Thank you for this basics tutorial. I've been on Windows ever since Windows 95 and my first 386, but my new job is on Mac, so now I gotta start all over again at the age of 68. Your tutorial has helped a lot.
So Good!!! I appreciate that you don't talk so darned fast as the other tutorials I have tried to watch; it takes a minute to absorb the information! You do a great job of being clear and quite thorough in presenting the material in a easy to understand way . This video is a lifesaver for me!
Thank you for the best beginner tutorial on RUclips. I had my first PC back in 1985 when Windows began! Now, at 75, I have switched to an Apple Mac as I can no longer bear Windows! I purchased a MacBook Air M3 only three days ago; you may well have saved my sanity! Thanks again for such a detailed tutorial.

So I have used windows before windows with windows and there was IBM & internet dialup I’m now 45. I think I’m bout to buy my first MacBook Pro for music production and DJ. I’m so tired of the compatibility issues with drivers updates and all kind of stuff that sends PCs into a frenzy
I used Mac’s back in the 90s. This is utterly ridiculous. They have intentionally made this OS into a big steaming pile. I did not realize I would have to spend weeks learning basics in order to get a laptop. I am furious & there’s no videos in between “you’re using your first computer” & “super specific hi tech tasks.”
@@kevinturpin7937 funny of you mentioning compatibility and drivers. I have M4pro (my first macbook) and wanted to plug in a dac to see if it outputs full 192/24 out of apple music. That dac works via usb on windows, linux, android, ipadOS... NOT on macOS. So not only USB is not fulluly implemented in 2025, but also to fully use the 192/24 audio quality of their streaming service you can't use apple devices. iPad outputs only 44/16 out of usb and macbook with M4 pro chip doesn't even work. Android or linux works just fine and while windows works, is not a good platform for music streamer.

I’m sure I’ll be watching this video a few times if I purchase the Mac Air 2m. 15”. 16 ram and 1tb storage seems to be the best value.
Hey, good luck with the decision. Buying a new computer is always a big one. They're expensive but they are seriously nice computers, if you're the type that takes care of things, that MacBook Air should take you well into the future. One thing to keep in mind though, if you like Windows, is that Macs with Silicon chips can't run Windows natively (have to use Parallels). There isn't much to do unless you find a good deal on a refurbished Intel Mac but will play into my next computer purchase decision. More info here: ruclips.net/video/yP3DUAzEM9c/видео.html
This is an awesome tutorial of the basics. Last time I used a Mac was during my Postgraduate studies in 1987 and wanted to get back on the wagon of trying it out on a VM. Your clip is a great assistance tool on this journey. Thank you!
Love the vid! being a newbie to the apple eco-system making the transition from windows to Mac, this vid was very informative and helpful. Can't wait to see your other tutorial videos to watch and learn. Thanks for sharing!
Just switched to all Apple products after decades of Windows. Whoa like learning a new language. This was very helpful especially the Finder section and some of the settings. I did like Windows file system and now can customize Mac to operate similarly. Also a few of the settings I couldn't find like the mouse wheel (UGH!) that was annoying. Great job on the video.
Thank you so much. Very high quality: concise, clear, demonstrative, passionate. NOTE: I am new to Mac and the laptop I bought is running Big Sur, but I fount your tutorial incredibly helpful all the same.
Thank you so much for this! I just got my new Macbook Air today and, after watching your video, am ready to get started. I know after 28 years as an exclusive Windows user there will be a learning curve but I much less apprehensive about it.
Hi, I just watched this and 2019 version, they are both very helpful because I just started using MacBook and have been using Windows since like a billion years ago. Thanks for the right-to-the-point tutorials👍 36:36 lmao that's me
I’m 61 and just learning and this is the best and easy way to learn about a Mac computer, thank you so much . I’ve always used windows and just don’t like it 😂 my new Mac 14 inch M1 full load laptop is great !
Just bought a macbook pro, waiting for it to arrive. Thanks for this great overview. I like that you compared with windows as that's where I'm used to working. Greetings from North Wales UK.
That's great to hear, there is a lot to learn but once you get to a certain point you can do a lot of self learning by checking out all of the different options, settings and apps available.
