Peter Green, Gary Moore, Mike Bloomfield , Alvin Lee, and of course Jimi
RORY GALLAGHER...
@@riccardovannucci6249 Absolutely…but he’s already included in this list.
These guitarists are truly legendary, and their contributions to blues are undeniable. With so much great talent, it's hard to include everyone in a list of just 30. Thanks for your comment!
ALVIN was a gift from god. Cheers.
And in modern times, John Mayer.
Duane Allman!!!
I adore him.
And Derrick Trucks.
Peter Green
Peter Green is amazing, no doubt! His influence on British blues is undeniable. Unfortunately, we only had space for 30 guitarists on the list. Thanks for the suggestion!
Yep, Peter Green, without a doubt.
Green was hugely influenced by BB King and often covered his songs. The feeling was mutual, with BB King famously commenting that Green was “the only living guitarist to make me sweat. He had the sweetest tone I've ever heard”
@@regoldor My favourite Green song was "A Fool No More". BB was right
Great compilation
Any list of greatest blues guitarists without Michael Bloomfield needs a do over.
Michael Bloomfield was undoubtedly a phenomenal and influential blues guitarist. This list aimed to highlight 30 great guitarists in blues history, so it's inevitable that some incredible ones end up being left out. Thanks for your comment and for mentioning this great talent!
any list without Gary Moore also
Yes
Michael was Beautiful!
Roy Buchanan.
Roy Buchanan was undoubtedly an incredible and innovative guitarist in the blues scene. This list focused on highlighting 30 great guitarists in blues history, but it's great to remember talents like him. Thank you for mentioning Roy Buchanan!
Danny Gatton was a blues master but he had to many strings to his bow to be put in any specific genre@@BackingTrackCenter
Siempre lo olvidan, jajaja
I don’t think that you are aware of the influence Roy Buchanan had on many of the great guitarists that emerged in the 60’s and 70’s. Coupled with his amazing skills and incomparable sound, he easily should be on this list.
Verdad. Saludos desde Brasil
@@gustavorodriguez6365
Happy to see Rory on the list.
Rory Gallagher was an incredible guitarist with unmatched energy and passion for the blues. Glad you appreciated his inclusion!
@@BackingTrackCenterhe (Rory) was a major part of my youth, and still is
I could not be complete without him.
Peter Green was born with the Blues in his soul. He really suffered for his talent and beliefs. He could say more in one note than thrash guitarists say in 20 notes.
Peter Green truly had a deep connection to the blues, and his ability to convey emotion through his playing was exceptional. His influence and unique style have left a lasting impact on blues and rock music. He was indeed a master of saying a lot with just a few notes. Thanks for commenting!
You are 100% right 👍
Peter Green could out play Clapton one handed.
The Blues were deep in Peter Green's soul, Clapton learned his licks from records.
Billy Gibbons
Peter Green, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Healey, Colin James, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Gary Clarke Jr, Michael Bloomfield, John Mayall
Michael Bloomfield was better than some of the ones that you named.
Michael Bloomfield was truly amazing! This list aimed to name 30 great guitarists in blues history, so it's inevitable that some great ones, like Bloomfield, were left out. Thanks for mentioning him!
Absolute travesty to leave Mike Bloomfield out
I understand your frustration. Mike Bloomfield is a giant in blues, and his exclusion certainly doesn't diminish his influence and talent. The list focused on 30 guitarists, but Bloomfield deserves all the recognition.
In your opinion
@@nathandodge665 Which he is entitled to …..
I'm happy to see that the list includes Albert Collins. He just plays the same riffs all the time, but his immediately identifiable TONE will kill you--it just shoots up your spine!
Albert Collins has such a unique and powerful tone, it really sets him apart. His riffs might be repetitive, but that sound is unforgettable!
