The Sigma 18-35 is a ridiculously sharp lens and built like a tank. The only problem is that its Autofocus can be hit or miss. Myself and many other users had a lot of issues with it backfocusing when using the viewfinder, but when using Live View, it was fantastic. Be aware that it may be necessary to buy the Sigma USB Dock to probably fix any focusing issues you may have, so factor in the price of the lens plus the dock when purchasing. Canon 10-18 is an absolutely amazing lens. The Canon 10-22 also exists but is much more expensive but 10-18 is optically superior to it in every way. I have the 24mm 2.8 and it almost never leaves my camera. Best $150 you can spend. I used to have the 50mm 1.4 and while it still holds up today, the 50mm 1.8 is a better lens overall with the exception of having a slightly smaller f stop. I found the 1.4 was too soft for my liking wide open. Some people may like depending on the type of photos or footage you want but, myself, I like my images to be very sharp. Just letting you know my experiences with the ones I've tried and had.
Wow.. with that much information as written above, you could have a whole video for 80D lenses.. Just curious, what is ur complete arsenal of lenses for Canon 80D ?? I m planning to buy 80D in a day or two..
One of my favorite lenses for my 80D is definitely the 50mm I do almost everything with it from headshots to filming it's just super crisp and the autofocus is amazing
As a beginner and enthusiast starting with videography I have to say thank you :) Made things a lot easier since I was doing research before my purchase between 6d II and 80d. Now I know I can go with an 80d with kit 18-135 and mos def I'll try to get the canon 10 -18..... it just looks like the perfect combo :) Still on my entry level canon 1000d with 50mm 2.8 stm, but can't wait to start videos and storytelling in general. Great insta page too!!! Grazie maestro!
50mm is my choice always as 1. it has a wider aperture it gives sharp edges of the subject 2. for APSc cameras it's like zoom upto 52mm aprox 3. 50mm is not a long focal length too. Overall, it'a an allrounder.
The 24mm 2.8 lens is an EF-S lens and is actually only suitable for Crop cameras. This should be taken into account when planing a change to full format. The lens is, of course, extremely good for the price!
I have the Sigma 18-35, the Canon 10-18 and I agree with you on those. I mostly use the Sigma in low light. In good light I often prefer the 18-55 STM kit lens, because it's smaller and lighter and has longer reach as well as IS. I also have the Canon 50 1.8 STM. I already had the original 50 1.8 from 1987 (which is optically identical to the mrk ii that everybody else has, but with metal mount and focus window), but I never really liked it. So I bought the new STM version, and it's just SO much better. Most people seem to think that too is optically the same, but it's not. It's sharper (at 1.8 it's MUCH sharper!), and it focuses much closer. I certainly wouldn't trade it for Canon's ancient 50 1.4!
Getting those lines straight can be done by centering the camera/tripod so the "bowl" of the fish eye is central to the line in the frame. In this case the camera is too high to centre the lines, but you'd be sitting down to do the review. This data is more so for architectural photography but is helpful no matter what one is doing.
I've used the Canon 24mm f2.8 lens and the Canon 50mm f1.4 lens for video and photo work and they haven't failed me yet. i love the 24 for for making me play around with more ideas for creative shots and the 50mm give me the ability to get more of a cinematic look to it and give that great feeling for when I film at night in low light situastions
Thank you for such a great video. I just ordered the 80d with the 18-135 kit lens and it will be here on Friday. My favorite lens is the Sigma 18-35mm because of the sharpness. I will say however that all the lenses you deemed have their own advantages and I do like all five of them. In the end, I'm with you on the Sigma being number one. than you again for a great video, I found to be most helpful for the videos that I will me shooting.
i have the EFS 18-55 which came with the camera if you could aford one of the 5 shown to be used mostly for video which one would you go for ? your number 2 ? thanks great video Tony
This video was so helpful! I'm getting the canon 80D and didn't know what lens I should go with, I was leaning towards the 18-135mm lens but this made me make the jump to get it! Great video + U got a new subscriber :)
What a great video! I'm wondering if you could help me: I found a used stigma lens for great price online that is semi used. The thing is, it's for a Nikon camera and I have a canon 80d. The seller is including an adapter that will work for my camera. But will this work properly with the adapter? Meaning, will i lose any quality? Do you recommend i stick to original lens for canon 80d or a Nikon lens will be fine? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.
