I am learning with your videos and apart from that it helps me to understand a little the truck that I have that you recommend me to completely change the engine and transmission OR keep the engine and just change the transmission.
I get old big trucks are easy to work on because of shear space and availability of parts but was not expecting this sort of straight forwardness. Only question I had was since you had to move the entire tranny mount 2 inches towards the rear. How did you get away with using the same length driveshaft?
The truck that I have has an excellent engine, but the same thing happens to me as you explain in the video where you say that the truck has a lot of rpm and only with three gears that I have to change the transmission to a faster transmission or change All engine and transmission.
Hello, how are you, I greet you, I have a question, I have the same truck as yours, the same color, but mine is 89, it has a 5.2 engine, but it only has 3 speeds, what do you recommend I change the engine and transmission? Or stay with the engine and just put a different transmission in it like you did
I did the 70s to 80s dodge van lower control swap on the front and did an axle flip on the back. Although my rear is a 4 link set up now the axle flip will get you the same amount of drop as the 4 link.
Hey Dillon Cool truck man ! I’ve got 74 D100 I’m working on. Will you tell me what size wheels and tries you have on the front and back if your truck the stance on that thing is perfect! Also thanks for the tip on the Ax15 Tend a mod I’m going to do.thanks f to our country!!
Thank you! I’m running a 295/50/15 with a 10 inch wide wheel and I wanna say it’s got a 4.5 inch back space but don’t quote me because it’s been awhile since I put em on. I actually bought the wheels from a guy that had them on a jeep wrangler lol
@@dillonstrange302 yeah I meant to say externally balanced. Did that affect the way the manual transmission worked. So many people have steered me away from doing 360 to a manual
@@m.w.g4705 it’s no big deal at all, just have to get a 360 flywheel. That way it’s already weighted correctly. I will say that the 360 LA and the 5.9L (360) magnum do have different weighted flywheels so make sure you get the correct one for your engine.
Nice video. I have a 1986 d150 and I want to swap to 5 speed manual transmission is that hard to do it? I have high rpm on hi way probably the tires too small
It’s a bit of a challenge to convert to a 5 speed. If your just looking to get your rpm’s down while on the highway you might look into getting a taller rear end gear.
I’m retired Army good luck and thanx for your service battle.

I have a few questions. Is that a 143t flywheel?? And what clutch are you using?? Is it from a ram 1500 5.9?
Good job man .. should be better for highway driving an less revving an better fuel milage too ! 👍
Oh for sure, it cruises at 70 turning 2600 rpm. Can’t complain about that one bit.
I had a 1996 Dakota ax15 4 cylinder. Always planned an engine swap. But that lil Jeep engine was tank like.

Every single d150 I've owned that had the automatic (727) tranny leaked from the front seal
An inevitable problem with this old trucks haha
You can also use a ar5 from a Colorado/Pontiac solstice, or an r154 from a Supra with that bell housing, really pretty much any aisin 5speed.
Good to know!

so what pilot bearing would you use to put it behind a 318 LA?
Nice truck
What gear ratio in the rear and how does it do?
Noticed in a video your truck spins both the back tires. Did you weld the diff or?
Nope, I swapped a ford 8.8 into it and it had a factory limited slip.
@@dillonstrange302 what’s the gear ratio. I’m thinking about looking for a 3.73
Shouldn’t a 99 Dakota have a NV3500?
Can i ship you a 1983 quarter. And you keep it in the glove box and be like it would be something Washington would probably drive if it was that old
What size of tires you have?
295/50/15
How did you lower your D150 I have an 82 I'm trying to lower

I had one and in all the years i had i swapped 6 transmissions they tend to break specially with the 360
If you have a 360 in it, it should be internally balanced. I was wondering if that gave you problems putting a manual behind it?
Nope 360 are external balance. 318 and I believe 340 were internal.

That I did not know, thank you so much!
What clutch did you use
Just a stock 11 inch clutch

Info on the speed o
Did you have to mod your drive shaft? And what slave set up did you use?
I ended up using a driveshaft from a 5 speed dodge Dakota from the junkyard. I used the factory Dakota hydraulic slave as well
@@dillonstrange302 o ok sweet because looks like my 727 is a bit longer than my ax15
@@tanisjefferies3280 I think your correct on that, I believe the ax 15 is like 2 to 3 inches shorter
@@dillonstrange302 any idea how long your drive shaft is ? I have a long bed is my only issue
@@tanisjefferies3280 I can’t remember, you’ll more then likely have to get a drive shaft built since you have a long bed
Shit I just started the same project it looks cherry 🍒
how did you lower the truck?
Did the van lower control arm swap in the front and did a axle flip with a c notch in the rear.
I also need a 5speed manual
Swap the rear end out find a rear end with a 2.73 ratio with the small tires your not going to reduce your top end rpm
dirt is clutch dust
Why did you change the differential and what is it for?