Thanks a lot for making this video. You have explain everything to start with MacOs in crisp. Your efforts are very much appreciated. I am benefiting a lot after going through your video.
I am planning on switching from Microsoft to Apple. You are exceptional in your presentation as I am a pro at windows. Have not used an apple since the apple II Plus. Giving my age away a little. It took away any fears I had at moving to apple and I kind of like it.
I am thinking of purchasing a MacBook and I am scouring RUclips for tips and tricks on using one for the first time. I have to say that I am very impressed with ur tutorial. One thing I have found and I find it a bit confusing is that another video tutorial states to keep away from Google Chrome as they collect information on ur browsing and information but you yourself use it. What is ur pro’s and con’s on Chrome? I find that using Safari on my iPhone 15 pro max that it can jump out of my log in details and I have to re-log in whereas In Chrome it’s more stable. What would you urself recommend on the matter? Tyvm 👍😀
Great work. I love how you explain things. This has been very helpful. I’m now more confident with the shift from windows to Mac. Continue with the Good work. 👊🏽
This was so helpful! More helpful than calling AppleCare. This tutorial encouraged me to keep trying to use my new Macbook Pro rather than switching back to a PC. We'll see!
I’ve had a Mac mini for a year but I’m still not as comfortable with MacOS as with Windows, so I found a few useful tips here in your video! Thank you! It’s hard to transition in some ways - I’ve been using PCs since the days of MSDOS lol. It would I help if I used my Mac more but I often don’t feel like hanging in my office where it’s located, and I also have a PC gaming setup so I tend to not be on my Mac much at all - but I’m getting a MacBook in a few days so I can use it anywhere in the house and not feel confined to my office all the time!
Hi Anson , just came across your video whilst considering a change from Windows to Mac , essetially for video editing of my drone and action camera footage from my motorcycle tours. The fear of change has gone immediately ! Thanks so much for this clear and comprehensive summary of Macs . One question , I see that you can add Microsoft Office 365 to the Mac , briefly , why would you want to do this ? Regards from Southampton , England.
This video was a GREAT INTRO to using a Mac OS from a Windows OS vantage point. It helps contemplating the conversion to Mac OS as maybe not such scary thought. I've been using Windows since Windows was literally first invented. I've also done programming in Windows and in DOS - when I was much younger. However, I'm thinking about changing to Mac OS since I need to get a new computer system & printers for my business. Although Windows has some things that really suck, so does Mac. And I'm really good with a Windows OS and doing things many different ways. As a life-long Windows & Android user, this is like visiting a foreign country & trying to speak a very different language and drive on "the wrong side of the road"! But hey, people can change! And people can learn a different culture & a different language - so maybe this crusty old man can too. Only time will tell what I decide to do but this video was a GREAT INTRO to using a Mac OS. Thank you for a great video intro! Keep doing great videos to help us poor, confused Windows OS users who might just convert to the Dark Side.
Excellent Anson, just what I've been looking for. I'm a long time (many years) Windows person wanting to switch to Mac and your video gives me the confidence to jump. Now I need to figure how to convert my chrome bookmarks that I keep on my Windows desktop to be stored and used from a folder(s) in the Mac's Desktop folder. Any ideas? Is there a translator utility to do the job?
Great presentation, especially the Finder explanation. The natural scrolling tip really helped, as I thought my Windows mouse wouldn't work on my new MacBook.
Haha well sorry Garry, it does take me some time to get to all of my comments but, to answer your question, it is part of my recording software, ScreenFlow. I don't actually see it on my screen when recording, I add it in post-production (editing).
Thanks for the "refresher". I've not used Apple much since the IIc and I think IIgs. I do have an iBook G4 (PowerPC) that was given to be compile plugins in xCode for some Mac using friends so they could use some plugins I wrote for Linux and Windows versions of TeamSpeak. So, I used PuTTY and FileZilla when using that system way more than the UI. But I've ordered the new MBA 15". Around the 36-minute mark you discussed maximizing windows. The double-click in the title bar you mentioned for Mac has worked in Windows as well for decades. The drag to top feature you mentioned for Windows is a newer feature than the older double click method.
