    Legit!! Thank you so much. After 5ish hours I have prevailed. I got a formatted iMac from the thrift store with El Captain on it and I couldn't log in because I needed to log into the App Store (per Apple) I didn't have an El Captain purchase so I was locked out. I followed the directions and used Disk Creator to save my installation. I did run into some problems because I was using a very generic thumb drive, I switched thumb drives and made sure that the Partition tab in Disk Utility was highlighted, I changed my format to (exFAT?) and then it worked! At start up I just held my ALT key and selected my thumb drive to boot up! Thanks again for the help

    Was wiping my 2007 iMac with 4GB RAM and a 500 GB SSD (yes, back in the days, they made their stuff upgradeable - and the 17 year old machine still runs just fine and fast) clean as suggested by Apple, erased and re-formatted the disk, and then ran into the common issue of being unable to install it via Internet connection from Apple. 403, access denied. Shock. I now have an M1 Mac mini with Sonoma 14.4.1, and that does not allow to run the Installer as suggested. Had to fall back to my 2014 MacBook Pro on Big Sur 11.7.10 (I know, I have too much Apple gear..), and that finally allowed me to create the bootable USB stick. You would expect Apple to be premium in their services too, given the cost of their hardware, but they are letting their customers down. Not so you, it worked so thanks for the hint! Note that the tool erases the USB stick in the process of creating the bootable stick. Any idea of how to do it on an M1 / Apple silicon Mac?

      I remember when they used to be that upgradable, I remember replacing the old spinning drive with an SSD in my 2009 MacBook Pro. Ha ha.
      Getting something like that on modern Mac at least with El Capitan you just need to make sure that you have the full installer app or the installESD.DMG. At this point you have to get it from the Internet Archive like I mentioned, but as long as you have that you should be able to create the boot USB from any Mac, Intel or AS.

      @@EasyOSXsubbed. This was exceedingly helpful. I stupidly forgot that Apple’s old standalone dmg OS files generate those “install ___” dummy files in the applications folder. I thought something was wrong with my old Mac minis or the internet archive dmg’s. Was that common knowledge? Does it still do that with newer rips of Ventura and Sonoma?

    • @EasyOSX

    great video! although i am not sure if this will help my situation. I am helping my friend reformat his imac and his version was the el capitan 10.11. I went to disk utility, erased the macintosh hd and proceeded to Reinstall. It then asked for an internet connection so i connected via ethernet cable. It search for a few seconds then came back with an error message. The odd thing is when I go to Reinstall OS X there are no options to select a hard drive. There is just a button to continue then asks to download and install el capitan then an error message saying it cannot continue.
    Kind of stuck here and I tried changing the date to the year 2015 and still no luck. I do not have another mac nor can I get back into the OS since I erased the hard drive. There should have been a partition of the el capitan to reinstall. Is there a way to fix this using a windows pc to make a bootable usb drive with el capitan? Or is there an easier way?
    Thank you.

    • @EasyOSX
      @EasyOSX  Год назад

      If you're able to access the recovery mode still then it means that partition is still there in some sense. Changing the date would also mess it up since (from the server hosting Mac OS), your machine is claiming to be coming to it from 8 years in the past. What format is the hard drive in (APFS, HFS+, etc.)?

    • @carlos_marcello
      @carlos_marcello Год назад

      @@EasyOSX Thank you for responding. I had to change the date cause it was mentioned that the certificates expired and wouldnt work if it were in 2023(I also tried it before changing the date and it didnt work). The format when I erased the macintosh HD was in OS X Extended (Journaled). In the Disk Utility I have Hitachi and Macintosh HD(all available).
      Then under that I have Disk Images Apple Disk Image(takes up 2.01GB) and OS X Base System(takes up 1.3GB).
      I just dont understand why I cant just reinstall the OS. I am not use to Macs and this stuff is frustrating.

    • @EasyOSX
      @EasyOSX  Год назад

      That's certainly unusual. I didn't have to change the date on my stuff to get it to install. You can make a Mac flash drive from Windows, though you might need to install some trail software to do so. I'm going to direct you to Kevin Muldoon's video. It's a little old, but the steps should still be the same. He also has a link to his website where you can read the steps if you'd rather not do the video.

      @@EasyOSX Sorry. I solved that problem. I didn't wait for full extraction. I had to use Terminal to make it go. Now it says the "Application is too old to be opened on this version of OSX." I'm running it on a 2015 MacBook Pro with system 10.13.6. I've never had these problems before. Such a headache.

      Sounds like it’s having trouble connecting to the network and trying to network boot. Double check your date and time are correct and run the upgrader or try the bootable flash drive method

    Ok
    Im trying to Reinstall El Capitan on an imac 7.1
    Because the Admin Password was lost i couldnt even Install El Capitan and create a boot USB
    So i boot Into Recovery
    Erased the HDD with all the User Accounts
    Then i tried to Reinstall Mac OS El Capitan
    But since a few years This IS Not possible because the Recovery will Download from the app Store
    And AS shown in This Video IT IS taken Out of the App Store
    Thats realy one of the wirst Things Apple IS doing to customers
    AS shown you cant Download a boot Version on Mac M1 or Mac m2
    So you need to find Someone with an old Mac , or you Install Not from Apple Website
    Thats crazy , because Apple IS making euch a big Thing to protect customers and their systems
    In This Case ITS a lie
    So the only Chance to Reinstall IS from a boit Stick
    And This boot Stick i have to create in a Friends Macintosh running El Capitan
    Absolutely crazy
    In my Case the only apologize for Apple IS the fact that i dont have the admin PW
    But that i cant Download and Set Up a El Capitan boot Installer on a new Macintosh m2 is absolutely crazy
    You can save everything in Clouds and Recovery IT but you cant Just get a iOS Version
    Only With the boot Stick i will BE able to solve the Problem
    Im Happy my friend has got the Mac running El Capitan
    So then i can easily create the boot device
