  • We are installing double gates on our property. This video is about a large double gate, but the principles are the same in all gates. Gate Installation doesn't have to be hard, and it can be done with simple tools. We used Fast2K to install our post. See the link to @Fast 2K below. #builditfast2k

I like the drill bit, it says "I mean business" 😄 You're exactly right about the hinges Tony, all the weight of the gate would be on one hinge and would increase wear. And as that happens, the gates would start sagging. We all have a right to our private property. If people want theirs open, then they can do that. But most of us don't like intrusions into our personal space. And that's totally understandable. Good work Tony!! Keep it up!! 😎👍

I also love your lag security. the fact of the mater is that a harbor freight saw could cut through many parts of a gate. All we can do is make it a little harder to keep honest men honest. We all do some things our own way for our own reasons and it doesn't make anyway wrong. More than one way to skin a cat. Don't start worrying what people think.

Not sure how anyone saying the hinge was upside down was being ugly but your weight is still on your bottom hinge pretty much. If you set the gate on the bottom hinge with a tightened clamp, then slide the top one by hand down to meet the top bolt, the weight is still on the bottom for the most part there is literally no easy way to match that weight. The forces on a gate are pushing into the post at the bottom and pulling out at the top. So in the end you can put that top one in either direction you want or do you what you did because most of the vertical weight is on the bottom hinge. I was glad to see you used a box end wrench to install the hinge bolts though, way faster and easier than a crescent wrench. My crescent has a hole big enough in the other end to use on these. As a fellow you tuber, my classic disclaimer is, this might not be "the" way to do it, but it is "a" way and the way I am doing it. Keeps naysayers away.

Interesting with the lag bolt. Grandpa always had us do the reversing pin on top so the cows couldn't lift the gate off while rubbing on it. Street side some reflective tape or screw on reflectors.....plus a no trespassing sign posted!!!! What are you going to do when you forget the gate opener or it is in the truck and you are on the tractor....do you have an area to park while the other arrives??? or an implement / package is delivered and you are late or it comes early???

The gate opener will have a keypad. Only 4 cars a day go down this road, so I am not worried about the other stuff. The rest, we will figure out.

Sorry you’re having to deal with all the ‘experts’. Gotta love social media. I did go over possibilities for security in my head, if it were my property, which it’s not, when I watched the first video. Reality is no matter what you do you won’t keep out a serious criminal, you can just keep the teenage/opportunity seeking riffraff moving on to a softer target. The posts are wood. Serious criminals would push them over or take an electric chain saw to one of them and be in and out in a flash. Not a lot you can do about that if you’re not living on site yet. Anyway, well done on the videos as usual.
