Thanks for a timely video popping up in my list. Just bought a new W11 laptop. This video was very helpful and informative. Already found a few new features that I will change. Saved for future reference.
I just got a new PC laptop, after years using a Chromebook and this video was a very good refresher as well as tutorial to new features as well as old. Thanks
Perfect explanation, but, always make a system backup of Windows first, no matter what version of Windows that is, if it goes wrong you will be fully online again within fifteen minutes, or you are the fool who has to install it all over again !!
You’d be surprised. Many people are getting Windows 11 for their very first windows experience, but the video was really designed for people who finally upgraded or got a new machine and Windows 11 can be a lot.
Thank you so much.. I'm a novice and gained so much information from this post.. I have a new laptop with a finger pad and touch screen, so this gave me a lot of insight in how to navigate Windows 11 👍👍👍
Good video. I'm surprised you didn't mention how to pin folders for Quick access in File Explorer. It's very handy for folders that are important/convenient, especially those that are a hassle to navigate to or you forget exactly where they reside.
Another one: how to turn off the default group by. I like the old way of seeing all the files together and clicking on the column headings to change sort options. I know how to turn off group by, but maybe others would like to know.
Microsoft Windows doesn't come with an owner's manual anymore. Man. I remember the big, honking books that came with MS-DOS and Windows 3.1. Put them in a bag and you have a weapon 😂
As a suggestion.... And I mean that gently, because I love this channel... a monthly / bi monthly "How to install Windows the right way" issue? I only say that because at 4am this morning I reinstalled Win 10 on a HP Pavilion.... and it was.... soooooooo easy. Compared to the Win 11 I did last week..... which sucked, and took 4 days. If you take this request - don't keep them up - delete as you go. Just a "current" "how to install windows" guide. My personal experience is crappy - I know enough to get in trouble, then have to look to the net for help. But thats how we learn, eh? 20 years ago I was an IT manager... not any more!!!! A simple step by step - preferably that bypasses MS Login.... yeah... and keep it updated. You're a trusted source. Could be a regular thing for you.
I actually found Windows 8 to be quite annoying. I think it was designed for the left and right swiping generation, which I was not. I miss Windows 7 and Windows XP. At least they were stable.
Great introduction. I wish you had published this earlier, when I bought my new computer. One feature you didn't mention is the grouping of up to 12 pinned apps and folders in the start menu, similar to the feature in iOS.
I'm a beginner I enjoy learning from you two suggestions from a beginner talk slower, and don't give the or at the same time when you're explaining the first example perhaps you can make a separate section for or you can do this or you can do that. I think that would help the beginner learner like myself. I find it more difficult when there's too many choices
Fair. Thanks for the feedback. I'm working on talking slower - there's a fine line between talking at "ultra-novice" level and "normal user" level, usually will add 10-20 minutes and that's a lot to ask of most viewers. I also get "don't talk so slow", so I really can't win lol
Have a video recommendation. I tried searching through you vids but couldn't find it ... at least not in one place anyway. How about a video that shows you exactly what you need to do to setup up a newly bought pc/laptop? Starting right with the local login rather than microsoft login (one of your vids). When should you install your virus program ... before or after backing up and creating a reocovery? What installed programs should (could) be deleted? What should be addded (your vid ... The LAST flash drive you will ever need). Think this might make for an interesting vid and would definitely help lots of people. I'm hunting for a new laptop so thought of this idea when today's new video popped up on my feed. :)
Made one a while back for Windows 11 (How to setup Windows 11 - SUPER EASY! ruclips.net/video/e6x1o2C22pQ/видео.html) Software installs are tricky. What works for me isn't necessarily best for you. And the local login bypass doesn't always work on every revision of Windows 11. If I had included that, I'd be getting hundreds of comments saying "doesn't work". Instead, I did make a video "9 settings you should change" that specifically deals with switching to a local account and how to do it. Hope this helps! 👍
Excellent information! 👍😎 Knock on wood, I haven't had a blue screen yet in Win 11 caused by even a crashed application. Wow .. that's a metric ton of chapter marks. 😮 Windows 11 never bothered me and I was an early adopter due to my Intel 12th and 13th Gen CPUs. About the only thing that really concerning me with Windows 10 / 11 is Microsoft's, telemetry and effectively a keylogger which was the first thing I disabled!!! Honestly, I prefer the taskbar in the middle because I use ultrawide monitors.
