Very clear and thorough explanation. I went through it and was easily able to get rid of bing, and the copilot icon in the taskbar. BUT, when I attempted to go further....went to "start" and then hit "gp" to cue group edits, this never came up....even if I typed in the full gpedits. It simply said "nothing found." Brilliant sir! More than grateful for this post popping up in first 3 results of my Google search; "how to disable Bing & CoPilot Preview". Though I'd already switched out browser & search engine, I still had microsoft Edge/Bing/CoPilot trying to be invasive & annoying. I'm more than opposed to having things I don't want/choose/need crammed down my throat, & having need to quickly purchase a backup laptop, they made it seem as though I had no choice but to allow them to install everything, before I could switch it all over to another browser & search engine? Hi, I couldn't find gpedit because I use Windows 11 Home, but I was able to find a different method. You just have to open Registry Editor again, and go to the same folder. But this time make a new key called WindowsCopilot, and a new DWORD called TurnOffWindowsCopilot. Same thing as disabling Explorer, so set it to 1 then restart your computer.' Hopefully you see this comment and pin it so that other Windows 11 Home users can see it!
Great video!! Thanks!! I uninstalled Edge all together, after a minor regedit. Afterwards when something would try to launch Edge, widows threw an error saying ie is not supported anymore. LOL. Now I will install Firefox, with the Ghostery extension for worry free web surfing on my terms, not bing, edge, cp, screwgle, or facetwit. Cheers!!
This video is a life saver Because I was struggling to get rid of the Copilot icon from the Windows Search menu and Edge (despite WinKey + C still opening Edge) But I can rest easy with Copilot essentially nuked from my PC, and I have Registry backed up into an external file I can just import on each update, should each update revert certain registry files
Thank you. Somehow, co pilot is still showing on my windows 11 pc. When i click start, and click in the address bar the icon is still there. I followed all the directions. I even followed Bing's directions to remove it.
Thank you , Although I have not had time to do all of it as yet that awful icon which was lurking with intent on the task bar has gone with thanks to you and when I get time I will finish the job, I have liked and subscribed you are a legend official.
It's a real shame that you need the Pro version of Windows to access the Group Policy editor and disable copilot altogether. I know that there are other ways to get around this in the Home Editions but after experiencing the complete borking which was Windows 11 on a latptop for over a year, I don't think that installing third-party hacks would be beneficial for me nor the laptop.
Thanks. You've saved me time from searching why I couldn't access Group Policy Editor. There are ways to get cheap windows keys, it's unfortunate that we even have to do all this nonsense in the first place.
I use to have these same problems there are commands that you can type in to fully enable gpedit.msc (group policies) while still running a home edition of windows, i used these quite frequently rather than just wiping a system and puting pro onto it. Hope this helps.
Followed your great steps. Although i had to enable group policies manually i was still able to enable turing co-pilot off. However, even after reboot, co-pilot came up while using my touchpad mouse. There a "gesture" there i don't know how to remove and it still brings up co-pilot. Thoughts?
An extremely well made video, too bad it is for Win 11. I got Win 10.....unwilling to upgrade because of BS such as this. The little copilot icon is in my search bars and I don't have the "show search highlights" option. I even went to the Group Policy Editor and disabled it there....to no avail.
I'm so sorry, I try to respond to all comments and somehow, I missed yours. You are welcome and I thank you for taking the time out of your day to leave your feedback. Have a fantastic day!
thank you. I am on 7:13 of your video and stuck. I can not find gpedit anywhere. When I search it still brings up Bing to search, but the icon is gone. I am still trying to uninstall copilot
For anyone on Windows 11 Home you wont have access to the "Local Group Policy" without a bit of extra work. A quicker work around that I've found to work with no issues is by going in to the Terminal and Copy/Pasting this line of text; " reg add HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot /v TurnOffWindowsCopilot /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f ". To get to terminal right click the start icon on the task bar and select terminal. after copying and pasting make sure to restart/sign out and sign back in. Hope this one helps!
Bing was removed using instructions from his last video. Windows updated and it came back and is now refusing to leave. Followed instructions but there it remains in my start menu. I don't know if anything has changed since this video was posted. I look forward to a follow up if one's in the cards.
I have 11 Home and can't go the "edit group policies" route, but I found a solution... In the Registry Editor, I added a key: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsCopilot then added a Dword "TurnOffWindowsCopilot" and set it to 1. It worked! Not only on mine, but on my wife's Win10 (which somehow had Copilot installed there). Hope this helps someone.
This actually worked for me after group policies didn't. Now Win+C just opens Bing. I have Home edition and did some hacking to install Group Policy Editor from the existing files (all Windows PCs HAVE the files and can technically run the program) but there's no indication it actually works lol, maybe because I am using Home edition and there's some nonsense permission still blocking edits from having any effect.
