I need help, You skipped a step. I downloaded the dmg, how did you get the image file
just run the dmg file and it will install to the apps folder!
@@3rdworldoutdooradventures697 This doesn't work unless you run from the laptop you want to install it on because running the dmg opens up a pkg file which tries to actually install the OS on the laptop. In order for this to work you need to do this on the older laptop. On a newer laptop with a more recent OS, it will fail.

I accidentally wiped out my old iMac 2015, I downloaded the El Capitan OS, but this machine is running Sonoma and will not allow me to extract the OS software to create a bootable disk. Would you happen to have any other suggestions on getting my hands on El capitan OS past the .dmg file, Is something already extracted?
What's happening when you try the extraction
@@hanomedia I was able to find it in the App store, but now my problem is not be able to execute the sudo command. I need to really pay attention to make sure the script is done right.
Sudo means you need to gain root acess as you will also need to provide the password

The link he shows is to a .dmg file. You run this file on the old laptop you plan to install it on when its booted up in the OS and it will install the installer to the Applications folder.

When i try to enter the last command : "Failed to start eraqe of disc due to error (-9999,0) a error occured erasing the disk"

Did you try another flash drive and see??
@hanomedia I triez another method (with disk utility, where you restore the dmg file into the formated USB stick) by holding options when starting up. I then chose the USB stick to launch El Capitan, I select it but all it does is launching normally Snow Leopard