I started getting into computers when Windows 3.0 was the new big thing! Each version after that continued to get worse... I stopped at Windows 7! My desktop died this week after 15 years. I just bought a laptop with Windows 11 home edition. I'll figure it out I'm sure. I'm old and ornery so, we'll see!
Bravo on the close-ups of the screen I've watched many of the other videos and they don't show a close up of the screen. And when they do it's zooming in and blurry. I'm a visual learner I find it so difficult to understand all the different layers that is choices represent on the screen
Thank you for noticing! I always try to zoom in close, whether it's an Excel tutorial or some setting in Windows. I have to assume everyone is watching on mobile and the easier it is to see for the viewer, the happier they are. Plus, I'm half blind so if I can't see it during editing, I expand the screen LOL
Another trick you might want to try to scale objects like desktop icons and some other screen features within apps, press control and use a mouse wheel. It doesn't seem to work without a mouse, using the arrow keys or a touchpad, i wonder what else is there that is mouse reliant
Thanks for the video I watched every minute. One little thing I wish I could move my taskbar to the left side of the display on my HP pavilion laptop windows 11
To activate the clipboard history shortcut, you can do the following: Select Start Select Settings Select System Select Clipboard Turn on the toggle under Clipboard history
My wife, a teacher, bought a new laptop with Windows 11, and that's how I ended up here. I've been on Linux since about 2000, MX Linux for the past few years. Download it and you'll never look back. My machine dual boots into Windows 10, but I never use it.
I'm working on several videos now, one is how to create a dual boot to test Linux, and the other is "can a normal Windows user learn to use Linux". Stay tuned ;)
@@AskYourComputerGuy Over the years, I've used several Linux distributions. The one I'd recommend is MX Linux. It's easier to use than Windows and, besides the manual, has an MX Tour which gives one two or three minute bites of information with images about the various aspects of the distro. Also, being Debian-based, the repository has over 50,000 free packages. Windows wants to think for one and gets in the way. Linux puts one in the driving seat--you think and tell it what to do. The only reason everybody is not using Linux is because very few people are really interested in computers. Hard to understand, isn't it? I build them, have a degree in IT and create web applications.
@@AskYourComputerGuy There are many comparisons between the two, even on RUclips. Here's one: ruclips.net/video/GewxByjHu5I/видео.html MX comes in an AHS (advanced hardware support) form for new hardware. It also has the standard form. Why not give them both a go and live with them for a while?
I found it all very interesting but particularly like the last one for the registry, I will have to wait until I am more confident that I won't mess up before I risk trying it but I have found that feature VERY annoying.
Hi Scott, I`m still using Win 10 and was really worried about upgrading to Win 11 as I`d heard it was vastly different to 10, so I was going to hang on until 2025 when I had to do it, but your great video has shown me that I needn't be worried, I`d happily cope with it. One question though is will it still work with a program called Classic Start which replaces the start menu and gives you an old school start menu? I really would like to keep this if at all possible, in fact if the answer is no it wont work with that, I`d be back to hanging on until 2025! Cheers from the UK.
I'm aware of classic start. Started using it with Windows 8. Very popular, I'd imagine they've ported it over for W11, but I'd check the website to be sure 👍
@@AskYourComputerGuy Cheers Scott and thank you for taking the time out to answer me. I've now got my PC and been working with Win 11 for about 3 weeks now, its OKish but so many things about it are driving me nuts, like the simple thing of being able to drag the Taskbar up to increase its size to accommodate more icons. The missing right contextual menu, whereby to get to delete you now have to click through another menu to get back to the one with delete on it. Why cant MS just improve new OS`s and leave the good things going. If it aint broke dont fix it! LOL
Hey can you make a complete idiots guide to processors and everything about it. What are different terms, which is best for you etc. It is really confusing 😅. Love your videos ❤.
