    Excellent tips and a job performed with strong attention to detail. Unfortunately there are some bad dealers and I have worked in the past for some.

    Hi Dave, another excellent video.First time I did a fuel filter change on my MK4 mondeo, you have to pull diesel up from the tank as it doesn't have a pump in the tank. I struggled for half an hour to get the return line fuel clip undone. I popped up the locking clip, but didn't know you then had to PUSH DOWN on the clip, lucky I did not break it. Your video makes it so easy to do it correctly. Keep the videos coming! I always look forward to them

    Good watch Dave . Worked with fella who’s car was been serviced by Ford and his car cut out with a dirty fuel filter. He said it was something to do with the service plan with Ford. They would do 2 minor services which was just oil and filter then a major which is all the filters. Service just isn’t a service anymore with the main dealers

      aye Jack, i see it all the time. If a car has been to the dealer, expect engine oil service only at best. I had a BMW in one time that had been to the dealer. All they did was change the wiper blades.

      Considering what they charge, you should consider yourself lucky they didn’t do more than just the wiper blades. 😉

    Thanks for the great videos Dave please keep them coming.
    Great tip about the white retaining clips having the press the main body back in, not just pull out the tap and heave!

    I connect the supply from tank pipe first and suck the fuel from the tank to fill the filter bowl through the feed to pump using massive syringe. Then connect the pump supply pipe. Just saves having a can of diesel sitting around.

    How brittle will that diesel filter cap be in another 4 years? Plastic is a great material but I’m not sure it’s such a great choice in that environment.
    You’re a great teacher Dave! You not only meticulously show what you’re doing but you also explain why. It’s always a joy to watch your videos.

    Thanks Dave, the oil on the threads is a very good tip. They can be very fragile so anything that help avoid breakages & I must watch out for the oil filters coming loose. 🙏👍

      @davesterl  2 года назад +1

      Yes Peter, i looked into the oil filter being loose and it is a known issue. I thought initially it was just this particular car but no.

      @@davesterl that’s 1 you’d have to be very careful with. My insurance man wouldn’t like me if an oil filter fell off after a month 😯
      And by the way I’m nearly on 800 subs, thanks again 🙏

    Thanks for the vid 👍🏻 I purchased a kuga with full service history and decided to do some basics myself, so I did cabin filter and it was absolutely full of crud and rubbish and was not put in correctly and actually quite damaged from I presume forcibly putting it in, I then changed the air filter and it was full of rubbish and crud and I’m soon going to do the fuel filter and expecting it to be yes you’ve guessed full of rubbish and crud, full service my bottom !
    Sad world we live in when garages can’t even do basic car servicing 🤬
    You pay a good price and expect things to be done to a high professional standard by trained mechanics but nope, might as well do it yourself if you cherish your vehicle.
    Rant over 😅

    My Edge has just gave up on the way to work today, engine just stopped, it would turn over but not fire, breakdown guy came after 5 hours and said there's no fuel pressure, towed it to a garage where I've just walked back from, I hope 100% it's the fuel filter but my luck it won't.
    I had an S-max and that has the fuel filter in the same place, never got to change mine as the plastic nut on top started splitting and couldn't open it, what a dumb design, or maybe a sneaky one to sell the caps for stupid money.

    Great video Dave, dont we love plastic fuel lines and clips , our climate is not the best , hot and cold from the engine makes them so brittle, the plastic 1/2 turn sump plugs with an R clip on modern stuff is crazy , I dont like brake cleaner anywhere near airboxes after one decided it would pick up the revs once big time , even after 30 mins before starting , I use carb cleaner now 😉

    • @davesterl
      @davesterl  2 года назад +1

      aye mike, i rem you said before about the brake cleaner. The stuff i use (altho i think its all pretty much the same) is polyguard. A quick once over with the cloth and evaps very quickly, or a quick toot with the air gun and gone. Carb cleaner is a lot stronger and can melt ABS based plastics (sewer pipe plastic)

    • @garyreeves7533
      @garyreeves7533 2 года назад

      Yeah, Carb cleaner is a stronger solvent and more likely to fuel the engine than brake cleaner. A good flash off and / wiping down as Dave did is normal ok. Pools of any solvent in the bottom of the filter will likely run an engine on its own for a short while
