This isn’t a “duel.” It’s three consummate guitarists showing their admiration for each other.
Incredible guitar ensemble woud be the appropriate term imo 🥰
There is no a duel, it's a beautiful conversation.
Quite right
Yeah it is.... 😊
You are correct three fantastic guitarist's

Music isn’t a competition...
@@Chance-ry1hq tell that to the millions of wanna be youtubers lol
fossilmatic Thank you for that. I agree. Totally on point and exactly how I feel too.
For me, there is no talk about who is better. All three are masters of the guitar. But I will say that I much preferred Joe's tone to the other two. Now that could be cause it was his show/project, so he had everything he wanted...But, the three together was a gift that they even enjoyed, and as a player myself, that does not happen often, so when it does, it becomes a gift to those in the audience...👍🎸🎶🎵🎼
fossilmatic right on 👍😎
I think Josh and Joe would both agree. Had 1st row seats when I saw Tommy this year in Jacksonville. My face was sore for a week from smiling so much from that night. Lol. He is a gift from God for us to enjoy

More important look at the guys in the band behind Tommy. They know! ;)

He always looks like he's acting to me. With all those over the top guitar hero gestures he'd be a great air guitarist if he ever decided to go that way.
@@louissmith5298 tommy is the guitarists guitarist, 3 blokes buzzing on to the blues, heaven.....
When you compare thier playing, you figure out how much Tommy is creative and get out of the box, he just gives you that feeling any time he plays.
Such a legend 👏🏻
I saw Tommy and his brother, Phil, play at the Greengate Hotel, in Sydney, back in the early 80s. 2 guitarists, 2 guitars, both playing different parts….seems straightforward, except they each had their left hand on the other’s guitar. It just blew my mind.
Lucky you man, I made a cover of windy and warm, I learnt it from him and I put my modest flavour to it, that's the only thing I can play with my current abilities. I wish I could attend a live show he plays in.
Tommy Emmanuel is like a kid when he plays! I mean, he is enjoying so much. That gives the smile!
Joe B obviously is a huge fan of TE. Notice at 2:56 he nods at TE to play more, then when he does JB gets a huge grin. Shows TE can play any genre. All are extremely great as players and really smoked the stage that night.
I noticed that it made me smile lol
Tommy smiles like you or I would if we woke up tomorrow and could play like Tommy Emmanuel.
He's like Ronaldinho... havin' a bit of fun with the boys from Barcelona.
Josh Smiths solo at the start is unreal! The phrasing and feel he has is really special!

100% true. 👍
Thank you sir! I'm so tired of who's better bs... it's not the Olympics! Its art being played with passion by some great artists that love what they do!
Sounds nice and cuddly but it’s really about dick swinging.
Whoever is "best" is the one your ears tell you who you enjoy listening to
the most. The blues is not a speed contest, loudness or string bending contest.....in my opinion it's about taste and choosing the right notes. That's why I favor Robben Ford. He is always tasteful and doesn't overplay.
Three oustanding musicians, backed up by a superb rythm section.
and don't forget those wonderful girls on backing vocals..
Josh Smith is CRIMINALLY underrated!
He's not. Just because he's not famous in the eyes of 10 year old screaming girls, it doesn't mean that every guitar player in the whole wide world doesn't know he's one of the best at this moment.
@@mariodriessen9740 I hate comments like yours, if people feel that an artist is underrated it probably has merit in their eyes. You hearing of a particular musician doesn't mean that enough people know who he is. If I went out and asked 100 people do you think they'd all say they know who he is? I doubt they would, so he is underrepresented or more generally underrated. That's my .02 that nobody asked for but I felt like I needed to call you out on your unwanted .02. Have a nice day.
B. Cook ; I’m sorry I offended you, or anyone. I never intended to offend people. And maybe this will turn into a semantic matter, but there is, in my opinion anyway, a huge difference between being underrepresented or being underrated. I think we all agree that Josh Smith is a fabulous guitarist. And that’s exactly my point. He’s absolutely not underrated, but he is indeed underrepresented. However, you could say the exact same thing about a man like John Scofield, Danny Gatton and even Pat Metheny. Ask 100 random people and you’d be pleased to find two who know all of them. We’re on the same boat here. The only reason I reacted on this comment was to point out the fact that Josh is crazy good and I have never met a guitar player who believed otherwise. So does that make him underrated? Not in my world. And if he is, then he’s not the only person on that stage that’s underrated. And that’s the only point I was trying to make. I’m not a troll and I don’t feel the urge to bash anyone. Do great guitar players (or instrumentalists in general) get the praise they deserve? Absolutely not. Is it our ‘fault’? I don’t think so. I’d be amazed if people who are watching this video will think he’s underrated. Have a nice day. And remember, I’m not your enemy.
Dude, I got what you meant. And I agree, Josh Smith, Derek Trucks, and Eric Gales for my current trifecta...although Jared James Nichols makes it a Quadfecta. :-D. Speaking of underrepresented, how about Phillip Sayce...
@@progrock8907 you sir, have a phenomenal trifecta of guitar players!