Thanks for the idea! Processors used to be simple, there was about 6 to choose from. Now there are hundreds. Honestly I would defer to either @ChrisTitusTech or @LinusTechTips. My knowledge of one CPU over another is extremely limited, as that's not really my forte'. I do appreciate the support, sincerely 💪
@@AskYourComputerGuy i love this channel. And really appreciate the fact that you personally reply every comment. Every video i learn something new. Thanks for suggestions. 😊
@Freethinker-vj4ut well not EVERY comment LOL...it's getting harder and harder when there is 150-400 comments a day now. But I at least try to focus on those that enjoy my videos and appreciate the work involved, and actually get something out of them. Thanks my friend 💪
I kept saying no to update to Windows 11 but just yesterday it said update and close down so I did and oh no I now have Windows 11 on it has gone and done it on its own! Hence finding your video as I couldn't even figure out how to turn off the machine as icon disappeared from view. Oh well will go look and see your video on how to wind it back to Windows 10 😳 But this video is a real help if decide to try it for a while so many thanks.
I was not aware that you can hide/view the desktop icons so easily, which can be handy for someone who has a very messy desktop but like things to look neat and tidy. I am just wondering if it is possible to make your own custom hotkey shortcut to flick between the two? And if it is maybe you could make a video on how to create your own custom hotkey shortcuts.
This should work for both Windows 10/11: How to Create Event Viewer Shortcut on Windows 10 Right-click the blank area of computer desktop to click New -> Shortcut. Type %windir%\system32\eventvwr. msc in Create Shortcut window, and click Next. Type Event Viewer as the name of the shortcut, and click Finish to create Event Viewer Shortcut on Windows 10.
Thanks for the videos! I know they are alot of work but it is most appreciated. All the tips were great but I especially appreciated the right click menu. Not a big fan of the "new" way of doing things.
Thanks, I have a Windows 10 Pro, that I changed over to Windows 11 Pro, had problems now back on Windows 10 Pro. (Fresh reinstall). I didn't like how File Explorer was working, but now may go back to 11. Also, couldn't get out of the Microsoft account just so I could stay on local. Also, built a PC for my son who says he wants to stay on Windows 10, but will send him this link, maybe he'll change his mind.
Thanks for this, I've only been on W10 for a year and am not sure whether to take the leap and go to W11...I use the PC (13th gen Intel) a lot for Zwift and indoor training and seems like all the advice from forums and those with some knowledge is stick with W10 as they don't play nice with W11... It's gonna get the usual cut off point though for support in the next few years so will have to deal with it sooner or later....
Can you create a restore point and disable system restore? How does that work anyway? Does it periodically write onto your drive? If so wouldn't that just harm your SSD over time?
You can't create a restore point if it's not enabled. Windows automatically writes restore points (when enabled) before any significant changes or app installs. And no it doesn't harm your SSD any more than creating a document would
Hi ! Do you have a shop or office I could go to set up my new laptop the way you may suggest for my easy use.??...i find it difficult the way windows 11 is programmed now.
Look under device manager, display adapters. You should see a touch screen option there. Sometimes it gets disabled if the display driver isn't correct, which can be downloaded from your manufacturer
So-o-o helpful - covers everything I need to know about W!!. However! I'll be sticking with Windows 10 until Microsoft won't let me any more. Just wondering how much more memory 11 chews up compared with 10. Thanks.
Hey Scott, first I want to thank you for all f your great info. I'm looking for a review you recently did on a Windows laptop. I still have a week to decide but the 'Ohio sales tax holiday July 30-Aug 8' Is one of the primary factors along with price less than $500 other than features and functionality of the laptop itself. I purchased my current used laptop about 18 months ago and it's starting to do crazy things; I can't type a sentence without requirement to check my typing. It started with the B key and now several other letters are beginning to not respond unless I go back and type it again.
