    Ford designed the drain plugs to be reused over and over or until the rubber washer has clear damage, and it does not cost much more to just get a new drain plug from Ford.

    My wife and I bought a 2019 Ford Edge SEL in October. The sales mgr. said if I change the oil myself, which I've done all of our oil changes prior, it will void the lifetime powertrain warranty. Do you think it's worth it since it will void the warranty? I've always looked at the lifetime powertrain warranties as scams designed to get the customer to buy parts not needed, but wanted another opinion.

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  Год назад +2

      They are scams and they won't fulfill it anyways. If there is even one service from a non Ford approved shop, they will weasel out of it anyways. Thanks for watching!

      Lifetime powertrain warranty sounds sketchy..But i just had my waterpump replaced on my ‘16 focus ST (essentially the same engine) and my extended warranty payed for well over half of the cost. These things can be hit or miss and really depends on who you take the car to also. I’ve always done my own oil changes and maintenance in general and it didn’t affect me at all.

      There are a lot of shops that change oil. Most have certified mechanics. I don't believe him. I change oil myself and have done it for 50 years.

      If it's a Ford power train warranty, they cannot void it if you change your own oil. As long as you document your oil change, and you use items that meet or exceed manufacturers specs, you are ok. There are many court cases about this.

      There is no such thing as a lifetime power train warranty

    Adding 5.7 qts seems too much considering pre-filled oil filter.

    dealing w/ the used oil is the most inconvenient part of the process. never wanna be 1 of those losers that dumps it onto the ground (have seen it in videos, what's up w/ that?). big pain taking it to a place to recycle cuz it always wants to drip out of some imperfect connection. not the end of the world if u can transport it in the back of a pickup but most of us don't have that available to them.

    Do not pour oil into the oil filter! you made a mistake! you made an air lock when you first started the engine. oil cannot push air through for a few seconds after starting

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  Год назад +3

      That makes no sense. The oil pump is going to suck no matter what, think about when you slurp on a straw. Same thing. Thanks for watching!

      @@MykhailoLebediev-ng7xiyou have a huge misunderstanding of the oiling system and in reality, heavy duty trucks HAVE to do this so you don't starve certain parts of the engine for a few moments on startup (certified heavy duty mechanic). It's not usually necessary on automotive engines, as some are mounted sideways, but it isn't a bad practice. I recommend reviewing some basics

      I have a technical background. what you write is funny. find me a manual where it is written. Ford does not recommend doing this. you're wrong

    • @lukeWiz44
      @lukeWiz44 Год назад +2

      my understanding is it’s not necessary but doesn’t hurt. just means that oil will get to the upper valve train a few milliseconds quicker.