Roy Buchanan
Jimi Hendrix, Mike Bloomfield, Peter Green, Memphis Minnie, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Etta Baker, Big Bill Broonzy, Arthur 'Big Boy' Crudup, Lowell Fulson and Chuck Berry should be on the list instead of Christone 'Kingfish' Ingram, Joe Bonamassa, Robben Ford etc. Their influence on the development of blues guitar cannot just be cast aside. After all, blues is about feel -- not fireworks like in metal.
You’re right, all these musicians had a huge impact on the development of blues, and each brought something unique to the genre. The list is not a definitive ranking but a celebration of various styles and eras of blues. Each guitarist mentioned, including Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Joe Bonamassa, and Robben Ford, brought something new and kept the blues flame alive in different ways.
Peter Green, Mike Bloomfield,Hound Dog Taylor, Duane Allman, Gary Clarke Jnr,Mick Taylor all worthy of mention
Without a doubt, all these guitarists have a notable impact on blues and deserve recognition. Peter Green and Mike Bloomfield are often acclaimed for their innovative contributions. Hound Dog Taylor brought a raw, authentic style. Duane Allman and Mick Taylor are legends of blues-rock, and Gary Clarke Jr. is a modern talent continuing to bring new elements to the genre. Thanks for commenting!
@@johnnyluddite One name doesn't seem to quite fit with the rest.
One vote for R.L.Burnside.
R.L. Burnside is a legend! His raw and striking style is unforgettable. Unfortunately, with only 30 places, some big names were left out. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@BackingTrackCenter Even If you try to name the best 100 you will miss some great names! But I can live with your selection.
Absolutely, you're right! There are so many amazing blues guitarists throughout history that even naming the top 100 wouldn't cover everyone. Adding more would make the video too long and boring.Glad you enjoyed the selection!
Some major omissions: Peter Green, Gary Moore, Snowy White, Alvin Lee, Michael Bloomfield and Ali Farke Toure
Great suggestions! All of those you mentioned are incredible guitarists. This list chose 30 guitarists, so some great names in blues had to be left out. Adding more would make the video too long and boring.
Lonnie Johnson.
This has been happening to Alvin all the time.
Rory....my favourite bluesman ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Me too
Peter Green has to be before Eric Clapton
Peter Green was an incredible guitarist, and his contributions to blues are undeniable. Lists will always spark debates about rankings, but we recognize the importance of both. Thanks for your comment!
Rory Gallagher my Hero
thanks for putting this out here for us... as long as Rory is on it I`m good with the rest
Great video ! Thank You ! I Will add: John Mayall, Bernard Allison, Melvin Taylor, John Hammond, Bob Brozman, Jeff Healey, Alvin Lee, Little Charlie Baty, Joe Louis Walker, Lucky Peterson, Buddy Whittington, Billy Gibbons, Roy Buchanan and...
Thank you for your feedback! Those are some excellent additions to the discussion of great blues guitarists. Each of them has left a remarkable mark on the genre with their unique styles and contributions. Blues history is rich with talent, and it's always great to celebrate these influential musicians. Long live the blues!
@@BackingTrackCenter. You forgetting the best British blues guitar in Peter Green.😊
Peter Green is indeed one of the greatest British blues guitarists! His contribution to blues, especially with Fleetwood Mac, is undeniable. Thanks for pointing that out!
Jesse Ed Davis🦅
Fantastic list. I would add Blind Lemon Jefferson, Jimmy Rogers, Robert Cray, UP Wilson, Justin Johnson
Great suggestions! Blind Lemon Jefferson and Jimmy Rogers are blues legends, and Robert Cray brought an incredible modern sound. UP Wilson and Justin Johnson are also fantastic guitarists who keep the blues alive. Thanks for the tips! 🎸🎶
The fantastic Robert Cray :)
The OK and perfectly acceptable but not earth shaking Robert Cray>
OK as background blues I guess.