@@AskYourComputerGuy TY Bro! I found it!!! The AceMagic $300 laptop is the one in question. I watched your review on that again and neither of you 'rathers' matter much to me. I'll be using it for genealogy research. It's what I do... Bud. I'll be purchasing using your A'zon link on Tuesday, hopefully A'zon won't run out before then. So BTW, as I typed a cc # on an order form After the comment above, an epiphany helped me question, "is it Possible that my laptop has 'a keylogger'?" My Avast Antivirus is current.
You could enable parental controls in their Microsoft account. Or you could create an administrator account for you and a standard user account for the kids
Unfortuantely Windows 11 comes installed with bloatware pinned to the start menu, so right click and select unpin or remove the ones you don't want. Be care because some are click to install. These apps are not installed, just waiting to be installed when you click the icon on the start menu

I am wondering if I could give you three or four "Thumbs-up " for doing this video. It was great! THANKS!
Thank you so much! I appreciate that
Expecting a new W11 machine in a couple days and I'm doing a little preparing. Excellent Video.
Excellent, glad I could help 👍
All I want to do is to be able to print with my new smart printer! I dislike window 11 so much, it makes me sick! I loved windows 7 easy to,use!
Agreed! I miss Windows 7 every day 🥲
I love n worked on win 4. That was the best. U can do anything.
Thanks for a timely video popping up in my list. Just bought a new W11 laptop. This video was very helpful and informative.
Already found a few new features that I will change. Saved for future reference.
Excellent! Glad you enjoyed it
I just got a new PC laptop, after years using a Chromebook and this video was a very good refresher as well as tutorial to new features as well as old. Thanks
You're welcome! ❤️
Perfect explanation, but, always make a system backup of Windows first, no matter what version of Windows that is, if it goes wrong you will be fully online again within fifteen minutes, or you are the fool who has to install it all over again !!
Not knowing how to use Windows is astonishing
You’d be surprised. Many people are getting Windows 11 for their very first windows experience, but the video was really designed for people who finally upgraded or got a new machine and Windows 11 can be a lot.
Thank you so much.. I'm a novice and gained so much information from this post.. I have a new laptop with a finger pad and touch screen, so this gave me a lot of insight in how to navigate Windows 11 👍👍👍
Awesome! So glad to hear that! 💪
Great tip! I'll add it to a future "make Windows simple" upcoming video!
Thanks.....going from my old computer Win 8 to Win 11. I can use all your guidance.
I'm here for ya 👍
💪
You spoke so fast that I think I need a pre idiot guide. You gave about 80 tips and for a beginner, it was just confusing
Sorry. Lots of stuff to cover. You can always slow down the speed or rewind 👍
Excellent video! Thank you so much this training and keep up you good work.
Thank you, my friend 💪
i do miss the Windows 8.1 era. so much simple and modern at the same time.
I actually found Windows 8 to be quite annoying. I think it was designed for the left and right swiping generation, which I was not. I miss Windows 7 and Windows XP. At least they were stable.
how about Vista?
@Galaxy.Windows I don't miss Vista one bit 😂
why
Great introduction. I wish you had published this earlier, when I bought my new computer.
One feature you didn't mention is the grouping of up to 12 pinned apps and folders in the start menu, similar to the feature in iOS.
I'm sure I missed more than just that one, but thanks for pointing it out. Glad you enjoyed the video 💪
Great instructional video. I love the waterfall screen you have on your desktop. Can I ask you where I could obtain it?
Been a while. Will have to go back and see if I can find it. Probably after a search for "HD wallpaper", which is my norm
I like Windows 11. Anyone who likes Computers,Laptops, understands it won't dislike Windows 11.
