As we got to the stadium and parked, we were puzzled by the giant gaggle of groupies surrounding the fence through which the stars' limos would enter - stunning beauties, dressed in their best, 60 or 80 of them. Tommy still hammers the skins the best that i have ever seen live. Saw them earlier this year and he still keeps the best backbeat i have ever heard! My favorite guitar player and drummer in the same band.....Whoo Whoo!!

This is truly one of his best live performance I have seen! along with Friends (ACL 2001) Are You Experienced/Cliffs Of Dover/Trail Of Tears (ACL 1988) Both the guitar playing and singing was great and spot on here! I miss this old guitar tone a lot!
Same here! He had outstanding equipment, tone, a dumble, and more echo and sustain/reverb making a three-piece unit sound like so much more. Some talk negatively about his reverb and echo but that's what caught my ear initially back in '88! At his peak during this period sound-wise IMO.
Man I miss that Rig O' Tone! - 100W Marshalls - Stereo Twin Reverb heads and that Dumble! That MXR Flanger! Tommy & Kyle killing it ~ Just plain Ol' Badass!
The shots of his left hand are amazing. The trick is to get as much music as possible with is little hand movement as possible. The work comes in actually doing it.
My wife and I saw EJ at the Birchmere Theater in Alexandria VA several years ago. Front row seats. LOUD. Great show. After his encore he started to walk off stage. I jumped up holding a black marker and plastic Stratocaster vibrato cover hoping for an autograph. He paused, looked at me, turned again to leave, paused again, then came back and signed the cover. I told him what a great show it was and he thanked me.

Met him many years ago in a bar on 6th street in Austin, Texas. Very unassuming and genuinely good guy. His guitar work is legendary with Hendrix like playing styles. One of the best in the business.
Not only is the guitar technique and playing ability completely amazing, the multitasking ability is astounding! I had the privilege of seeing him in concert last night at a small venue in Albany, New York. Both EJ and his back up band were totally jammin! 🎸🤘
A very Fender sound, some Fuzz, Flanger, Overdrive and a lover of analog delays, and that versatility, with those triad-shaped chords that make Eric Johnson's sound, a heavenly sound. A master of tone.
Even with Tommy's snare breaking this is one of the best performances of this track. This is one tight band & i can only bet the rest of this show must have been amazing . Eric is one fine songcrafter & his playing just speaks for it self ...
Great performance! The first song that I heard from Ah Via Musicom - KILO out of Colorado Springs served this up as I was driving toward the snow-capped Sangre de Cristo range - it was glorious. The day my dad died, a bookmark in time for me. Thanks for sharing this gem!
Without a doubt, the pinnacle of a storied career! A+ backing section in Kyle and Tommy and Eric with what many consider his best rig and sound set up. Such a legendary clip.. notice that the snare dies midway through song, but EJ and the band just continue like a boss 🔥🤘🏽. And those 3 full stack Marshalls with the flanger 3:20 😩😩. Who else is watching from Denmark? 🤘🏽✌🏾
Everything working. Amps, guitar, pedals, he's in excellent voice, Tommy and Kyle are prefect, incredible mix. One of the best performances in rock history.
He was (still is) crazy good! Obviously he's a master on his instrument but his style is really cool, too, a blend of 80's new wave and blues, brilliant!
What amaze's me is he close's his eye's more than any sighted player I have seen. So elegant is his playing ability it reminds me of a beautiful Harp piece playing rock and roll. He and Steve Morse are some of the best players out there but he is low key which means he simply love's music. Keep it up Eric, you are the best.
Awesome song, awesome playing..Love how the roadies and techs aren't paying attention at all to the drummers head movements saying something is up. Props to the him for keeping it going.

