The original, actual, meaning of 'Fast Food'. Not cutting corners on quality, but fast through skill and dedication. It's a joy to see these people work.))))
I just find it amazing that this is considered "Low skill" work by many americans, and that people would scoff at the idea that those who work these sort of positions dont deserve to be well paid and taken care of. This is absolutely amazing to see and they are true craftsman on the grill and fryers.
Well said. And even if they weren't great the grill, it's still hard work. They're working while standing in a hot kitchen. I hate doing that for more than 30 minutes in my own kitchen. I can't imagine doing that for an 8 hour shift or longer.
No its just human deception. they deceive themselves into thinking they are better than others because of a job. delusion and ego. everyone got ego. the old people and the young people , mothers too. "oh look at them" "" oh look at his house" oh look at how they have a drug addict son. its just people. rise above them
@1 2 dont worry about being bashed your right. it takes much more training to become an asset manager or lawyer, than it does a fry cook. Its when you try and say your better someone or someone is lower because they have a less of a job. a lot of its a joke once u really look at it. there are rappers who tattoo their face and rap about xanax with autotune and they get millions. richer than lawyers. less work put in. some people make internet businesses and beomce rich, minimal effort. its about being happy
@1 2 Also if you dont learn by repetition how do you learn? if you are nopt given information by a mentor, then you must find it out yourself by making mistakes, and finding out what your doing wrong. if no one can tell you what is the proper method u must discover the mthod
Honestly when I compare a job like this compared to let's say a lawyer there's not much difference. At the end of the day you're providing a service to the people.
When I was working construction in Chicago I'd always stop here if I was driving by at lunch time... so good. And I think of this as the "new" Jim's, I remember the old one on Maxwell Street before UIC acquired all the land and that was the end of the Maxwell Street Market. But the Maxwell Street Polish lives on!
I love watching masters at work. These guys are masters at what they do. Griddling and building sandwiches are basic skills, but to do what they are doing consistently at this speed takes high dexterity and attentiveness. As someone who has worked every job there is in restaurants, I recoiled at the news that restaurant workers would have to be paid a minimum of $20/hour. Most fast food workers simply aren't worth it; that's why so many restaurants have closed. As a manager and owner, I took the time to interview and train people who I thought were worth more than the fast food chains typically paid. I would increase their pay according to their hard work and contributions to the business. The way I see it, if you're not worth more than minimum wage, keeping you around is stealing a job from someone who is. The workers in this video would definitely be some of the highest paid workers in my own restaurant -- definitely over $20/hour. People who make this kind of effort to keep a business -- and their jobs -- going deserve to be rewarded.
I had to stop watching. I had some smoked sausage in the freezer and fresh onion in the fridge... Wrong bread, but hey I can finish the video in peace.
This is also a Chicago favorite that doesn't get the kudos it deserves. A "Polish" with grilled onions and a Maxwell Street "pork chop" sandwich. The BEST city in the country for foodies! The best.
I grew up in The Chicago area many years ago. The flavor of the meats are like no where else, awesome! Nothing better than a good greasy sausage or burger smothered in grilled onions. My departed granny used to say "If it weren't for grease, everything would taste like shit"! She was right! Ha Ha, that's why they make Lipitor............. Great video!
They’re even better in person! I get the Double Cheeseburger with extra onions and mustard. Comes with the best fries you’ll ever eat! Best of all, it’s cheap!
I lived in the city from 94 to 2000 and when the bars would close I would go there if that’s what you see every fabric of society now I just go there at lunchtime at least once a week when I do my deliveries
I love it to the point, no crazy add-ons or custom orders like other places. You have great meat sandwiches and most importantly ONIONS, I eat them on everything.
Went to college at UIC and my girlfriend had her dorm in JST the building literally right next to it. Ate there couple times a week. Jim's always hit the spot
My dad used to take me to Maxwell St back in the day in the 1970s. I remember eating at Jims when it was on the corner of Halsted and Maxwell St. i remember all the yelling, and all the grilled onions on everything. They serve a good polish char dog and burger, both smothered in grilled onions. The bums used to keep warm with garbage can fires from Jims garbage cans. I can see they moved to a better neighborhood now. 😆😆🇺🇸🇺🇸
When I was in High School I worked at a small place with 2 windows and no seating. We made mexican food and were known for our tacos. It was called Tacos-In-A-Tub. No preformed shells. You started with a stack of shells, meat and aluminum hair clips to keep the tacos closed while in the fryer. Lunch time and on Friday or Saturday nights after football games looked just like that. I almost walked out my first night, but my friend helped me and talked me into staying. I learned and got fast. After this I think I'm making Pork Chops this weekend!