👍
Very clear and concise! I learned so much, thank you, and I subscribed!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it 👍
I can't believe that i am learning from someone at the age of my grandpa
On one hand he has trouble while calling and then you
Amazing
Made one a while back for Windows 11 (How to setup Windows 11 - SUPER EASY!
ruclips.net/video/e6x1o2C22pQ/видео.html)
Software installs are tricky. 👍
thank you so much. You are the first one that I could follow along with. I saved to video to refer back as needed.
Excellent!
Thank you so much for putting together this tutorial!!! It was very helpful .......... I book marked it :)
Glad it was helpful!
Taskbar in the middle was growing on me, before I switched back to Windows 10 👍
Plus, I'm half blind so if I can't see it during editing, I expand the screen LOL
so I'm going from Windows 7 to Windows 11 as my desktop is from 2012 and I'm running out of memory. Hopefully this video will be of benefit to me.
I hope so as well!
Another trick you might want to try to scale objects like desktop icons and some other screen features within apps, press control and use a mouse wheel. It doesn't seem to work without a mouse, using the arrow keys or a touchpad, i wonder what else is there that is mouse reliant
👍
Thanks for the video I watched every minute. One little thing I wish I could move my taskbar to the left side of the display on my HP pavilion laptop windows 11
This has been so helpful, thank you so much. 👍
My pleasure 💪
Love your videos! They are very helpful.
Glad you like them!
Thanks for the tips I havnt had a computer for several years and just bought a new one so to jump straight into windows 11 was very confusing.
That's exactly why I made this video! You're not alone. Hope you got some good tips 👍
Brilliant video. Loved your repairing hard disk errors as well. Thank you. Please could you suggest a powerful pc air blower yo clean dust please?
This is the one I use (as seen on my shelves behind me). It's an absolute beast and is powerful!

@AskYourComputerGuy thank you very much Sir.
@@AskYourComputerGuy Thank you so much for your prompt kind reply. I'm based in the UK and can't get the link to work.
Click the Amazon link and search for "wincool air duster" 👍
@AskYourComputerGuy Ah, thank you again. Found it and ordered. Much appreciated Sir.
great video for visiting when you forgot where to find or how to do something, thanx
Thank you 💪
😎 very well structured tipps. Is there any way to control the win+v menu via keyboard instead of mouse?
To activate the clipboard history shortcut, you can do the following:
Select Start
Select Settings
Select System
Select Clipboard
Turn on the toggle under Clipboard history
@@AskYourComputerGuy 😎 my question was about dealing after initializing the clipboard history ☹️
@Kammreiter sorry, can't speak to that
@@AskYourComputerGuy ☹️ ms has crippled the usability with clipboard history, and that is a big shame. But what to expect…
@Kammreiter wasn't aware of that. There are other apps out there that allow you to manage multiple clipboard copies though 👍

👍
From the beginning of this video to the end of this video you have received 55 subscribers! 😊😊❤❤
LOL I don't even pay attention usually until after the edit is done. Thanks for pointing it out 😂💪👍❤️
@@AskYourComputerGuy You're welcome!

@grasonicus I've heard of that distro. I was leaning towards Mint for "Windows-like" simplicity. Your thoughts on one vs the other?
@@AskYourComputerGuy There are many comparisons between the two, even on RUclips. Here's one: ruclips.net/video/GewxByjHu5I/видео.html MX comes in an AHS (advanced hardware support) form for new hardware. It also has the standard form.
Why not give them both a go and live with them for a while?
@grasonicus I'll check it out 👍
What is with Microsoft always messing with the Start Button? Leave it alone
I found it all very interesting but particularly like the last one for the registry, I will have to wait until I am more confident that I won't mess up before I risk trying it but I have found that feature VERY annoying.
Agreed! Glad you found the video useful 👍
LOL
@stevejarvis186 agreed!
Thanks my friend 💪
great tutorial I have come from an Apple background so I have found this very helpful. Thank you.
