I bought a 2015 Murano SL in October 2015. Have put over 60,000 miles with zero problems. I travel from Ontario to Florida every year and can drive 600 miles in one day without being tired. I test drove a Lexus 350 RX, a Honda CRV, a Santa Fe and a Ford Edge before I made my decision. I love my Murano and highly recommend it if you want a comfortable, quiet, economic luxurious SUV for a good price and reliability. I can't wait for the next model change... it will be even more awesome.
We just bought a new 2019 Murano Platinum and we LOVE it. Basically this trim comes loaded with everything and the ONE FEATURE this Murano has standard, is the 360 degrees camera views which we love very much and it is super helpful when parking properly. I do not understand why this feature is not yet available in other cars. Design also plays a role. You buy a car you like visually speaking and the Murano is beautiful from our point of view.
Having just purchased a ‘19 Murano Platinum FWD 3 months ago, I absolutely love it. I’ve had my eye on this car since the ‘15 came out but purposely waited for the ‘19 refresh. I drove a ‘19 Edge Titanium back to back and the Murano won hands down. The Murano has a much better suspension and controlled ride, is much more planted to the road, the seats are way more comfortable and it’s quieter. The Edge is a nice car but not for me. Coming from a ‘16 Honda CR-V Touring AWD I was ready for something nicer. And I like the Murano’s CVT. It gives you the shift feeling under harder acceleration, but otherwise it’s as good as the CVT I had in my CRV. I also crossed shopped this to the Sante Fe (hated the exterior design), the Passport (road noise is still too intrusive in the cabin which still plagues Honda’s, plus I wasn’t looking for a “rugged” SUV), and the Grand Cherokee and Blazer (both over priced and too much hard plastic everywhere). I’d highly recommend the Murano. Thanks for this great video Alex!
@@aayonce4 That is reassuring, given some of the horror stories I've heard about the longevity of Nissan CVTs. Were you a stickler for changing the CVT fluid at manufacturer-recommended intervals? A Mercedes service rep told me that's the key to keeping Nissans CVTs trouble-free.
I bought my 2018 Mo in October of last year and I love it more and more each day. Unlike these other crossovers that are pretending to be off-roaders, the Murano isn’t. This is designed to be a luxury vehicle at a mainstream price.
Nice objective review. I purchased a 2019 blue Murano Platinum trim. Did lots of research. Was set on the Murano since it was the best bang for the buck. Bought on clearance for a 20% discount which sweetened the deal. Since they are in less demand, you can really bargain. Added a 6 year 100,000 mile comprehensive warranty so I’m worry free. There’s no such thing as a cheap repair so I felt it was money well spent given the discount I got. I have owned two Nissan Sentras and a Nissan Altima and they were all good reliable cars. Absolutely love the Murano. Just a unique and stylish design. I think the wheels are the best looking out of any SUV. Seats and ride are very comfortable. You don’t buy the Murano for towing or off-roading. Is designed for street. Lower ground clearance than its competitors makes entry and exit easy, but you still enjoy the feel and safety of a bigger vehicle with sitting high but still great road manners. Quiet cabin. My wife is super picky and she loves this vehicle . Infiniti like experience for almost half the price. Plus there are not a lot of them out there so you stand out. Very happy so far.
I have 2018 Murano SL fwd and 2019 Lexus RX 350 f-sport. The Lexus IS better however slightly. When I drive long distance from FL to NYC I always take my Murano because better mileage and bigger tank so on full tank almost 600 miles whereas Lexus maybe 400 miles. The seats are more comfortable than the Lexus and the main reason I take the Murano is CarPlay and Waze. I don’t have used my escort radar detector anymore. I don’t know how waze gets always with it but it’s the best
@Michael Diaz yeah he’s not lying. I took a 7hr road trip to Myrtle Beach and got 634 miles on a full tank. Also, the ride was buttery smooth. That car is amazing.