So much great blues on RUclips, so little time !!!! I can spend my whole life watching this kind of music and great blues performers !! So happy to be alive.
This is not a "Duel" ... It just a good old fashioned Jam.
Agreed. Funny how the great guitar players themselves never seem to get in an argument over who the "best" is but rather compliment their peers over their talent and experience. I really like Joe because he respects the artform of the blues and those giants who paved the way for him and others. And even though he probably could be worth ten times what he is now if he had sold out to 'the system' and let the corporations mold him into a pop star, he has become a strong advocate for KTBA and works with some of the best musicians in the business. Now if someone would just convince him to contact another music 'rebel', Jennifer Warnes, and see what the two of them could come up with, I could die a happy man!
MacPro8CoreMan you’re dam right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
When the musicians walk on stage together they aren’t looking to be ‘the best individual’, they are making music TOGETHER. Without the band there’s nothing, without a collective desire to drive the song forward there’s nothing, without communication (either verbal or musically) there’s nothing. These musicians breath this stuff, they appreciate each other’s talents and bring out the best in the song or solo. Watch a great musician and you’ll see give and take, you’ll see a love for the moment and the emotion they create for their audience. This is a unique moment that can’t be repeated, enjoy it for what it is. It’s not a competition.
THANK YOU. BEAUTIFULLY SAID!

Yeah, good dude for cornering the USED Vintage market and bragging about it. Just because he pays a guy at GC to call JB whenever a used vintage axe gets in GC's inventory, thus making regular guys pay astro prices or get shut out completely from the vintage axe market.....nothin cool about that.

Me too! Had a huge grin on my face the whole time, as if I were at a party watching my friends dueling it out! Then the video ended and I was snapped back to reality.
I love all of these guys--incredible players. Tommy Emmanuel is the baddest guitarist I've ever heard. Just the tastiest and most interesting licks. He is a virtuoso in every sense of the word. Killer vid!!
Love Josh Smith's solo at the beginning. His tone is fantastic.

Solid it was. Wow. Love that.
These guys are so good that they change their style any time to fit in
No one got in the way of each other. One played a different position on the fretboard to highlight the other two. It's a meeting where every one gets to say their piece......a guitar conversation worthy of our attention.
Very well said.
The improv duel starting at about 5:30 is a class in "what you've got up your sleeve". These 3 guys could probably go on endlessly, all masters in their own right. What a treat to see!
I wonder what Tomoyasu Hotei could have done together with that bunch. That would have been if possible even more epic!

Regardless of any genre, Tommy never fails. He really 'talks' in his solo, and never forget to show some shredding for fans as well.

Man Joe Bonamassa hits ALL of the BUTTER NOTES.
It always amuses me in the comments on these videos... saying , this guy is better than that one. Most times by someone that has never picked up a guitar, and have no idea the degree of difficulty, or the literal years of endless practice that goes into being a top notch guitar player. Every player has their own style, and it’s always fun to see what the others come up with. I wish people would learn to enjoy the music, and stop with their uneducated opinions..
Indeed. After witnessing such a great performance and the sheer joy exhibited by each player...who in their right mind would entertain the notion of pitting one against another. The whole performance oozed cooperation and not competition.
I agree . . . but it is entertainment . . . you don't have to be a master chef to have an opinion on food taste . . . just saying. In my humble opinion, Tommy isn't afraid of the low strings, can make them sound just as a wicket.
Yes - it's a jam not a battle... A guitar battle is an excruciating contest to see who can play the most squealy notes and ridiculous dive bombs in one break. The playing of these guys complements the song and each other. Even Bonamassa seems to have restrained himself.
Gwag Very true. However.....From what I saw on stage, when he was playing with intent and serious, no one could play with Danny Gatton and not be taken back by his effortless shifting between rockabilly, jazz, blues, country at warp speed.
@@seanparker7415 Can't agree more! Did they say they were competing against each other? We are seeing creative talent in each individual style that comes together in musical explosion. Is the modern generation listening to the creation of music as is being shown here? Not many I would venture a guess.
Josh smith is the best 'new' blues guitarist around in my opinion. He has his own voice and it has it all... he's definitely a star on the ascent
We need as many as we can get to keep the blues alive! Joe is the most famous right now who is carrying this forward but we need more, young blues guitarists. If they're this good, there can never be enough. After Dwayne Allman died, there was a vacuum to fill.
I can see the guy is an excelent blues player... I can't see the 'own voice' part, nevertheless. Same for Bonamassa. You can be an excellent musician, a virtuoso and all that stuff, and be nothing innovative. Usually people doesn't like innovative people