Glad to help! Thanks :)
is it safe to set restore points when dual booting with Linux? Good and clear tutorial BTW, thanks!
absolutely, and great question!
You have 10 days to roll back to Windows 10. After that, you have to do a full factory recovery to get Windows 10 back
I had to play the video at 0.75 speed to slow down talking. Thanks for the video! so I can catch the words carefully 😅
I probably sound like a normal human at 3/4 speed 😂💪👍
I was not aware that you can hide/view the desktop icons so easily, which can be handy for someone who has a very messy desktop but like things to look neat and tidy. I am just wondering if it is possible to make your own custom hotkey shortcut to flick between the two? And if it is maybe you could make a video on how to create your own custom hotkey shortcuts.
Super helpfull video,, Thank you!! One question.. Can you make a shortcut to event view on your desk top?
This should work for both Windows 10/11:
How to Create Event Viewer Shortcut on Windows 10
Right-click the blank area of computer desktop to click New -> Shortcut.
Type %windir%\system32\eventvwr. msc in Create Shortcut window, and click Next.
Type Event Viewer as the name of the shortcut, and click Finish to create Event Viewer Shortcut on Windows 10.
@@AskYourComputerGuy thank you!!!!
@USNVA-yn6cp you got it 👍
ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF THIS ... THANKS SO MUCH
I'm super happy to hear that!
Thanks for the videos! I know they are alot of work but it is most appreciated. All the tips were great but I especially appreciated the right click menu. Not a big fan of the "new" way of doing things.
Glad you like them!
Glad I could help! I too would say stick with W10. Got a video coming out soon on exactly why and how to migrate back to W10. Thx for the comment 👍
And no it doesn't harm your SSD any more than creating a document would
Excellent and thorough. Easy to understand.
Thank you, my friend 💪
Restored the 'proper' context menu! Thanks.
You're welcome!
WOW, I need this, but it is tough going. A transcript would be a big big help.
Turn on closed captioning 👍
Hi ! Do you have a shop or office I could go to set up my new laptop the way you may suggest for my easy use.??...i find it difficult the way windows 11 is programmed now.

My computer was to be touch screen why is it not working or how do I tell if I don't have it Help Please?

I did a review on an MSI gaming laptop and one on an AceMagic $300 laptop. Which one and I'll point you to it
@@AskYourComputerGuy TY Bro!
@darlenesye1609 highly unlikely. I'd run a boot scan to be sure, or at least put your mind at ease
A lot of things can be tweaked by a program called "Winareo Tweaker," especially the context menu.
Yep! One of my upcoming videos! 👍
You are outstanding Sir!!! Awesome channel!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, my friend! ❤️👍💪
I purchased a used one with Window 10 . To give my child. For school. How do I keep the main user in control.
Agreed - good tip, thanks!
@AskYourComputerGuy hello I have a question with prior video. the cloner tool which you described and with the link! the cloning process is done first by removing old disk hard drive and putting into the cloning device then installing your new digital hard drive into Cloning device to rewrite new drive? Say for my oldToshiba satellite laptop? And another excellent video!!
Easiest solution is put new drive in cloner, run the software from your existing pc. When done, swap drives out and you're done 👍
@AskYourComputerGuy now for a computer beginner! The program you referred to runs a cloning device from where? And as always thank you far all your amazing advice and directions helping out a old timer!
I think you're referring to Macrium Reflect 8.41?
@AskYourComputerGuy no for the SABRENT USB C Docking Station for M.2 PCIe/NVMe and SATA 2.5/3.5 Inch SSD & HDD with Offline Cloning (DS-UNHC)
That you showed in one of your videos! I have one order threw your link! From 4 weeks ago. Link here. ruclips.net/video/-89EcTjzl4M/видео.htmlsi=Ga11w5bcS0jKUWbo. always video
@dennissmith1469 oh I see. With the cloner, you can do it the way I suggested or do the clone externally after removing your existing drive. Both work fine, I just prefer watching progress on the PC screen 👍
