With the wording on Journey to the Lost City, the first 2 effects only care about the cards that were exiled that turn, but the Nat.20 care about every card exiled by it
And yes, it is not really good, it depends to much on luck...😅🦀
@@nilshaukeholtfester9198 True, it's also in the completely wrong deck (despite caring about exile). Should be in a Vrondiss deck to be honest.
AliasV, Amy and Serge: play normal paced MTG.
Olivia: *ramping intensifies*
That tends to happen when you are playing the only green deck at the table
Olivia: I am speed!
Hahaha I know right. All she needs is crucible of words to pair with fabled passhog and she will be swarming with basic swines🤣
I want everyone to know how absolutely small/foolish I felt when I realized my mistake with the background - i wanted to disappear 😅(and still do!!!)
Well, the turn 2 ramp was cheating when you used the 1 floating Sol Ring mana twice...that was worse.
@@adambandurak8913 it was! Saw the other comment about it and realized I absolutely did! Hindsight is 20/20, certainly no malice was intended :(
@@goberthicks crap happens... pretty sure 99% of us know you wouldn't intentionally cheat out all your mana. it just happens when you're the problem child game after game :P
@@goberthicks To be honest, if you're going to make mistakes in Magic, a Commander RUclips video is the best place to do it! Commander is for funsies and as long as nobody is intentionally cheating to try to win (which absolutely nobody thinks you'd do), it often just makes the game more exciting and fun to watch. And that was a pretty explosive turn 2, certainly can't blame you for counting mana wrong.
This is just playing games. Rules get missed, things happen. There are four people at the table and if everyone misses it then it just happens. I can not imagine the complexity of playing on line, and recording and trying to be entertaining and playing new decks all at the same time. Love the videos, keep them coming!
Olivia: "I'm playing it out of the box and don't know what I'm doing, soooo"
Okay so straight forward Olivia. All good.
The power of the Nat 20!!!!! Now you know how every DND player feels when we roll a Nat 20!!!!
the only thing with the nat 20 is its with a spin down die
@@whiteblaze12345 it's still a 20. I totally understand that logic cause there could be defects in the die and what not. But there are 20 sides and if it's balanced, the odds are still the same. I was rolling a spin down before I started playing MTG and I was like how come I keep getting high numbers?? Obviously, that die wasn't balanced very well.
Wilhelt and Captain N'ghathrod in the same game? I am LIVING
The Turn 2 super ramp was illegal as there was not actually enough mana available to Explore into a Cultivate without dropping a land into play off of the Explore prior to playing Cultivate.
Doing the prerelease for Baulder's Gate, a good number of people (myself included) realized midway into the draft that backgrounds can't just be slapped on to any legendary creature. It happens!
I FELT SO INCREDIBLY HORRIBLE i was absolutely willing to just end the game omg - i'm still mortified
@@goberthicks we can just assume you drew it while you were playing all those lands!
hey at least it was in your commanders colors so you didnt like....add a color :)
@@thomhitzelberger7876 kitchen finks
@@fenixmeaney6170 Serge will never live down the Kitchen Finks. The internet remembers
Olivia called a Forest a Grass. As an old retired Pokemon player, I think that's awesome!
haha i can relate i accidentally called that green dragon from the capenea set raquaza all the time
Love the content! Thanks for consistent commander gameplay.
Just spotted a misplay and wanted to point it out for y’all in case you missed it:
i believe Olivia’s play on turn 2 is illegal.
She starts with Sol Ring, Forest, and Arcane Signet.
Plays Command Tower and has 5 mana available.
Cast Three Visits for 1G (meaning she has 3 mana remaining) and fetches the forest making her available mana 4 (which she even states)
Then she goes to play Explore but only pays 1 for it which is incorrect. She could have played the spell but then wouldnt have had mana available to cast Cultivate. Unless she had another land in hand before resolving the Cultivate then that doesn’t check out.
Yea, I find their quality control to make the experience a bit lack luster. I honestly stopped watching after the background explanation
See, i can respect that opinion, but for me misplays are just agenerally a part of normal gameplay. No one is asking the stream to have perfect play, that’d be insane.
I enjoy this stream a lot because Alias and Olivia always pick fun people to play with, their audio quality is good, and its always easy to understand whats happening at any given moment.
I point out the misplay for the content creator’s sake. And hopefully that’s something they catch next time, but it certainly doesnt detract from my enjoyment of the vid.
@@ArtEPersonal they definitely aren't, but I'm not putting my games out there for all to watch. I get making mistakes, but that was kind of a big one. I still enjoy their content, and their production has ramped considerably. I would just enjoy it more if there was more of an attempt made at quality control
I LOVE Faldorn! I got and modified it and it immediately became one of my favorite decks. Big brain Gruul smash.