Duane Allman, Mick Taylor, John Mayall, Mike Bloomfield
With a limit of 30 guitarists, the selection is tough and many exceptional talents might not be included. Duane Allman, Mick Taylor, John Mayall, and Mike Bloomfield are all influential and worth considering. They have a significant impact on blues and rock music.
Stevie Ray Vaughn, Roy Buchanan

Outstanding Video..👍💙
Peter Green, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Robin Trower, Gary Moore, Brian Jones and Jimmy Page.
They are all great guitarists! Unfortunately, with a list of only 30, some icons end up being left out. Thanks for the comment!
Big Mama Thornton
Jimmy Page hardly qualifies as a guitarist, let alone a blues guitarist. A triumph of style over substance, a posturing fop.
Kenny Wayne Shephard, Walter Trout, Cris Cain, Jonny Lang, Philip Sayce, Eric Gales
I would like to add John Mayall, Peter Green and Melvin Taylor.
Thanks for the suggestion! John Mayall, Peter Green, and Melvin Taylor are truly great additions and have a significant impact on blues.
John Mayall as a blues guitar player? Really?
Hmm, you need to read your album covers more carefully
Lonnie Johnson
Lonnie Johnson was a pioneer and influenced many musicians with his unique style. This list aimed to name 30 great guitarists in blues history, so it's inevitable that some great ones, like Lonnie Johnson, were left out. Thanks for mentioning him!
Clapton, Bonnamasa and Kingfish out Robert Cray, Lowell Fulsom, Ronnie Earl and many more in..
Choosing the guitarists is always subjective, and there are many other amazing ones who could be on the list. Robert Cray, Lowell Fulson, and Ronnie Earl certainly deserve recognition. Thanks for commenting!
Definitely
What about Chuck Berry. His phrasing with double stops had big influence on many blues guitar players.
You’re right, Chuck Berry had a huge influence on blues and rock with his characteristic use of double stops. He definitely deserves recognition, but it’s worth noting that his influence on rock was even more significant. Songs like "Johnny B. Goode" and "Roll Over Beethoven" shaped the sound of rock 'n' roll and inspired generations of rock guitarists. Thanks for commenting!
Nice list, bro. But there's people like Mike Bloomfield, Roy Buchanan, Gary Moore, Peter Green, Alvin Lee & Jimi Hendrix that are missing (and I'm pretty sure there's a lot more, just because there were so many really good guitar players into the blues scene/influence).
Thank you for this video, bro. It's amazing.
Thanks for the comment! Definitely, all these guitarists you mentioned are incredible and have a huge impact on the blues. It's a shame, but we had to keep the list limited to 30 names to avoid making the video boring, but your suggestions will be considered for future videos. Welcome to our channel. Cheers!
So glad to see Kingfish in your video! Very well made video 👍 I really enjoyed it. Thanks
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 😄 Kingfish is indeed an amazing addition. Thanks for the compliment and the support! 👍
Just GREAT - Super enjoyed !!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks a lot for watching! 😀🤗
Great video, many I knew just as many I didn't.
Greeting from The Netherlands.
Hooker 'n Heat is pretty awesome 😎
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! It's always cool to discover new favorites. Hooker 'n Heat definitely brings that classic blues vibe. 😎
All is good
Было приятно смотреть и узнавать всех их
Not including Mike Bloomfield, who had major influence of those that followed him and were mentioned, is a glaring omission.
Mike Bloomfield had a major influence on many guitarists who followed him, and his absence is indeed a glaring omission. I'll consider adding him in future lists. Thanks for your comment!
@@BackingTrackCenterMike was a major influence by playing with, and bringing Muddy Waters, and others to the West Coast music scene..
Merci beaucoup for mentioning Earl King from New Orleans as well as Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown along with the others. Seems Mike Bloomfield should have been on the list as well, but overall you hit up some very different cats! Good on ya!✌🏻❤️🎶⚜️🎉🥳🙂
Thanks for the comment! Indeed, Mike Bloomfield is a great name. I'm glad you appreciated the diversity of the guitarists mentioned!
