    i never looked at my axle wrap ive been wanting to do a traction bar for driveshaft protection, now im 100% gonna figure a way to make that happen, had no idea its that bad and im on the 63" leaves so id imagine worse being so long. thank you great vid.

    I did not have a clue about axle wrap. Your video was a very good introduction, thanks.

    Thats is an excellent video! Just what I was looking to see from a stock/unlifted Tacoma. After watching, I don't see a heck of a lot of difference between yours and mine. I am still going to add the drop kit to level out the assembly a bit, but I'm not sure it's really necessary. Thanks for posting the vid..awesome job!

      Thanks Rob, it was fun. Glad I was able to help!
      It might be interesting to do an entire story telling series like these.

    When I originally SAS'd I used 4" lift blocks with my worn out stock rear leafs. The axle wrap was sooooo bad, and with the supercharger I could feel it BAD. And people kept saying my truck looked like I broke it every time I took off with power because the axle was pushed so far. Eventually switched to OME springs and a 2" block, and could not notice any axle wrap at all. Now I've changed it up some more, lowered my SAS by moving the hanger into the frame, and got low enough to eliminate the rear block entirely!

      Dam, 4" blocks are huge. Yeah I'm going 63" springs on bobcat and that's eliminates my blocks

    This is why I personally prefer coil spring and control arm instead of leaf springs. The axle is more firmly attached to the frame still have some articulation

    What if i put longer shackles will that help or make it worse?

  • @NKaumans

    Yeah this is why many makes go with axle under vs axle over

    • @SnailTrail4x4
      @SnailTrail4x4  3 года назад

      Under axle gets so much more axle wrap

    • @NKaumans
      @NKaumans 3 года назад

      @@SnailTrail4x4 No it certainly does not. Leaf under adds significantly more strength to the rigidness vs over axle. Google axle wrap leaf over, then google axle wrap leaf under and see what you get.

      "Without a doubt the strongest argument for keeping the springs under the axle is the limited axlewrap that's received compared to a spring-over. It's all about torque forces. While you may not have the ground clearance that a spring-over has, your axle will be held more firmly in place and able to deal with the loading forces more easily."

    My 3rd gen has the shakes bad at a stop with the brakes on. I think it’s the driveline

      My guess is that your brake rotors are warped

    do stock trucks get wrap? yes. do blocks make it worse? yes. do traction bars help? if done correctly... yes. should you use blocks for lift? only if it is a show truck. they are a retched throwback to the early 80s (if not earlier)

    axle wrap caused leaf springs not work properly.... sometimes softer ... sometimes harder...

    So is a 1.5 aal better than a 1.5 spacer . And will the aal help stiffen up the springs and calm some of the wrap

      Check your slip joint on the rear portion of your drive shaft. The factory lube/lack thereof can gunk up and get sticky and cause a "thunk" when starting and stopping.

      The ones I see cause only more problems. Bud built can rip the metal of the rear housing. The other one can only take a lift up to 2in. Unless you have an alternative I haven't seen.

    Aal = Add A Leaf

    • @SnailTrail4x4
      @SnailTrail4x4  5 лет назад +1

      Hahaha, thanks, the aal would help with axle wrap but make the ride a little more stiff. The 1.5 spacer would make the wrap worse

    • @SnailTrail4x4
      @SnailTrail4x4  2 года назад

      @obart613 -- I would think it would lessen it because you are adding more material to resist movement and stiffen up the leaf pack. As long as you're not adding a spacer I don't see why it would add axle wrap. If you remove leaves from the pack then you're going to make a softer setup and you would have more axle wrap