Tommy always looks that bloke from down the road. He just chords along....then shit starts going kind of sideways, then it starts going kind of nuts. He and his brother came up the hard way, and he knows his showmanship without showboating. No showboating in the company he keeps these days. Just the best. Big smile from me. Oh.. and three people can't duel. Anything over two is a brawl, and ...ah...this ain't no brawl. This is magic.
Joe is a class act. He's not afraid to share the stage with ANYONE. The fact that he isn't intimidated says a lot about his ego. Sort of like Clapton singing Holy Mother with Pavarotti.
@Robert Patterson That sounds fabulous but getting Cream to stand on the same stage--with or without Pavarotti, could be a challenge. Clapton is the ULTIMATE class act. My all time favorite musician. I have other favorites but nobody like Clapton who has evolved so much over the years. Ge cab hang with BB or Pavarotti and fit in anywhere.
@Robert Patterson Thanks for responding, Robert. I knew that they were gone. I think my point was simply that they all had big egos, Clapton being an exception. I, too, was a major Cream fan in the late 60s. I remember the first time I heard Disraeli Gears. Blues Project Projections and Disraeli Gears made me a graduate of folk music and a rock fan. All I was saying is that when Clapton shared the stage with Buddy Guy at the 9/11 tribute in NYC, he stood behind Buddy Guy out of respect for the man who came before him. I hope that makes sense. You are more of a connasieur of Cream. I may have been younger and certainly not as experienced with rock, so I bow to you! :)
@Robert Patterson Too late for that, I know, but wouldn't it have been great? I'm not sure Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker would happily share the stage. Certainly not on this song written by Clapton. I can't wait for live concerts to come back (with people who are still living, LOL). Life without music is so hard.

Not talking bout the solos, but you just can't beat that sound that comes from that ES 335.
Shows how brilliant Tommy is. Chicago style blues is not his genre, nor is playing with a plectrum, yet when he decided to step it up, you'd think he spent his musical life in a blues band. Look how Joe is digging it.
his early music career was actually spent playing in rock bands with most notably his brother Phil emmanuel (RIP) where they really tore it up.. He always played with a pick even on acoustic until he realised Chet's 'fingerstyle' technique involved using a thumbpick which was the game changer for him.
@@QuynhNguyen-zw8uv Thanks for replying, Quynh. Most of us started with a plectrum. I remember seeing TE with the Bushwackers in the 70s, and later at the Real Ale Cafe in the mid 80s. I think it had a connection with The Basement. Not sure. Anyway, Tommy was playing finger style then. Those old Bushwackers LPs might be worth something today.
Their individual styles of phrasing is what really blows my mind. Endless bag of tricks from this jam.
My favourite part about all three of them is that they're playing with a lot of dynamics in their solos! So much feel!!!
@theh1n1shot Not at all, you can play fast and still be playing with dynamics and feel. Edited to elaborate... You could use speed as a forms of playing dynamically, but you can totally be playing fast for the duration of the solo and vary the technique, touch, timing, etc to add dynamics. The recently late EVH was great for that... he'd pick, legato, and tap all in the same solo! You could also be speed picking scales the whole time and feeling it, so it's all good!
Tommy rocked it! That, to me, would be hard to replicate... as were the others, but his in particular.
I love the obvious mutual appreciation, respect and love each of them has for one another.
That was Amazing, as a Guitarist watching these IncrediblyTalented guys I think I am going to start playing the Washboard.
I loved Josh Smith, Killer solo, As was Joe Bonamassa, Beautiful Tone as well, Tommy Emmanuel was my personal favourite, he just looked so happy just to be playing, I've seen what he can do on an Acoustic, he plays Rhythm and Lead at the Same Time!
Just a Brilliant Display of Musical Craftsman 👍👍👍.
That was awesome fun. Tommy simply radiates joy when he plays 💜
Hell of a show !! 3 of the best...LUCKY YOU MISSMOKE!!!!!!
This is my sixth time watching this performance. I’m awe struck at how these guys can play guitars like that.
I’ll probably be back six more time…… it’s just awesome!
Their good but not as good as me..
Three masters of their craft. I’m a bit partial to Tommy, but that collaboration was sweet!
I'm glad that Tommy went to the U.S for the fact that he could grow in that garden of musicians.
Yeah, the whole world is in awe that Tommy got a visa to the land of the free and the home of the brave!!! Halleluja!!!
This is not a duel! Just greats felling it together Love it