I remember my dad used to take me down to Halsted & Maxwell (the original Maxwells Street Polish) back in 92' the sausages with fries and can soda was $2.50 , now my dad is gone RIP , and here we are in 2023 and the original has been replaced with the UIC college stores, and Maxwell has been renamed to Jims Originals with plenty more locations and the same sandwiches cost about $7.00 😅 but I still love them❤❤❤❤ I'll have a pork chop with no cheese and extra hot peppers for you POPS 🥹😞❤
Love this place. Had to drop a part off to a technician in Chicago last week and drove 25 minutes out of my way for the original Maxwell. Absolutely delicious!
Are you a fan of Morocco,❤❤ welcome to see the most beautiful places in it👍🔔🥰🥰🌹🌹
Great video. That onion pile is something else. I like it how the chefs have a view.
legend has it that whoever gets to take the last onion in that grill will become master of the world
@Williams Mason Man, what nonsense is that the cryptocurrency market is a lie to the people.
And I Will Be the ONE!!!

@Williams Mason Your into Crypto?! And making money with it, I need to get into that, so it’s not gimmick! 🤔

"oh look at them" "" oh look at his house" oh look at how they have a drug addict son. its just people. rise above them
@1 2 dont worry about being bashed your right. it takes much more training to become
an asset manager or lawyer, than it does a fry cook.
Lucky you! Looks yummy!
I like the fact that you can view the Willis Tower if waiting in line. That building never gets old to see!
Did I just watch this entire video? Yes. Yes I did. And, it was worth every second of it lol
Man you were right inside the action. So personal. Love it
This kitchen is the definition of efficiency and food they serve looks delicious!!
I watch a lot of videos, by far one of the best recently. Longtime chef/cook...nice to see a true crew at work. 👍👍👍👍
What an idea to watch this knowing I have no food at home and its midnight LOL
MMMMM GRILLED CHOPS
Same... all I've had is instant noodles and this video popped up on my feed, lol.
I had to stop watching. I had some smoked sausage in the freezer and fresh onion in the fridge... Wrong bread, but hey I can finish the video in peace.
I’m eating 2 hits dogs watching this😭😭 wish I had one of then
This is also a Chicago favorite that doesn't get the kudos it deserves. A "Polish" with grilled onions and a Maxwell Street "pork chop" sandwich. The BEST city in the country for foodies! The best.
who ever is chopping the onions needs a gold medal lol
Fuck Gold...I saw a Diamond encrusted Platinum one....this is Fucking Amazing...I wanna eat 4 of them😂😂😂😂😂
They using onion machine choppers.
That's how Chicago restaurants do their onions
Thought that was sauerkraut
Lol!!
Great video!
watching from the uk, making my mouth water
Those TRIPLE patty’s w/cheese and onions look savage AF!
it's Chicago, it's all savage AF
They’re even better in person! I get the Double Cheeseburger with extra onions and mustard. Comes with the best fries you’ll ever eat! Best of all, it’s cheap!
My favourite food is Shawarma

Someday, i would like to visit there. Looks delicious:)
Oh. YESSSSS! As a born Chicagoan I'll tell you, for a polish sausage, THIS is the place to be!
I lived in the city from 94 to 2000 and when the bars would close I would go there if that’s what you see every fabric of society now I just go there at lunchtime at least once a week when I do my deliveries
Mind blown...true pros at their finest.
Pure video, no distractions, I felt like I was there! Great job. I am now starving.
Damn those onions! Especially when they put the sausage, burger patties, and the pork chop with the onions.
A small child could go unnoticed if 20 lbs of of grilled onions falls on it.
I love it to the point, no crazy add-ons or custom orders like other places. You have great meat sandwiches and most importantly ONIONS, I eat them on everything.
THE OLD ONIONS KEEP YOUR MEAT MOIST
THEN IT GETS TRASHED FOR NEW ONES

My dad used to take me to Maxwell St back in the day in the 1970s. I remember eating at Jims when it was on the corner of Halsted and Maxwell St. i remember all the yelling, and all the grilled onions on everything. They serve a good polish char dog and burger, both smothered in grilled onions. The bums used to keep warm with garbage can fires from Jims garbage cans. I can see they moved to a better neighborhood now. 😆😆🇺🇸🇺🇸
The way they layer in the pork and burgers with the onions to let them soak up the flavor! wow
it also keeps them warm as well!
I enjoyed a nice smoked brisket from smoking pig here in South Carolina, while watching this food service. Delicious Eatin.
The Polish sausages and fries are incredible, and the pork chop sandwich is amazing
My first time (at the original location about 1979) I ordered fries and was told, "we don't fuck with that shit." 🙂
How much was it ?
When I was in High School I worked at a small place with 2 windows and no seating. We made mexican food and were known for our tacos. It was called Tacos-In-A-Tub. No preformed shells. You started with a stack of shells, meat and aluminum hair clips to keep the tacos closed while in the fryer. Lunch time and on Friday or Saturday nights after football games looked just like that. I almost walked out my first night, but my friend helped me and talked me into staying. I learned and got fast. After this I think I'm making Pork Chops this weekend!
Those look delicious! I love the caramelized onion with mustard!
Oh yes!

Brings back memories of me working at the ball games, as a teen. Dogs, fries, and beer.
I'm a lifelong Chicagoan and this is my favorite place to eat in the city.
Which one is your least favorite?
@@astat1 Easy answer for any Chicagoan; any major commercial 'restaurant'. You put a dirty looking place like this next to a McDeath or a Burger Kang and the latter two will go out of business.