Alex thank you for such an indepth review. My only argument is, there are alot of discrepancies about the CVT . The thing is, ever since I've owned my 2020 SL model (about 5 months now) ive rarely found the CVT to have a lagging issue. While on the road or the highway when i punch the accelerator the CVT responds quickly with definite power output.

It's a tough segment if you want 5 seat 2 - row and a V6 engine. The new Chevy Blazer looked like it might compete, but is way overpriced. I have a 2017.5 Murano and it seems to be the best bang for the buck, but I'd prefer a non - CVT option. That said, the ability to put it in "manual" mode to up/dn shift does make it more drivable. Getting a bit older and a lot less off-roadie, this has been a superb vehicle for my current needs. The kids are gone, but it still snows where I am so the AWD gets a bit of work in winter - and does so very well. I'm looking at alternative for when my current lease expires, but I'm not seeing anything that sweeps me away at the same price point. Sure, I'd like a BMW X5, but not at twice the price...
We cross shopped this Murano last year when looking. What Alex doesn't mention is the extremely poor outward visibility in the Murano. Also, the CVT bogs down horribly when you try to get up to highway speeds. We ended up with the Kia Sorento, that had better performance with the new 8 speed automatic, and though it has those vestigial 3rd row seats, they fold flat and make a nice larger 2 row. We've had it nearly a year and not a single problem, just a simple oil change.
Nice looking car, I'm not sure about the V6/CVT combination. I wish Nissan would have put at least a six speed automatic transmission instead of the CVT. Same for the pathfinder.
@@EpicDrew15 I hope Nissan would put that ZF nine speed transmission in all their front wheel drive cars. It just might restore Nissan to its former days of building really reliable cars.
CVT had readability issues until about 2015-2016 but those have since been resolved and Hyundai is currently dealing with a lot of recalls, I'd seriously doubt it will be more reliable than the Murano. The VQ35 is nearly bullet-proof and parts are cheap, those motors have no issues hitting 200K miles or more.
Great review Alex. I got 2019 Santa Fe 2.0t ultimate for 32,600 in December 2018. They sell them now for less. I’m super happy with my choice. I think 2019 Santa Fe beats its competitors by a huge margin.
Nissan master tech here. Don’t listen to the sales pitch. The CVT issues are worse than ever. We replace 10 a week and we’re a small dealership. Some at very low mileage.
@@EpicDrew15 well i changed CVT oil last year at about 51k on the odometer runs like new it was jerking weirdly at launch but this was after i had to get new tires due to picking something on the road and after that it was like lurching forward so i made sure to change CVT fluid ... While the idea of comfortable seats is appealing,I also like the idea of cargo practicality. And for some reason I'm not a big fan of a raked rear. Whatever space a crossover or wagon has, especially in the cargo area should be usable space in my opinion.
I just got this car yesterday and took it home last night and the left side buttons on the steering wheel don't work except the volume controls. Took it to service and they already said they have to order a part for it. They have no clue why this car has this problem lol. Hope this isn't the beginning of some BS!
The classes of compact or midsize crossover are very similar. It really depends on what your priorities are, especially in terms of comfort, cargo space, and price.
6:34 - That's a relief, I was wondering where I should store that gallon of Milk. I was a little nervous that it might fall over in the back row or cargo area on my way back from Walmart . lol Seriously though - it's nice to have an idea about the size of different storage compartments in a vehicle then You have a better Idea of what to expect.
I’m interested in buying one of the following: 19 Hyundai Sante Fe, 19 Honda CRV, 19 Toyota RAV4, 19 Chevy Blazer, or the 19 Acura RDX. Which one is the Best Buy in your opinion Alex?
My brother-in-law has the 18 base version and it is VERY well equipped for the price. It’s very comfortable, quiet and smooth. Definitely not an off-road car, but behaves very well on the pavement. The power is solid and linear. The CVT is a definite negative, but only in terms of reliability - no droning is noticeable. My biggest issues with this car are the CVT and the fact that it’s a bit long, given its usable shape. It’s not very easy to park, even with its backup camera. 23mpg isn’t stellar either.
