't have an app for a such device or "link"... I quote it because my Windows is in spanish, so I'm not sure which exact words are used in the message. If you go to Aplications, then "default apps" you still can see the xbox gambar there... and all the other "links" saying which app will be used.

Thanks for helping me remove this piece of junk. I have been using Windows since version 3.1 and honestly, unlike Microsoft which continues to say that its system is faster and faster, I only notice a system full of rubbish, spyware and supervision which reduces freedom with each version of the user to use their hardware, internet bandwidth and electricity as they wish.

This doesn't work for me on windows 11. Tried the exact command and ran it but doesn't remove game bar
my noob solution, cuz this vid went way too long:
1) open windows explore
2) go to c:windows
3) write xbox into the searchbar
4) delete all folders popping up

FYI Gamebar is a must on dual ccd 3d cached amd cpus, it schedules games to run on the right ccd.

I know... so frustrating to know the answer is in the video but we're busy looking in our task manager to see if game bar is running. I know it's running, that's why I'm watching this video. "No surprises there". No useful information yet either, had to wait until 5 minutes in for that. Thank fuck for the time stamps. Just typed in the one command to delete all xbox crap from my machine, which wasn't posted in the video description, and stopped watching.
I want it but it isn't working, all that comes up is a box so I can record and audio controls. No top bar so can't check fps etc.
I wish you'd just copy and pasted them in the description.
I remember doing this years ago and couldn't remember how. Somehow, windows put it back on my computer, and I found out by accident. I don't need the resources freed up by this, I just don't want it there when I already removed it.
