Suspension is very tricky and def need to do a ton of research before spending a ton of money on all different types of shocks. So thanks for this video, always been a fan of fox shocks but the world of shocks has always been super confusing and tricky for a lot of people. Glad there’s videos like this to help people like me figure out what we need for our specific rigs and specific on road and different types of off roading.
I’m an avid Mtn biker and own a few bikes with Fox. I’ll be retired soon and plan on traveling across North America mostly off road with my bikes and gear. I have a 2020 Tacoma 4x4 TRD off road that is stock. I’m looking retirement this year and traveling North America with my truck and toys. I really appreciate your content sharing. I’m planning a modification with an experienced builder like yours. My travel is going to be off road as much as possible and just traveling to nice trails to explore and probably a few events along the way.
I have been running the Fox 2.5 elite front and rear on my gen 3 taco and i have to say i love having the DSC adjusters to get that fine tuning after the main valving which in my opinion is necessary because everyones weight varies so it is nice to have those adjustments to compensate for those changes and keep a very smooth ride
I have Fox suspension on my MTB (my profile pic 😁) as well as my 2019 Tacoma TRD Pro. There is a very good reason why I prefer Fox over all the other brands, and it has every bit to do with how much money they spend in R&D, and in race scenarios. Regardless of the vehicle, if it has suspension, Fox is there, on the scene, and ready to learn and improve on the daily. There are videos on YT following the mechanics and athletes around, and to see the amount of expertise and dedication the techs have, I really don't know why anyone would want to go anywhere else.
I love this video. I have a 2nd gen tundra that tows a 2500-3000lbs bass boat. I currently have a 3" front and 1" rear leveling kit right now and it doesn't have a negative rake from my setup. I want to step up my suspension game so what would you recommend for to keep it as similar to my current setup with no rake?
Hi I had fox long travel setup on my tundra, sorry to say it was very bumpy ride. Went for kings and o boy what a difference. I think we dont get a good support for fox in UAE. Many dont have rebuilt parts.
The crazy thing is dobinsons MRR gives more travel than fox in the rear per the same minimum compressed length. I got fox but for rock crawling the travel of dobinsons might be better. Other drawbacks to dobinsons but still a great option it seems
Love the content. Always love references to FJ Cruisers, since that's my current rig and I'm considering upgrading suspension, bumpers, undercarriage protection, etc.. When I bought it, I didn't know that to get it better off-road capable it would cost an additional $10k-$12k for good equipment. Little disappointed with that. BMC, regear, UCA (possibly lower, too), better negative offset wheels, larger-than-32" high quality tires, faster throttle response unit, 3" high quality lift, quality sliders, under armor (possibly around steering components, too), bumpers, winch, ropes, etc...it's expensive! I'm having second thoughts the more I've researched true costs of properly doing it all. Originally thought it just needed a $2k-$4k lift, bigger tires, a couple bumpers for, like, maybe $2k and a $500 winch...thought I'd be golden after , maybe $6k additional investment...yeah no. 😂
@@seekerfpvpretty good a little stiff on road since they are made for offroad but I also have quite a bit of preload. But steering with new upper control arms is so much better. No body roll at all and no nose dip from braking. Might turn them down slightly to get more down travel but I like the higher lift lol
@@seekerfpv good plan, i was able to get mine for 1300 for front and rear total since they were leftovers from a shop so i had to jump on a good deal or would have gone with dsc as well! maybe once these wear out
All bilstein's are digressive valved, so if you want a soft ride you need to look at linear or progressive valving. I also have an sr5 that I upgraded to 5100's which are better over stock but still very stiff. I was going to upgrade to 5150/6112 but was told I wouldn't notice any difference.
close your eyes. listen to the Fox dude. that is John Cusack, I know it. that beard and knowledge of suspension was a great cover, but I know it's him! lol
One thing all of these shock videos isn’t mentioning is towing! Imagine a person who pulls a trailer carrying a commercial zero turn and other lawn care equipment. Maybe it’s similar to having overland gear piled up I’m just surprised that towing hasn’t been mentioned specifically.
You could powder coat them a different color, will require removing them and sending them off to coat, wont be cheap or fast for just a pair of springs. Cant custom order from Fox
i noticed that your site does all kinds of toyota/lexus suspensions. i am curious which set of fox performance would fit on the 2018 gx 460. the title says gx460 so i am assuming that all of those would fit? can you help please?
If we have a lot of highway miles before getting to a light to moderate trail, do you suggest any suspension for this? So like a daily driver that does more highway than anything and looking for just a small lift. Any suggestions?
There are lots of local shops that do shock rebuilding. The cost depending which Setup you have, Extended, reservoirs, etc. Can be upwards of $500 and up. Yes, sometimes if you have a cheaper setup it can be better to just purchase a new shock.
I have the Fox 2.0 on my 2021 F150. Stock, maybe harsher feel. Especially the rear shocks. The springs start rusting quickly. The studs will round out if try to put them in your new truck. Fox reminds me of the OEM quality from the 80s when everything rusted out after 5 years.
comes with 2.5 fox shocks with internal bypass, not something they offer aftermarket. IBP makes the daily drive buttery, while maintaining offroad performance
I have 2.5 coilovers but with no compression dampening when I rebuild them could it be added with out replacing the whole thing I'm not sure if fox sells like an "upgrade kit"
I think 2k is a bit expensive, especially if it's your friend. but hey people sell these for whatever they want. I see them go from 800 to 2k. For 2k I would get the Bilstein 6112/5160 set up and get a full 2-and-a-half-inch lift.
21 Jeep Mojave, terrible creaking sound. Front Fox shocks being replaced under warranty, not impressed. Dealer said this isn't the first set of duds they have seen.
@@AFGixxeR88 Based on everything I could gather from all the Tacoma groups I’m a part of, it is personal preference. Have seen no complaints from anyone having King’s. People with Icon, Fox, and others talk about them failing prematurely. Some even have RC’s that have outlasted them.
My DSC adjusters had 1 freeze. Fox warranties it no questions asked. Happy about the customer service so far!

Great explanation of high vs low speed shock events. Thank you!

Your gonna love the upgrade .
Blow them up!
Mine just blew up after 2 years, definitely going the fox route!
Best part of my TRD Pro Tundra is my amazing suspension.
This guy 😂. You should talk to Chloe. She had her FOX elites revalved by Accutune. Night and day difference to the FOX off the shelf tune.

The best suspension explainer
Great job explaining the different shocks
Great video! Lately I've been considering swapping out my suspension for something more tunable I'll definitely look into fox.
Excellent information. Excellent questions!!
I know fox shock for awhile cause it built similar for high end MTB
Informative. Appreciated.

Why do some shocks say “factory race” and others say just “fox factory”
What Fox shock comes on the TRD Pro 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra?
Why do my 4runner's fox shocks keep leaking and clunking in cold weather?

fox 2.0 coilover, are they side-specific (left or right side)? if so how to identify which is left and which is right? thanks

Well looks like I'm going with fox shocks
Does a DSC help with weekend warriors that also pull small to med trail trailers, to help with real tough weight and having a steel rear bumper?
It sounds like you need airbags 🤔

I think they should offer an elite overland series.

Aluminum is actually stronger then steel
Foxs over Kings!🤣😝
They're good, unfortunately they have to be serviced every 6 to 12 months, depending on your wheeling, that is a big no no for me
most grandmas around here dont drive em that hard, so you can get more life than a year.
Are the elite series available for 2.5 gen tundras?