I will also second a vote for Mike Bloomfield. While Joe Bonamassa is good, his mentor Danny Gatton was far better, and probably more influential. Hendrix wasn't known for his blues work, but he was phenominal.
Thanks for the suggestion! Mike Bloomfield definitely holds an important place in blues history. Danny Gatton also deserves recognition. As for Hendrix, even though he's not primarily known for blues, his influences on the genre are undeniable. Thanks for watching!
Lacks Lonnie Johnson. Probably most important (or one of most important) Blues and Jazz guitarist. One of very first musicians using guitar as a solo instrument.
You’re right, Lonnie Johnson was a pioneer in both blues and jazz and indeed one of the first musicians to use the guitar as a solo instrument. He definitely deserves recognition. Thanks for pointing that out!
Popa Chubby. Yeh!
They Forgot about Albert Collins
Albert Collins is on the list at 05:06! He is known as "The Iceman" and famous for his sharp style and picking technique.
Yes he was
no Blind Lemon Jefferson, Skip James, Blind Willie Johnson, Reverand Gary Davis, Mance :Lipscomb?? (Some might say Willie and Gary were religious singers, not a blues singers. But both are helluva guitarists!!)
These are incredible names that definitely deserve recognition! Blind Lemon Jefferson, Skip James, Blind Willie Johnson, Reverend Gary Davis, and Mance Lipscomb were phenomenal guitarists who influenced many musicians. Thanks for mentioning these great artists!
@@RawBluesTV Yup.
Blind Willie Mc tell
In addition to some of those mentioned by other commenters, I would include Rory Block, Joe Louis Walker, Robert Cray, and Kim Simmonds.
Great suggestions! It's really hard to pick just 30 when there are so many great blues guitarists out there. Maybe we can do a part 2 in the future to include these amazing names. Thank you for your comment and suggestions!
Mike Bloomfield, Peter Green. Tampa Red, Harvey Mandel, Bukka White just off the top of my head....
For sure, Mike Bloomfield, Peter Green, Tampa Red, Harvey Mandel, and Bukka White are incredible. It wasn't easy to pick just 30. Maybe in a follow-up video? Thanks for commenting!
Great video, but I would have definitely included Gary Moore!
What about Gary Moore?
Sorry, couldn't fit everyone in, but Gary Moore is definitely a legend worth mentioning in any blues guitar conversation. Thanks for commenting!
Gare Moore the best of all time. 👏👏👏
You certainly won’t please everyone with your blues genera influential’s but you have certainly covered the main ones. A couple of others are Duke Robillard, Little Charlie Baty, Jimmie Vaughan,…. but there are many unsung heroes of the blues. Great effort!
Thanks! It's true, it's hard to please everyone, but it's great to see so many amazing suggestions. There are definitely many unsung heroes of the blues out there. Appreciate the support!
Well I enjoyed this list, Jimi should have been in there, but delighted to see Rory made it, as he should have! Please do it again with the 50 best of all time! could I suggest 9 whom you might add in? Jimi of course, Howlin Wolf, Roy Bucannon, Peter Green, Gary Moore, Alvin Lee, Robert Cray, Robin Trower and Santana.
I'm glad you enjoyed the list! I agree that Jimi deserves to be on a best-of list, and including others like Peter Green, Gary Moore, and Roy Buchanan in a list of the top 50 would be great. Thanks for the suggestions; they're names that truly made a mark on music history!
Mike Bloomfield. He above all others
Bloomfield is amazing, but the list only had space for 30 guitarists. He is certainly one of the greats!
I'll take none other than the master himself mr jimmy page since I been loving you
👍🏼🎸🤘🏼
You iced that.
👍🏼
Taj Mahal and Peter Green.
Taj Mahal and Peter Green are excellent suggestions! Both have made significant contributions to blues with unique and influential styles. Thanks for commenting!