You're welcome! I think I already have some videos out that may be what you're looking for: ruclips.net/video/7g-XA4sPxLY/видео.html ruclips.net/video/2auKRCaHAAg/видео.html ruclips.net/video/mNd-GwocG9g/видео.html

Really great presentation, thank you! I am a long time windows user and I've also used Linux for over 10 years. I don't think we need to say one is better, it's fun using all three
Thank you great tutorial. I have been a chromebook all google user. Had to switch to a MacBook pro when I changed companies and there was a learning curve for sure. I was not sold on Apple. However l needed a new personal computer and something that could keep up with my business so I decided to get a MacBook pro for myself ... something I swore I would never do. But it is a much better laptop I just loaded the chrome browser and use sheet docs etc. So best if both world. Most helpful was hearing about the apple apps you use and how you use them. Thanks for an honest tutorial!
@@EsandiKawya I've been programming on my old laptop that costs 300 dollars and that was enough for most of the time. So yeah, M1 is good enough when you're a student. Then, when you'll get a job, you may think about better options but now it's completely okay.
Around min. 27, it would be nice to get info about, external windows key board and what to do if you are using windows keyboard which does not have “command” key etc..
I like your tutorial is so easy understand I’m Spanish speaking for my ears is so clear I watched this video as a class I’m keeping washing to learn from you how to speak clear like you Sound crazy but is the truth Thanks you so much.
Thank you again for so much information lol I wanted to take off Google Mail from mac I had to do a search to find out if I deleted if I would lose all my information from the main server from Google I learned so much you are the go-to man on the mac thanks, Anson!!! Easy pleasing
Lots of really useful tips here. Thanks ! Really well put together as well. One thing Im not quite clear on but why would you want to install Google Chrome ? I’m no expert but Safari seems to work well enough for me, so what benefits would there be in me installing Chrome ? Apart from that everything was really clear and already Im feeling a lot more confident with my Mac than I ever have done 👍🏻

Thanks! I bought a used Macbook just so I can learn macOS. Prior to this the last time I used Mac was on those old plastic colored Macintosh PCs in college.
Very helpful video actuall i shifted from window to apple ios . Now i opened the camera and unable to close the camera struggling for 30mins and here am searching for help in youtube and came across this video
Thanks! This was a great starter. I wonder what the difference is between the red and yellow button on the top left, if they both minimize/close the window but don't close the app. I'm curious what any difference would be between using one or the other.
I just bought a Mac yesterday. It’s so hard coming from windows!! Great video. Helped alot. I am curious though… was told I needed to get M2 chip so I could run mac like windows. What does that mean???
I honestly have no idea. If you've seen my video on why I like Intel chips better (ruclips.net/video/yP3DUAzEM9c/видео.html), you'll see that my entire reason is that Windows runs waayyy better on Intel chips...
Really awesome tutorial video buddy! Though I was wondering how can I get that cursor highlight and effect that you use on the video? Is there an app on the App Store or on the web? Thanks and great video bro!
Hi - This was so helpful. Recently went from a Dell to a Mac, and this tutorial was just what I needed. Quick question, I'm a cartoonist who used Paint to color my cartoons online after I scanned the drawing. If you have a recommendation for something similar I can use on the Mac to colorize and post my cartoons to my website, that would be very helpful. Thank you.

Thank you!
I'm glad to hear it was helpful, thanks for letting me know. Welcome back to Mac and hope you enjoy!
THanks Judith! I'm glad you found it helpful. Good luck on switching over - can't hurt to be able to drive both Mac and Windows!
Thank you so much. Very high quality: concise, clear, demonstrative, passionate. NOTE: I am new to Mac and the laptop I bought is running Big Sur, but I fount your tutorial incredibly helpful all the same.
That's great to hear, I'm glad it was helpful!
Just do what you need to do thanks
Thank you so much for this! I just got my new Macbook Air today and, after watching your video, am ready to get started. I know after 28 years as an exclusive Windows user there will be a learning curve but I much less apprehensive about it.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I used a macbook for the first time this week and i definitely feel more comfortable after watching your video!
You're welcome, I'm glad you found it helpful!
Excellent Video for those newly moved from Windows to Mac.
Thanks.👍
You're welcome, I'm glad it helped!