@@RayB1656 I was talking about the average person and in comparison to other cars. I’m a New Yorker. I can park a tank in 5 square feet, but not everyone has that ability. The car is long and has poor visibility. That makes it harder to park than say... the Grand Cherokee, Edge, Highlander or Passport.
6:32 ...for sure you've got to try...a gallon of milk go directly in it if you discard the packing carton . A small tree smells good should do the trick when give back the car after the test . Julius Sämann, a true visionary
You just need to do your research with Hyundai. Their older drivetrains are bulletproof, but certain specific engines and their newer transmissions are reliability disasters. If you're shopping for one, maybe buy a consumer reports subscription.
I believe that engine was developed during the Carter administration, it may be powerful but it is the opposite of smooth at high rpm, and their CVT transmissions are still going to self-destruct and irritate you before they do it
Test drove a murano while I was waiting on my Juke to be done. This felt sweet comfy. While I loved the V6 engine i felt it was too big a vehicle for my needs. I tested a Rogue and it was more for me. But I’d get a murano if I could justify it and afford it.
As a 6ft tall guy why do we nees 80in of legroom in a secon row? Why cant they shift the seats forward 3inches and add more cargo space in these crossovers. Its just a lot of waisted space that could be used elsewhere
Taras Cool...That's NOT MSRP. Different dealers ans regions will yield different deals. Like Alex said, the Santa Fe is by far the better value, comparably equipped.
@@tarasyk2003 34K all in is a great deal! But again, that's not a price that people can count on. And you have to put up with an older, less reliable SUV. At MSRP, I don't know why anyone would buy the Nissan.
It's becoming harder finding compact SUV's with decent towing due to fuel efficiency focused designs. I'm all for better fuel economy and less emmisions but less compact suvs pull 3500lbs these days 😔
@@blackwhirlwind1245 I think that's what he's saying, that even compact SUVs like the RAV4 can tow more. I am mystified why the Ford Edge with the 2.3L EcoBoost 4 can tow 3,000 pounds while the Murano can only do half that. Perhaps it's because the Edge has a 6-speed while the Murano's CVT isn't up to the task?
I think this segment of SUV/Crossover is similar in size interior wise to full-size sedans. If you wanted a hybrid with similar space maybe an Avalon would be a great alternative
@@EpicDrew15 They’ve been “redesigning it” since 2003, Lol. They’re all junk. I’ve been a Nissan master tech for 22 years and the CVT is the WORST thing Nissan has ever done to themselves.
Drove the 2017 version. Inside does feel more luxury. Look wise. Touch wise a bit low quality. The touch screen and overall controls was good. Speed was decent and acceleration was fine. But I don't feel epa was good at all. The handling is subpar thou. Hard to park.
Seen one on the lot it was a beautiful SUV Nissan has took over and people hating trying to stop they sales everything they make is close to they infiniti models they sales are off they roof!
The camera resolution needs much improvement. And what’s up with the foot brake and non folding rear view mirrors on all models? The CVT transmission is a dealbreaker for me.
THE MOST IMPORTANT INFO i NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IS FRONT LEG ROOM. Yes, all caps because it's that important. I'm 6'3" with legs equal in length to someone 6'9". I have a 2017.5 Nissan Rogue coming to the end of the lease next week and I'm looking for a car/SUV with the most front legroom. Another thing is, when reading specifications about front legroom it doesn't seem to matter that one says it has 2" more legroom. I get in it and the feels like there's less legroom. I'd like to see you get a very tall friend to comment on how well the vehicle fits them. Same for someone 5'2". You don't have to put them on camera, just get their opinions. This would put you WAY ahead of the other car review channels. In fact because a lot of Americans are obese you should find someone who weighs in at 300 lbs or more and get their opinions.
Test drove Lexus Rx 350 f sport, rdx, xt5, jeep Cherokee 4x4 limited, Infiniti qx50, hyndai tuscon and santa fe. The murano was the most comfortable. CVT or not. Most cars in the future will have CVTs. You can always get lifetime warranty if your buying new.
