  • Located near Prescott, Arizona is Watson Lake Park, a hidden wonderland of the Granite Dells, a picturesque lake, a historic old dam, & plentiful trails. This spectacular location is a must-see destination of Arizona's finest.
Arizona may be thought of as nothing but dry desert but located near Prescott is a manmade lake named Watson Lake. Situated in the Granite Dells, hiking trails weave through and over large granite boulders and a fascinating landscape that feels like a playground for those wanting a weekend day trip from the Phoenix valley.
Creating the lake is the Granite Creek dam which was completed in 1915. The lake was created with the intent of bringing irrigation to the surrounding valleys where crops and orchards resided. Unfortunately, the canals and flumes built to transfer the water did not work out, however, the lake still stands today.
Popular activities in Watson Lake Park include hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Swimming is not allowed. Camping is available during the summer months.

Looks amazing. Reminds me a little bit of Hetch Hetchy. Always crazy how much trust we are still putting in 100+ year old dams!

Completely see the similarities despite the lack of trees that Hetch Hetchy has. I'm sure the engineers know best about the dams but agree... So much work for such an old thing.

Loved the terrain in this one! And thankfully, no apocalypse in sight, crushed velvet or otherwise.

Welcome to my backyard! My wife and I go there all the time and it never gets old! You really need to drop a kayak into the water at some point, it's an amazing place to paddle around in the crystal clear water and among the beautiful dells.

I can only imagine how spectacular the views are from the lake. We'd just need a kayak and vehicle to get it there. 😂

It really would be! With as many trails as there are around the lake and the area, it would make for some fantastic photography!

26 years of living and hiking around Arizona, this is one of my favorite places! We kayaked and camped but I didn’t see the dam. It is freaky to think how old it is. I hope it lasts another 100 years! 😊❤️ One of the places where you stood I recognize a huge rock with a larger rock balanced on top. I did a painting of that spot. Complete with ducks begging for yum yums. 😉❤️ Well done sir!

That was some gorgeous landscape there, Glenn.
As far as the white dots...I hear of so many people who get lost on trail, sometimes with fatal results. Those dots could save lives.

It's surreal, isn't it? Arizona has so much variety. As for the dots... It does make it easier for those w/ less wayfinding experience who might not recognize or notice cairns for sure. 👍

The scenery of granite and water was mesmerizing but somewhat surprising there was so much water considering the drought you guys are in. A beautiful trek into nature with wonderful landscape and you made us want to get our boots on and go hiking. Another gorgeous video with music and inspiring landscape.

I'll blame it on the Pink Dots! You and the handful of other people that didn't have to Google that LOL🤣How you pulled that obscure 80s band I'll never know.

Oh, I’ve listened to some strange stuff in my time. Was big into the goth and industrial music scene at one point in my life. Some of it I still like to this day! That’s why I usually road trip alone, or else I might freak people out with my musical taste. Everything from Gram Parsons to Skinny Puppy. 😂