Olivia being a problem week after week is a mood.... and I'm here for it!!!!!
Olivia took a game in her favorite step, the cheat step! I keed...I keed. It's all good. I think her suffering with so much to remember is payment enough for the mistake. As always....Thursday is the best day cause of this show!
Olivia really did put barbarous into new meaning by playing a not really legal, non-sleeved, intelligent Gruul deck :)
I'm always building a commander deck, I start a new one when I finish one.
I do this too. Every single time, I tell myself (and my bank account) "ok, that's it, we're good, I've got all the decks I need now."
And then the next set releases and there's a spicy new legendary and the cycle begins anew.
Well let's be honest with the background error: They introduce a whole new mechanic and not one precon uses that mechanic. Nothing you would expect so I can understand that one :D
The precons do use it because the alternate commander is mono- colored and can be used with that deck as long as you also use the background with that commander
@@mdmedlin75 Yes absolutely! But the main commanders I meant in this case, sorry for not being more clear, don't use it. Unlike for example Sefris of the Hidden Ways uses the dungeon mechanic. Or Chichiro with modified creatures. Or the Riveteer deck from Capenna.
They only reinforced the party-mechanic in one deck but that is not a new mechanic. Backgrounds are. So maybe they could have build a precon with a background built in as is.
Still the current precons are all very good in my opinion. They just lack the "use as is" with background for your commander in my opinion :).
And backgrounds can be a very strong mechanic. Just give Galea double strike (flaming fist) and 10/10 as base stat (raised by giants) for example. They don't vanish after your commander dies and if your commander isn't on the battlefield they are just there and "no" threat.
Edit: changed from "strength of giants" to "raised by giants"
@@Nox_Immortalis Raised by Giants is a really good background, especially for Voltron decks like Galea. They are not must includes, but I would toss some in, esp with enchantress decks and Galea
holy crap! this is insane, that nat 20 came in clutch at the end. what a way to go! never a dull moment with olivia
It wasn't enough that Olivia molded her hand with a pre-game action, she added an additional line of text to her commander 🤣
Episode 25 of "Olivia quickly becomes a problem on purpose"
Olivia's "Hmmm's" at around the 28 min mark are giving me Dark Crystal PTSD flashbacks. 🤣
So it think the way journey to the lost city works is the first 2 abilities (1-9 and 10-19) only look at the four that have just been exiled because it says to exile the top four cards and then references “those cards” while the 20 ability says all cards exiled with Journey to the Lost city which would mean every card it’s ever exiled.
That's a little confusing then isn't it? It should be one way or the other in my opinion.
Oh I totally agree with you, it should be all cards exiled with it. Idk if I’m right about it, I’ll look into it for sure.
10:30 where did the third mana come from for Olivia to play Cultivate? I thought she spent the floating colorless from Sol Ring into Explore, then she had a Command Tower and Arcane Signet untapped. She played Cultivate for two mana it looks like, unless I am confused? Obviously she had already ramped to the point where it doesn't really matter
She used the mana from sol ring into three visits then explore.
@@izzydarkhart4144 Forest, Sol Ring, Arcane Signet in play. Plays Command Tower for turn. Taps Forest and Sol Ring for Three Visits, leaves one floating. Puts Forest into play. Has 1 floating and 3 available. Taps Forest and leaves the die on the Sol Ring and plays Explore, does not put a land into play. Leaves Command Tower and Arcane Signet untapped, only 2 mana available to her and then she plays Cultivate.
I noticed that too and it kinda ruined the game for my ocd 😑 woulda been a far different early game had the sol ring not tapped for 3 😬
Twas an honest mistake, we all missed it. Plus we're not out to play the perfect game, we're out to have the best time possible.
@@EDHijinks There's a big difference when it comes to not playing a "perfect game" of making sub-optimal plays in order to let other players highlight their decks, ie holding onto a counter/kill spell and just outright miscounting your mana on just turn 2 of a game and thus presenting an illegal game state.
Saw the game, loved it, commenting for RUclips algorithm.
Y’all do amazing work, keep it up!
Man, you guys have by far the best vibe when playing. Looks like a great time.
I'm pretty impressed that Olivia could climb a ramp THAT steep. :D
Since the mass of creatures from Journey all ETB at the same time, and the triggers can be ordered however you like, End-Raze does indeed get to buff everything except the Wolf tokens before the Warstorm Surge happens.
I think the problem though is that Warstorm sees the power and toughness of the creatures as they enter, which does happen before End-Raze's trigger resolves, so no matter how you order it, they don't get the extra 2 power before Warstorm sees them enter. The Raze buff can definitely resolve first, but Warstorm's damage will still be based on the power without Raze.
@@scrollreader7355 It would check power on resolution.
@@Debatra. Oh yeah! That is true, sorry I was recalling the wording from memory but looking at it again, yup you're absolutely right. Sorry about that!
