I don't know why German food isn't as popular as other countries' food here in the US. It's everywhere during Oktoberfests, then disappears. I'd give just about anything for a well-done currywurst and kraut. Throw in a Warsteiner Dunkel and I'm in heaven!

While in formation at the Augusta, GA train station, a Sgt. called us to attention and listen for out names to be called. Fifty of us were called and told to stand off to the side. @@jgz6989 Currywurst is typically a normal Bratwurst with ketchup and sprinkled with curry powder. The curry powder is usually yellow. I'm not sure what the red powder is they are adding - but my guess is chilli, cayenne, or paprika.
In some recipes, the ketchup also has other ingredients added to curry-up the flavour, but it looks like standard ketchup here.
My personal favourite is just a plain Bratwurst, with a dollop of mustard and a crusty roll, all separate on a small plate. It's what you get at the railway station kiosks, as I remember. You can taste the sausage that way.

When I was an exchange student in Germany back in the 80s I ate these bratwursts and open faced sandwiches with their delicious bread and peppered cured meats. Every day! And German cakes are the best. Not too sweet. I was in heaven. I love Germany so much. Their fairytale villages and castles are especially enchanting. In my last vacation I stayed at a medieval 12th century castle. We were served sumptuous feasts for our meals. The staff took a lot of pride in the food they served. I was so full one dinner and couldn’t finish a pork dish that the chef came out to ask if there was something wrong with it. Obviously it was excellent and I had to compliment him profusely so he didn’t feel bad. It was our fault we ate a big late lunch outside of the castle.

My first trip to Germany was Summer, 1970, to visit cousins stationed in Karlsrhuhe with the US Military. I would never dream of eating street food in the US, much less in Germany, much, much less greasy sausages! Half a century later, this video is bringing tears to my eyes. They didn't have the mustard selection then that they have now, but "Bitte, ich mochte ein Bratwurst mit Kraut unt ein stuck Brot. Vielen Dank!"

That would be the Currywurst you are reffering to. With little differances you get them all over germany, but in Berlin they are more popular.
It is usually made with Bockwurst and then either with curry ketchup or rather normal ketchup and curry powder. Served with either a Brötchen/Semmel or with fries. This here was from a Thüringer butcher, so again a touch different i would guess. Looked amazing thouhg :)

Proper sausages , not like the junk we have to endure in the UK.
I first came across bratwurst on a weekend trip to Hamburg, back in the early 1980's. I couldn't believe how delicious they were, and hung around the stall to buy a second one. Returning the next day, and the next day. I just lived on the gorgeous sausages. The vendor was always very pleased to see me.

I love them with some mild mustard, and potato salad.

Online sale and might be pricey at the moment but good if you want a freezer authentic bratwurst stash & can afford it. I’ve bought from the first of the two I’ve put here (the VW sausage for currywurst) and good quality & good meal with a bit of homemade curry ketchup or Löwensenf hot mustard.
Sure, it’s not sizzling bratwurst bought and eaten in the Berlin sun but it’ll do :D