GREAT POST! While I have all of the lenses you mention EXCEPT THE SIGMA, I did get the Canon 18-135 with my 80D. I have tons of other expensive Canon lenses as well, and others such as the Tamron 24-70 and the Sigma 50mm "art" lens. I too thought the new 18-135 would be a cheap, moderate performing kit lens. I was very wrong, and astonished at its performance. I don't know of a better lens for general photos and video than the 18-135 for even $750 more. Even on a tripod inside, I much prefer using the lighter and well performing 18-135 over a Canon 70-200 f2.8 or even the f4 version. The 18-135, for me, is more than: sharp enough, quiet enough, light enough and built well enough to be the winner, by far, in its price range.
Can you comment on any noise issues when shooting video with this lens? I just ordered it as a kit with the 80D and kept second guessing myself. My first order several year ago with a kit lens was a disaster for video an ended up sending it back - though that was a notch below STM (I don't even remember now - I believe it was just standard kit on a t3 or t4 so fairly old) - I didn't know what I was buying and it didn't work out. I am crossing my fingers this one can work for me for video until I can invest in another.
Thanks for this great video! I have the 50 and the 18 - 135. I also love how versatile the 18 - 135 is and use it all the time. I'm not a big fan of how it does in low light situations though. How does the Sigma 18 - 35 and Canon 10 - 18 do on the 80d in low light compared to the 18 - 135?
thank you so much this is very useful. i am learning doing videography but no ideas about lens. now i ld just had my channel 8weeks old, hope i can make more video. more video. thanks again
Just got a Canon 80D. Came with a 18-135 lens. What other lens would you recommend for shooting sports and weddings because both can be dark lit scenarios.
Bro I noticed you have the yeti mic blackout; I actually have the same one but how can u make the best out of it? Like what program to edit the sound and that stuff
nice videos man! I got my 80D off craigslist and it came with the 18-55 kit lens :( Your videos have def helped me in deciding where to go from here! Keep up the good work
Im just starting out,I know it's an old camera but I have a 60d..will these types of lenses be compatible with my camera and for cinema and music videos, would 50 1.8 mm be good or 50 2.4? #stilllearning
I'm planning on buying Canon 80D, and I am looking for a zoom lens around 24-105mm. I prefer L series, but all of the lenses are quite expensive, so other lenses are fine. I'm a beginner. What lens would most likely the best?
This was very informative, thank you. I am thinking of buying the 80D for my vlogging but am unsure of what lens to buy. I need to do direct overhead video that shows charting and writing. I will need to zoom in now and then and show small detail on the chart as well. Can the 18-135 kit lens accomplish this? Or do I need to move to the Sigma 18-35? Or the 18-55 kit lens?
2 Things.. 1. How come the 18-35mm doesn’t vignette on the Canon 80D Full frame? 2. Is the sigma 35 prime really THAT much sharper to get a prime over a zoom? Maybe not if I plan to do landscape?
Nice video :D i currently have the canon is stm 18-55mm kit lens and the yongnuo 50mm. my requirement is for video, shall i get the 24mm stm or 10-18mm stm or both :P ? i am getting both for $200 . used but with canon warranty.
Hi I have a question. Can I use the lenses of 80d in a mirrorless camera (for example the 6d mark ii?). If I decided to upgrade the 80d for the 6d mark ii, will I lose my lenses? Do I need to use an adaptor? What are your thoughts? Thank you!
Hey Carlos, I’m pretty sure the 6d mark ii is not a mirror less camera. It is full frame so you have to make sure the lenses work with that. Otherwise it’s the same mount
Got a question here. Do you maybe think that instead of the 18-135 USM lens the 18-135 STM lens is better? If im not mistaking the STM one is much much quieter when autofocusing. Hope someone will answer me.
Thanks! But do I benefit from dual pixel AF in videomode if I use non-stm lenses with the 80d? I always thought that only stm lenses offer smooth autofocus. Am I wrong?
That’s a great question. I will have to do some investigation on that one. From my experience, non-stm lenses work almost as well as stm with dual pixel af
When I travel I take a Sony camcorder for quick and easy use, image stabilisation, zooming and lightweight hassle free. My Canon 70D and lenses stay at home. ;)

I absolutely love the 50mm fixed 1.4 lens, its just perfect for video and what I do.

Hi from 2020! Helpful video, wondering if this list changes at all for my 90D?
I have the 24mm 2.8, 50mm 1.8, 10-18, Tamron 70-300 and the Sigma.
The Sigma is just another level, but the other are best buy for a low price.
What a great video! I'm wondering if you could help me: I found a used stigma lens for great price online that is semi used. The thing is, it's for a Nikon camera and I have a canon 80d. Do you recommend i stick to original lens for canon 80d or a Nikon lens will be fine? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.
