We are installing gates on our property. This video is about a large gate, but the principles are the same in all gates. Gate Installation doesn't have to be hard, and it can be done with simple tools. We used Fast2K to install our post. See the link to @Fast 2K below. #builditfast2k

Watch this before you make a comment about the hinge pin placement being wrong. ruclips.net/video/saz48w4kXjY/видео.html
Your top hinge pin needs to face down to prevent someone from simply lifting the gate the gate off the hinges.
If they go to that trouble, the gate was not going to stop them.
I agree with this and my cresent has a big enough hole to put over the pin to use for install or a socket wrench over the bent pin.
Nice idea
@@TonysTractorAdventure I hate that when people reply like you just did, accept the advice and that's it
Enjoyed this video Tony and Tanja. Nice demonstration on how to do it.
Nice video as always! We have horses on our property and have had gates inadvertently lifted off the pins by the animals. To prevent this I turned the top pins downward. No more lifted gates.
Thank you. Only deer here.
@@TonysTractorAdventure and potential trespassers which I think was the reason you hung the gate.
If the trespasser wants in, they will get in. This is just a deterrent.
That's what I was gonna suggest keep ppl from lifting gate off pins
But if you turn the top hinge down, the gate may not disappear in the middle of the night!
I installed dozens of those gates while working for the USFS. I always turned the top pin upside down to keep people from lifting the gate off the pins. My sign says, "Trespassers will be shot". 😁 By the way, I have that same hat!
I was going to tell them also to turn the upside pin to prevent people from lifting up the gate ........ without tools off course
Didn't understand that either, you never set a gate with mounts going same direction. At least that's how I was taught.
U R all correct
Top pin faces down
Yep top pin faces down, this is why the top eye lit is adjustable, then as an extra measure put a self taper threw the side of the hing and gate
There is another way to secure the gate while not having all the weight on just the lower pin.
Looks great Toni. I use the circle end of the crescent wrench also for turning the screw bolts in. The folks below said the rest for added security. Over all you guys did a great job, and looks perfectional. Thanks for sharing
If you look closer, I was surprised to find this adjustable wrench had a small square hole. It wouldn't fit. I will put a small lag bolt over the bottom hinge to keep people from lifting the gate. That way all of the gate's weight is distributed over both hinges. It should last a long time.
Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I’m fixing to tackle a similar project and this gave me the confidence to know my wife and I can tackle it ourselves.
Another project well done by you two! Coincidentally I was telling my neighbor yesterday about Fast 2K and how you use it on all your posts. We have 3 sections of cypress fence to replace between us thanks to IAN but I am not complaining compared to others. I am going to use it for the first time on the new posts in the next couple of weeks. As far as more expensive a back strain carry concrete bags and the possibility of a trip to the doctor or ER would cost way more. My dad always said “Son work smarter not harder”. In this case Fast 2K smarter 😀The older I get the more valuable that statement is becoming!
I put a link in the video description. The Deck anchor is the only one I will use.
That’s a great idea mate your wife is so right the view looks amazing you both has a lovely place I LOVE IT!
Thank you
Awesome explanation of the difference between Y2K an concrete Tony. I've never used Y2K before but I totally agree with what you said. I also saw your video of pulling the post apart when you demonstrated trying to pull it out of ground. Remarkable stuff.
Concrete has its place for sure, but I like Fast2K for wood post.
I read some of the comments about making the gate stronger. Like you said Tony, it's just a deterrent. With enough time and effort, any place can be broken into, even padlocks and chains can be cut....however....the idea is to make it as tough as possible for someone to get in. Criminals want places they can get into and back out of QUICKLY. They don't want to spend too much time trying to break in. And with the gate, if someone does get in, they risk getting caught if they take too much time trying to defeat the security measure. The gate looks great!! Nice work my friend! 👍😎
Thank you. I put a lag bolt over the lowest pin for security. I just didn't have one that day. Some of the comments below were so mean, I deleted the comments. Part of being on RUclips.
looks great Tony, good job!
Thank you
Nice job Tony, measure twice and install right once. Have a great week ahead.
Thank you
Great video thanks Tony and Tanya
Thank you.

God Bless you and your son.
Keep up with awesome videos!!!
Thanks! Will do!
Looks good, good job, you got a good wife and helper. I'm watching and learning thank you.
Looks great.
It is still holding up well.
Good job thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching!
I came to post that the hinge was wrong, but already noticed that several had posted about it. 😄
It is all good.