Hi, Anson, if you use Keynote everyday, do you have a tutorial video on it. Your instruction and voice are very clear, excellent!
Thanks Lola! I don't yet have a full Keynote tutorial but I will definitely streamline it to the top of my content list!
Thanks!
You’re welcome and thank you!
I have bought my first laptop and luckily it's MacBook Air M2. I watched your video and it was really helpful. Thanks man.
Hi, I just watched this and 2019 version, they are both very helpful because I just started using MacBook and have been using Windows since like a billion years ago. Thanks for the right-to-the-point tutorials👍
36:36 lmao that's me
Awesome, I'm glad you found them helpful! Good luck on the Mac!
Bought my first Mac; this was awesome... exactly what I needed to get started 🙏
Thank you Anson!! I really appreciated this video. Just bought my first MacBook and you helped me out a LOT.
That's great to hear, I'm glad it helped!
I’m 61 and just learning and this is the best and easy way to learn about a Mac computer, thank you so much . I’ve always used windows and just don’t like it 😂 my new Mac 14 inch M1 full load laptop is great !
That's great to hear! It's always good to learn new skills anyways and knowing both Windows and Mac makes you a very powerful computer user. Have fun!
Anson, thanks very much. Super helpful for someone like me moving from windows to mac! Keep up the good work!
Excellent presentation and I have using Mac for 10+ years and learned things I didn’t know about from your videos for beginners
I will share this
Just bought a macbook pro, waiting for it to arrive. Thanks for this great overview. I like that you compared with windows as that's where I'm used to working. Greetings from North Wales UK.
Thanks for the tip to head here as well - I'm still learning on my new work Mac but am feeling much more confident.
That's great to hear, there is a lot to learn but once you get to a certain point you can do a lot of self learning by checking out all of the different options, settings and apps available.
Thanks a ton. I bought my first Mac last week and its a leaner curve. With the tips, it'll be easier for me.
That's great to hear. I hope you're enjoying the new Mac!
Absolutely fantastic. Very nice introduction for beginners. I can notice it was very well prepared. Thank you a lot!🥰
Thank you for this video tutorial. I found it extremely helpful. MAC for the Windows user - genius!!
Haha, you're welcome, I'm glad it helped!
Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful and that my teaching style worked for you!
Thank you so much.. I will be a new Mac OS user on Friday, so great to know how to navigate/Customize!
You make it very simple and easy, keep it up.
This is a masterpiece, amazing job my friend. Much gratitude towards you. Keep up the good work. Thank you greatly for this great tutorial.
Thanks a lot, really appreciate it! I'm glad you found it helpful!
Thank you! Very helpful. Just purchased and setup a Mac Mini M2. Now I can learn how to use.
Thank you this was so helpful. Windows user of many years and new to mac. Have taken notes and will enjoy exploring 😊
Great presentation, especially the Finder explanation. The natural scrolling tip really helped, as I thought my Windows mouse wouldn't work on my new MacBook.
Where did you get the lovely blue puffball around your mouse? Iv’e wasted ten minutes looking for my mouse pointer while screaming where is my mouse?
Since its been many days and Iv’e gotten no reply I am going to dislike and unsubscribe. 😢☹️😤
Haha well sorry Garry, it does take me some time to get to all of my comments but, to answer your question, it is part of my recording software, ScreenFlow. I don't actually see it on my screen when recording, I add it in post-production (editing).
I just learned something new from this video tutorial , short cut to launch spotlight.
I also prefer Google Chrome across all my devices.
I'm glad it helped and thanks for the info on maximizing in Windows!
Thank you so much for this video and kindly we are waiting for advance tutorial and especially for shortcuts app of apple system 🙏
You're welcome! I think I already have some videos out that may be what you're looking for:

Thank you ! this is so helpful. Coming back to mac after a long time on windows wasn't as easy as i thought it would be.
And for a moment i thought you were ricky gervais
You're welcome, good luck on the return to Mac!
Really great presentation, thank you! I am a long time windows user and I've also used Linux for over 10 years.
I don't think we need to say one is better, it's fun using all three
The editing of this video is top notch 😮
I'm a bit late to the Apple club but will be going from Windows to Mac when I get an iMac after Christmas. Does the 2021 version match your tutorial
That's awesome! If you run all of the software updates on a Mac made in 2021 it should be able to run Ventura no problem!