Tommy still hammers the skins the best that i have ever seen live. Saw them earlier this year and he still keeps the best backbeat i have ever heard! My favorite guitar player and drummer in the same band.....Whoo Whoo!!
Agree that Tommy and Kyle are and always have been good best lineup i had the pleasure of meeting then all in Raleigh NC in 94 got there it was sold out by mere luck ran into Kyle as we were walking to our car to leave and he hands us 2 tickets and backstage passes got all my stuff signed by them all got killer photos they were all the nicest guys
THAT AUSTIN CITY LIMITS SHOW EXCELLENT.
High landrons and desert rose have the best runs I've ever heard
Those are my go-to tracks!
Eric was on fire that day. Unbelievable.
His tones and mind over matter phrasing and bends/ vibrato / lines/ chords on this are just amazing .......
When I need a smile.... Eric Johnson is my go to, time and time again...
Eric Johnson was definitely channeling his inner Eric Johnson on this cut. ;)
I told him what a great show it was and he thanked me.
finding words to describe how amazing this performance is evades me. Perfection! Thank you for sharing!
My take: "High Landrons" = mythical mountain range representing spiritual goals.
Who is the "Mountain Guide"? ESV
Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name? Surely you know! Prov. 30:4
God I want to see this whole show so badly
JHC......i continue to find something unique and otherworldly every time i watch this! Marshall stacks, Fender Twins, "Strat bends", a Dumble(s)and EJ's fingers flyin'! I know for a fact if Eric ever decided to launch a "Throwback Tour" with this setup and sound(if still feasible), getting a ticket to experience this would be a challenge.....but one EVERY fan would gratefully accept. "Throwback Tour".......i see T-Shirt sales galore as well goin' thru the roof! What a unique concept tour for the fans.....a "Throwback Tour"!
He still uses a lot of old stuff, modern Signature strats, old Marshall Heads, some old effects
and finally in 2018, we had the Ah Via Musicom tour! Now, i am already in line for Venus Isle Revisited!
I was going to say - that day is here!
thanks God!!!! For giving us Eric Johnson
Je ne me lasse plus d'écouter et de prendre modèle sur le maître. Et quel son inventé une époque où les modélisations et autres.... n'existaient pas. Thank you Éric!❤❤❤
...inventé à une époque..
Met him many years ago in a bar on 6th street in Austin, Texas. Very unassuming and genuinely good guy. His guitar work is legendary with Hendrix like playing styles. One of the best in the business.
Eric is my favorite guitarist hands done being from Texas myself. Only seen live once due to military commitments
Saw him on tour kick ass live ❤❤❤😊
No not a symphony orchestra
A mere trio 😮
Genius
Not only is the guitar technique and playing ability completely amazing, the multitasking ability is astounding! I had the privilege of seeing him in concert last night at a small venue in Albany, New York. Both EJ and his back up band were totally jammin! 🎸🤘
Kyle Brock on bass and Tommy Taylor are great too.
Eric Johnson is a god playing guitar.
I was fortunate to see him play in Atlanta around this time, when he was promoting the "Ah Via Musicom" album.
Best vocal performance I’ve heard from him.....
Eric's a total wizard!
Something therapeutic about his tone. I don't know how he found that sound, but it is as if his strings are made of radioactive silk.
Got a tab book ( i play guitar) in the fwd he says he wanted to make music that heals people, he def SUCCEEDED imho!
Eric Johnson chords are easy.
Just stretch your fingers 8 frets and catch low E with your nose.
Done
@@mikeglasgow6656 Idk y But this comment is really funnit imo
A very Fender sound, some Fuzz, Flanger, Overdrive and a lover of analog delays, and that versatility, with those triad-shaped chords that make Eric Johnson's sound, a heavenly sound. A master of tone.
Voice, guitar, bass, drums...♥ I would have loved to see him do a live session with Jeff Beck !
Even with Tommy's snare breaking this is one of the best performances of this track. This is one tight band & i can only bet the rest of this show must have been amazing . Eric is one fine songcrafter & his playing just speaks for it self ...
I love this music in the entire album, thank you Eric Johnson ❤😂❤😂❤😂❤
This performance is right up there with the 88' ACL one, maybe even better. Mind-blowing.
That insane run at 3:56! My face melted.
It looks like the videi is sped up. 🎉
somebody tell me how people could just be walking around, oblivious, while Eric is playing, singing... boggles my mind. smh. He is the Master.
Great performance! The first song that I heard from Ah Via Musicom - KILO out of Colorado Springs served this up as I was driving toward the snow-capped Sangre de Cristo range - it was glorious. The day my dad died, a bookmark in time for me. Thanks for sharing this gem!
Love this song 🎵 ❤️ 🎉
I'll always love this guy I first heard his music at an Air Force Base in Virginia and those were some great times
This song is so bad ass.
This is the only way High Landrons should ever be performed. Beautiful, Beauful, Beautiful, Beatifyl Boy. This was perfection. 💋Like Rain Baby, Anita
Without a doubt, the pinnacle of a storied career! A+ backing section in Kyle and Tommy and Eric with what many consider his best rig and sound set up. Are there any more videos from this day's performance? Hopefully so......cuz it's a smoker!! Thanks for posting......aaaaaaaaaaaaaaap
preciated greatly!!
In the category of “People Late to the Party”, I would like to nominate...myself.
So, I just found this video.
Yeah...I know it’s years old...but..MAN...what a great version!
In a way, I almost like this better than “Cliffs of Dover”.
Desert rose is also another masterpiece.
Love every single second of this song. Always since I first heard this from when I bought Ah Via Musicom on release. Cliffs of Dover, Forty Mile Town, etc. 🤟
Those chord progressions and harmonics combined with that flanger sound otherworldly! Simply Outstanding!
Such a legendary clip.. notice that the snare dies midway through song, but EJ and the band just continue like a boss 🔥🤘🏽.
And those 3 full stack Marshalls with the flanger 3:20 😩😩.
Who else is watching from Denmark? 🤘🏽✌🏾
eric is a sick singer, probably one of his most underappreciated talents imo
Everything working. Amps, guitar, pedals, he's in excellent voice, Tommy and Kyle are prefect, incredible mix. One of the best performances in rock history.
I'm not crying. You're crying!!!
What a moving performance - Got my subscription!
This performance is wild. Favorite EJ song. Working that Fuzz Face!
I just wish he expressed more joy physically when he plays. Smiling , Rocking out , he's too laid back and reserved... Eric fan forever...
After watching this 4 times in a row ..mesmerized by Eric's playing.. I just noticed he's at Red Rocks.. Saw The Moody Blues and Def Leppard there..Awesome!!
I like how he uses the guitar tone to temper his voice in this track.
Such a great live version of this song!
This is the first video where I've seen his face. He's a handsome thing.
Leo sun, Aries moon.
yeah the bass sounds great on this version. And this version generally kicks ass all round!
He not only helped define thats 80’s guitar sound, but brought in the 90s roughness along with it