The gate looks great, nice job! According to the video, is looks like this was not your first gate install. Thanks for the video.
I grew up on a farm with pigs and cattle. 👍
Loved the video, Tony. But it's hilarious to see how many people will write a comment without taking the time to read other comments first! It lets us see how much patience you have when replying. 🙂 BTW, If you turn that top pin................. LOL
I get beat up many times because I didn't do it the way they were taught. I put a small lag bolt over the bottom welded hinge.i just did have one that day.
Nice job. On my install, I was reluctant at first about using the open hole at the wrench handle to screw in the hinge bolts thinking it would break but it worked great and was a lot easier than constantly trying to get a good hold with the jaws.
If you look closer, I was surprised to find this adjustable wrench had a small square hole. It wouldn't fit. Still, I appreciate your comment.
@@TonysTractorAdventure Yep, to be used for what it was intended for...to hang it on a hook. BTW, I wish my dog was as well-behaved as yours! Keep posting as an owner of a small farm, I have gotten a lot of good ideas from them. Thanks.
Thank you.
Large vice grips put on very tight also works
I’m so sorry it’s just I used mine to do it but yours is bigger then the one I but up mate but I’m so happy that you got back to me so quickly you and your Wife are both great people God bless you both and also I really love your dog he is great love to you both bro.
God bless my friend
It's funny you doing this. Angel and I were just talking about adding a gate in because of trespassers on our trailcams. Thanks for blazing this trail for me. I don't think there is any problem with putting the fence with gravity on both hinges. If somebody really wanted through it would be faster to bring a bolt cutter and cut the chain then to lift the gate off.
Thank you, my friend. I put a small lag bolt over the bottom hinge. I talked about it in the following video.
Good job!
Thank you
Great video!👍🏻
Thank you
Love it nice job
Thank you
Great Job!!! The large log is just big enough to use as a seat if you had to!!! Use to change boots to shoes to drive... or a resting place, stop to get a drink, fix a Flat spot or 2 to place pot of flowers or plants once Tanya gets the green house open and running!!!! Drill a hole in and place a metal post with a wind chime... etc.....👻👻👻👻🎃🎃🎃🎃
Yes sir. So many possibilities. It will be so nice around here in a year or so.
Tony you did a really good job as usual. I just wanted to point out one little point. The top hanger should be facing down. Then you can’t just lift on the gate and have it fall off the hinge. Just give it another half turn or back it off a half turn. I think you still have plenty of adjustment in that top hanger. Later my friend
Thank you. I appreciate that.
A big box end wrench will be easier to use to tighten that fence hanger.
Or, even using the hanger hole in the crescent wrench if it is big enough. Billy
The hole on this adjustable wrench was not big.
Some thing to help with lag bolts a little Dawn on the thread’s will make a big difference.
Good idea, but it was not bad.
You can use the hole in the back of the handle of your cresent wrench to twist on the hinge lag screws, bit easier way to screw them in
HAVE A REALLY GREAT DAY TONY AND TANYA AND BEAUTIFUL GIZMO .
Thank you my friend
I just replaced 40 feet of fence after building my shop and I used 6X6 on the end post and 4X4 for the middle post and that was the quickest and best way I've ever used. Quick , Clean, and we waited until after lunch before finishing the build, about 35 mins. Even my wife said how nice it was and fast, The next time she went shopping she bought 8 more bags of it, So I'm guessing she has some plans for me.
Honey, do list!
Looks good. If people want in they will find a way it's kinda sad work hard for something and other people just do as they want.
I was taught to have pins face each other. Easy with your gate to lift gate off at hinge side.
Thank you for the information
40% of the comments are about the top hinge bolt being installed wrong. Yes, if someone wants in badly enough they will find a way. The point is to make it more difficult, it will be impossible to keep out someone that is determined. Having the hinge bolt installed the other way and the bolt on the slide tightened with a double nut makes it more difficult. Using a jam nut to lock the nut will make it harder for someone to back it off using an adjustable wrench.
People love to sharp shoot! I love the comments, because it makes my channel grow!
I'd never heard of Fast 2K. I've always just used gravel around posts and the ones I helped my dad put up at his house in the mid 1990s are still as sturdy now as they were 30 years ago. But that was back before the 2003 arsenic ban. The ones I put on my property have only been in the ground since August 2016, so we'll see how long they last. I offset the top pin a little so the gate wants to naturally tilt in one direction instead of sit perfectly level and want to flop one way or the other.