I’d definitely be concerned about that JATCO CVT. They are notoriously unreliable. If it had something like an Aisin 8 speed, then I’d jump at the Murano
I'm currently leasing 2019 Nissan Murano. Base model. I don't understand , why every car reviewer classifies the ride as comfortable. The ride is very stiff. If you live in the city or area of the country where roads and highways have perfect pavement, then the ride is smooth. However, for the SUV of this size and class, the suspension is very stiff. That's the truth. You will feel every bump and pothole, you go over. And suspension, gets very upset over large potholes and other road imperfections. If you live in the city or are with choppy roads, you will litteray break you back. That's how stiff the suspension is. I suggest, always test drive the vehicle. Especially off highway.
Daryl, good comeback on that comment...I test drove one...they are amazing for ride quality...I would like to know what Kuziak is smoking!..lol...must be that great pot we have up here in the great White North...LOL !
My Nissan has 309K miles. But then again, the odometer stopped being accurate after 100K miles and the engine and transmission blew up so I can't really drive it. Also, the suspension is shot and the paint isn't all there. Still, I like my Nissan. I am not a crackpot.
My last Murano went 9 years and still looked and drove like new when I sold it. My 2018 has more polarizing styling, but it is comfortable and capable for long trips and commuting. There is not much in this segment that qualifies as near luxury 2 row crossover for under $40k. I was hoping that the Passport was going to be a poor man’s RDX, but they made it a wannabe Jeep. I have had 5 Honda’s and loved them all, just wish they made a more direct competitor to the Murano and Subaru Outback size wise.
160K on my 02 Altima drove like new when I sold it 2 years ago, still on the road today from what I hear almost 200K now. @Irfan - The sentra and cheaper entries do have a worse safety rating, should be resolved with the 2020 refresh thanks to the updated platform. Definitely something to be aware of going into a purchase though.
If the Murano could even tow 3,000 pounds as the Ford Edge with the 2.3L 4 Ecoboost, it would be absolutely perfect. Yet, that 4-banger is rated to tow twice as much as the V-6 Murano! For the majority of my driving, the Pathfinder is too much vehicle. I'd hate to have to step up to the Pathy just to be able to pull a teardrop trailer. I would also have to give up CarPlay... I don't understand why virtually every Nissan model in 2020 has CarPlay capability ***except*** the Pathfinder! Towing capability and CarPlay definitely makes the Santa Fe, the Kia Sorento, or even the Grand Cherokee a more attractive option considering their prices on the used/CPO market. Then, there''s the CVT issue...
First generation Murano looked amazing, especially in the metallic orange. So distinctive and still attractive, IMO. This one, ick. Styling is way too awkward and swoopy and all over the place.
So what you are telling us is that all the Murano Platinum owners made a conscious decision to pick this tasteless wad over something like the base Audi Q5. Fascinating.
It's sad that Nissan didn't discard the Murano for 2020 and made an other platform for me personally! there a design disconnect on the interior, exterior They should not offer that blue paint. these days the CUV that get me excited are the hybrids, PHEV, and EV!
Really i think the orange color with the white looks great! But buying a car like this asking for a 6 to 10 years of ownership when you know the market is trending toward alternatives to combustible is hard. As a consumer i guess its ok to give feedback i wish Nissan all the best.

The classes of compact or midsize crossover are very similar. It really depends on what your priorities are, especially in terms of comfort, cargo space, and price.
6:34 - That's a relief, I was wondering where I should store that gallon of Milk.
I was a little nervous that it might fall over in the back row or cargo area on my way back from Walmart . lol
Seriously though - it's nice to have an idea about the size of different storage compartments in a vehicle then You have a better Idea of what to expect.
I’m interested in buying one of the following: 19 Hyundai Sante Fe, 19 Honda CRV, 19 Toyota RAV4, 19 Chevy Blazer, or the 19 Acura RDX. Which one is the Best Buy in your opinion Alex?