Yes i unterstand i like the style of howling Wolf because i would like to sing and play harmonica with his blues songs with ours band and for example with the wolf's Song Evil ( i mixed Also the version of bonamassa Blues band but with the voice of Wolf😊
Everyone Has An Opinion ! This Is A Great Documentary On The Blues ! ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed the documentary! Blues is such a rich genre that there will always be room for different opinions. Thanks for the feedback!
I am missing Peter Green and especially Gary Moore on this list. Again totally underrated. Never heard a more emotional Style of playing than his. RIP
I agree! Peter Green and Gary Moore are true blues icons with a uniquely emotional style. Both have left a deep mark on the genre. Thanks for commenting!
Roy Buchanan
Roy Buchanan is undoubtedly one of the great blues and rock guitarists, known for his exceptional technique and innovative style. The list has space limitations and it is difficult to include all the big names, but he certainly deserves recognition for his impact on music. Thanks for his comment!
HEY JOE Austin city limits. Maybe GOAT
Hi,
first of all I want to say that I really enjoyed of this video, any die-hard blues fan knows that it is very difficult to narrow down great artists like them to 30 places.
That being said, i will mention very influential artists like Charley patton, big joe Williams, Robert Nighthawk, Lightnin' Slim, hop wilson, Steve Cropper And of course many others have already mentioned before me here in the comments.
Thank you so much for the comment and support! I completely agree, it's very difficult to narrow down so many incredible artists to just 30. Charley Patton, Big Joe Williams, Robert Nighthawk, and the others you mentioned are all legends that deserve recognition. I'll consider these suggestions for future lists.
Gary moore, Billy gibbons, Duane allman, Warren Haynes
hanks for the comment! These guitarists are amazing and definitely deserve recognition. The list is limited to 30 guitarists, so some tough choices had to be made. Maybe in a part 2, we can include more talents like these!
Someone that is always left off these lists is Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna/Jefferson Airplane fame. He is a great bluesman, he covers Rev. Gary Davis, Blind Arthur Blake, Robert Johnson. He does the blues right, check out Hot Tuna's first acoustic album... It's worth a listen
Jorma Kaukonen is amazing and definitely underrated. The list can only include 30, but his work is worth checking out, especially with Hot Tuna. Thanks for mentioning him!
@@BackingTrackCenter So 31 ain't so bad
No, our intention was to add 30 blues giants to the list, but that doesn't mean that someone who didn't appear on the list couldn't be on it. Without classification, everyone here is giant and plays important roles in the blues, Jorma Kaukonen could easily be on this list! Thanks again for his enriching comment!
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day also happy independence day to the United states also last night was Canada day where I live in ❤😊
Thanks for your comment. Cheers!

Having seen many of the great blues guitar players in concert there is no doubt that Rev Gary Davis was the best . Must admit however that on record Lonnie Johnson and Blind Blake sounded amazing
Got to agree with you my friend
Gary Moore outplays them all when cuts the blues!
Gary Moore had incredible skill and a passion that really stood out in the blues. His technique and intensity often surpassed many other musicians in the genre. He truly brought something special to the table when it came to blues. Thanks for commenting!
@@andrewwhyte9944 Gary Moore ? Who is Gary Moore ! ?
Gary Moore ?
Blind Lemmon Jefferson should have been first and no Mike Bloomfeld? C'mon man.
This list aimed to highlight 30 great guitarists in blues history, so it's inevitable that some great ones end up being left out. Thanks for your comment!
A great selection. I would have liked to include Leadbelly, but you included a lot of greats.
Leadbelly is truly a legend! I agree that he deserves to be mentioned among the greats of blues. Thanks for the comment and for appreciating the selection!
There's No One Greatest. People should just say the Top 10 Most Influential Blues Players, because Everyone of them brings something different to the Table. They Are and Were Great.
I totally agree! Each guitarist brings something unique to the blues. The most important thing is to acknowledge the influence and contribution of each one.