Used Auger many times to set gate posts. We are in drought and ground is extremely hard. Red clay soils and no rain for two months = ground that is hard as concrete. Auger as much as you can, fill hole with water and allow to sink in. Repeat as needed and eventually you will get to softer soil with a little moisture content.
It has been ridiculously dry.
Tony, I think that I would add another sign right next to that one that says: "Due to the high cost of ammunition, there will be no warning shot!" I have one on my garage that reads: "If you can read this you're in range." 😁😁👍
I know you are being funny, but those signs have real legal liabilities. For example, if you did have to defend yourself on your property, and someone died. Some prosecutors my use your sign as intent. I has already happened on more than one occasion. I am a big 2A guy.
@@TonysTractorAdventure Yes, I was being funny but those signs are all over the place where I live. It's just a friendly reminder to trespassers to respect other people's rights and property in a humorous way. 😊
The top hinge should be flipped or someone could easily pick the gate up off the hinges
If they want in that bad, the gate is not going to stop them.
@@TonysTractorAdventure this is very true
Hi Tony I see now that the Army Mechanics use the crescent wrench on EVERYTHING. Ron USCG RET also a mechanic on ships.
Yes Sir! Multiple purposes tool😁
Used one years ago on a 20 hp tractor . Screwed the auger into the ground more than once
Watch my video on how to use a post hole digger on small HP tractors. It will help you greatly with that problem.
With two tresspasser's you could just lift the gate off the hinge side. I think that the top bolt should be turned down so that it can't be removed so easily from the post.
It is just a deterrent.
I have people ask me why I don't use concrete around my fence posts. I ask them when the post needs changed will they want to dig out the concrete for me. Never had one person say they would dig out the concrete. Top hinge bolt should point down. Gate can be lifted off with both pointing up.
I keep both hinge bolts up to better balance the load. I put in a lag bolt over the bottom hinge so it can't lift it up. Still, they can get in if they want. I could cut the post off in 15 seconds. With Fast2k, these post will out live me.
Use the hole in the bottom of the Crescent wrench, much easier to tighten those pins.
Please take a look at the hole in the bottom of my adjustable wrench.
Thinking about using Fast2K on my front ranch gate style entrance, using 10”10”x26’ Douglas fur pressure treated timber’s, buried 6’ in the ground, and like the idea that this product will be able to minimize wood rot. Any tricks/suggestions on pouring several bags to fill a hole? Thinking I’ll need to let each bag set cure prior to using another bag of Fast2K… thanks for the videos and keep up the great projects!
Yes sir. Let it set for 5 minutes in between each pour. After your last pour, you can start building 30 minutes later.
Boy we know who the boss is ,she must have and officer.
You know it. LOL!
Use the hole on the crescent to tighten.
Look at the hole in the crescent! Not a hole, but a small square.
Like Doug says Tony you have to turn the top pin downward and bring your hinge bracket up or your intruders will just lift the gate off the hinges.
ruclips.net/video/saz48w4kXjY/видео.html
The top pin needs to be pointed down or your gate can just be lifted off . Not secure.
If they go to that trouble, the gate was coming down anyway.
I usually put the top pin facing down so they can't lift the gate up and then open without a wrench.
I put a small lag bolt over the bottom pin. That way, the weight of the gate is evenly distributed on both pins. I forgot to bring them.
Wow, I can't even imagine digging that hole by hand!
It is not bad in the spring, but dang it is hard in late summer
Deep well socket on a pivot head breaker bar is a great hinge pin installer. I prefer that over the crescent hammer myself. I'm going to look into that fast 2k. Didn't know much about it.
To everyone saying he put the top pin on wrong if anyone seriously wants through they won't have any trouble. I'd rather they lift the gate off than destroy it. This is a keep honest people honest gate not protecting Fort Knox.
Thank you. I had what I had with me, and didn't want to drive 15 miles back home to get different tools. I also put a lag bolt over the bottom hinge. That offers a little more security.
Question regarding the fast 2k method, what about the bottom of the post? It would be exposed to dirt, free to wick up ground moister, and the end of the post is what I usually concern myself with the most when setting posts
It pushes a small film of Fast2K under the post. Rot requires three things. Oxygen, water and bacteria. Rot happens 6 to 8 inches from the surface into the ground. The other parts of the posts last for years. Protects the first 6 to 8 inches.
You actually ask for advice and when you get it you just buck up and argue - THE TOP PIN POINTS DOWN!!
