      Its way simpler and more reliable, It also prevents apps from planting their files deep into your system and instead keeping them compact just inside the app itself. So when you want to delete something you dont have to install a third party uninstaller to make sure every single file is removed from your system

    • @xtan-io
      @xtan-io 9 месяцев назад +43

      @@mertilizm can't agree with the last statement, the 'data' of the application will be still present on "./local/share/applicationname". You will have to manually remove it.

    • @ZaneAlgogh
      @ZaneAlgogh 9 месяцев назад +17

      @mertilizm it does not work this way for Adobe apps. All of the cache isn't consolidated inside the .app, it's in some bullshit directory somewhere. So I may move the Adobe After Effects.app to the trash can to get rid of the 5gb install but it won't get rid of the 15gb worth of random playback cache that it generated

    • @ZaneAlgogh
      @ZaneAlgogh 9 месяцев назад

      @@mertilizmeven then, when you go to the launchpad and long-press an icon so that the apps start wiggling, you only get the option to uninstall apps by pressing the "x" icon IF they were installed from the Mac app store, since that guarantees that every single piece of cache it generates is consolidated inside the app manifest . If it was downloaded from the internet it won't give you that option since macos can't guarantee it won't leave junk somewhere else on the system. I think this architecture would be super solid if there was a better way to link the app and its cache together

    Very nice tutorial. I learned a few new things that I'll have to try. Instead of cmd + m to minimize, you can use cmd + h to hide an application. Then when you cmd + tab to the app, all your windows of that application show up. If you hold the option key when you hover over the red/yellow/green buttons, you get alternate display options. You can make your app window fill the screen without it creating a whole separate desktop. I always put my Applications, Documents, and Downloads folders on the dock. I find them useful there. In the dock you can right-click on them to choose how you want them to display (I choose display as folder), and you can choose how you want to view their contents (I find "grid" and "list" more useful than "fan").

You don't use an iPhone like an android now do you? Why do you think computers are any different. You can give mac to person that's never touched a pc and they'll use it but you can't do the same with windows which needs someone to guide and explain tf is going on

    I was a lifelong Windows user since 95, but I hated when they brought in Window snapping. Whenever I was trying to just move and position a window to a custom size that I needed, instead Windows would grab the Window and suck it up on the side. It was so frustrating. Was relieved when I moved to MacOS in 2020. But I did setup keyboard shortcuts (a built in feature on Mac) to snap Windows for the rare times I actually need that.

That’s not for me. The section on installing apps and Rectangle is too weird for words. Rectangle 🤣. That was enough. Can't you already do so with 3 fingers up? And switch virtual desktops with 4 fingers left-right (3 finger will Alt-Tab between apps, which I think makes more sense)

    I think this is just touching on computing basics. Same for Linux can be demonstrated too. I would like to see a guide showing how to run and use applications available in Windows on Mac OS. Specifically would be like modern gaming titles. It would make for a better reason to crossover for me.

    There are literally ZERO built-in MacOS window management features that will give you the speed and productivity of Microsoft's windows management. This is something that is absolutely destroying me. Especially as someone who works a job using a Mac 8 hours a day, who then switches between a Mac Mini M1, Mac Book Air M2 and a Windows Gaming PC. Mac simply does everything worse when it comes to productivity/windows management. You have to look into third party apps to make up for it, most of the good ones aren't even found in the Mac's App Store.

    after switching to Mac OS, do you have any regrets, miss some windows features and wish that Mac adds them?

    • @bogxd
      @bogxd  9 месяцев назад +7

      Regrets, no, I like it, I like having the option to use both OS's. The things I miss from windows are: 1. obviously gaming, 2. the ability to turn off certain animations (like switching virtual desktops that take twice as long with ProMotion for no reason), 3. a "snappier" way to snap windows, 4. some features from the taskbar, like app previews once you hover over them.

      The software either has an uninstaller, or you can use the ‘reduce clutter’ feature.
      It’s much better than Windows imo. If you don’t have an uninstaller in windows it’s a mess, you have to use Revo Uninstaller and that often doesn’t work

      I don't find it easy, you need to grab a tiny icon and move the mouse all the way down to land one icon on another icon (drag & drop), what if I have Parkinsons or smth, it's needlessly complex. Just let me click "uninstall" without having to play a fking minigame.