Thank you great tutorial. I have been a chromebook all google user. Had to switch to a MacBook pro when I changed companies and there was a learning curve for sure. I was not sold on Apple. However l needed a new personal computer and something that could keep up with my business so I decided to get a MacBook pro for myself
... something I swore I would never do. But it is a much better laptop I just loaded the chrome browser and use sheet docs etc. So best if both world. Most helpful was hearing about the apple apps you use and how you use them. Thanks for an honest tutorial!
As a long time windows user but new to mac, this was spot on. Very helpful, thank you!
For me I am glad I changed from Windows to Mac, this for sure.
Windows is a mess comparing with Apple. I bought a computer running on Windows, I installed Linux.
Do you recommend a macbook air M1 for a software engineering student?
@@EsandiKawya I've been programming on my old laptop that costs 300 dollars and that was enough for most of the time. So yeah, M1 is good enough when you're a student. Then, when you'll get a job, you may think about better options but now it's completely okay.
Thank you very much for this'! I just ordered a MacBook Air m2 base model and im very excited to get started and leave windows behind me 🎉
Awesome to hear, good luck with the new Mac!
Love the feature of chapters in the video, I would definitely want to skip around to certain things instead of watching the full video if I got a mac.
Wow, yeah there sure are a lot of them in this video
Yeah, these full tutorials have a lot of content embedded within them.
:D
Around min. 27, it would be nice to get info about, external windows key board and what to do if you are using windows keyboard which does not have “command” key etc..
I like your tutorial is so easy understand
I’m Spanish speaking for my ears is so clear I watched this video as a class I’m keeping washing to learn from you how to speak clear like you
Sound crazy but is the truth
Thanks you so much.
This tutorial was just so helpfull! Thank you for your time and for doing this video!
You're welcome, I'm glad it helped!
Thank you again for so much information lol I wanted to take off Google Mail from mac I had to do a search to find out if I deleted if I would lose all my information from the main server from Google I learned so much you are the go-to man on the mac thanks, Anson!!! Easy pleasing
You're welcome, I'm glad to hear it was helpful!
Thanks. Good tutorial. Going to get my first macbook in a week. Never used mac os before but somehow cant wait
Personal preference. A lot of websites are designed for Chrome and work best under Chrome.
I am completely new to mac and at the moment I’m overwhelmed but I’m watching your video now and I’m already learning , which recording app are you using this is something I want to use for recording am I able to run garage band whilst recording with the app as I am a music producer but yes I e Bn using windows for 25 years I’m 44 now soo I feel left behind, I need to download a course from Udemy soon how does that work ?
Love the update for Ventura. I watched your previous tutorial video and loved it!
I'm so glad, it was time for an update!
Thanks! I bought a used Macbook just so I can learn macOS. Prior to this the last time I used Mac was on those old plastic colored Macintosh PCs in college.
Haha that awesome, welcome back! I'm glad it was helpful!
Very helpful video actuall i shifted from window to apple ios .
Now i opened the camera and unable to close the camera struggling for 30mins and here am searching for help in youtube and came across this video
I hope it helped the transition!
Wonderful and useful tutorial for new users to MacOS. Appreciate a lot!
I don't know who told you that, but it doesn't make sense. The M2 chip is the processor that newer Macs use.
I honestly have no idea. If you've seen my video on why I like Intel chips better (ruclips.net/video/yP3DUAzEM9c/видео.html), you'll see that my entire reason is that Windows runs waayyy better on Intel chips...
Agreed, Windows will run better on in the Intel chips.
thank you so much this was so instructive, clear and nicely explain !❤
It was very useful. Thanks a lot and good luck.
Awesome, you're welcome, thanks!
thanks for this video, im a new user of mcbook, im happy i watched this video...many thanks
You're welcome, I'm glad it was helpful!
Thank you.
I’m not sure if I will get use to the Mac since I was a window user for many years. After listening to your video I’m now confident to move forward and give it a shot. Thanks for your input.
Absolutely Fantastic... Saved my time.... Thank you very much!!!!