That’s a good question. Ideally you would have the Canon mount, but you are not likely to loose any quality with an adapter.
Have you used the tamron 18-400mm and if so is it worth it?
My favourite walk around is the 17-55 f/2.8. Should get a mention here.
kipling1957 Quite Expensive.
It is.
:) 50mm is amazing for portraits but 18-135 is so versatile
Canon 50mm is my favourite lens because of its versatility and compact size. I believe it is a must have lens for everyone.
GREAT POST! While I have all of the lenses you mention EXCEPT THE SIGMA, I did get the Canon 18-135 with my 80D. Great question! I’ll make a video testing these three lenses out.
18-135 lens
I have been using 80d for the last six months it was awesome
My favourite lens are 10-18mm and 18- 135mm because with 10-18mm we get a wide and macro shots and 18-135 can be use as prime or telephoto.
Are all those lenses made for crop sensor?
Does that make them actually sharper for the crop sensor, than the Canon L lenses?
My favorite is the EFS 24mm f/2.8 because it is perfect for great blurred background shots
I looking for Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM Lens. Do you think it’s good for use?
This was very helpful..... i was just thinking this like 3days ago.
Thanks!
Hey ! Do these lenses gets fit for Canon EOS 80D Full frame body ? I had watched a video that EFS lens doesn't suit for Full frame. What about that ?
50 mm love it for portraits :)
my favorite is EFS 24mm f/2.8 because it is a great wide lens in cheap price and image quality and the focus is good enough .
thank you so much this is very useful. i am learning doing videography but no ideas about lens. now i ld just had my channel 8weeks old, hope i can make more video. more video. thanks again
Thanks for the video, you reached the same conclusion as some other videos I've seen which gives me confidence!
I love the canon 70-200. That depth of field ♥
Pancake 28 mm which is a 36 mm multiplied by 1.6 x crop. Great for landscapes.
Just got a Canon 80D. Came with a 18-135 lens. What other lens would you recommend for shooting sports and weddings because both can be dark lit scenarios.
50mm and 85mm primes
Great video. Im thinking about 80d and in between buying just body or with kit lenses. How was cuba? Im going in march for 5 days.
50mm lens is a good for cinimatic shots for our short film tqq bro for your imformation I am from India nellore tqq so much bro 😍
Thanks this video was very helpful! added a bunch to my wishlist to keep track of them. I'd really love the 50m for my next lens!
Keep up the good work
Out of all i picked 18 to 135mm lens. Can you tell me what about canon 70-200 mm f2.8 IS ii lens . Does it competable with canon 80D
Cannon 55mm is my best because it gives a depth of field while I am shooting videos
1. Tokina 11-20mm f2.8
2. Sigma 18-35mm f1.8
3. Sigma 50-100mm f1.8
4. Sigma 30mm f1.4
All lens for crop.
How did you manage to film with the 10-18 in your dark room? When the lens is 1:4-5. I always get grainy image......or do you fix the grain in post
No fixing of grain in post- that's strait from the 80D!
Im just starting out,I know it's an old camera but I have a 60d..will these types of lenses be compatible with my camera and for cinema and music videos, would 50 1.8 mm be good or 50 2.4? #stilllearning
Great list, had no idea the RED kit used the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 lens. Might just need to me my next lens.
Thank you for this video. I recently got my 80D with 18 to 135 lense, my next lense is 10 to 18 mm.
I'm planning on buying Canon 80D, and I am looking for a zoom lens around 24-105mm. I prefer L series, but all of the lenses are quite expensive, so other lenses are fine. I'm a beginner. What lens would most likely the best?
Ian Lee 18-135 usm
I've been enjoying the canon 10-18mm , its seems like it s good for beginners . and when you get a good pic, u will be hyped!!!!
Will this lens fix on all DSLR Canon camera.
The Uranian Astrologer maybe the 18-135 will be a better choice since the 18-35 is not much of a zoom lens.
Very informative video..
i love the canon 50mm 1.4 because you can use that lens for any situation
Hi. Do you know how much video quality of 24-105 EF STM lens is better as compared to EF-S 18-135mm
Hi PyroDrone,
I have a Canon 80D and I am filming some basketball games soon, which lens would you recommend that I use?
tamron 10-24 is much better than the 10-18 in my opinion. and instead of the 50mm 1.4, id save some money and go for the 50mm 1.8 for only 100 bucks!
Im currently using canon 50mm 1.8, 1.4 sigma 30mm. 2.8 17 to 50mm sigma and 2.2 Rokinon lense on a 80d whats ur opinion on them..
hey ...appreciate ur work and i have canon 80d & wanna know which lens is best for macro photography ....