I use Windows 11 Home. Removing copilot did not work for me either? I followed everything you said and checked to be sure Windows Copilot is enabled which it is. Any ideas why it's still there?
Thanks for this. Managed to do it. I have also got, as of today, another mystery. On my Windows 11 login screen, the writing on either side of the screen and in the middle under the date, is no long in English but what looks like Japanese! Language in everything else is fine. Fortunately I login with a pin. How do I get English back to that first screen? Any suggestions please.
Hello, I’m actually not in front of a windows pc atm, but off the top of my head I’d guess you’ve accidentally changed your default language. Again off the top of my head I’d say login with your pin and do the following: Select Start > Settings (or press win key and the letter ‘i’> Time & language > Language & region and add back English. Again this is all from memory so those instructions may not be completely accurate, but I’d guess this will somewhat solve your problem.
I'm not sure if MS changed things but after editing the policy and signing out/back in Copilot is still available as an option in Taskbar settings (disabled) and if I hit Win-C it re-installs it then it's back.
What is Crazy is that even though Chrome is my Default Browser, lately when I click a link in an email, Edge will open with the CoPilot logo in the upper right corner - how is this even happening when Chrome is my Browser? I thought I was going to have to uninstall Edge! I will try these steps even though I am not will about editing the Registry!
Simply go to taskbar settings and turn it off if your just looking to get rid of the icon in the taskbar. I don't recommend playing around with regedit unless you really know what you're doing.
Hello thanks for this video was very helpful. I do have a Question, on windows 10 there was the light gray box on the right bottom side (next to calendar & time) on my laptop when I clicked on it all the tabs would hide at the same time or whatever website or app I was on, sine upgrading to windows 11 it has disappeared. Is there a way to bring that back? IM SORRY I DONT KNOW THE NAME OF THAT FEATURE : ((
Hello, I assume you mean that it went to show the desktop? In the latest windows 11 it’s still available but switched off and replaced with the copilot icon. To turn it back on, open settings using Windows+I. Go to personalization, taskbar, taskbar behaviours and choose ‘select the far corner of the taskbar to show desktop’. Now you should see a faint vertical line appear when you put your mouse cursor in the far right. Click it to show desktop, again to return to having the open windows show. You can use ‘Windows+D’ for the same thing. Hope that helps my friend. Have a great day!
This might be of interest, I have recently started using AVG antivirus/malware. Embedded in their controls is a function to display suspect files and .exe What I have found is a plethora of Microsoft .exe apps, running in the background the report also shows the IP address. BUT unfortunately AVG does not provide in depth info on the APP/File, but Internet search shows up the info. BUT, in AVG you have the ability to block these .exe/files from accessing the IP address. So, far the blocking has not disabled Win10.
The biggest problem, i dont want to hide these invasive programs, i want them completely gone. I dont want a single character of code remaining on my computer. Its absolutely rediculous that im forced to have these programs track everything i do.
At 7:00 I did it all but I was just wondering how...for a lack of a better term...how permanent is Copilot/Recall now removed off my system? Once it's been removed/disabled is there a chance that it might just "turn on" or reinstall itself?
Hello, yes that is a very real and very likely possibility. MS are heavily invested in this and as such want you to use it, even if you don’t. So future patches are highly likely to reinstall features you remove. That said if (and more likely when) this happens let me know and if I can find a fix then I will update this video with a new one. To me personally I don’t really mind that it’s there and I rarely use it myself. But I understand people have issues with MS simply bolting in new things you don’t ask for and people wanting more control over their system. Thanks for watching and the great question.
got all the way to the Explorer bit Data collection Can't get past Explorer It Won't let me add a folder under the Data maybe the new key isn't helping. Any idea's woud be appriciated I am fed up with microsoft and go pilot
I followed you direction on disabling copilot, by hitting enable, sign out and sign in. When I log back in, windows + C shows it is still there. I watched your video over and over so I am sure I did every step. Any ideas? Thanks
When I open registry app it will not let me go further. Asks if I want to run app see how. Then I try the link and still does not take me to H information
I did exactly as you showed to disable copilot. In gpedit, the status for "turn off windows copilot" is enabled. i have logged out and back in again but when i press "windows + c" copilot still opens? do you have any idea whats happening?
It should apply after a log off… but if it’s not try and force an update but doing the following…open up a command as admin as running ‘gpupdate /force’ and restart the pc
@TLTechLife windows keep changing settings back, copilot is back on search, also is putting my pc to sleep even if I set it to never and a few extra tricks but for nothing, Netflix not connecting anymore...oh God why did I re-install windows with the belief that it will work better,oh why...crapiest windows ever, thanks microsoft
As a heavy MAC user I’m normally not faced with all these issues. lol. But I’m going to apply these fixes today for a family member that just got a Windows 11 laptop. It’s a Microsoft mess! 😂
Tried to un-install CoPilot. It was installed last night. There was a windows update, which I didn't care to do for 1-2 days. Guess the timer was over, so it installed itself. Anyway, I'm the only user, with Administator access. Is this the same as ROOT access? I tried to un-install CoPilot, but the option is greyed out (unavailable). I know it's still on my drive, I can see the icon. Maybe doing a rollback.

