You didnt mention what needs to be submitted when applying through the mail. Can I get the form at the Post Office and send two passport photos along with it? Do the photos need to be signed? Does DVLA check addresses within the past 3 years. I did move a few times but it was temporary and not enough to change my address on my licence. Thank You.

I have a question and was unable to find answer but you may help.
I've got a UK driving licence A,B,C,E.
Licence valid for 5 years, can you still drive a car after 5years until 10, when normally a B should expire?
Or is there a way to renew the driving licence to have it for 10 years (as don't use C,E at the moment) but in case I would want them ,just to renew them when needed.
In Spain for example, on the same driving licence C,E are valid 5 year, and B is 10 years.
Any help would be appreciated.

Nice video Josh, thanks so much. Im in italy, i was just stopped by the Police here, Im 63, i didnt know my licence was out of date by 2 days. They confiscated my licence and fined me 3500 pounds payable within 5 days... horror story mate. Police told me it was retaliation for Brexit. Ive got to pay it, or it increases to 5500 pounds. PLEASE warn people there, this is a fkg nightmare.

Have you looked into contacting a solicitor Norma? For thay sort of money it may be well worth doing. I know I would in your shoes
@@JoshRamwell Theres no way out. I just had confirmation from the Police. I got to pay it. Ive been resident here Oficially for over a year, they tell me i should have changed my licence within that year, but i couldnt because no doctors were available to give me a health certificate due to the virus. Tell you subs not to ever come here without 1000% paperwork correct. Thanks Josh.

Hi Ajay, the form you fill in will tell you if you need a photo. If it doesn't mention it then you won't. If it says supply. A photo then you will.
when renewing my license on line, what about up dating my photos and if I have to send them?
I need to change my surname and an up to date photo how do I do that?
I haven't got a reminder but still got another month but ordered a form anyway. I think if it doesn't come within the time stated I will see about going to the PO. 5-7 days the form should come but with Covid who knows.

@@JoshRamwell Easier than I thought and didn't need the form and the new license came quite quick. Just need to go to a PO that supports DVLA renewal (Photobooth).

Didn't work for me. Put in all my details, driving licence number and passport number etc and it came up with that it couldn't verify my identity.

Hi, my brother tried to renew hi licence yesterday but after the passport section it said that Dvla couldn't check his identity. Then i said to try using my details, open a new application but after the passport section i had the message that my uk passport must be valid :)) i had my passport this February. i this Dvla website doesn't work properly so we went to post office and was simple to apply without completing any forms,only a photo and payment.

Same issue - rang DVLA, the new style passports (blue) don’t have a scanned copy of your signature and you have to sign the passport yourself when you receive it so this is why it fails when you try to apply using your passport as ID.

Hi, when I moved to the UK I exchanged my Italian driving license with the UK(at the time it was European )license. Now I am in Italy stuck because of the covid and cannot renew my license on line because I do not have the English passport yet. If my license expired and I am not in Uk how can I solve this problem ? Dvla doesn't answer, nor the chat or my e-mails. Do I have extra time to renew my license after the expiration date without losing the license ? Thank you x
Hey Jessi I'm really sorry I can't see a solution to this until you are back in the UK or you get you're passport so you can renew online. There was an 11 month extension if it ran out upto or before December 2020 during the pandemic. Sorry I couldn't be of more help😢

Morning Azman. Not renewing you're licence shouldn't effect anything except you cannot legally drive as you're tax and insurance will not be valid. You cna however renew the licence at any point. You may just have to go into a post office or send off for a form if the online method does not work.
@@JoshRamwell thank you, I have had some health problems and have literally just read your messages feel good now and was worrying is have to take my test again because I didn't renew my licence and still haven't. So could you just confirm, I've done nothing wrong except not re-newing my licence so... I do not have to take my test again??? I can simply re-new? Sorry for asking again but since I've got better health and the 'ok' from Dr's just a couple days ago I'm excited to be driving. I'm so worried I'll have to take test again because didn't re-new. @@JoshRamwell No Just had the letter from DVLA Cannot renew as over 75 on line and retain my licence for my motor home plated at 5200kg.
Hey Roger, so the good news is I found some info, the bad news is it seems to be hard work. To retain C1 and D1 entitlements over 70 you will need to apply using Form D2 if you wish to retain C1 & D1.
However these forms cannot be found online and must be collected from certain post offices. You can search which ones online although you may have to drive a way. You will also have to jump through a number of hoops such as a medical costing £50+ every so often and during covid this could be difficult. Let me know if any of this helps or you need more info.