Art from Ohio
I am always open to advice. It doesn't mean I will use it. I put a GRK screw over the bottom pin. I think it is a better way. Also, you don't see the bad comments. I was called dumb a#@, Stupid F&$k etc over a gate pin.
Turn the top hing pin over to point down so the gate can't be set off the hinges. As the way you have it a person can pull or pry it off the hinges. The other way is to lag screw a piece of angel metal over the bottom pin to prevent removal.
All good ideas
Yep, alway put the top pin down, at least it makes trespassers have to work a little harder to get in.
GOOD BOY GIZMO.
He is always working and guarding
I always turn the top pin down. Otherwise it can be easily lifted off and your trespasser can get in.
They could do that, but it is just a deterrent.
How old were those post laying in the background with concrete on them at minute 11:18, they appear to be still solid?
You misinterpreted what you saw. We use the backhoe to dig up those two posts. Those posts had fast 2K around them. I couldn't pull them up with a tractor.
Use the other end of the wrench to spin those lags in
The adjustable wrench has a square hole. It will not fit.
I WAS WONDERING IF FAST 2 K IS AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA.
I heard it was
Put the top pin pointing down, the way you have it anyone can lift the gate off the pins.
Thank you. That is good information.
Where can I get fast 2 k and how much to use on a 6x6 pole barn post?
Lowe's sells it. They have chart on their website. You will need to know the post size, the hole depth, and the hole diameter.
Can I say how about doing it with the hole on the end of your tool it my work better just saying mate that’s all I’m no way tell you how to do your Job thanks love it always best wishes to you both.
The hole is not large enough.
Tony theres a mistake on the hinges the top one should looking down and you hook up the one that was on the gate the purpose is that you can lift the gate and takes out from the hinges
Thank you. I will get on it.
You need to turn the top hing down word yea it holds it singer and it won't come out of place I know what I'm talking about
Nope, lag bolt over the bottom hinge. It helps to evenly carry weight on both hinges.
Tony, what diameter auger did you use? 8"?
I use 12" only because it was already on. If I was doing a lot of this, I would have went with a 9" auger
how heavy of a gate can you put on a round 6" wooden post?
I don't know.
WHAT'S TO STOP SOMEBODY FROM LIFTING THE GATE OFF THE HINGE.
Nothing. These gates are like paper thin. If they want in, the gate will not stop them.
So is there any concern about the bottom of the pole because its touching the ground? Also what stops someone from lifting the hinged side off the pins? Curious because I am looking to do the same type of project.
No concerns about either. The gate is a deterrent. The foam pushes under the post. There is also very little oxygen at that level. Posts rot at the first 6" in the ground.
@@TonysTractorAdventure Thanks for the quick response Tony and you cleared up my post question. I am wondering if someone was determined could they lift the gate at the hinged side? I thought the top pin faced down so that couldn't happen. I am no expert and never installed a gate so wanted to ask.
Hey bud, the locked chain won’t do you much good if you don’t turn the top pin down. Folks will will lift the gate off the hinges. Nonetheless, good job.
Thank you
How do you prevent idiots lifting the gate of its hinges?
You use the backhoe to bury the stupid ones!
If they want in, they will get in. I had rather not ruin the gate.
The top pin goes downwards
Are you sure
@@TonysTractorAdventure keeps people from lifting the gate off the pins
I am glad I made that little mistake. It has caused so many comments on my video, thereby growing my channel.
Ol" boy knows when to listen to the wife.
My wife is a tough cookie.
I hope u guys are missing around, there should only be one boss
I think we are fine. We have been happily married for over 30 years. Thinking there is only one boss is a bit naive.
Top Hinge bolt needs to be turned down~
I appreciate your point of view.
She’s difficult
Bless your heart.
Wouldn't it be nice if people would just respect other people and stay off of property that does not belong to them. Then we wouldn't be out the expense and time to have to put up a gate. It drives me nuts that I'm constantly having to buy and put up no trespassing signs because of people taking them down.
I wholeheartedly agree! I spend thousands of dollars each year to keep people off our property.
@@TonysTractorAdventure yep me too.
It’s ridiculous you have to tell people to stay off your property. If you don’t own it, you should be smart enough to stay off. We have a lot of idiots in our country now.

She is annoying
I've worked on gates with both pins facing down but those gates were always inside the the property and not a security feature, they just divided certain spaces: dog run, trashcans, pool pump, side gate or separate building on the property.
I just put a lag bolt over the bottom hinge. It is a cheap and easy fix that keeps weight on both hinges.
