Hi, I just bought 2014 Ford Edge Limited (60K). I was driving infiniti Fx 45 for 15 years. I like to keep cars. Your tips are very valuable for me, thanks. I will follow your advice and hope she will last me at least 10-12 years. Thank you for your time.
The rear differentials are not suffering the heat issues the PTU is. However a change to the differential fluid should occur at the time you change the transmission fluid as a rule of thumb. I change my transmission fluid by 50-60K miles, or once a year.
Theres no way to get all the oil out of the PTU without a drain plug. Just suck out as much as you can. It will be black sludge. Mix it with fresh gear lube then take out as much as you can again after maybe 1,000 miles. Enough for it to mix with new fluid. Keep doing it until the fluid siphoned is way clearer. Gear oil is not that expensive. A new PTU with labor is big money.
thanks a lot for the useful information, I have question about my car, it's a ford edge 2013 SEL FWD which I bought it last week from ford centre( agency ) in my country ( Iraq). It’s totally new (0 mile).I don’t know if all fluid engine has been checked/changed by them (ford agency staff) and as you know there is a huge difference between them and the USA ford agency in terms of QA/QC and the experience as well. My question is (Do I have to ask them about fluid change, especially as the car was parked and stored for three years? Sorry for the bad English language and thanks in advanced….
If in doubt (and you are in doubt) change every fluid then you will be sure of the condition of the fluids, Brake fluid, Engine oil, Coolant, Transmission fluid and Power Steering fluid. If you have not joined MACTFORDEDGE facebook group please do so. My page moderator is a Ford Technician in Iraq.
hi, i just bought a ford edge 2011 Limited FWD, and it has coolant orange i just read the manual and the one that corresponds is dark green. the previous owner apparently made a mistake using orange coolant. should I flush and use dark green as the manual says?

Thank you for this video. Can I trust a regular garage to be able to drain and refill the PTU fluid? I have a 2017 edge titanium
Hi Bill, what about the differential oil?

I have a 2013 ford edge. When does the transmission filter need to be changed.
Thanks Great video!!!

I'm surprised no information on the junk PTUs on these Ford AWD vehicles.
However, the heat is the culprit.
I am sure I am not the only one wondering where these components/dipsticks are located (beside under the hood) to check fluids levels!!

Thanks for making this helpful video
On my 2007 edge sel It has Mercon V in the cap. Should I use that or switch to Mercon LV? Thanks
How many quarts on a trans drain and fill 5 quarts ?
Lol @ Amsoil...would cost me $180 a year plus filter if I even used it only once a year.
Joseph Bentley worth the cost. Use it in my vehicles.....increases gas mileage 1-2 mpg and also reduces engine heat in my ATV.
I will believe what the manual says. Not you