RDX
My brother-in-law has the 18 base version and it is VERY well equipped for the price. It’s very comfortable, quiet and smooth. Definitely not an off-road car, but behaves very well on the pavement. The power is solid and linear. The CVT is a definite negative, but only in terms of reliability - no droning is noticeable. My biggest issues with this car are the CVT and the fact that it’s a bit long, given its usable shape. It’s not very easy to park, even with its backup camera. 23mpg isn’t stellar either.
No problem to park the car ! Not everyone has the same ability !
23 mpg doesn’t sound bad to me at all, we have a 2021 Jeep Compass 4x4 and it gets 23 lol
6:32 ...for sure you've got to try...a gallon of milk go directly in it if you discard the packing carton . A small tree smells good should do the trick when give back the car after the test . Julius Sämann, a true visionary
In Canada, you can buy milk in plastic bags that fit into a pouring handle/frame. Perhaps he could use those for his "gallon of milk" test. :)

is there reliability issues with the Santa Fe ? I was under the impression that Hyundai had reliability issues.
Their reliability is much better than it used to be. Case in point, they have one of the best warranties in the industry.
Love the looks. Skeptical on longevity.
Also, it took until 2020 to get CarPlay/AA?! Are they Mazda?
LoveStallion Mazda had apple play in 20-8, so get ur facts straight. Besides Mazda’s are better looking and over all better than ghetto nissan
You mean, are they Toyota?
The Murano had it since 2017
Toyota seemed unable or willing to put Carplay/ AA in most of their vehicles till 2020 and beyond
Idiot they had carplay and aa a long time ago
I bought brand new Murano SV in Canada for 34k taxes included, about 10k less than comparable Santa Fe. Now thay is value
Taras Cool...That's NOT MSRP. Different dealers ans regions will yield different deals. Like Alex said, the Santa Fe is by far the better value, comparably equipped.
@@johnholst well Hyundai dealer didnt want to lower the price so for my case wasnt worth it since i got by far better deal on Murano
@@tarasyk2003 34K all in is a great deal! But again, that's not a price that people can count on. And you have to put up with an older, less reliable SUV. At MSRP, I don't know why anyone would buy the Nissan.
Wish you would include towing info. I need a 2 row crossover that can tow.
4:30
@@backrowguy8955 I meant at the end when he does the segment compare, but thank you.
It's becoming harder finding compact SUV's with decent towing due to fuel efficiency focused designs. I'm all for better fuel economy and less emmisions but less compact suvs pull 3500lbs these days 😔
@@James-rd9mo2019 rav4 adventure can tow 3500 if that's what you want.
Remember. Nissan started the CVT in the Murano in 2003! The issues ARE STILL NOT FIXED!
@@EpicDrew15 They’ve been “redesigning it” since 2003, Lol. They’re all junk. I’ve been a Nissan master tech for 22 years and the CVT is the WORST thing Nissan has ever done to themselves.
20 in. tire is availible in the platinum not the sl.
Drove the 2017 version. Inside does feel more luxury. Look wise. Touch wise a bit low quality. The touch screen and overall controls was good. Speed was decent and acceleration was fine. But I don't feel epa was good at all. The handling is subpar thou. Hard to park.
"Reba McEntire Fancy" I already loved Alex... I do even more so now lol.
At least nissan with this vehicle kept the tacky, cheap black cladding to a minimum....
@Alex, Does Nissan not offer the Midnight Edition of the Murano anymore? If not, do you know why they stopped making those?
Seen one on the lot it was a beautiful SUV Nissan has took over and people hating trying to stop they sales everything they make is close to they infiniti models they sales are off they roof!
Fantastic look💕💚💛💖👏👏
The camera resolution needs much improvement. And what’s up with the foot brake and non folding rear view mirrors on all models? The CVT transmission is a dealbreaker for me.
There are a lot of reliability issues with this car. Sales are down 18% this year as the word gets out.
Alex can you review the Buick Envision
The SUV version Fairlady Z look!
Yep it looks like a maxima/370z in SUV form
So how do you feel about the 2021 durango being BoF and on the ram 1500 platform?