Jackie Venson 🤩👍
👍🏼👍🏼
I don't like "greatest" lists. Everyone mentioned here is great in their own way, and you definitely left off some that I would have included. Having said that, when I heard "Roaree's'" name, I knew that whoever compiled this list was a serious aficionado of blues guitarists. That means it was extremely difficult to cut the list down from, say 100, to just thirty. You did a commendable job. Thanks for this video.
I understand, "greatest" lists always spark debates! Everyone has their favorites and leaving out some great names is inevitable. It was really tough to narrow it down to just 30, but I'm glad you recognize the seriousness in the selection of guitarists. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video!
robert johnson obviously
Where hes Howling Wolf😊
Congratulations! This absence is well noted, Howlin' Wolf is one of the great masters of the blues. But when composing this list we had to make some choices, in this part 2 of the video where we talk about Chicago Blues, we think it is more relevant for the universe of blues guitar to mention Hubert Sumlin, including one of the scenes in which he appears (at 05:40) is playing with Wolf. Thanks for his comment.
Jimi Hendrix
Duane Allman
Eric Gales
They should be in this list
And a lot of more...
Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, and Eric Gales are all incredible guitarists with significant contributions to blues and rock. With only 30 slots, many great names are left out, but their influences are undeniable. Thanks for commenting!
Could easily add Bloomfield, Ronnie Earl, Peter Green and Gary Moore to name a few.
Which 4 guitarists would you remove from the list to make room for the 4 you mentioned?
Alvin Youngblood Hart. As Taj Mahal said, " Boy's got thunder in his hands".
Kind of sad not to see Robert Cray here
Indeed, Robert Cray is a great blues guitarist and has a significant impact on the genre. Unfortunately, with only 30 spots on the list, some important names end up being left out. Cray's contribution to blues is undeniable and deserves recognition.
Reverend Gary Davis
Gary Moore
One glaring omission. Not only one of the greatest guitarists. But just as importantly the coolest mutha to walk this earth. Ole. Lightnin. Hopkins
Lightnin' Hopkin is on the list. You will be able to find it at 2:00. Thanks for commenting!
He was included in the list😊
Jeff Healey
Duane Allman was a major influence on modern electric slide guitar, which was a major oversight.
Duane Allman is truly a slide guitar legend and his influence is immense. Thanks for the observation and we will consider this in future lists!
Alan Haynes outta Tex, incredible SRV’ish raw traditional blues player!
Very best songs of 1070
👍🏼
Johnny Winter better in the top ten...
The list is great. In my opinion the GOAT is SRV.
Keb Mo deserves a shout out too.
Absolutely, Keb' Mo' is definitely deserving of recognition! His blend of traditional blues with contemporary elements has made a significant impact in the blues world. Great addition to the conversation!
Met Keb Mo in Memphis
gary moore, mike bloomfield,3 kings, robert cray and legendary old school players like robert johnson
That list is not complete, whiteout Michael Bloomfield and Duane Allman.
You're right, Michael Bloomfield and Duane Allman are two great names in blues that really could have been on the list. The idea was to focus on a limited selection of 30 guitarists, so inevitably, some were left out. Thanks for your comment!
RL Burnside
Hendrix Peter Green and others !!!
Buddy Guy and Phil Guy where two Guitarist from Louisiana and Chicago Illinois
They are two giants!
Robert cray is missing!!!
Robert Cray is an incredible guitarist and definitely deserves a mention. Unfortunately, with only 30 spots, some great names end up being left out. I'll consider your suggestion for future lists!
😊❤
Excelente video, pero faltan Jimie Hendrix y Jeff Beck
Where is Peter Green.
Peter Green is a huge name in blues and a massive influence! Unfortunately, we could only choose 30 guitarists, so some icons were left out. Thanks for the comment!
Jimmy Hendrix tocando red house deberían escucharlo.
Johnny Winter