2 Things.. 1. How come the 18-35mm doesn’t vignette on the Canon 80D Full frame? 2. Is the sigma 35 prime really THAT much sharper to get a prime over a zoom? Maybe not if I plan to do landscape?
Sean O’Kana the 80D is not full frame. It is an APS-C camera. And yes, the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 is sharper than many primes on the market.
Can you suggest best UV or clear filters for canon 80D
dvid xoxo Filters are determines by the Filter thread size of whatever Lens you're using. Not tthe Camera Body.
Check the Front of your Lens.
How will these fare in low light i.e. high school gym?
do you need to have each and every one of these lenses in your load out or can you supplement a few of the primes with the last 2 zoom lenses?
During travel, I take 2 or 3 lenses but end up using only 18-135 due to its versatility. It is annoying enough to frequently mount and unmount.
Nice, I'm sticking with my 70D for now. Only thing would be usefull is the 60fps framerate but oh well. I'm gonna survive 😂
Does all these lens work the same for the 70d
Conflict Ortiz yes. Same mount same sensor
@@HackThePlanetNow yea I know it's old,but how about a 60d?I'm just starting out.1st camera
Nice video :D
i currently have the canon is stm 18-55mm kit lens and the yongnuo 50mm. my requirement is for video, shall i get the 24mm stm or 10-18mm stm or both :P ? i am getting both for $200 . used but with canon warranty.
Why does no one ever mention the Canon 17-55 IS 2.8 lens? Just picked this one up recently.
Where is tokina 11mm -16mm? I think that is a good wide angle lens with good depth of field!(f2.8).
Do they make lenses for crop sensor cameras that have no crop factor?
I am buying an 80D in the near future, and I use the 24mm on my current 70D,
Any thoughts on the new ronin sc working with the 80d? I've seen it work with the 50mm lens, but maybe with the 10-18?
what lens to choose for car review video?
Wrong with the APS-C note there. I saw you used the 24 mm EF-S lens, which is for APS-C cameras. Only the EF is for the full frame ones.
ProDSLR yes!! I was referring to full frame! So it possible to use them in both cameras? 80d and 6d markii? Thank you!
The EF-S lenses are actually made for APS-C sensor cameras so you don't have to worry about a crop factor.
Who told you that? You still get a crop factor of 1.6 regardless of lens EF or EF-S.
Favorite lens or most useful for me would be the Canon 18-135 mm like the options it gives
Got a question here. Do you maybe think that instead of the 18-135 USM lens the 18-135 STM lens is better? If im not mistaking the STM one is much much quieter when autofocusing. Hope someone will answer me.
Lazar Jaksic usm is just as quiet as stm with faster autofocus. Get usm.
Should i buy the 50mm 1.8f with my current 18-135?
Im looking for a good cinematic video lens
But not expensive 😫
Thanks! But do I benefit from dual pixel AF in videomode if I use non-stm lenses with the 80d? I always thought that only stm lenses offer smooth autofocus. Am I wrong?
That’s a great question. I will have to do some investigation on that one. From my experience, non-stm lenses work almost as well as stm with dual pixel af
is it true the 1.8 sigma has focusing issues with the 80d?
What do you use for audio recording?
When I travel I take a Sony camcorder for quick and easy use, image stabilisation, zooming and lightweight hassle free.
My Canon 70D and lenses stay at home. ;)
Once again, well done
loved it men simply amazing knowledge
The Canon 18-135 Lens i love this lens bcoz its alrounder n for beginner its best lens..
pancake is the best!! also light for a gimbal which is good haha
I love my Sigma 35mm ART 1.4!!!
Thank you for the info you are the best keep it on
Sigma 18-35 1.8 Lens is my favorite :)
I switched from 18-135 IS USM to 24-105 F4 L IS USM. Idk why, but i like it more.
should try canon 35mm f 2.0 , it have is. The lens very sharp and fast focus
Chris Indo but it ain't wide 😢😢😭😭
We can use in 6d mark ii or not
i like sigma 18-35 thanks for the video
Which lens used in videography
The 70-200 for sure
My only issue with the 18-135 is that lockable zoom feature. It is just sooo annoying!
Your video is good but some motion graphics text what you saying is needed for boosting your video
Is the sigma 18 35 smooth in video for AF on the 80D
mark shirley I have the 18-35 and it’s pretty smooth with AF I haven’t noticed any issues at all.
I love that sigma, hope to have one one day!