There are a lot of these sitting on used car lots. Not usually a good sign.
It's. Because Nissan use them as rental cars I own the vehicle and a 07 Altima best vehicles I ever owned had a Ford and Dodge worst vehicles
Fleet Vehicles
I’d definitely be concerned about that JATCO CVT. They are notoriously unreliable. If it had something like an Aisin 8 speed, then I’d jump at the Murano
They've honestly had the bugs worked out since 2016, but they earned that reputation so I can't blame people for being skeptical.
Not sure if your reading but the 8 speed in rav 4 and camry have been failing not even 3k
daryl g I just read about it. Didn’t Toyota issue a reprogramming fix? I can’t find whether it has worked or not
@@Jaymac720 Based on my reads online it seems the issue is still happening.
my co workers 2019 rav 4 's transmission failed toyota had to replace it was 3mos old lol
You think it’s stiff? I drive in city and highway and it’s extremely comfortable
your tires must be on 50 psi lol
Daryl, good comeback on that comment...I test drove one...they are amazing for ride quality...I would like to know what Kuziak is smoking!..lol...must be that great pot we have up here in the great White North...LOL !
Nissan's sell because they're inexpensive, comfy, roomy and people don't care about their car lasting past 100k miles.
My Nissan has 309K miles. But then again, the odometer stopped being accurate after 100K miles and the engine and transmission blew up so I can't really drive it. Also, the suspension is shot and the paint isn't all there. Still, I like my Nissan. I am not a crackpot.
@@DoctorSkillz my previous nissan had 200,000 kms and the current owner put on another 50k
I have had 5 Honda’s and loved them all, just wish they made a more direct competitor to the Murano and Subaru Outback size wise.
most of Nissan does not have good safely ratting
160K on my 02 Altima drove like new when I sold it 2 years ago, still on the road today from what I hear
almost 200K now.
@Irfan - The sentra and cheaper entries do have a worse safety rating, should be resolved with the 2020 refresh thanks to the updated
platform.
Interior reminds me of 3rd Gen(2007-2011) Lexus GS350...
What about that CVT tho 👀
This car needs HP & torque numbers closer to the numbers of the same engine in the Maxima
First generation Murano looked amazing, especially in the metallic orange. So distinctive and still attractive, IMO. This one, ick. Styling is way too awkward and swoopy and all over the place.
Pity you did not take the Mitsubishi range in consideration................
You didn't mention it but I am still leaning towards the RAV4 Hybrid
I'm confused why the Kia Sorento isn't the main competitor to this vehicle.
Sorento's leather seats are narrow and very firm. The cloth is livable. Kia has a ways to go.
I like their seats, not as good as a BMW, Audi, or Mercedes - but not nearly as bad as the ones used by GM.
Sven...The Sorento is also a three row crossover. But in terms of price, it's right on top of the Nissan.
@@johnholst Till last year the Sorento also had a 2-row version. Guess they figured why not give the 3-row option to all for the same price this year.
@@svenhallauer3229 Ah! That's right! Where I live, it's always been a three row. But to me, the Sorento is far nicer than the Murano for this money.

So what you are telling us is that all the Murano Platinum owners made a conscious decision to pick this tasteless wad over something like the base Audi Q5. Fascinating.
I would pick a santafe over this
What happened to the gorgeous interior of the previous design?
Highlander!
Telluride without a second thought
You can’t compare a Murano to a Telluride... compare it to the Sorento
A 50k Ford y'all people crazy
It's sad that Nissan didn't discard the Murano for 2020 and made an other platform for me personally! there a design disconnect on the interior, exterior They should not offer that blue paint. these days the CUV that get me excited are the hybrids, PHEV, and EV!
Nissan is looking for a new CEO, maybe you should apply, than you can make all the changes that you want.
Really i think the orange color with the white looks great! But buying a car like this asking for a 6 to 10 years of ownership when you know the market is trending toward alternatives to combustible is hard. As a consumer i guess its ok to give feedback i wish Nissan all the best.