No mention of needing to be on W11 Pro version. W11 Home versions will not have the gpedit section immediately available.
If you cant find local group policy editor, you can find a video that shows you how to make a .BAT file that enables it.
I like to keep Bing, but get rid of copilot. I'm not sure if this will remove both Bing and Copilot, does it remove Bing and Copilot or only Copilot ?
If you only perform the sections listed in the description then you can remove whatever you like.
Thanks a lot for this!
IM SORRY I DONT KNOW THE NAME OF THAT FEATURE :
((
Hello, I assume you mean that it went to show the desktop? In the latest windows 11 it’s still available but switched off and replaced with the copilot icon. To turn it back on, open settings using Windows+I. Go to personalization, taskbar, taskbar behaviours and choose ‘select the far corner of the taskbar to show desktop’. Now you should see a faint vertical line appear when you put your mouse cursor in the far right. Click it to show desktop, again to return to having the open windows show. You can use ‘Windows+D’ for the same thing. Hope that helps my friend. Have a great day!
Thank you so much for making that easy!
✌️😜 Just subscribed as your an awesome instructor brother, Thanks😁 🇭🇲A Blessed Joyful Father's Day to all the Dad's 💒⚔️ God Bless us All 🇺🇸🙏✝️
Thanks very much for the sub and the really great feedback, I appreciate it a lot. Have a fantastic Father’s Day yourself!
what do I do if gpedit or Group doesn't bring up an option for group policy in the search bar?
This might be of interest, I have recently started using AVG antivirus/malware. Embedded in their controls is a function to display suspect files and .exe What I have found is a plethora of Microsoft .exe apps, running in the background the report also shows the IP address. BUT unfortunately AVG does not provide in depth info on the APP/File, but Internet search shows up the info. BUT, in AVG you have the ability to block these .exe/files from accessing the IP address. So, far the blocking has not disabled Win10.
GPEDIT only works if you have win11 pro, how do you remove it from the home version?
Would like to see Get Started removed too.
Thanks mate. Worked a treat.
The biggest problem, i dont want to hide these invasive programs, i want them completely gone. I dont want a single character of code remaining on my computer. Its absolutely rediculous that im forced to have these programs track everything i do.
That's the core of Microsoft profits, collect user data to resell them for marketing purposes to third party ghosths.
@@TheForce_Productions what a load of shitty bull. This is nothing short of invasion of privacy without consent.
I switched to linux as my daily driver. I only use windows (10) for games and photoshop.
At 7:00
I did it all but I was just wondering how...for a lack of a better term...how permanent is Copilot/Recall now removed off my system? Once it's been removed/disabled is there a chance that it might just "turn on" or reinstall itself?
Hello, yes that is a very real and very likely possibility. MS are heavily invested in this and as such want you to use it, even if you don’t. So future patches are highly likely to reinstall features you remove. That said if (and more likely when) this happens let me know and if I can find a fix then I will update this video with a new one. To me personally I don’t really mind that it’s there and I rarely use it myself. But I understand people have issues with MS simply bolting in new things you don’t ask for and people wanting more control over their system. Thanks for watching and the great question.
awesome help cheers...
Glad to have helped. Thanks for watching. Have a great day!
Thank you so much!
changing the registry didnt work fro me brand new clean install window 11 pro still searches from start menu.
Thanks for the how to. I got as far as removing copilot icon. But could not find the GP Editor. No results in Finder.
If you have the "Home Edition", Group Policy Editor isn't there to find....
It would be nice if you included the path you are using on the comment or transcript.
nice, thank you! that worked!
You’re most welcome. Glad to have helped.

I followed you direction on disabling copilot, by hitting enable, sign out and sign in. When I log back in, windows + C shows it is still there. I watched your video over and over so I am sure I did every step. Any ideas? Thanks

for some reason i cannot disable Copilot, I opened gpedit and enabled turning it off and nothing happened its still here, any help?
F Bing and all of Microsoft's spyware. Thanks Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate!
Nooooooo worries. Get rid of that spyware 😂
can you please do one for windows 10? We have co-pilot preview and it messes up the resolution AND it messes up the desktop monitor resolution.
I love you for this thank you!
ty, gpedit doesnt come up on my start when i search it
worked like a charm :) thx,u get a subscription from me sir
Why thank you. So glad it helped you out and thank you for the kind words and the sub. I really appreciate it. Have a terrific day!
Thank you for a great video.
Thx, great advice....
That’s what I’m here for Kevin. Glad you liked the video mate. Thanks for the feedback. Have a great day!
I don't get a GP Edit when i type it in my search
Are you using windows home edition, that may be why.