I absolutely love Faldorn, she's so fun. And the deck is so strong out of the box, too!
I really need to clarify something If you make the correct moves for the triggers on the stack when she make the the natural 20 with the Journey
The Swiftgum and Grumgully will give their +1 +1 counters also the +2 /+2 from ERFR before WSS triggers even resolve... So they where dead with out even counting the damage from the Background... Thats was a really beatiful way to SMASH!!!! The table the old Gruul fashion way. I just love it
I just played against liesa for the first time last night so this was great. It's funny that the past few episodes have featured decks that I had played against at weekly magic night. Love it
10:00 Olivia has 4 mana but proceeds to play explore and then cultivate.....
I think there may have been an interesting rules thing with the archaeologist background and Faldorn being stolen. As the backgrounds state commands you own, rather than control, when Olivia cast Beast within from exile, I believe that would have triggered the Passionate Archeologist trigger on Faldorn. I believe Alias would then have control over where the damage gets pointed.
Thank you to Alias and Olivia for the amazing channel!! I love commander so much, even though I don't have a pod!! I look forward to your content every week. Thank you so much.
I am putting a reminder in my calendar for Calvin Ball Commander 2023.
I've been upgrading the faldorn precon, and it can get thinky at times about managing your exile piles, but it's easily my favorite commander now.
Thank god its Thursday!!!!!! Lots of love for you all! Thanks for the amazing content!
Correct me if I'm wrong and am just not seeing something, but Olivia's turn two goes as follows: plays command tower and has access to five total mana, taps sol ring and forest to play three visits while floating one colorless, puts another forest into play untapped and has access to four mana, says "one, two, explore" but only taps a single forest to cast it not spending the floating colorless, does not play a land off the explore and then uses the remaining three to cultivate. Am I missing something or was this just a miscount?
The lost city was found and it brought all the violence! The last turn was silly!
I don't think Olivia would have been able to play Cultivate. She used the floating Sol Ring mana on Explore. It probably wouldn't have matter later on it the game.
Precons have some great cards in them these days - coven counters is a fun one to think about. You guys make some great content, was great to see Eildh on Cardboard command recently as well
14:59 And Ali goes "la la la la la!"
Gods damn that was some awesome starting ramp from Olivia. Super jelly.
I had a Ravnica deck that ran 4 Hunted Horrors and 4 Leyline of Singularity, which gave all nonlegendary creatures legendary status, and back in those days when a legendary permanent entered the battlefield, all copies of it would die. It was pretty cool to play a 7/7 with trample and just watch those tokens die.
I recommend we name the centaurs from Hunted Horror: Ben & Jerry.
😱 the Glendale token! 😁 IN CENTAUR WOOOOORLD (aaaaaa-ah)
Lol y’all are great. Lovin this channel
29:27 Wasn't the angel blocking Faldorn from activating her triggered ability?
I wish that captain could add the horror creaturetype from his trigger 👀. It wouldnt even be busted xD
Just use maskwood nexus to make all the things you steal horrors as well.
Oh hey i bought the horror precon. I also don't know how to say the commanders name so i end up calling him Davy Jones
Right?? He's definitely Davy
Thank you, lovely ladies and Surge, for helping put my two year old to sleep ❤❤
I am glad people are jumping on the zombie precon. My oldest still existing deck is a Gisa and Geralf "zombie storm" super combo focused deck. That tribe can be made super powerful but it's probably more fun as the sort of midpower swarm thing it does.
Awesome game, love the interactions between Olivia and Alias and all of your guests. Keep making great content!
Making Ah roo's I can't 😂😂😂😍
Just starting the video, but man do I hope someone teased Serge about color identity. Did he include Kitchen Finks in his B/W deck?
Awesome I just put together A Captain N'ghathrod deck. So vicious. I wouldn't think to play it over spell table, but that is what infnitokens are for. Awesome content yet once again. Thanks for all you wonderful people put into this.
10:17 olivia pay explore cost with 1 mana?
I don't play unsleeved but I do bridge shuffle. ;)
I love the way this channel handles mistakes. Not only is it hilarious, but it means people watching and learning don't learn incorrectly. I wish more channels would do this.
Thank you!
Thanks for another fantastic video--and for showcasing Captain N'Ghathrod! I'm not a mill player but I do love stealing other people's decks, pirates, and Lovecraft-esque themes so I very, very nearly got that deck. Ended up building Tasha instead, so it was awesome to get to see the deck get showcased.
21:22 Veil of Summer was banned, but is not from Throne of Eldraine.
Correct! Just in Standard around the same time.
RNGeesus take the wheel! Easiest 5% lethal of Olivia's life
Wow Green is so broken. Ever since turn 2 it was clear who was going to win the game. Why didn't the other 3 just gang up and remove the threat? Wouldn't that have been the strategic play?
