    Dang bro! What a setup! Congrats. She's a beauty. May you catch a 12-pounder this season.

      Honestly, I would probably pass out or worse if I caught a 12 lber. But let’s hope I can find that out! Haha. Appreciate you watching and hope you find a double digit as well my friend.

      Thanks! I’ve debated on a cooler seat too. That way you can sit up higher, and also hold more cold beer 😂 but it’s probably harder to paddle for longer distances. Let me know what you end up using and how you like it! Thanks for watching

    This video is perfect timing. I just got one, and I had a kayak prior. Have you ever tried the cooler/seat idea? I have a spare cooler I was gonna throw on and I like the idea of sitting higher up but i don’t know if a seat is better.

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching! I’ve debated on the cooler/bucket seat, but haven’t tried yet. My friend uses that. I like that you could sit higher up, and it would be easier to stand up too. Guess it depends on how far you plan to paddle. I usually go a decent distance, so the lower kayak style seat has nice support for that and you can paddle easier/faster.

      @@FishATX okay well I’m glad you didn’t say it sucks and the idea is worthless 😂, I just installed some neat stuff on it for fishing and gonna see Tuesday if it is stable to paddle/ fish. Hopefully Oklahoma doesn’t have crazy weather till then.

      @@samuelrabuck Nice, good luck! The weather here in Texas got cold again randomly but looks better this week, so I'm ready to fish! Let me know how it goes if you get a cooler seat too.

    Are you ever fearful of your hooks puncturing the board ?

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX  5 месяцев назад +1

      Not really! I’ve had a swimbait fly back at me when a bass jumped and it stuck into the board a little but didn’t puncture. The material is pretty hard so you would have to set the hook hard into it for it to happen. And most are dual layered to prevent punctures. I’ve also nailed sharp sticks and rocks with no issue, but you need to make sure it’s a good quality board.

    Been looking into doing something like this. My biggest concern it the fin on the bottom getting taken out by rocks. The river I typically float has some light rapids that I think would snap the fin. Any issues with that?

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX  6 месяцев назад +1

      We don’t really have any legit “rapids” in my area so I haven’t tried that yet. I can say it definitely scrapes in shallow spots and hits underwater trees, but it’s been fine. I’d be more concerned of nailing a big rock in rapids and getting tossed from the SUP honestly! The skeg on this one has a screw system so it’s locked in tight and pretty tough plastic material.

      @@FishATX in your opinion is this more or less stable than your average 12 foot kayak like a Lifetime or Pelican?

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX  6 месяцев назад +2

      @@Nate28752 It's a little tough to compare since they handle differently, and I've only fished out of 10 ft kayaks. My Pelican Catch was wide and fairly easy to stand on, but I guess the SUP might be less likely to tip since it's flat contacting the water everywhere. My Native Slayer Max is sturdy as hell, but it's heavy so I often still take the SUP out instead if I'm fishing smaller bodies of water. Against a 12 ft kayak, I'd think the kayak would be more stable overall, but the SUP is just so easy to get out and if you have the balance to stand on it, it's a ton of fun to fish on. Hopefully that helps a little lol

      Atoll boards make river fins that are hard rubber and made to flex. The paddleboard just needs to have a universal fin box.

    Anchor is way heavier than you need if you have light chain and enough line, seems like overkill.👍

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX  6 месяцев назад

      Agreed for a SUP in moderate winds. Lately we’ve had 15-20mph winds, and I use it for my kayaks too, so might as well get a good one that’s gonna hold in all conditions!

      Could a guy use the paddle as a anchor pole? I made a set of anchor poles and was wondering if I could use that?

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX  5 месяцев назад

      @@erichanson7261 I've done it, but most of the paddles float so they don't like to stay down. I'd love to have some type of anchor pole on the SUP and kayak though. I usually just tie to a limb or sit next to the bank if its windy.

    • @erichanson7261
      @erichanson7261 5 месяцев назад +1

      @FishATX the poles I made are 1.5" diameter fiberglass rod. They have a couple threaded caps on them so I can have them at 7' all the way up to I think 15'. I think that would work good. It would just lay on the board. I'd like to figure out a way to attach it to the side of the board. Then I would just slide it through a ring attached to a d loop.

    Really don’t think fishing from something that is inflated is a good idea!

    • @FishATX
      @FishATX  Месяц назад +1

      Depends on what kind of SUP/Kayak you have and where/how you use it! Most of the new inflatable SUP and kayaks are multiple layered and blow up to a PSI around 10-15, so it feels like a super hard plastic board once inflated. I've had no issues at all, and have paddled many miles of rivers!