Hey Balkar, that's annoying I wonder why they have not sent you one out? Have you still got the same address as the one on your licence? Perhaps its due to Covid or they have made a mistake somewhere, it wouldn't be the first. Best thing to do is either just apply for a new one via the post office if you do not have the required information for the online application. Alternatively you can give DVLA a call and ask them what the situation is. Hope this helps.
@@JoshRamwell I have emailed the DVLA, but yet to receive a response. Couldn't get through on the phone multiple times.
My address hasn't changed.
The Post Office said I need to bring in the reminder to renew with them.
Hopefully, I get it sorted soon.

@@JoshRamwell Yeah I got it sorted. I had an email response from the DVLA a day after my Post Office visit & they said I could indeed renew it at a Post Office with just my current photocard license without the reminder.
I guess the Post Office worker couldn't be arsed that day I asked them. Went to another branch & got the application sorted.

Az Man you have passed your driving test already so no need to take the provisional again. Just renew your licence before you get behind the wheel again that’s all.

Hey mate I'm sorry for the delay. Have you sorted this yet? If it was me I would first of all ring dvla and check what the situation is with them. Tell them the details are not being recognised. They won't fine you as they have no proof that your are still driving. You should be able to apply via the post office method.

I have an old paper type liscence. I will need to renew it in Feb 22 as I will be 70.Can this be done online.I have a valid passport .....do I need to send a photo to DVLA ....and if so how .It looks simple to do renew online but since I have an old analogue paper liscence nothing is mentioned about this.I am reluctant to do online at moment until I have a clearer idea of this anomaly.

Please help me, someone! I sent off for my renewal licence early July this year and I am still waiting! I am getting so frustrated as I haven't been able to go shopping or do anything without the car. It's my son's mobility car and I always have to take him with me. My licence ran out last August! Since then I have tried to contact the DVLA, in every which way but to no avail. I am getting so upset now! I am a lone carer and we desperately need his car to get about. The DVLA have sent me a red reminder! I now don't understand what's going on at all. I applied at the post office and sent it by recorded delivery, so they should have got it. The next thing is, on one form it says to make payable to the DVLA, the other one says to make payable to the post office! I could scream my head off right now! Please, has anyone got any advice?
Best advice i can give is to continue trying to phone DVLA every morning and afternoon until you get through to someone. Try not worry to much as you have at least sent it recorded delivery so you do have evidence that you have done your part. You are rather stuck though until you speak to someone at DVLA.

Yes you need to put your new address otherwise it will arrive at your old address along with any other important info.
You forgot to mention that all licenses issued up until a certain date last year automatically are valid for another 11 months, this also in agreement with the EU.
I have a lorry license, which was transcribed from a German license, so I never actually did a UK license and don't know anything about it. Now I am on my extended 11 months and technically after 5 years already, they wrote in to inform me I have to renew. It seems to me I have to take a driving test and a medical for the lorry license? I never actually drive lorries, the German army made me do the license 30 years ago... so if there is hassle involved like a medical, eye sight test etc, I would actually prefer to just drop the lorry license and stick with the "regular" one for cars... I guess I would have to do it by post, as I do not have a UK passport (but right to stay in the UK). How about that? :)

Right .. Looks like D2 & D4 Medical & Eye Test. Not certain as to this goes with the Application for renewal that was sent by DVLA that I received on Saturday. Historically is was with a D47P when I held a HGV 1 Licence ... so the question is do I send the D2 & D4 forms with received D46P or ? Thank you. Roger
If they have only requested the d46p then it should be fine. But does it not say anything about what extras you need to keep entitlements? Have you tried ringing dvla?