Amy pulling up with my favorite commander of 2021, now let's see how it turns out!
Kessig Wolf run is a game winner. trust me, that deck and with that card, let's just say combined with beanstalk giant's ability.... yeah, I can hopefully leave the rest up to imagination.
then there's one card that is somewhat pricey, but it gives everyone trample and haste, so add that ontop and you've just won the game in just a few turns after that collection has been made
Episode 25 already! Time flies when you watch quality content!
Nice this will get me through the first 2 hours of work tonight. Is Olivia going to have guest hosts the way Josh did when Jimmy was filming mulan?
The plan is to have a bunch of games in reserve to cover my "maternity leave". I'm self employed so don't actually have that lol, but the show will go on as usual!
@@EDHijinks that sounds rough on you. Don't push yourself too hard
Serge's "FETID"-comment must be from the Devin Townsend lyric, right? Ziltoid the Omnicient!!
Watching this video makes me wanna get that gruul precon right away cause that's insane. I never expected the xenagos planeswalker to be reprinted alongside Jeska's will. Oh my lord that was a lot of math for me to even to figure out from just watching lol
It's the best of this bunch of precons for sure!
@@EDHijinks indeed. Lovely game overall tho. It's still mind boggling on how far precons have become from running cards that arent worth picking up the precon to just wanting to pick one up right off the gate due to having cards that can even the playing level on a commander deck basically build from scratch lol
Olivia, what are those wonderful blue dices?
"Have you ever played green before" proves Serge isn't the premier lands pilot of this format
Great to see precons in action without any upgrades. Gruul deck seemed interesting, didn't expect all that mathing. Not really fan of milling but do like stealing stuff so N'ghathrod looked like fun.
One of the best pre-con ever. Fun and strong
Liesa was the first commander deck I ever built! Excited to see that with the new precons.
Y'all are so chill! These videos are some great EDH gameplay.
In the immortal words of Laura Bailey from Critical Role, who was playing her Tiefling Cleric Jester in Campaign 2:
"Hello, Bees!!"
My playgroup watches a lot of commander content. Olivia turn 1 Sol Ring is becoming a meme!
Special guest request: Kibler and Kyle Hill because they make each other nuts in the most entertaining way.
Remember what happens in Zelda games when you attack a chicken? Or Skyrim when you kill a chicken? Fear the chicken. Respect the chicken.
Spoilers: I had fun
😁
Yeah I could tell.
An insane game, even with the error. I was bummed to not see the horrors do much, that is the deck I am moat interested in.
It makes another appearance soon TM 👀
@@EDHijinks I wait with baited breath for the return of D&D Davy Jones. I do love me a deck that plays with other people's decks.
@@scrollreader7355 the Gruul deck does some of that too. Has a handful of cards that exile cards from your opponents libraries and graveyards and lets you use quite a lot. Or just exile big scary combo pieces from ever coming into play. It’s fun to top deck an opponents board wipe and use it against them.
@@MrDragondude13 Oo that does sound fun. I tend to prefer Dimir over Gruul but if ever I were to play a Gruul deck, that precon really does seem like one of the few I'd want to play.

Olivia, do you plan on keeping the Faldorn precon? If you do, do you plan on upgrading her?
Great vid! I wanna make people aware even though this is an old vid... Amy was miscounting with her lords modern lords don't buff themselves so when she attacked with the captain and reaper the powers should of been two less
I'm so happy I bought that Gruul precon!

is it just me or olivia payed 2 mana for the three visits, then use the floating mana for the explore with the green and then use that floating mana again for the cultivate?
Yeah she did.

@@EDHijinks tyty!
Hornets are actually REALLY useful, but they are more likely to just sting you because you annoyed them. I think part of the issue is how much fermented/rotten fruit hornets like to eat, they're dried out drunks most of the time, and angry AF as a result. They also clean up all kinds of nasty stuff, but I found some nesting in my mulch pile, so I'm NOT HAPPY ABOUT THAT. Didn't get stung when I found them (with a shovel!), hooray?

Dang even with a precon deck, olivia still kicks butt
Let's be honest. Nobody playing a single board wipe was just as responsible for the chaos of this game as WOTC is for the warped power level of Faldorn.
Hey I tried! Precons don't exactly come with many options 🤣
@@EDHijinks (Heavy Sarcasm Intended) Really it's all Serge's fault. He was playing the higher power level deck in the removal colors. And I saw how many times Faldorn died. That's a testament to the power of early Sol Ring and other ramp, and an extremely warped design for a commander.
While I say warped, I'm so running this commander. It was the one I was most excited for, and got me back into buying singles. I've been out of the loop since Strixhaven.
Someone get the percentage of games where Olivia plays a turn 1 sol ring on camera
